8 reviews for Sub Conscious
SubConscious's sign says "It's the bread!" Well... if it's anything, it's most certainly not the bread.
Otherwise they are pretty good sandwiches, though. I'd say they're better than Subway by a long-shot, but not quite as good as most Quizno's stuff, but they're cheaper than Quizno's, AND they're locally owned so that's points.
I haven't tried any of their other stuff (i.e. wings and pasta), but I've seen other people eat it and it looks like it might be pretty ok. Maybe better than the subs?
I did not realize before reading everyone else's reviews that they delivered... I guess I wasn't paying much attention, because it seems to be pretty prominently advertised now that I think about it.
I am no longer preaching the ways of Sub Conscious.
While their food remains delicious, their customer service is ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. I never complain at restaurants, but the last 2 times there were issues with our orders so I called to let them know. The first time, the dude was not very nice but I was like "whatevs, no big deal" & got over it. It wasn't enough to stop ordering from them.
So the next time we placed our usual online order & ordered hot wings. On the website (https://www.campusfood...) it specifically says:
"All wings are cut up and deep fried. Served with blue cheese and your choice of sauce"
So we get the order & there are our wings. Plain with no sauces anywhere. Who eats wings without blue cheese? So I called up and was very polite and stated what happened & the girl who answered (Megan) was very combatative and esentially called me a liar even though I was just quoting the site. She shouted to some dude ("Hey RAY RAY!!!!" ) to back her up and they both told me i was basically lying and did not even apologize. It was not cool.
Forget their high priced subs. They taste awesome but they are not worth being treated like crap over. I plan on not only taking my business elsewhere, but telling everyone I know the same.
Like the sign says: "it's the bread..." This place is so much better than any franchise sub shop in Raleigh. I always get the turkey sub special. They toast the bread in the oven and let the provolone cheese melt on the bread some before they put your toppings on it. They also add some salt and pepper--something I normally don't ask for but like here.
It's not as fast as Subway or Jimmy John's, but it's totally worth the 5 minute wait. It's sort of a crappy location and it's always empty but that doesn't mean it sucks.
When you want a sub, but don't want to go to the typical Quizno's or Subway, Subconscious is an excellent alternative. The restaurant is located on Hillsborough Street really close to NC State making it a pretty convenient place to stop by in between classes for a quick bite to eat, or to pick up a meal before a night out on the town.
The best part about this place in my opinion is that they deliver. How many sub places do you know that will do that- awesome idea.
This place is definitely an institution around NCSU campus. They've been around as long as I can remember.
Sub Conscious has always provided a great sub at reasonable prices, long before we had a Quizno's on every corner. The sandwiches made by Sub Conscious are a bit more on the greasy side then a place like Quizno's, more akin to the subs made by a pizza joint. The cheese steaks were my favorites before I converted to vegetarianism, and I still find myself hankering for them every time I drive by. This place is not to be missed by any sandwich fan, college student or hungry person who lives in the area.
An added bonus--they deliver!
Departments I've worked for at NCSU have ordered from Sub Conscious since 2000 for events or just for lunch. The food started off ok, and my husband and I would sometimes go after work for a quick dinner. But a little while ago their quality started slipping. The meats tasted old, it took forever to get a sandwich (even if we were the only people in the store)...just an overall bad experience every time. We don't order from them at work anymore nor do we pick up sandwiches for dinner. Heavenly Ham and Cup a Joe have our catering business now.
still the best sub shop in the USA. and yes "it's the bread" and so much more.
The Manhattan project, nuclear fission and fusion? Pretty cool. The horseless carriage? It's handy. The sandwich now, that's a human achievement. Sub Conscious carries on this duty, nay, sacred privilege, honorably. They have a bevy of hot and cold subs (and some other stuffs, but I'll not have any of that heathen food when a solid sandwich is to be had) at varying sizes and their service is prompt. Their subs aren't mind-blowing but they ARE tasty; I give 'em four stars for delivery service and diversity of sandwich. Onward, brave soldiers.
