16 reviews for Studio DNA on Beverly
One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
A few months back i won (for the wifey) a blow out and make up session. I sent Danny an email to make an appointment and to inquire on adding additional services to the session. Danny called me the next morning and began to set things in motion. The plan was to get my wife a haircut, layers, highlights along with the blow out and make up.
Danny set up the appt with Karen and she worked her magic. My wife was extremely happy and she's been back twice and has also brought her BFF. The highlights look very natural and the layers give her hair lots of volume. She also suggested a shampoo, conditioner, and the magical moroccan oil. Karen knows her stuff and gets it done. As part of the prize, she also got a make up session. Unfortunately Lindsey left since we were there late. Karen stepped in and did the make up. Danny did call me up the next day apologizing for the small snafu and offered to make it up with a free make up session. I told Danny that Karen took care of it, but he still left it as a option for us. Seriously, that is great service.
While i was waiting for the wifey's pampering session to get done, i asked to see if i could also get a hair cut. I wasn't gonna let my wife have all the fun. I was taken into a magical world by Amy. I got my hair washed and massaged 1st then cut cut cut. Amy and I chatted while she was cutting my hair and i got free mimosas + refills too. After the cut, i got a hot towel over my head and face. Now that sent me to nirvana. Amy did a fantastic job with my bushy hair and chops.
The whole entire staff was fantastic. Everyone was professional, fun, and no drama. They kept checking on us to see if we needed anything and kept our glasses of mimosa full. We even got a thank you card a couple of days later and Danny called to see if we were happy with the service.
I know how you girls like to stick with a hairstylist even if they suck or overcharge you sometimes, but if i was able to get my wife to jump ship from her old stylist of 15+ years, i think you should give Studio DNA a try.
Bonus:
New clients get 20% off their first session and if you bring in new clients you'll get 20% too.
Woohoo! I've never had so many people compliment my hair before!
I won a make over** from Studio DNA before the big elite event at the Andaz a couple of weeks ago.
After a brief consultation with Aubrey, we decided to go with a very mod 50s hairstyle. My hair was washed with Bumble and Bumble products. I loved the warm towel during the conditioning process. It was so nice!
I arrived back to the salon chair to my delightful mimosa. Aubrey spent so much time working with my fine hair to really poof it out. He even used some stuff to blend in the black bobby pins to my dark brown shade.
Next came the makeup. I got a really soft yet smokey look, very atypical of my usual colorful one but it worked really well with the hairstyle.
I felt like a million bucks walking into the swanky hotel with my swanky new look!
Thanks, guys! I look forward to coming back here when I'm ready for a new hair-do/ style.
** estimated value $100
I was so very fortunate to have come here yesterday before the Elite party. It was a great gift. I adored this salon.
The people there are super friendly, personable and endearing. They tell you what they are doing exactly so you know what to do when you get home.
I wasn't quite sure what I wanted done with my hair so I gave a vague explanation about it and my dress and Karen helped and came up with a very wonderful done updo.
The shampoo, conditioning, and products offered here made me drool. They smell wonderful and are great for your needs.
Karen asked me what kind of problems I have with my hair and then evaluated for herself before recommending products. I will be back to get some Morrocan Oil as soon as I can.
The studio pampers you in every way possible. As I got my hair done, I drank mimosas and was also offered coffee. The environment is fresh and modern. When you walk in you immediately feel happier.
The shampoo'ing and rinse there was a bit of an oasis. The massage and the additional heat of the washcloth before the end rinse made me so much more thankful I had this treat.
Damon did my makeup. He's a bit newer to the studio from San Diego but he was wonderful. He told me what he was doing as he was doing it and even showed me on himself some of the technique.
He also came up with the idea of Teacher Appreciation Evenings:
Complimentary hair services & wine & cheese for teachers.
Rosie, the other makeup artist does classes and offered some advice as well. Classes run $100 an hr and go through the basics of application and technique.
They also offer waxing services.
You will love going here. Treat yourself if you have the chance. I never had anyone do my makeup like that or the degree of pampering I had last night. And the best part of all is that their prices for normal work are not at that high level as what you get with the pampering.
Thnx so much yelp for introducing me to studio DNA... I definitely will be back!
Loved Studio DNA! Adorable salon with a hip, modern feel. I did some research about where I wanted to get my Brazilian Keratin Straightening done, and after a few phone calls I decided that Studio DNA was the place for me.
I met with Dane, who is fabulous. After our 15 minute consultation he booked me for the next day. The whole process couldn't have lasted more than 2 hours (and I have a lot of hair.) Dane was great- really friendly and smart. The procedure wasn't cheap ($400 without tip) but my hair looks and feels amazing. Just an FYI, the procedure usually costs $350, but I have long thick hair.
I paid in advance, but mentioned to Dane that I found Studio DNA through Yelp. When I got home I had a voicemail from him saying that Yelper's get 20% off, and since I had already paid, he was gonna get me a free haircut. This was very kind of him- he didn't have to do it.
After emailing several salons, DNA was the only one to respond (what's up with that?!) Danny responded within a day, sending me a link to their blog - http://studiodnasalon..../ which lists their promos. He invited me out to a special event they were having w/ cocktails and discounted treatments. Unfortunately I couldn't make it but I was already impressed with his prompt reply and decided I'd go there for my next cut.
Fast forward to last Friday. I had a couple of hrs to kill before meeting my girlfriends so I called the salon to see if they could fit me in. They were able to get me in within the hour to see Amy. So I get there and there's plenty of street parking. Looks like they also valet. I walk inside and immediately a group of girls turn and look me up and down. Really, could you at least TRY to be subtle? I ignored them and checked in.
Then my stylist Amy came out - and she was seriously a breath of fresh air. She looked SO friendly and sweet. All doubts flew out of my head and after one look at her hair, I knew I was in good hands. I only wanted a trim, but she ended up fixing some of my layers and cleaning up my overall look. I wanted to keep my length, which I told her from the beginning, and I'm amazed she was able to cut so much without it looking so.
I think what really sealed the deal was the amount of time she took to style my hair. I was on my way to a bachelorette party and after telling her so, she made sure to give me plenty of volume and sleekness. My hair looked great that night..and the next day..and the next night too. And the best part? I received 20% off since it was my first time.
I'm so glad I ended up coming here..and even more glad that Amy was the one available when I called. I am definitely returning!
This Christmas Eve, the Savior was in town, and his name was Eugene Park. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, my hair is GOLD to me. So when my roommate offered to help my bangs out a bit, what with the trench Christmas shopping had dug in my wallet, I said okay. Fast forward to me sitting in a chair with huge tears welling up in my eyes, and choice swear words spewing like Christmas confetti out my mouth...
Eugene is awesome. He gave me exactly the evenness i wanted, removed all the irritating bits and pieces and fly-aways, and kept everything I wanted intact. Most importantly, because I like classic, simple styles, he kept me from looking like a little old lady. He LISTENED to what I wanted. Do you know how hard that is to find in a stylist? He's at the Beverly branch, and I'm thinking of going back to him for color. In case you still don't have an idea of how grateful and appreciative I am of this man, consider this: I don't write reviews all that much (although I should). Especially not when I'm otherwise annoyed at having a messed-up holiday.
Eugene (and Studio DNA), hats off. No, really. Hats off -- with hair cut this well, who needs a hat?

Last night I died and went to Studio DNA...
...no, seriously. BEST shampoo-head and neck massage/scratch OF MY LIFE. Audrey rules.
I was so stressed out trying to make my 5pm appointment through after work traffic from UCLA, the whole time yelling and pounding on my steering wheel and cursing the traffic Gods for frowning down upon me that day. As soon as I walked into the salon everything changed. All that frustration, all that stress, all that overheated, overworked, over-everything just melted away. Everyone was totally sweet and were able to accommodate my supremely late behind. I plopped down in the chic waiting area, was offered a drink several times (but it wasn't until Danny specifically asked if I'd like a mimosa that I indulged....who can say no to a mimosa?), and chilled out with my fellow makeover winners. Oh, did I forget to mention? Studio DNA gave away 5 free hair and makeup makeovers to some lucky yelpers so that we'd be all dolled up for the elite event that same night. We all looked hotttttttt after the crew was done with us by the way.
So after Audrey made me almost fall asleep in the wonderfully luxurious shampoo chair, Amy woke me up with easy flowing convo while she worked her magic. She made it a point to ask me if I had any ideas and if I particularly hated anything before she got started. She wound up giving me tons of volume, some pretty curls and gave me an up-swept 'do that was literally EXACTLY what I wanted even though I didn't know what I wanted at the time. She nailed it.
Lindsey took over from there and with some expert flicks of the brush and chirpy comments she ALSO nailed my look. How could they BOTH do me so well?? They're magicians....that's the only way to explain it.
My completed look: http://static.px.yelp....
Oh how I wish I could throw myself into their skilled hands for EVERY party! After months of *thinking* about *maybe* checking out Studio DNA and their awesome promotions I am now hooked. I have converted. Sign me up for my next hair-cut ASAP.
Had an appt. with Dane at Studio DNA...he did an awesome job!
Spent a lot of time and effort on my cut and color - at a great price too!!
Everyone else that worked there seemed pretty cool and the Salon is nice inside.
I would def. recommend this place!
I was so sick of my very wavy thick hair and was desperately searching for a top notch salon to give me a great straight perm experience. I chose the right one, hands down. I got the Bionic Hair Straightening treatment, which took about three hours of smelly chemicals and cost about $330 the first time I got it and $380 the second, which seems pricey but is toally worth it for eight months of straight hair. Tina is fabulous! She's really friendly and down to earth and has straightened my hair twice, perfectly. She gave me a cut once, and while it was too simple in my opinion, but too simple is better than too complex (which can mean ugly). I'm a little sad her prices just went up because she got a promotion, but then again, you go girl! The salon overall is very upbeat, relaxing, and accomodating. They have a little closet for you to change from your shirt to a salon top, and even offer you water and coffee while you get pampered!
You've gotta go see "my girl", Lindsey.
Lindsey rocks like you cannot imagine!
What would I do without Yelp? Yelp found me Lindsey. I was searching for a make up artist and hair stylist for my wedding. You'd think in Los Angeles this would be easy. But no, finding her was tough, and now that I have, I WANT EVERYONE ELSE TO KNOW. I found DNA on Yelp and read some great reviews and decided to contact the salon myself to get some more information. Danny, one of the owners, got on the phone with me, answered questions, took my info. and within the hour sent me a quote. He couldn't say enough good things about all his stylists, and because Lindsey was new in town, wanted to send some business her way. Danny even called two days after emailing a quote to check in. Wow! What service.
My mom and I set up an appointment, thrilled to know that one person was talented enough to do both hair and make up for an event (for those of you planning a wedding, the fewer people you need to depend on for your day, the better!). The trial was at the salon and fabulous! Everyone at the salon was friendly, helpful, inviting, professional. LIndsey REALLY listens. She's very good at hearing her clients and doing what they ask. My mom and I don't overdo it with the make up and she didn't try to talk me into fake eyelashes or a hairpiece (you stylists out there doing that - save it for the Burlesque dancers!!!!). She did her job well, better than well. We were impressed. I looked like me, but picture perfect. My mom was thrilled. We booked her for the wedding. In fact I loved her work so much that I cancelled my haircut with my (sad to say) former stylist and booked my highlights and haircut with Lindsey for the week before my wedding.
You mean there's one person out there who can be your colorist, your stylist, and your bridal expert?? UH HUH!!! I know, she should get a medal!
Flash to day of wedding. Lindsey is not only on time, she's a little early, perfect! She sets up at our hotel and is clearly very excited to do her job. She works swiftly and with confidence and is constantly throwing compliments your way. When she was done making me gorgeous, she cheerfully proclaimed, "One bride!" and threw her arms up in celebration. To top it off Danny even checked in after the event.
What more can I say? This woman delivers, and at a reasonable price. I'm happy I can now refer to Lindsey as "my girl."
i'm always very particular about where and who cuts my hair after doing extensive research about the salon so this is one of the rare times i go to a salon through friend's recommendation.
Had my hair cut by Rada. She has nice hair so i wasn't really worried about my haircut. the shampooing by one of the guy took about 20 mins, kinda long yet the scalp massage was so comfy i fell asleep for about 5 seconds.
overall i love my haircut. i've got everything i'd wanted and Rada gave me a short explaination of my haircut. it's been 2 days and it's really easy to manage. just wash blow and go. no styling is needed.
Just a heads up to all the lad's out there, Studio DNA knows how to take care of a blokes head fur better than most places out there. I would recommend this location just as highly as the Santa Monica one, which is nice.
Lindsey Burwell at Studio DNA is simply amazing! She always greets me with the warmest smile and makes me feel special. She has done my hair for the past 4 years and I love that she always has ideas for my hair. I have rarely given her suggestions, but everything that she has done I have loved. I love that she always knows new trends and techniques that she is excited to try on me. She gives me color that is beautiful and fresh, but always grows out wonderfully. I have also gone to her for updos and they are always modern and never cliched. She is great!
Lindsey Burwell at Studio DNA is the best stylist I have ever had in my life! SERIOUSLY! She is greatly missed in Albuquerque, NM. Never have I had the pleasure of enjoying my hair being cut until I experienced cuts and color with Lindsey. I have the type of hair that most stylists do not know how to cut. (thin, wavy and frizzy). But Lindsey is so intuitive about my hair. I just tell her what I want and she goes beyond making it look incredible. She gives a great cut that I can manage on my own after I wash it. Lindsey is a talented stylist. You will not be disappointed, just utterly impressed!
This place gave my "sporty" gf the best hair cut!!! It can be hard to make any chick with iron flat hair look great, let alone a lesbian who wants a "cool" cut that doesn't require a lot of prep. I love this place and my gf looks hot! Sadly it's in LA so I'll need to find a good spot for her in Boston...
oops this is supposed to be under Studio DNA hair studio!!!
Los Angeles is lucky to have Lindsey! She has been my stylist for the past 3 years in Albuquerque, NM... and now I'll be traveling to L.A. to guarantee my hair is cut with precision and attention to detail. Aside from her superior technical abilities, Lindsey always makes you feel cared for and like you're hanging out with your best friend. I couldn't sing her praises enough.
