I am a big fan of family-style country buffets, and for the price, this one didn't disappoint. My stomach had 3 meals of BBQ the day prior, so I was hoping that this wasn't all bacon and sausage for breakfast. And pleased I was. I definitely needed a meal that didn't consist of pure meat with a side of meat with meat for dessert. $7 is a great deal here, for all the fresh fruit offered.
Surprisingly, all the breakfast meats tasted normal. Breakfast sausage had that nice zip, link sausage wasn't too fatty, bacon was nearly perfect, and the ham was a good country ham. Just keep in mind, you can't expect amazing quality meat! The cheese omelet was tasty also.
But the major surprises here were the fresh pineapple, fresh apples, fresh grapes, and fresh cantaloupe. Some high class brunches don't even offer all these fruits fresh and whole cut. A great way to start the morning healthy.
A great buffet all in all, good atmosphere, and definitely a place to get some pre or post church food. Somewhat scenic drive and out of the way.
For the life of me, I just don't understand why this place stays open. None of the food here is good. Not even remotely good. I guess if you grew up on tasteless southern-style food, then this must be the place to eat.
The people here are super-friendly, and service is definitely great, but at the end of the day, the food has to have some sort of flavor to keep me coming back. This just isn't the place for me, I guess.
Once upon a time, before all the suburban sprawl in the area, I'm sure Strack's was the only place close by to have a meal. And although the selection of restaurants in the immediate vicinity is sparse, there are places that are better close by.

It's always a refreshing experience to walk into a restaurant who's decor was clearly not decided upon by committee. The menu is more of a suggestion than the rule and the waitstaff regularly take orders for "the usual" without blinking an eye.
For lunch or dinner on any given day you could have among many things chicken fried steak, baked chicken, tuna salad or a catfish fillet. Your tea will be served to you in a glass jar and, whatever you order, it will probably be much more than you can eat in one sitting.
But where Stracks' really shines is their breakfast. The biscuits are hearty, eggs plentiful and gravy rich. Wake your friends and come early. As you drink your coffee, participate in what is quickly becoming a lost art in the urbanization of America: the morning gabfest.
Sit amongst the young and old and discuss whatever is on your mind: local politics, High School sports, the weather. The topic doesn't matter, it's a means to the true purpose: community. Through laughter, arguments and simply just listening, these people haven't forgotten the elemental value of simply being in community with others. No need for any other agenda except as a reward for getting out of bed.
It wasn't too long ago you had to head towards town from here just to reach what would be considered the "outskirts." With new homes, shopping strips and retail banks popping up nearly overnight all around, Strack Farms remains stoic and dedicated to good food and great community.

This is the first barbeque restaurant I ever went to, back when I was about 3 years old. It's still my favorite. I had my wedding rehearsal dinner here, and our out of town guests still talk about it to this day (4 years later).
The atmosphere hasn't changed even though the surrounding area has shifted from rural to suburban over the past 25 or so years. I wish the cows still roamed in field right on the premises! I used to sit by the window and watch them as I ate their family members. The interior of the restaurant feels like a cozy farmhouse or lodge: dark wood, some stained glass, red and white checkered tablecloths, servers wearing bandanas. It's exactly what you'd expect a Texas BBQ joint to look like.
The vegetables are always good, especially the green beans, and I believe many are locally grown. The chopped beef sandwich is a favorite of mine, but I really like the BBQ loaded baked potato, too. The chicken fried steak is the best around---I don't care what Goodson's in Tomball claims. It's huge, the breading stays on, and the gravy is seasoned just right. That giant slice of thick Texas Toast always hits the spot, too.
If you have room, the peach cobbler is great. I can hardly ever make it that far unless I split an entree.
They serve breakfast, too, but the closest I've come is brunch on Sunday (served till 3pm). My family went to Stracks after church about once a month throughout my childhood. It's a gastronomical feast--and a great place for families to make memories. My most recent visit didn't prove as excellent as I'd hoped. The quantity was still there, but the quality was a bit off. Hopefully it was just as off day.
