Stumptown is owned by the same people who own Zeitgeist, and it shows.  They know how to run a good bar!  Like the latter bar, Stumptown has a wonderful beer garden -- this is perhaps Stumptown's best feature.  The beer garden overlooks the Russian River, and on a sunny day, there's no place better to enjoy a cold one (except maybe floating along in an inner tube).

We also love the vast selection of local microbrews, the fireplace and comfy indoor couches, pool table, and bar snacks.

I am updating this place not because of a return visit but because of a email from the owner. The owner showed concern about our visit. When I go back to Guerneville  I will stop and give this place another try.

Nice view of the river but the beers were so so and the service was pathetic.

Had a great weekend in Guerneville for Labor Day weekend.  After hitting Sunset Beach for a few hours on the Saturday, we hit up Stumptown Brewery. Great pulled pork sandwich, great burger, great fries, great beer, great outdoor deck. SLOW service. Think they forgot our order or something. But still a cool spot.

I love to go to Stumptown mainly for the beer and the atmosphere but I have had the pulled pork sandwich and found it to be awesome. I cannot say that I would have tried the Cesar salad but then I don't like Cesar salads to begin with but really its a brewery and for a brewery I think the food is great. Try the Rat Bastard Pale Ale its my favorite. Oh and remember cash only but they do have an ATM if your willing to pay two bucks.

Came here for lunch today with 5 other family members. I loved the patio and it really reminded me of beer gardens in Germany. The food was pretty good and their garlic fries are definitely garlicky. I liked their wheat beer. One of the guys who brought our food out though was very rude and seemed like he hated his life. All in all, good food, great setting, okay service. Would I go back? Yeah, maybe in a couple years.

This place has a cool feel to it and the back patio is great but the food is Blahhhh! I had a caesar salad and thought I was going to be sick. I was going to give it 2 stars but I'll add one more for the beer, and the fact that you can canoe here and get drunk.

Me and my Fam love Stumptown! And not just because it is a Brewery a rocks throw from our summer home but the food, beer and cocktails are perfect. No matter what, trust the guys in the back and always go for the special.  The grub is always fresh, delicious and hot. Not your typical bar food. Their patio is large (Outdoor Bar as well) plenty of room to sit, eat and enjoy the view of the river. I don't drink beer but I hear nothing but good things from the people I go with. They also make a mean margarita. Nice Break after a little Westside Road Wine Tasting or to enjoy some afternoon cocktails.

This place is just cool! The outdoor patio was great before, but now that they put in an outdoor BAR... things got even better! The bartenders make a mean stiff drink and the prices are pretty good, too!

Love Zeitgeist, and I Love Stumptown. There is just something about a beer garden. Great shady outdoor patio with bar access, tables and stairs down to a large grass area on the river. I had the Southwest Chicken Sandwich. Grilled skinless breast topped with melty Pepperjack Cheese. Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Roasted Peppers & Chipotle Aioli along with a pint of their Rat Bastard pale ale. Adim, my brother in law, had the Slow Smoked Pulled Pork Sandwich Pulled Pork, slow smoked for 12 hours, simmered in our house BBQ sauce & topped with cool tangy coleslaw. Looked damn good. The wife had the Fish and Chips. Also damn good. Good pub food, great setting, just wish they had a more extensive menu. Well it is a bar first, grill second I guess.

Our first night in Guerneville was a smashing success! The Stumptown Brewery will make you feel like a loc, as you hang with the folks who are bolted to their bar stools and heckle while you play pool.

The Stumptown is a huge bar, with a fireplace on the left (!) - perfect for a crisp fall night. The bartender calls out to you right away, "hey guys!" and sets you up with the house brews. The Rat Bastard Pale Ale and the Fossil Fuel with "ancient yeast" did us right, yes indeed.

The pool table was refreshingly clear of any competition. No one stepping to play doubles or any of that nonsense. Plus, ashtrays were plentiful, and perfect for that mid-game ciggy. Not to mention the back porch, which probably holds hundreds on hot summer nights, conveniently on the river and next to the roasthouse where they turn the pigs on the spit.

Tomorrow we conquer the river. Take down the fishin' poles, that one is mine!

This is a great place to stop and have some beers when out on the Russian River. Stumptown is dominated by locals and the crowd is always friendly and mellow.

The beer is all good quality, albeit a small selection They usually only have one or two of their own brews on tap (Rat Bastard is my favorite) but I often end up getting one of their excellent guest beers like Racer 5 or RRBC IPA.

Stumptown also has a full bar and sell cigarettes. The outdoor patio that looks out over the river is huge and accommodates lots of tourists and live bands in the summer time. In the winter, the clientele consists (almost exclusively) of local regulars -- most of whom are quite colorful.

The menu is extremely limited but their fish & chips are pretty good.

I walked in for the first time and saw a guy in a Bender's shirt and a tin Zeitgeist sign on the wall.  As soon as my friend told me that Stumptown is run by the same people as Zeitgeist, it all made sense.  Great dive bar with an awesome, huge outdoor deck overlooking the river (we watched a nine year old hunt pigeons with a BB rifle).  Not too crowded, either, considering i was Sunday afternoon on Memorial Day weekend (plus they had a band).  But anyhoo, even as cool at the deck was, I would totally love hanging out in cavelike bar.

I also wish I hadn't eaten right before coming, because my friends ordered some of the best-looking burgers I'd ever seen.  I'm definitely going to come hungry next time.

The only negatives I have for this place is that dogs are not allowed on the deck, and the two Stumptown beers I had were, well, terrible (IMHO, of course).  Seriously, I had to choke down the wheat.  But everything else about this place is so great, I'll give them a pass on the beer.

Stopped off here after kayaking.  Was a bit crowded since we got here after a bbq/beer fest was going on.  Great patio, but the view was obstructed by some trees.  Pulled pork sandwich was average, but the beers were great.  Had a lot of character inside, but some of the wall hangings seemed a little forced in a Chotchkie's type of way.  Other than that, I'll probably be back if I'm up there again.  You can't go wrong enjoying some pints on the deck.

Stumptown is a dog's Eden-it has a big grassy patch that rolls down to the Russian River so he may imbibe himself in the water whilst his owner drinks great beers on the sun deck.

I've come here with my sister and her dog a few times, met almost the entire population of Sonoma County west of Santa Rosa, and always left, um, sedated.

N.B. There is an inordinate amount of pregnant women drinking here.  That more than IRKS me. No reflection on the establishment though, just the backwards Boonie sticks.  JK-I grew up in Mendo :)

Gold
pure gold
you walk into the dark bar and wonder what all the fuss is about, sure they have a fire and a dead animal above the mantle but what bar doesnt...
then you walk a little further, see elvis, smell the food, see the hint of the brewery and then you see the opening to the world outside....and.....
the greatest deck bar ever created!
Set on the russian river with a deck bigger than most pubs, stumptown is beautiful.  The locals make you feel like a local... even the dirty australian owner seems to be treated like a local... the beer is beaut, Rat Bastard will save your soul and the new Fossil Fuels beer (made with dead 4000000000000000000 year old mosquitos or something) is tasty as hell on a summer day.
In August is the BBQ and Beer Festival which if you like either bbq or beer is.... well you know...
everytime i am in guerneville i stop there...
but i suppose i have no choice...  there is no "i didn't drink a Rat" in TEAM

I LOVE this place. First off, the food sucks in Guerneville in general but Stumptown does BBQ right. The ribs were awesome as was the view. The staff is very friendly and welcoming- when you walk in you feel like youre crashing someones party, but its all good- they are a nice bunch of regulars and employees.  Great prices as well, ribs with the trimmings were $8.00!!!  This is the kind of place you can hang out all afternoon drinking and eating....
***UPDATE: Met the owner Pete, nicest guy ever. If you find yourself sitting next to a guy with an Aussie accent-its him, say hi. He is very proud of his little gem on the river and it shows.

Enough food to choke a horse or a big girl.  Food was pretty good.  Very "country" style and American.  I like my BBQ sauce spicy but most places don't carry spicy...  neither does Stumptown Brewery.  But the staff was very friendly and I enjoyed the outdoor seating.

My favorite place to drink beer in Guerneville(well, besides Johnson's Beach). This place is just so nice with its huge, luxurious deck.  Sit out and listen to some live music or just chill whilst big, puffy green clouds sail by...AHEM! As has already been mentioned, the food and beer are great, but what really does it for this place is the ambiance.  My wife and I often camp at Johnson's and so we'll rent a kayak or canoe in the morning, paddle upstream to Stumptown, hang out for a few hours and then paddle back.  Good times, good times.

These guys and gals are the best for catering!!  They catered our wedding on November 1st, and our guest still rave about the food.  "The best ribs this side of the Mississippi".  Deanna, the Manager, and Mark, the Chef, we're both extremely helpful and patient with me (bridezilla).  Since our wedding was not at their restaurant, they came by beforehand to check out where the food would be laid out and follow up with any last minute requests/questions.  Also, we got a keg from them which was nice to have really good (Rat Bastard Ale) locally brewed beer.  Great patio too!  I want to come back in the summer to hang out on the patio.

Does it make sense to patronize a brewery if you don't drink beer? It does if you like BBQ as good as what's served here. Options are limited to St. Louis pork ribs, smoked beef brisket, and pulled pork, each served solo or as part of a two-way combo (why not a triple?), and they're all moist, tender, and on the spicy side. Skip the coleslaw, potato, or macaroni salad and choose chili and cornbread as your sides. The rest of the oddly eclectic menu includes items as diverse as nachos, fish and chips, and a PB&J sandwich. The home brews are rumored to be good - you can decided for yourself by sampling any or all of the nine on tap.

It's Zeitgeist- but instead of hanging out in the sun with a stack of chemical toilets under an on ramp,  you're on a huge sunny deck overlooking the Russian River.  Yes, this place was established by the same guy who brought us our beloved Zeitgeist in San Francisco.  In addition to offering a small selection of local north bay brews, this rural brew pub also serves up to three beers that are brewed on-site.  Most notably is Rat Bastard Ale, which exemplifies the very NorCal golden ale style that has been seminal in bringing craft brewing mainstream in America.

Went there yesterday with wifey and my 2 yo daughter. I've been there a few times before but it's been a while. They renovated their back patio and made some changes to their menu. Good beers on tap including their own pale ale. It felt like May or June up there, the weather was great!  The food was very good but different than I remember, they were out of potato salad which kinda sucked. Otherwise it was a very cool lunch.
