Stopped at String's for dinner on the way up to  South Lake Tahoe Friday night. Just a 2 minute detour off Highway 50. We were trying to hit up a quick bite to eat at Quiznos but Quiznos was closed so we just went next door to String's. The food was below average. I got the Tortellini Alla Panna (meat tortellini with cream, garlic, mushrooms, Italian cheeses, smoked ham and Marsala wine). The sauce was tasteless and I ended up having to add about a gallon of parmesan cheese. I really wish we had held out for the Togo's a couple blocks away.

This place is good for decent food when you're so effing hungry and tired, you just can't think straight.  I stopped here with my boyfriend's family, after we had had a loooooooooong day.  We had a group of 7 plus an infant.  We waited about 20 minutes to be seated, and I'm sure by the time we were seated we were quite the sight.

When we were seated they took drink orders right away.  I ordered a sierra Nevada and a glass of water.  I got my beer, but no water... I had to ask for it a few more times before I got it.

For having to wait so long (what I assume was)  a manager brought us out some oil and vinegar with garlic to dip our bread in... but it was quite a while before we got our bread, which again we had to ask for.

The waitress finally took our order and brought our food fairly quickly.  I had the pepperoni calzone... it was good, but it was really like slices of pepperoni and a string cheese wrapped in calzone crust.  Not what I was expecting, but still good.

Now, I don't think i know the real quality of the food, since we sat so long, food deprived.  Because, by the time my food was set in front of me, I could have eaten the table.

Good prices for decent quality food.  Another one of those *family* places...it can be depressing if you run into kids from your senior class still waiting tables...BUT, that doesn't diminish the value and tastiness of the food.
