My slice of buffalo chicken pizza, given the hour, was the best thing I ate during this most recent NY trip. Is that wrong?
I only regret that I took my first bite once we were already in a cab and a second slice was an impossibility. -

2 slices & a soda = $5
Lots of large windows to people watch...and in the summer, they open them up so you can drunk yell at the fuglies that are walking on St. Mark's.
Clean, organized kitchen and the bathroom downstairs was also clean.
3 stars for the food and the spot...
...2 middle fingers for Yelp removing my previous legit review. -
Review from Evan R.
When Ugly Kitchen stopped having a kitchen, I desperately needed food. This was the closest option.
This small pizza joint was packed at 1 AM, but the line moved quickly. They had about 8 different types of pizza ready-made, which was pretty good for a late-night spot. The buffalo chicken slice was solid and probably saved my life.
Everyone working here was Hispanic, so I ordered in Spanish. After a 3 minute conversation, the guy asked me in English if I was Italian. Come for the pizza, stay for the ethnic astuteness.Listed in: LES bein'

For cheesy tasty NY pizza this is the place! As much as I love $1 pizza, this is worth the extra money.
crisp crust, loads of cheese (and lot's of oil- forget your diet, that's where the flavor's at!) and the sauce is flavorful. full 5 stars -

Nothing out of the ordinary. Crust is good, toppings lack a bit in flavor.
Have repeated because of the convenience factor. Staff is friendly.
They remodeled and the new space is much nicer. -

Loved this place. I tried a slice at the other 4-5 pizza places nearby but this place had it just right. I don't get involved in NY vs Chicago pizza thing. Good is good and this place is worth every penny.

You should only eat this slice if you're walking down 1st Ave or St. Mark's drunk as a skunk. Or if you've just played a hockey game in Tompkins Sq. Park and need something, anything, fast.
You should NOT order a large sausage and mushroom pizza to a nearby bar. Maybe it has "thin crust" but weighted down by the sheer volume of cheese and bland toppings and it becomes flimsy and soggy. Also, because of the amount of toppings you'd be hard-pressed to eat more than one slice, which I guess is good, but what are you going to do with the other 6 or 7 slices?
(I guess you could give them away to make friends... but giving this slice away would be like making enemies. Just sayin'.) -
Review from Kyle W.
Overall a decent slice of pizza.
Had a slice of pepperoni/mushroom and cheese.
Like most people, I'm not big on the crusts of pizza, but the crusts on these slices were actually really good. The crust was soft/doughy enough for me to eat. The actual dough part for the base of the pizza though was slightly too crunchy for my tastes.
Another weak part of the pizza was the tomato sauce. It was a little bland and did not have a zesty taste to it at all. There also wasn't enough of it on the slice.
Cheese on the other hand was the perfect amount and was probably the highlight of the pizza. With its location on St Marks, it's probably a better place for post drinking eating than actual food destination.Listed in: Roll out of bed and into my…

Super nice management, freshly made margherita pizza with tasty ingredients. The space is attractive and allows for a nice cross breeze. Nothing to go crazy about, but a solid option for East Village pizza

Not sure why but i don't remember eating here last night too but guess 20 Guinness would do that to someone hehe. The pizza here was ok, nothing to jump out of the bridge for but I don't mind coming back. These drinking tour we have is alway fun with why don't i ever remember what happen or what I ate?? hehe

Whenever there's Stromboli pizza around, it goes fast. This is some good New York style pizza. It's fairly basic, but it'll keep making you come back for more.
Try sprinkling some of the basil or oregano on top. -

We were drunk and hungry and there it was like a beacon in the night...Stromboli Pizza on the corner lookin good!
They had a large selection for that time of night. We each got a slice and it was really good! -

This place is at the corner of my bff's apartment & they go all the time and love it. It was 3am, we'd been drinking since brunch, and I needed food before we went to bed. So we immediately bee-lined Stromboli's. OMG this was such a fabulous decision. We got a cheese, hawaiian, and pepperoni and all three were almost finished being eaten by the time we got home.
The inside of the restaurant is packed at any given time. There are bar stools set up around high tables and other regular tables along the windows. -

Got delivery from here late last night after discovering that most other pizza joints were either closed or had run out of most of the pizzas. How can you run out of multiple flavors on a Saturday night?? We tried to order half Grandma (which looks amazing on the menu - garlic, oil, basil, artichoke) and half Stromboli special but he said we couldn't because Grandma was thick crust and Stromboli was thin!! The Stromboli was pretty good...literally just fresh tomatoes and multiple kinds of meat, and a lot of it. The small was surprisingly large and perfect for 2 people...but was a bit pricey at $20.
There's got to be something better around here. -

We were tired and starving. We had passed 2-3 pizza places already on our way home in the East Villiage, and this was our last option.
Crispy thin crust, fresh gooey salty mozzarella, basil, and soft sweet plum tomatoes. We each had one slice and couldn't say no to a second. Didn't feel a single bit of remorse. In fact, we wanted to order an entire pizza and take it upstairs to eat all night. If pizza was heroin, this would have gotten me so very high. -

I like it here. Sauce is sweeter but that's how I like it. Yummy! I think the topping are fresh, and for $3 slice, and perfect location for night owls. Cruising up and down the block and after having so so many Guinness, this is quite tasty for a meal.

It's 2:30AM on a Thursday night and Rae Rae asks the pizza guy with a complete seriousness.
Pizza Guy: Ladies, what can I get you?
Rae Rae: Can we get a deal?
Pizza Guy: No.
Rae Rae: 2 for $1?
Pizza Guy: No.
Rae Rae: How much?
Pizza Guy: $2.75
Rae Rae: What! That is 25 cents more than a falafel. Preeti, let's go.
Pizza Guy stares blankly.
Rae Rae storms out of scene.

This pizza is great when you are wasted, for the following reasons:
1) it's open late
2) it's located on the way to the train when you are coming back from the east village bars
3) when you're wasted anything tastes great
This pizza is too cheesy, greasy and chewy. Someone mentioned it here before, if you want a good slice, take the train to Brooklyn to Di Fara or, better, take a walk to 14th and 1st ave, and try Vinny Vincenz. It's open till 3 or 4 on weekends. That's what I call a good slice. Stromboli certainly doesn't come close.Listed in: Slices, Pies and Everything…

Review from F G.
Los Angeles, CA
I remember when I used to live in NY, Stromboli was just the occasional slice, and in Pizza Capitol USA, not that memorable. On my last day in NY, I realized that, horrors, instead of trying several pizza joints while in town as I had originally planned, it looked like I was not going to even get one.
I had come to eat lunch at an old haunt on St Mark's Place, only to discover, like a lot of things in NY, it was no longer there. As I was debating where to go, Stromboli popped to mind, so I headed East another block. It was particularly cold that day, and a slice would do just the trick, some necesary buffering for my endless march on these vibrant streets I can't get enough of. So in I went and ordered the usual, the only slice I generally eat, a margarita. It's the simplest, and also the one that you can't disguise: it reveals the pizza, good or bad.
Thin, crisp, with a good balance of cheese and sauce, it looked decent. I took a bite, and it was good, but slightly bland, lacking a little bit of a kick. I added some oregano and a bit of crushed red pepper and bingo. I had my NY pizza fix, and reflected that here you can pretty much get a slice anywhere and it will beat an LA pie by a mile. There just is no comparison, or argument. While my initial recollection of Stromboli was perhaps accurate for a NY denizen, I would be overjoyed if something like this opened in LA.
As I walked back up St. Mark's, out of the corner of my eye, I saw her- Chloe Sevigny, in a cute little wool cap, pulled down to her eyebrows, just another NY'er, going about her day. But you can't hide those baby blues, gorgeous!
I kept going, Stromboli's slice still filling my tastebuds, Chloe's cute little jacket fading in the distance. I love New York.

What happened to my love?! I was back at Stromboli's for my standard NY pizza fix a few months ago when I noticed something strange. Yes, my slice was nice and crispy and yes the sauce and cheese seemed to taste great but something was seriously off.
Then I realized that the dough tasted like cardboard. I couldn't even bring myself to finish the slice, which is the first time that's ever happened here. I decided to ignore this one-time occurrence though, in the hopes that it was just an off-day but about a month ago, I was back and it was...the same.
I want Stromboli's to be the best pizza in NY as I've been touting it as such for YEARS. But I can't lie any more as something has changed.
Sorry, Stromboli's, but you've lost your biggest fan.Listed in: NY Favorites

Review from Jake E.
New York, NY
I grew up in this neighborhood. I remember when they opened.
Back then Stromboli's was always known as one of the worst slices in the neighborhood. The secret of their success? Location location location. Better pizza joints have come & gone but Stromboli's lives on.
I used to hate their 'too sweet' sauce but eventually learned to tolerate it by adding tons of garlic, oregano & crushed red pepper.
I'm amazed this place is still here. -

No public bathroom is what they say. But if you just barrel through that little door in the back & head downstairs, they won't stop you. They won't even show any sign that they notice.
The pizza's kind of smashed. I know New York style means flat, but this is somehow a little more flat. It's not about the quality, though, it's about the convenience, and this place is so convenient, it has a window that opens out onto the avenue. You barely need to slow down.Listed in: Informal Food

The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because since DC shoe company bought them they haven't been quite as good. Oh and the bathroom is disgusting.
But....the pizza is phenomenal and they make it late into the night. The margarita pizza is by far the best and the staff is really nice. Ah I miss living right next to this place. -

I have found no better cheap, quick, tasty cheese slice in the city. They are open crazy late and the slices are generous.
Fantastic after a night on St. Marks. -

meh...nothing out of the ordinary...the crust was pretty decent (thin, crispy)...but sadly, the sausage had no flavor.
$2.75 for a regular slice, $3.75 for a "special" i.e., not regular slice. -
Review from Zack S.

What sets this slice of New York-style pizza apart from many of the other slices in the city is the crispyness. This pizza is thinner and crispier than any other I have found here. To me, this is a good thing. If you prefer your pizza doughy, fluffy, and generally bad, that's your prerogative. Go to Pizzeria Uno and languish with the rest of the tasteless individuals who frequent chain pizza joints.
The other cool thing about this place is that the guys working there are very Italian. Sometimes, I think this is an act because they only speak in Italian when there are females in the restaurant. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they were trying to hit on said females. They clearly aren't attracted to me. -

TOMATO PIE !!!
my favorite component to a great slice is the sauce and the tomato pie at stromboli has the best i've had in the city.
thanks for getting me by those late nights at the lab and of course those late nights after the parties. -

Cheese or Margarita? That should be your only thought when heading to Stromboli Pizza.
The other slices, especially the square Sicilian style are also good, but if you want the hot, crispy, cheesy goodness that is Stromboli stick with the basics and you will not be disappointed
I end up more often then I should because of it's proximity to my apartment, but even if it were farther away I would make the trek. Stop by, check it out, you will love it :) -

Nice flaky thin-crust......but absolutely no flavor! Its tasteless like tomatoes with no color, cheese with no fragrance, crisp with no crunch.
I now see why people were waiting in the rain for Artichoke down the block -

I live in SF but my brother lives a few blocks from Stromboli, and swears by it. I had a chance to try it this weekend.
I really liked it. I added oregano, and it was very good. Cheese and crust are definitely the highlights, sauce not so much - basically one star off for 2 reasons: sauce, and it took too long the one time I was there. But I'm a fan, for sure. -

Not first or second or third or fourth choice of pizza, but it is open pretty late and when John Jameson is rumbling in my tummy it does the job.
I do feel worried sometimes that the pizza is too old, but then again I drink and I smoke so pizza can do me no harm, I hope.
Pretty thin, super crunchy crust after they reheat it and cheap. Of course i will be back. -

I'm about to go on a late night pizza place review binge.
Stromboli's goes first. This was the best local pizza place within a two block radius of my old apartment (there were no fewer than 7 choices within 2 blocks of 2nd ave / 9th street).
While other places just throw grab bag ingredients on cheese pizza slices to offer up different options, Stromboli's actually builds unique pies from the bottom up (i.e. so a chicken/onion/tomato slice doesn't have the same cheese/sauce distribution as a cheese slice would).
Barbecue Chicken is their best, consequently it's sold out half the time. Get it if it's there.
They've got some sort of picture with pretty girls thing going on, but I'm not entirely sure if it has any purpose. If it means pretty girls get free pizza for a picture, more power to them. -

Some things in life are proof that there is a god and he/she loves us. Gladys Knight for one. Threesomes are another. Stromboli makes the cut.
Every time I meet foreigners (Brits in particular) I take the to Stromboli because you've never really had pizza until you've had Stromboli. Do not get it twisted, son. This is the best pizza on the planet. If you live here and know someone who hasn't had Stomboli take them there today. Make the world a better place. Spread the faith. -

What I love about New York is that there are probably even more pizza joints that Starbucks, and that's a good thing.
After a night of inebriation in the EV, this place was just what popped up in my line of sight. Nothing fancy, just an honest slice of pepperoni and mushroom, and a nice balance of cheese and sauce. And the crust, just right.
I guess I'd give this place 3.5 or even 4 stars, but would have to really try it out again when my memory wasn't as foggy. -

Best pizza I've had in as long as I can remember.
Perhaps that had something to do with the drinks I had before, or the fact that I was always there in the middle of the night. Regardless, I ate here four times in 10 days.
The peperoni with dollops of ricotta was my jam.
