Review from Heather R.
Los Angeles, CA
I have been taking both Spanish and French classes here for about 6 months now, and am beyond happy with the experience. For French, I am taught by Corinne, who is a charismatic powerhouse of Gallic energy. We are currently reading "L'Etranger," which provides not only literary value, but improves my vocabulary.
For Spanish, I have Teresa, a vibrant Guatemalan who loves tapas, teaching and life in general. Currently, I am taking a conversation class which meets for coffee/tea with another student so we can learn off of each other (and our mistakes).
The prices are reasonable, and Strommen is willing to work with you and your schedule. I would recommend Strommen over Berlitz any day of the week. -

My buddy and I took Italian lessons from Garrett in preparation for our Italian vacation. He was able to tailor the class to our specific requests & needs. No wasting time on "the apple is red"... and other unnecessary mumbo jumbo. Garrett taught us well!! We were able to have basic conversations with locals, order food, ask for help, and most importantly.. we understood when trains were late or canceled, as some train stations did not provide English translations. I did mistakenly tell some man "we HAVE Americans", BUT I was able to catch my own mistake. I hold no hostages, I swear!!
And that was all accomplished after 10 hours of tutoring. Yes, he gives you homework which we often did not complete due to laziness and our own insane schedules...but we still walked away with enough comprehension to get ourselves out of jams. Worth every penny and highly recommended for travelers. You can't ask a phrase book questions nor can it correct your pronunciation... and if you are going to visit another country, show some enthusiasm and appreciation for their culture and language!!!! -

Spanish Classes in L.A.? I hired a Strommen Tutor for private Spanish classes after trying expensive group classes, tapes, programs etc; I knew that Spanish it would help my Real Estate business in Los Angeles. The classes ended up being much more than that, after about 20 hours of private tutoring I can communicate with a whole new clientele and even make some new friends. I highly recommend Strommen Tutoring if you are looking for a different approach to Spanish classes in Los Angeles... or Italian classes, German classes, and French classes too for that matter.

Strommen Tutoring is the best language tutoring company in town, and maybe anywhere! Each class is designed for the student which couldn't be better - so you don't ever feel like you're moving too slow or too fast. In addition to learning German and Italian, and the many other languages they offer, the dialect coaching for actors and singers is so precise. It helped me tremendously with a huge role - and helped me to make it stellar. It's a pleasure to learn here and it's really wonderful to know that such a unique, professional, caring and fun organization is out there. They've also done some translations for me in German, Spanish, Italian and French and I couldn't be happier!

I can't believe how incredible these tutors are. I am pretty slow and a little ADD and they stuck with me through all my lallygagging. They are patient and made sure I understood and could speak every word before we moved onto the next. I worked with Mayra but Garrett and the rest of the crew are absolutely amazing. My Spanish experience (in Spain) couldn't have been better thanks to Strommen Tutoring!!

I've been taking German through Strommen and "liebe" it. The only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is that this is my first time taking language from a tutor rather than a language course, so can't compare to other tutoring companies. What I love about Strommen is the convenience. My tutor (the super fun & smart Lon Haber) comes over to my place for my lessons, but he'll meet me wherever is convenient for us both. He has great resources and suggestions for me to practice on my own. Lon makes German so much fun and relate-able that I feel I'm learning faster than I would in a traditional class.

A friend of mine recommended Strommen Tutoring because she is currently taking Private Mandarin Chinese classes with them and loving them. I am actually taking GMAT test prep classes as I am applying to business school. They actually have a really good test focus as well, I know that my teacher does SAT, ISEE, LSAT and a bunch of other tests. The price is very reasonable and the classes are the right mix of conventional study with some new and fresh approaches. I cant really speak for the language classes although, as I said, my friend really likes her Mandarin teacher.

Very good French lessons from Guylaine, who is patient and personable.
I enjoy chatting in French and not just sitting there with my head stuck in a grammar book. I appreciate the emphasis on pronunciation and learning not only formal French, but a good bit of slang, too.
Very very reasonably priced, too.
I wish they offered small classes as I miss the social aspect of studying with a group and I would prefer ONE book rather than three. Don't let that scare you; two are paperback workbooks, cheap, and one is a hardcover which can be found used on Amazon.Comment from Garrettstrommen S. of Strommen Tutoring 3/19/2010
