What a disappointment. Keeping the cupcakes in the fridge is a good way to preserve the moisture, but it still tasted like cardboard and the frosting was hard as a rock. Not to mention waxy, waxy waxy! So sad. I love cupcakes but I will not be returning.
Passed by their shop on the way out from Trudy's and the first thing I saw were the cupcakes! Me and each of my girlfriends bought a cupcake for dessert and let me just say that the cupcake looked way better then it tasted. The frosting tasted like wax although you could tell they were going for a buttery taste and the cake was, well...probably left out for a few days. It was stale and unappetizing. I just threw it away after a couple bites. What a waste of $2.99.
****Update May 8 2008***
Now this is the sign of a good business, or at least a good manager. I received an e-mail apologizing for my experience and an offer to treat myself on my next visit to Sugar Butter Flour on the manager's behalf. I am now more likely to try this place again. Not for the free treats, but because not too many business go out of their way to make up for bad customer service.
Upgrading to 3 stars for good customer service.
************************************
We wanted to try SBF because of all the rave reviews. Unfortunately, we had the worst experience here.
We walked in to the store, chit chatting about what we wanted to buy and how everything looked so good. Now mind you, there are 3 of us, so you can totally hear us and that we were interested customers. We waited a minute while the girl behind the counter finished whatever she was working on.. she had her back turned to us looking down at the counter. When she finally looked up, she walked over to the cash register and started chit chatting with the lady behind us. Asking what she would like to order today.
She totally skipped us!
AND my friend said out loud... "weren't we here before her?!" and we said "yes".
We decided to walk out. How rude! The girl never even acknowledged our existance, even as we walked out of the door irritated.
Maybe one day, I will return to try one of the cupcakes that everyone raves about.
This place gives The Buttery in Santa Cruz a run for its money, but not good enough. A friend wanted a chocolate cake for his birthday and so I got out of my grad school class early tonight--- I went to dinner with a coworker at Rock Bottom and thought-- this is my opportunity to try it out
Many folks complain about the price. For the amount of "gourmet" pastry you get, it is actually cheap...maybe that is just me. I am used to paying 24 dollars for a high quality cake at The Buttery and anywhere from 4.50-6.oo for their mini desserts... the smaller cakes here go for 4.50. The presentation was impressive. The desserts are cute and look like Martha Stewart and the Food Network went ape shit in a super small pastry shop. This place is a complete 180 from the Ms. Field's cookies that used to occupy the lease.... This place almost belongs in Los Gatos on Santa Cruz Avenue...almost. I decided instead of buying my friend a cake, I would get him some samples (so that way we could all have a taste.. for about 30 dollars around the same price as one of their smallest cakes) I got the following:
1) Strawberry Shortcake-- light, creamy and airy..not overly sweet like your auntie's..this is some sophisticated upscale @#$#. This was a keeper. Props for the details and elegance of a summertime treat
2)Mocha Cake-- my boyfriend rarely eats sweets but was all over this puppy. Creamy chocolate, chocolate cake and some kick arse espresso. This one was also a keeper. Sometimes the espresso makes the chocolate bitter....this was a great blend-- not too strong not too sweet.... he ended up taking this one (greedy bastard) not really sharing with the rest of us.
3) chocolate truffle-- this one has chocolate sprinkles, chocolate gauche, chocolate everything-- this one was too sweet for me, but the birthday boy felt like royalty.... this dark madness was his favorite out of the bunch (because he claims like the cake he is chocolate goodness-- sure homie WHATEVER)
4) Tiramisu-- I was not a big fan of this one. What they do really well is making their cakes light and fluffy BUT.. I did not taste the espresso or the usual alcoholic tang... it tasted more like marscapone and that was it.... The presentation however is beautiful..the chocolate thin cover outside of the cake is beautiful..the espresso bean that has gold flecks... also a nice touch.
5) Raspberry cake-- I love raspberries and I loved this one. The guys not so much... usually stuff like this tastes like yoplait yogurt.. this one does not taste like smuckers either (thank god). Their raspberry cake holds its own. The white chocolate was yummy. (I am a sucker for white chocolate anything)
6) Raspberry Mango cake-- I like The Buttery from Santa Cruz's better. This one was too sweet and it tasted like a pearl tea/jamba smoothie gone wrong.... I would skip this one.. no matter how pretty it looks.
7) Chocolate Mandarin Orange cake: If you like Maryanne's Ice Cream (Santa Cruz, CA) you will love this cake. This was also a hit with many in the birthday group. If Mandarin Orange and rich chocolate had a baby-- it would be this. By far one of the better orange chocolate cakes I have tried. Another analogy would be if you like those orange chocolate balls you can "peel" this one will appeal to you (ha...ha..ha.... dood it is late at night... expect some type of cheese factor)
I had no problem parking, but then again that is because it was around 5 PM on a Tuesday.
Their croissants and other goodies looked yummy. I am definitely going to have to check this place out again and do another round...I am not going to go out of my way to come here, but if I am in the area I will drop by.

Visually appealing desserts, but the taste was sub par. I tried the tiramisu and it was very pretty, in a chocolate casing with what looked like an espresso bean on top...but it was totally dry and had none of the soakings of what should have been espresso and some type of liqueur. Maybe their other offerings are better, but the tiramisu was bad enough that I won't be giving them another chance to win me over.

I finally made it to this place after we had dinner in the Pruneyard. We split a tirmasu that was WOW!!! It was so good. The cake was nice and light with hint of expresso or something else but not too strong. It has a pretty thin layer of chocolate on the outside for a beautiful presentation. They have tons of desserts mostly chocolate, but have some rasberry cake and mouses, crepes, homemade chocolate, cheesecakes, tortes, croissants, sandwiches and salads.
Only reason it's 4 stars is my hubby had to wait quite a while for his coffee than for his milk. It was Sat night so I know they were a bit busy.
Great location and I can't wait to go again since in my hometown :-)

growing up in Montreal I haven't always appreciated all the terrific little belgium bakeries that can be found at every other street corner until I moved away. One of my very first cheesecake experiences was from one said bakery, it was a 'cheese mousse cake' and had a hearty graham crust and a thick layer of airy, light, melt-in-your-mouth rich cheese mousse. D I V I N E.
On an off I've searched for something that would match my cheese mousse cake throughout the years, without success. No offtense, but 'American style' cheesecake is usually hearty, tougher chunk of cheese, super sweet, and sometimes a bit too rich.
I had to pick up food to watch a hockey game the other night, and on my way I saw this bakery. Bravely, I walk in (bravely, because I need all the courage to not break down and buy one of everything in the store...)
Being a weeknight, the store wasn't too crowded. The presentation of each little cake was fabulous. They all looked camera-ready to pose for food magazine and cook book pictures.
I do what I always do when I can't make a choice - ask the experts. Most of the time, the people who work behind the counters have tried all of these cakes at some point, or know which ones are the customers' favorites to recommend. The woman behind the counter was friendly and helpful. Under her encouragement, I took 2 desserts over to my friend's place - raspberry-dark-chocolate-mousse, and a twice-baked-cheesecake.
the dark chocolate mousse was decadent... perfectly sweeten since this is a dark chocolate treat. Generous thick panels of dark chocolate surround the mousse, and raspberry sauce keeps the whole thing moist. And nicely presented with a dark raspberry-colored ribbon wrapped around.
however...
when my fork slices easily into the twiced-baked-cheesecake, and hits the bottom graham crust, I thought, this has possibilities...
the cheesecake was absolutely divine.
it's not quite mousse, but the cake part was light, rich, buttery, and full of flavor. The graham layer adds textual complexity to compliment the light cheesecake layer. The flavor was fantastically light and intense at the same time. This is possibly the best cheesecake I've tasted in 10 years.
a definite winner: twice-baked cheesecake is a must-try for this place!

This is the perfect place for an after dinner dessert or snack before heading to the movie theater next door.
I'm giving them 5 stars for the truffle cake alone, which is the only thing I've tried so far. It is the ultimate cake if you're ever craving chocolate. The cake is split into several layers with chocolaty cream in between, and then covered in a bittersweet dark chocolate ganache. The outside is covered in chocolate sprinkles to look like a truffle.
It is a little pricey for dessert, but understandable for the quality and effort put into each item. A small cake (slightly larger than a cupcake) is $4.50, but we were actually able to split one.

I live in walking distance from the Pruneyard, but I had resisted going into Sugar Butter Flour until now. I was looking for a little something to pick up as a "thank you" for someone, which finally brought me into SBF. I couldn't help but get a red velvet cupcake for myself, just to see what all the fuss was about.
The cupcake:
Presentation -- Rich red color, good size, careful application of the frosting, sprinkled with walnuts to finish off the look.
Texture -- On the firmer side, but still pretty moist. Not too dry at all.
Frosting -- Delicious cream cheese frosting! The best part of the cupcake.
Flavor -- Here is where I was disappointed. Not too rich and not too sweet, which would have been perfect... but it left a very weird aftertaste! I think it may have been the dye, because the dye also stained my tongue red. I've had a couple red velvets before, and never have they stained my tongue nor left that aftertaste! This ended up being a big turn off for me.
If it weren't for the staining and the gross aftertaste, I would have been much much more excited about their cupcakes. But with the aftertaste, it's hard for me to justify paying almost 8 bucks for 3 cupcakes. Maybe I was overly excited from all the hype, but I left somewhat disappointed.

The first time I went I tried a crepe and the red velvet cupcake. I forget which crepe it was. It was pretty good and came with a nice salad on the side, but I think I'm just not really into that type of crepe. I prefer the ones that are crunchy on the edges. The cupcake was disappointing. I thought it would be really good cus everyone said good things about the red velvet and it looked really good. Unfortunately it was pretty dry and the frosting was a little too sweet. Today I tried their tiramisu, which was good. I would have liked a little more coffee liquor flavor and slightly less cream, but it was still good.
The service is very friendly and personal which is definitely a plus. Also, they have great looking cake designs which you can browse on their cool touch screen. They would make for a nice wedding cake bakery. But I have no idea how the large cakes taste. I'm not a fan of cakes that look great but are super sweet or just don't taste good. I will have to try out some more small cakes before I decide whether or not to invest in a bigger one.
Butter Sugar Flour, Flour Sugar Butter,..Butter Flour Sugar....blah blah blah...that's all I keep hearing. The PR people here are really earning their money!
So I went. I had the red velvet and the chocolate swirl cupcakes. The chocolate swirl was way better, but ...
NO where near as good as Icing on the Cake!
The staff get an honorable mention...VERY nice people work here!
I will have to make a sacrifice and try it again (to be fair of course)...

Crazed and in withdrawal from not having had a pastry, at all, in like, weeks, perhaps MONTHS, I got hit with a craving and went looking for local south bay dessert reviews.
Summary: I have finished very few of the desserts in their entirety, due to lacking flavor. Moisture, presentation, composition, general creativity, and variety are great. However, there is very little flavor to back up all the butter, fat, sugar, and carbs you are intaking.
The desserts as I see them:
- Red velvet cupcake: their best cupcake of the few available for me to try at that time of day. Frosting is cream cheese based but well balanced, ie, not too strong, not too thick, not too sweet and cloying. Just right. Moist. I am not a cake girl, I'm a pastry girl, so these cupcakes have a consistency I like, very dense and almost gooey as you chew, but still fluffy. Not too much red dye. Good balance. Ate the whole thing. In fact the only thing I ate in its entirety and the only thing I'd go back for.
- Banana cupcake: Frosting same story. Banana flavor/chunks nonexistent. Not worth it. I tore the upper crust off and ate the frosting (cream cheese). I went back and tried it. It was better, but only slightly. It really doesn't taste hugely of banana, it's like "hint of banana" cupcake.
- Chocolate cupcake: Chocolate ganache frosting of proper consistency/tackiness, BUT flavor nonexistent. Cake flavor nonexistent. I experimented trying to eat just the frosting but it was a no go. Tastes like a diet cupcake, without the Splenda.
- Dark chocolate ganache truffle: The only thing that tasted truly as chocolatey as you'd expect it to. Downside: chocolate too bitter, not enough sweet.
- Rich Chocolate Marquise: Another devastating disappointment. How can something LOOK and FEEL so great in your mouth yet have so little flavor? You have to understand, this dessert is served and composed in EXACTLY the way I LOVE to receive my chocolate. But it barely tasted like chocolate! It tasted like white cake with a bit of chocolate-flavored firm nougat in the middle, I kid you not. I don't understand it. I ate HALF of this one waiting for something to happen. It never did.
- Pear Almond Tart: Thick crust, generous filling. Not amazing. I ended up eating the innards of the tart, interestingly gooey and almondy, but the crust was kind of like a brick.
- Apple Tart Tatin: Pretty much like the pear almond tart but the top is carmelized mushy apple with no hint of apple tartness so it's all just toothachingly sweet. Sweet doesn't equal flavor, either. Brick crust.
- Twice Baked Cheesecake: I don't know how to describe it, but the crust was the only thing I ate in its entirety (graham cracker, hard to mess that up). The cheesecake portion is kind of glue-like in the middle, and the flavor doesn't warrant the heavy/stick to the inside of your mouth density of the cake. And I love cheesecake, so this was sad.
- Croque monsieur: Flavorless cheese (I think it's supposed to be Swiss but it's bland), good ham, fluffy puffy moist bread, no real flavor to speak of, excessively buttery. I think a strong Gruyere would do better here, and less butter (in the bread or on the bread, I couldn't tell). This tasted okay but again, was missing flavor.
- Cookies: I have a couple cookies sitting in my breadbox waiting for a nibble. I'll see how these go.
RESULT: I have tried both creamy and chocolatey and determine that after all this ... the red velvet cupcakes are worth it.

I came here with really high hopes and left 5 lbs heavier with nothing to show for it. They weren't kidding when they said sugar, butter, flour because everything was so incredibly sugary. The Red Velvet Cupcake, as many have raved about, was the most tolerable one because it wasn't as sweet. The banana tasted faintly like banana and mostly like sugar, and the chocolate was better but still too sweet. I much preferred the balance of flavor and the consistency at Kara's Cupcakes.
I gave the other cakes a shot too, and was not very impressed. The Chocolate Truffle Cake was frosting shaped like cake, the Bailey's Dome must've had a shot of Bailey's in it, and the Hazelnut Napolean was probably the best.
Am I missing something?

I decided to give SBF another chance. The Campbell location makes the Sunnyvale location look the like forgotten, red-haired, fguly, stepchild of the two bakeries.
The Campbell location of SBF:
1. Has friendly, more efficient staff.
2. The tables are clean (no dirty dishes lingering).
3. The baked items and even the coffee taste better.
I had the following:
One Cappuccino
One Large Vanilla Latte
Creme Brulee
and to go:
The White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle - $1.25
Chocolate Peppermint Truffle - $1.25
Classic Chocolate Truffle - $1.25
Mini Raisin Croissant- $1.50
Mini Brioche- $2.35
Butter Croissant- $2.35
The truffles were excellent, especially the white chocolate raspberry truffle. The mini raisin croissant was buttery and delicious. The mini brioche was light, buttery and amazing. The creme brulee was delish. I was blown away by the butter croissant because it was perfect in every way- buttery, flaky, light.
Noelle's Notes: Better service, ambiance, baked goods than the Sunnyvale location. Cue the song "I'm a believer" cause the Campbell location has my 5 stars hands down.

I think the service here is excellent. I asked a simple question about pricing for a college graduation cake, and received a very lengthy but concise response. And she delivered all the informaton with genuine kindness.
As for the food, I've had the cookies, cupcakes, and one of their individual desserts. The cookies are okay, but like everyone mentioned, a little pricey for what you get. The Red Velvet Cupcake is the only delicious cupcake there in my opinion. I had the vanilla cupcake and really, it was too crumbly for my preference, and the frosting tasted like oily crisco with a dash of vanilla. As opposed to the Red Velvet, which is dense and solid, with a delicious cream cheese based frosting.
The speciality dessert I had was the Toffee Pecan Tart....it looks like a tart with a pecan pie type filling. I actually really enjoyed this one! Definitely bypass the fruity desserts and try this one out :]
I was invited to an Easter sunday dinner and I thought it would be nice to bring a dessert. I didn't know where to go and YELP! to the rescue. I went here with good reviews and was impressed. I noticed that their 6" cakes weren't out so I asked if I had to pre-order them. They happen to have many different choices ready to be decorated. I chose white chocolate raspberry cake and had crepe while I waited. Crepe came with salad and it was pretty good. Cake came out beautifully decorated with fruits and with a cute ribbon wrapped around the cake. Later that day when the cake came out everyone was excited and commented on how cute it was! It was a hit indeed. It was light and perfect mix of chocolate and fruit. I will definitely be coming back here.
I am a fan of Sugar Butter Flour in sunnyvale and didnt know hey opened another location. How exiting...
I went to see a movie at the Pruneyard and that was the perfect place to end the evening with a quality Latte and a great dessert.
We had the apple custard crep wich was absolutly amazing and the banana nutella (hard to go wrong with this one).
the service was very nice and friendly and I got some more desserts to take to a dinner party the next day. They where a hit.
Sugar Butter Flour Rocks!!!
So if you have read my Sunnyvale SBF review (If not, I am attaching it below) you will know how much I like the journey at SBF.
http://www.yelp.com/bi...
Can anyone say Duo Mousse and Double Baked Cheesecake? I was craving sweets last night (blame it on a certain class) and headed to SBF with my "beautiful stalker." She wanted a cupcake, and I wanted anything SUGAR, BUTTER, FLOUR. No cuppies last night, but I was lucky enough to pick up 2 treats. The Cheesecake was elegantly simple. Moist, light, and not decadent at all. A perfect snack for 945PM. Loved the crust...but remind me why it's twice baked? I am saving the duo for tonight! I will admit...the hazelnut from SV has been my favorite...but I love that this location is closer to me!
Staff is super cheery, and I love that this location has more tables and encourages sitting outside. I mean, it is the pruneyard. If I want to really kill myself and piss of my trainer, then I will run to cold stone and have a real treat along with my SBF stuff!
No Amex BTW.

The CUTEST name for a bakery! The name "Sugar Butter Flour" puts a smile to my face! :)
I had room for dessert after eating at Cafe Artemis! My bf and i took 5-10 minutes deciding which individual dessert to order. Everything looks so yummy! There were reasonable prices for $4.50.
I tried the Raspberry Opera. The bf had the Double Baked Cheesecake. Wow! Both were yummy!
The Raspberry Opera was lighter and had many layers of raspberry. The white chocolate gave an extra touch to the dessert.
The Double Baked Cheesecake had a thick crust. We had to stab our forks into the crust in order to break it. The cheesecake was heavier to eat, but it was pretty good.
Don't forget to see the cute cakes in the window display!! The hamburger cake was awesome! See picture.
For credit card transactions, the bill has to be over $5.
You can also sign up for a SBF card. You get a punch or stamp for purchases over $10. Yeah.. it's hard to spend $10 since two individual cakes costs $9.74 with tax.

I have to confess, I am in love! The former Mrs. Field was axed for a much better replacement. Want to know what I am in love with? The red velvet cupcake topped with nuts at Sugar Butter Flour. Each bite was light, fluffy, and the cake was a very evenly lightly colored red. Some red velvet cakes are brown, black, or just some odd dark red. This cupcake was actually red and everything from the frosting to the nuts worked well on this little monster. The cupcake went well with my red can of Coke and went down great my red tastebuds lol. Parking is difficult at times in the Pruneyard with really crazy speed bumps but once you find parking, head over to SBF for a simple cupcake and pull up a chair outside and enjoy the breeze!

Gotta agree with Stine D. I felt like I was looking at Cocola's items.
Nice atmosphere,
Got the chicken pesto crepe. To my suprise it came with a delicious salad that really went well with it. The crepe was just okay. Good, but salad won that battle.
Got excited over the cupcakes that were in a seperate display. Red Velvet? Whaaat? I was kind of disappointed, because I've had a Magnolia cupcake that was a DAY old and flown over from NY. But this wasn't terrible, just kind of bland. The frosting helped a bit and I did appreciate that it wasn't super sweet altogether. Not a nut fan and I think it just takes away from the whole cupcake role. I got confused for a second and thought I was eating a banana walnut muffin... (texture wise NOT tastewise!)
I'll come back to try more crepes though. And might consider them for when I want a cake made.

Cal and I met up with DC at this location for some crepes and quiche earlier today. While the ham, cheese and mushroom crepe was good, I prefer Cal's spinach quiche. The green salad that came with my crepe was good, too. Cal has orzo on the side, which he thought was a bit too cheesy. DC and I shared the Flourless Raspberry Chocolate Mousse. Comparing it to Cocola's, it was a bit too rich. We couldn't finish it. The service was great, and I prefer the seating here over the one in Sunnyvale. Remembering how wonderful the red velvet cupcakes were in Sunnyvale, I got two to-go. I'm giving one to my older nephew and saving the other for after dinner. Can't wait!

Just had one cupcake, and it was better than I remember! Yummmm.

I was happy to see that this Sugar Butter Flour (or as we call it, Sugar Butter Nut Hugger) was open at 10:30 p.m. last Saturday night. We had just had dinner elsewhere at the Pruneyard (OK, it was at Buca di Beppo - please don't judge!). Anyway, there aren't too many places open that late with yummy desserts at this time, so this makes the short list. of places to go for late night snacking. (I wonder what time they *do* close. 11?)
One nice thing about this location compared to the one in Sunnyvale is that there are a few more tables and it's more spacious (but not by much). However, unlike the Sunnyvale location this one doesn't have their delicious Sunday brunch.
The husband enjoyed his chocolate croissant and I liked my red velvet cupcake. The chocolate one looked very tempting though - I might get that next time.
Be sure to notice the cake made to look like a hamburger when you come through the front door.

You know how giddy one feels when entering a store with a wide variety of confections to choose from, knowing that each and every item will be equally delicious and enjoyable as the next? Sugar Butter Flower gives you exactly that, making you want to prance around and twiddle your fingers as you decide which item to choose, as your stomach just cannot hold all 20+ pieces of desserts offered.
Major plus for opening a location closer to my home, as now I will not have to venture all the way to Sunnyvale. The employees cheerfully greet patrons, adding to how wonderful the place is. There are tables and chairs both inside and outside to enjoy your dessert, as well as a very clean restroom in which you can wash your hands. The majority of items cost just under five bucks, and if taking to go, are nicely packed in plastic containers.
I've only gone once, but I am quite impressed with the quality of the desserts. My raspberry mango cake was just divine. I can't wait to devour everything else here...why someone would waste their time with dessert anywhere else in the plaza is beyond me. :)
They are definitely giving Bijan a run for the money!
(Plastic accepted, provided your total is over $5...easily achievable by adding yummy chocolates.)

I was happy to hear that when Sugar Butter Flour opened a location in Campbell (close to work) since I'd been to the one in Sunnyvale and looove their red velvet cupcakes (so moist!). I'm a little hesitant to try the cupcakes at this Campbell location since there have been so many negative reviews.
Anyway, it's in a cute location in the Pruneyard, and I have a feeling it's going to do well.
The good - Those oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Expensive at about $1 each but soooo good. I also loooove their mini croissants. Their sausage focaccia is good for a nice snack especially since they warm it up and cut it up for you. I've also had their ratatouille crepe which was HUGE and pretty tasty. Oh, and their puddings are great for dessert.
The bad - I absolutely despise trying to find parking at the Pruneyard during lunchtime... so go in the morning or after the lunch crowd leaves.
The mediocre - Their pastries. They sure do look good, but taste isn't anything special especially at the price.

The better half and myself were feinding for some sugar but didn't know where to feed our habit. I remembered hearing that SBF had opened a spot in Campbell so we hopped in the car and took a drive to try and get a fix.
A white and dark chocolate mouse and a strawberry and pound-cake parfait later we were duely sated.
This location is a little small but we only waited a few minutes for a seat. The desserts are delicious as were the cappuccinos we had. The service is very friendly. And the big plus is that they were open really late for a bakery.
We took home a chocolate and a regular bread pudding in case we started detoxing and needed a pick me up. Oh and the next day with a minute in the microwave and some whipped cream we were back on cloud nine.
The savory foods on display as well as the crepes that were coming out looked delicious too. Anyplace that has croque monsieurs gets extra props. Not because they are especially difficult but because you just don't find them too often in these here parts. Oh and we have had a croque from the Sunnyvale location and they are deelish.

This is a great addition to the neighborhood! It's walking distance for me, and we love to walk our pooch up there and get a dessert to take home.
When it's a little warmer at night, we'll probably sit outside and share a crepe.
It's a cute little store, and they're open pretty late, (especially for this area!) Everyone seems friendly, and the few things we've had have been pretty good.
A dessert place, that's open well into the evening was really needed!
When we walk there, i feel a little less guilty about splitting a dessert with my fiance!

Went to eat at rock bottom brewery and I saw this place. I had read reviews for it for its other sunnyvale location so I was excited to try it. Usually, I'm not too into rich sweety desserts (thats my gf's speciality) but since this place was hyped up, I wanted to give it a try.
This place was awesome. I got some kind of white/brown choc cake thing. mixing the best of both worlds and it wasn't too sweet but just sweet enough. The cake was moist and it was reasonably priced. Even their price list for big cakes seemed pretty reasonable.
I highly recommend this place for some late night desserts.

I was so excited to hear that this place opened up (in fact, I saw it on a Yelp talk thread within the last couple of days), as I've been to their Sunnyvale store & have liked what I've tried there! So, they've been open for 3 days now, according to one of the owners, Irit (I just consulted their web page & figured out who she was).
I came over to check it out the first day I felt better, & of course it was raining out, which is too bad, because they have several bistro tables & chairs outside available, along with built in benches (lucky them) near the entrance.
They offer cakes, desserts, pastries, crepes (sweet & savory), chocolates, some savory items like quiche, croque monsieur, foccacia, sandwiches and drinks. They have a menu posted on the back wall, but don't forget to look in the display cases!
I opted for a late lunch...quiche lorraine, which came with a choice of side green salad or orzo salad, a hot chocolate (I'm not sure if this was listed on their menu, as I scanned it really quickly & just asked them if they offered it), & got a dessert to go (chocolate hazelnut napoleon). If you opt to stay-in, there are 5 small tables indoors which seat 2-3, & they will bring your food to you. There was a large group there when I was there, & they had pushed a couple tables together. I lucked out & took the last available table.
The quiche lorraine was good--yummm, cheese. The orzo salad has spinach, olives, red onions, feta cheese, was a little heavy on the red onions (for me, so I just pushed aside the extra pieces of red onion), but otherwise good. Hot chocolate was nice & warm, perfect for the rainy weather, and a nice change from all the tea I've been guzzling at home.
The place is small, but warm & cozy, with displays of their elaborately decorated cakes by the front door. I sat by a cake with cute ducks on top.
The staff is friendly & pleasant, quick to bus tables when people leave, and I like the fact that if they don't know something yet (which is not surprising since the place just opened), they ask, instead of passing on misinformation.
I took a peek at their hours listed, & they are open until 9:30 or 10:30 every night, which I think is great! This would be a perfect spot for a pre- or post-movie stop, whether it be with a date or some friends.
I will most definitely be back to try more items, especially since it's close to where I live!
Located on the back side of the Pruneyard near Rock Bottom Brewery & Lisa's Tea Treasures.

It's 10:00pm right now. It's a Saturday night. I'm in Lucille Packard Children's Hospital. My wife is going to be induced tomorrow. Our daughter is going to be in our arms very soon. What's the 1st thing that comes to mind. Yes, that's right! To review Sugar Butter Flour. Hey, don't judge me, okay!
Anyway, we came here on a Friday during Lent because we wanted pizza and couldn't eat meat. Pizza? At SBF? No, but Pizza My Heart is but a few walking steps from SBF. So, after getting our large Pesto Pizza we stopped by the new SBF in Pruneyard. We never went to the other location, so this would be our first time. We got this chocolate dome and a layered dessert with hazelnut praline. We also got a oatmeal chocolate chip cookie based on another Yelpers suggestion. The cookie was good, but not worth the $1 charge. The other desserts were very good, but not as good as I was expecting. With all the positive reviews, I was expecting an explosion of flavor in my mouth. Kind of like when I eat a Teuscher chocolate. Anyway, I will definitely come back again, because they had a huge selection and I want to try some of the other things. The price is about $4-$5, but price usually doesn't matter to me when it comes to sweets! =)
Also, as most of you probably already know, the parking situation is horrendous on a weekend, so be prepared. The service is the exact opposite. The ladies in there were friendly and answered all my questions, since it was my first time there.
3.5 stars, but rounding up for the benefit of the doubt.

I don't know why I was so disappointed with this place. : (
I guess I had my heart set on a cupcake, but when I looked at them in the glass stand on the counter, they looked kinda dry. Not all moist and with delectable frosting like in the picture. double : ( . Maybe because everything is baked fresh in the morning, and since I went right before closing there is barely any selection and items aren't as fresh.
The other desserts and the custom cakes looked spectacular and the place is open late on the weekends for something sweet after dinner.

This place is in such a great location in the Pruneyard. I came here for lunch and wanted to try out their crepes. My mouth was just watering from all the great display of desserts and the smell of crepes on the grill.
I however was a little disappointed with their crepes. The stuffing was good but the shell was too thick and soft. My mom got a crepe that had loads of feta cheese that was too overpowering for our taste buds. My friend got a sweet nutella, banana, and strawberry combo crepe but when she dug into it, it was missing the nutella.
When I went they were only open for 2 weeks so maybe they still need to get in the groove of things there. I'd probably try them out again but hopefully they'll perfect the crepe recipe then.

Got my baby's birthday cake here (we usually go to Icing on the Cake in Los Gatos but missed their order cut-off date this year). The actual cake was good, but the "buttercream" frosting was, I'm quite sure, a can of Crisco shortening spread over the top! Not what I expected for a $35 cake: not sweet, greasy, flavorless. They were very nice and the rest of the desserts in the case looked awesome, but just stay away from the pseudo-buttercream! I will give them another try since it's closeby and a cute place.

*Disclaimer: Minor rant ahead
What's with reviewing places before they open? I mean, if you've been to a special pre-opening event or something, that's understandable...but if it's just for the FTR, that really does nothing for the business or the community.
Just thought I'd throw that out there since I've been seeing this for lots of "Coming Soon!" places lately.

Anyway, SBF *is* open now, so you should give it a try. While everything is absolutely delicious that I've tried so far (a hazelnut chocolate cake and the creme brulee), I can't imagine coming here other than to pick something up for someone's birthday or to treat a friend or co-worker. It's *that* special. And by "special"...I mean expensive.
It's hard to put a price on cake this good though, so I guess it's safe to round up...
Definitely a worth-while addi[c]tion in the Pruneyard!

Latest Update...
Well of course I have been back to SBF multiple times by now (4/3). Their savory crepes are yummy, but made with the sweet crepe batter, kind of a funny combination. Love the roasted chicken one!
On the latest visit I, of course, gobbled more cupcakes. So far I've sampled chocolate, vanilla, banana, lemon poppyseed, and red velvet. Favorites: vanilla, banana, red velvet.
Red Velvet is SUPER dense and thick, but amazing. Banana, so moist with a wonderful cream cheesey frosting. Vanilla is the ultimate clsasic with a matching vanilla buttercream.
FYI don't go too close to closing or else the beautiful cuppies will be ALL GONE. And that makes me a sad panda.

UPDATE 3/9:
Well as everyone who knows me already figured out...Lent only lasted a scant two weeks for me. No way could I not have dessert for 40 days. What was I thinking??
So given that I owned up to falling off the wagon and offered up my 12 Hail Mary's to the higher power....I finally got my chance to try SBF today to get some treatsies for a small dinner party we're hosting this evening.
I'm familiar with SBF in Sunnyvale and so it was easy for me to choose some yummies in the Campbell location as well. Duo Mousse, Double Baked Cheesecake, Tiramisu and Orange Chocolate Mousse made it's way home with me. As well as red velvet and double chocolate cuppies to try. And because Eugene made it sound so *#&! good...the vanilla bread pudding.
The cupcakes were very moist and yummy, the red velvet was the winner for all 3 of us that tried both choco and red velvet. Pretty dense as well. Cute decoration on them. Bread pudding is still chillin' out in the fridge...but the other desserts are long gone. The Orange Chocolate Mousse was amazing, touch of Grand Marnier mmmm.
Most of the items in the tiny shop are brought over from the Sunnyvale location each morning. They make the salads and crepes in-house on the Campbell location, but the individual desserts, candies, croissants, cupcakes, etc are all trucked over. The gal mentioned they were responsible for garnishing everything that's brought over...aka finishing touches.
They don't do the Sunday brunch like Sunnyvale, but their savory and sweet crepe list looked amazing. I can't wait to go back and have a lunch and dessert there.
Super fast and friendly service, though the inside of the place was absolutely burning hot...it was 77 today and you could feel every degree of that inside the building. They had the doors open to let air in and out which was great, but hope their little cooling cases will hold up...all those windows in the little square box that is now SBF definitely are heat-conductors. Come summer it'll be scorching. Grab your goodies & sit outside!

ORIGINAL REVIEW: 2/20/08:
Whee!! Skeedaddled by last nite on my way to a salon appt and even though I had read Eugene's note on it coming to the Pruneyard...there it was!! In all it's super tiny buttery floury glory.
For a second I thought it was open since there was someone inside and someone else carrying a cake to the front door. But then the inside person had to unlock the door for the outside person and I saw that the cases were empty at this point. But they seem VERY close.
All I know is that I was JAZZED they weren't open yet. Why??? Because I gave up desserts for Lent. So seriously, how cruel would it be if a brand spanking new SBF was open for business less than 25 feet from me and I couldn't go in??
Next time. Oh sweet, next time.
UPDATE 2/21: Apparently they are now open. Darn, 30 days too early. It's only sweet SBF Dreams for me til then....!!
