This review is for their lunch,

Stopped in last Friday and the place was pretty busy.  We decided to sit outside so we could people watch.  Our server was quick and attentive, even though we weren't sitting in her view.

The bf went with the traditional Irish breakfast.  He's kind of a fanatic about Irish breakfasts, so if he says its legit, it is.  I had a bite of the ham, and it was TASTY!  I chose to go with their quesedilla made with brie cheese which is a bit of a twist .  The quesedilla was great, as expected.  Also a plus, prices were very inexpensive - esp for the downtown area.

Since I had to go back to work, I didn't enjoy an adult beverage, but I will definitely be coming back to check out their happy hour.

If you like hockey, you'll like this place. Good beer, fresh pub food, some irish fare, cool workers, and 5 tvs to catch whichever game you want to catch. It's close to quite a few parking garages and extremely close to a trolley stop, so if you're doing an extended evening of hockey and brews you wont be too far away from anything here.

My personal suggestion if you come here for the happy hour is the calamari. It's fresh, the tomato sauce is a little spicy but not overpowering, and the curry ketchup is simply amazing. As I've come to find it from another person that frequents there was that the ketchup was something that the chef came up with so kudos to your ingenuity. Aside from that, I've tried the fish n chips, the tacos for happy hour, the sliders, and the chicken tenders; mostly happy hour since that seems to fall in line with game time for hockey. They're decent in my opinion. I do need to try more of the irish entrees to get a better feel of the menu though.

If you're one that is more privy to upscale restaurants/bars/etc, this isn't the place for you. Not that you shouldn't try out the place anyway and not that it doesn't have it's own unique culture in and of itself, but it's a pub. A pub with hockey. Any argument that I could make would be inconsequential if you're prematurely biased towards that  kind of atmosphere. Just go and have fun with the rest of us fans and I guarantee you'll have a great time.

Awesome. Just awesome. And Dave is awesome, too.

I don't like bars but I really, really like how Stout feels. I only wish this place was where I lived.

Be sure to look for the Canucks thing on the wall.

    Thanks again, Stout.

Very cool vibe and a very cool location!  The Blue and Orange Line trolleys stop at 5th Avenue and you can hop off and walk right around the corner.  Very convenient.  The place is not in the heart of the Gaslamp, which is cool because it is a bit more quiet on a Friday night and is totally my kind of scene.

I love the upper area with its own bar, but be careful of the stairs!  If you are standing at the bar, do not step backward or you can go tumbling down.

I did not sample the food since I was here for a couple of drinks only, but I was a tad disappointed to find that this place does not brew its own beer.  I had a Guinness, which was tasty, but I was hoping for some home-brewed goodness.

All in all, I would come back!

Finding a place that has NHL Centre Ice and shows all the hockey games on TV is harder than nailing Jell-o to a tree here in San Diego. This is purely a Charger and Padre town where football and baseball rule and hockey takes a high stick to the face.
Luckily a Canadian took charge of things and Stout is the place for all things hockey.....including their own patron-made Stanley Cup.
Yup, this place is down with the NHL. And since my made in Detroit husband needs to see all 82 of his beloved Redwings games, Stout has quickly become our 2nd home during hockey season.
And in addition to serving POUTINE (Quebec's delicious creation of fries smothered in cheese curds and gravy), Danny the mixologist behind the bar has created shots for several NHL teams. So, come on down and meet the friendliest group of people this side of the Canadian border and enjoy a real brew and view.

I love their rueben sandwich!! Their chicken wings and pasta are also amazing. I love bree cheese but I gotta say their chicken bree cheese is pretty disappointing. the chicken is dry and rough, making it pretty hard to consume. I want to try their stout burger and guinness stew next time. A nice relaxing place to eat. It's a plus if you like hockey.

It was getting close to the end of my friend's bachelor party... after a day of indoor rock climbing, laser tag, gaming at Dave & Buster's, and a surprise stop at the Mission Valley Hooters, we had one more stop left to make.  On the way there, we decided to stop by Stout to get a few more drinks.

If Shakespeare's shows what a British pub is like (for the most part), then Stout would be the Irish equivalent.  I liked the atmosphere it gave off - dark wood bar and tables, open spaces at 10 pm on a Saturday night, and no pretentiousness here.  I did notice the Canadian touches in the place - apparently, it's owned by a couple of Canadian gents.  Too bad we had dinner a few hours prior, otherwise I would have been all over the poutine.

Our drinks were up to spec; to celebrate the bachelor, we all did Irish Car Bombs (first time I had one!) and Alabama Slammers.  Additionally, the bachelor and his best bud had Washington Apples (at the server's recommendation) and shots of Patron... yep, they were nice and toasty by the time we left for Haji Baba.

Nothing bad to say, other than our server was kinda cute (if not a bit surly... though I noticed she warmed up to the regulars).  I'll give Stout another shot next time I'm at Downtown at night.

Nice place with fun seating upstairs and very friendly, casual wait staff. Just went for drinks. Beers are reasonable but cocktails were kind of a stingy pour for the price. I'm told this depends on the bartender, though. Good music selection and it was a quiet night, being the night after Thanksgiving. A good cross between Irish and American without being kitchy.

After an Aquabats show that ended waaaaay to early (10:17pm) a friend and I dropped in to grab a few beers.

Upon entering the lights were dim, there were a fair amount of free tables and well as tables surrounded by smiling friends with pints of beers in their hands. The music wasn't too loud... there were flatscreen TV's showing sports...total dude hangout...

We stayed at the bar and ordered our beers... we got two pints for $10...not bad for downtown....and did I mention they have Boddington's on draft....duuuuh!

my friend also informed me that his friend has a huge crush on the bartender...

I can see why... he looks like Josh Harnett's younger brother...

I hear that this place is run by some Canadian gents... I noticed that they had poutine on their menu but I will have to come back with my girlfriend from Ottawa who can put this to the test!!

Stout I will be back!! Get your curds ready!

A-OK.....BUT MORE LIKE EH-OK.....This bar is a Canadian hangout .......so you'll feel extra safe when you are here, since Canada is the safest place on earth.....just ask a Canadian. And no country has a better or more well organized and moral government than Canada, nobody. ( If you haven't figured it out yet, I'm being extremely sarcastic, get ready this is a good one)

I mean....let's face facts EH.... nobody has it figured out like Canada and Canadians, the ones you meet IN THE USA, are here because their Canadian currency is stronger and they.....wait never-mind....no it's not, the Canadian dollar is actually still weaker.....it did go higher once awhile back, and Canadians got really excited for the entire 39 seconds for which it was higher. That's a whole other story.

It's quiet and very much like a Canadian at the bar... its all about being polite here EH, just like they are in Canada. And everybody respects each others feelings here, that's what Canadians do, because it's all about Canada here EH.

It's mello in this public house and they usually are showing hockey...because Canadians love hockey, well....allow me correct myself.... hockey was invented and perfected in Canada by Canadians. If you like this bar, I suggest you would love Canada, but it's much, much, much, more smokey in the bars in Canada, Canadians smoke a lot, even though it's bad for the environment and Canada.

Speaking of Canada, they have a lot of Canadian things here, like some  Canadian beers, they even have Canadian dishes, Canadian flags, Canadian sayings, pictures and much, much, more eh!

I really hope you like this review and how many times I used the word Canada, it's repulsive huh? Well it's actually exactly what it's like having to speak with EVERY Canadian I've ever met while traveling to over 30 countries, if you think we stick out abroad or talk about the US....it's not even close...if it's not the constant use of the word "Canada" or mullet that gives them away, it will for sure be the Candian maple leaf that is sewn anywhere and everywhere on their belongings, and always on their backpacks, always. Go to this bar if you want to live the Canadian dream....smoke an entire pack of cigarettes and drink some Canadian beers, eat French fries with gravy all over them, that's Canadian too.

Just discovered Stout - don't know how I missed it before, but glad I have found it. It is an Irish Pub which seems obsessed with Canadian hockey (not my thing, but I still like the place).  Good atmosphere - dark wood bar, tables, etc - just like an Irish pub should be.

Good happy hour 4 to 8 daily and all day on weekends - good food and menu. Check out the daily specials.

Bartendar (sorry I have forgotten his name already) - was friendly and offered good service.

Nothing really bad to say about this place other than they need a few more TVs on the walls so the viewing is good from every seat.  Would be a good place to watch NFL if they are going to get the NFL package this year.

Who would have thought there is a Vancouver Canucks bar in a city that doesn't care for hockey? This is the place to watch the NHL playoff! There is a $3 special on Canadian beers and half off appetizer today, which was an awesome way to spend your Sunday afternoon.  They even have Fin Du Mond in bottle.

I would give it a 5 stars if the poutine was good. They either ran out of cheese curd or the Canadian chef is off today; they uses cheddar instead and it's pretty gross.  I also had the chicken finger and that was nice and crispy.

OMG, it was my first visit there on 10/28 before going to Copley Hall. The food is terrible!!!  How can they screw up fish and chips?  Horrible. The waitress, Jenna was great but drinks were so so and food really, really bad. People obviously don't go there for the food. Also, the place has a nasty smell when you walk in the front door, which was an omen I should have considered. The place smelled like cigarette smoke. Stay away!

stout's has hockey fans in mind. which is awesome! hockey on every tv in the place. well, they had one small screen in the corner that was playng baseball of some sh*t. it was wonderful to not be the crazy hockey fan in the sports bar in the corner trying to watch your game.

we came on a friday night to catch the sharks game (his team) and the pens game (my team). pens were on up the loft and sharks were down by the door. while i was sitting up in the loft the girl walking around still came up and made sure i didnt need anything. (awesome) we ordered food.... which is the only reason i cane give this place five stars. the food is not good. its not even good in imaginary land. my boyfriend said the sliders were "eh" and "dry and bland". the wrap i had was also dry and rather bland. it could use a nice marinate or spice.... or something. it was basically a dry salad in a tortilla. the beer selection, however, is pretty good.

the bar tenders deserve their own rating. the guy we had was awesome. kicked out the jackass who needed to leave and was bothering people and was just super warm and friendly.

we will be back, but we wont be eating the food.

also, you should know. this is a canucks bar.

I was not a huge fan of Stout. They didn't have many taps and I was somewhat disappointed in the beer selection. It's your typical Irish pub, but since I'm from Boston maybe I'm an irish pub snob? Late night on a thursday also attracted a bunch of drunk frat boys that invaded my fun girls night and brought things downhill quickly, so we didn't end up staying long.

The bartender was very friendly and service was decent.

As a lonely hockey fan in San Diego, it is difficult to go to 99.999% of the bars and restaurants here to watch games. Most places would rather put on women's billiards than show a live hockey game. Thanks to the fine folks on Yelp Talk, I decided to check out Stout a couple of times the last week or so to see if I can find a cadre of loud, obnoxious puckheads like myself slamming back some Molson. I must report that we have found the motherload.

Located on 6th and B St, it is in the "quiet" part of downtown with plenty of street parking a block or two away on most nights. I have a feeling I came during the holiday week so most of the regulars are out of town because not once was it totally packed. Even for the Winter Classic, the place was only about 80% full with tables ready for immediate sitdown. Happy hour is daily, even on weekends, with $3 Canadian or domestic bottles. After about 5 or 6 Molsons, I had a sudden urge to go ice fishing and almost cried when the poor waitress informed me they didn't carry poutine.

The food is where this place falls short of fivestarness. My buddies ordered a burger and club sandwich, and I got the fish and chips on the recommendation from the gentle waitress. I must say that the club looked and tasted dryer than old cardboard and the burger was pretty generic fare. The fish and chips was shockingly poor for a half Irish-owned establishment. The fish was oily and had way too much batter, and the fries were not seasoned at all. Since this was recommended over the shepherd's pie, I have a feeling I won't be coming back here for the food.

I really wanted this place to kick ass in all departments, but in the end, it does more good than bad, which is the reason why I still recommend it. If I lived nearer, I would probably become a regular, and screaming for my LA Kings most nights with these people. It's a good place to grab a drink with hockey fans and nice people. I also love the fact they pour a pint of Guinness the right way, with a three leaf clover on the head.

    Did somebody say Poutine?

Fries, gravy, and melted cheese curd, sound gross?

    Um no way.

Lisa Ceeeeeee first invited me here to imbibe on Canada day.

I like this place for a downtown joint when Kim and I want to either take the motorbike, or check out Canada Day (July 1st). Or both! They actually carry Canadian Brewskies (yeah I just said that).

You may hear patrons yelling "Out and about!" or "Hollllly crow!" or they might be watching hockey. I wish this was closer to home and had easier parking but those are the only minuses.

It's supposed to be an Irish Pub and it is, but I like to think of it as Canadian Pub as well, and in Canada we do have a lot of Irish pubs with things like Tiperary Potroast Stew. YUM.

This is a perfect shot of what it's like in there: http://www.flickr.com/...

Went here for breakfast last weekend. The bloody Mary's were C-, but the breakfast we had was to die for.

My bro & hubby had the corned-beef hash and eggs OMG the best I think I ever had and the portion was huge.

I had the Irish breakfast which was good, not as good as the hash. it was very large with 3 different sausages, ham and white pudding. Potatoes, beans and Irish soda bread.

The also brought us some of the Irish yeast rolls right out of the oven, OMG I could have just eaten those with butter and coffee.

The Mimosa's are to die for and only 5.00. This is a definite breakfast stop for us next time we're in SD.

The service was excellent, we were the first customers and the only ones except for a guy at the bar. Mind you it was only 10:00am.

An unexpected gem in downtown San Diego.

We stumbled upon this place a couple blocks from our hotel.  The atmosphere is nice and laid back, the outdoor tables are delightful, and the bartenders are friendly but discreet,  Nice cold beer and a fine selection of Irish whiskeys I rarely see in other pubs.

The bartender we had is a Canucks fan.  We're Sharks fans, so we had some great conversations about hockey.  He used to live in New York so he has an informed perspective on Eastern vs Western conference, and Canadian vs American hockey.

The meals are very generously portioned, so we've been ordering one item to share.  The first day we had shepherd's pie - made with lamb and beef and topped with smashed potatoes - it was even better than my own.  The second day, we had the Guinness stew.  It was incredibly tasty with tender chunks of beef, potatoes, carrots, and small bits of celery that set off the flavor of the sauce wonderfully.

I'm looking forward to tomorrow, we plan to order the Irish breakfast!

I've been here a few different times over the last couple of years so it's probably time to sit down and give it a review.

First of all, this place is much better than Café Cerise which inhabited this spot previously. I worked across the street from Stout when it first opened so I had the chance to have lunch, dinner, and happy hour here on a few occasions. I REALLY liked the look and feel of the place when it was initially opened. It was very clean, uncluttered, and it didn't have much of a theme yet. Place was sharp. Food and service was quite good back in the day.

Was just here for dinner again last night. Looks like it has evolved into a sports bar 'lite':  they had football banners hanging from the banister and hockey jerseys hanging from the ceiling.  Clearly they felt the need to evolve into something that would bring in the patrons and you can't fault them for that. I preferred the older vibe, but that's just me.

Food was quite good.  I rarely order pork chops in restaurants as I've had too many that were dry and tasteless. Stout gave me faith that people can make good pork chops. Nice job. Their stew was also quite good. The shepherd's pie on the other hand was a bit bland and needed a good hit of salt. In total, 4 stars.

Not sure what the issue was, but the food took forever to reach our table after we ordered. We placed our order at about 6:30 and we received it at about 7:10. The place wasn't busy so a 40 minute ticket time seemed unreasonable.  To make matters worse, our server was completely unenthused to be there. It happens I guess. After waiting 30 minutes for our food, I got up from our table and hunted down our server to ask about the delay (we were going to a concert).  Our server gave us the generic and snarky "it's coming" without even inquiring. Of course it's coming; that doesn't tell us anything.  Are we looking at another 5 minutes? another 30?  It made matters worse when she dropped some more attitude when she finally dropped off our plates. The service and the delay was a bummer saved only by the good food.

    Food = 4 stars... Service / kitchen time = 2 stars... Total = 3 stars

If I lived closer, or came downtown more often, I could easily become a regular, here.  Found the atmosphere warm, inviting, cordial and quite friendly.  The service was prompt and efficient, and the food, while not eyebrow-raising, was very good.  I had the Shepherd's pie, and was very happy with it, they didn't overdo the mashed, and the flavor was quite good.

San Diego hockey fans (yes, all 14 of us), rejoice as there is finally a decent bar to watch a game at, downtown!  I don't know if they have a lot of hockey in Ireland, but the fusion of Ire and ice is pretty seamless here.  While the layout of the joint is a little different, there's plenty of seating and no shortage of TV's.

The happy hour window is nice and long, so if you put in that extra hour at work, you can squeeze out an extra hour of medicating on the other end.  Some good food and drink specials on there, too.  Speaking of food, in my experience, the kitchen here has been solid.  Everything is local/organic and is well put together.  As you might expect, they've got a few Irish offerings on the menu, as well.  Beer selection is equally good, including some suds from our Neighbor to the North and a few from across the pond.

Wait staff is attentive and I've yet to go in and not see one of the owners tending bar.  Stand up guys running a stand up establishment; get in there before the play-offs end.

I have to say: the whole Irish/Hockey bar thing is a strange combo. But I would rather be watching hockey then basketball or baseball so I won't complain.

And just thinking about enjoying a Guinness at Stout is making my mouth water. Its always served at the right temperature and poured with perfection by the fabulous bartenders. This is the best place in SD to get a Guinness.

The wait staff here are the rudest i've seen in SD period. I would never spend my money here ever again there's plenty of higher end spots that leave this place looking like a joke.

When it comes to beer i normally find myself going to bars such as Hamilton's, Livewire, and Tornado.  However, i have found one that makes me nostalgic for their selection.   a few beers here that make it well worth my going.

The first beer i had when i was in the UK was Boddingtons. For the life of me i know a few places that serve it and pour correctly.  Princess Pub, Shakespeare, and The Field.  Every time i drink a Boddingtons, it takes me back to my first beer.  Touches a piece of me deep down.  Tears start to form, and i have a moment with my beer.

Ladies and Gents i have found a new bar with Boddingtons, Murphy's, Guinness, and Smithwicks! *sigh* i just had a moment with those names.  Some of my favorite beers , as i said for nostalgic reasons.  Just found out they do everyday happy hour, and Sunday trivia nights.  Stout also has an intensive menu for your pub grub fix.  Still havent had the food maybe some other time.  I say if your down town and want a chill bar with some decent beer.  Check this place out!

Okay, it's Tuesday night (3-9-210) and I'm having a few Guinny's at the hotels bar when the bartender tells me he's getting ready to close up shop for the night.  Dude, it's only 11:00 pm.  WTF?  He tells me about this place a block from the hotel that offers not only good old Irish beers, but foods from the mother-land to-boot.  He says the name of the place is Stout's.

Since I live by Garth Brooks words "ain't going down till the sun comes up," I leave the hotel to seek out and find this place called Stouts.  After walking an extremely long block, I arrive at Stouts within minutes.  I plant myself at the bar and directly in front of the beer pulls.  The bartender, seeing I'm in dire straights of a beer and conversation comes over and takes my order.  A  Guinness please.  My hero.

About a half hour into my beer, me, the bartender (a tall and skinny lad) and this guy sitting next to me who says he's from Sacramento are deep into conversation, Guinness and Jameson Whiskey when I realize something.   I'm cocked.  Not just buzzed or faded, I'm really F'ed up.

I can't remember the last time I had such a good time sitting at bar with strangers and not paying for a single drink.  Of course, I can't  remember the last time I woke up with a hangover either.  I'm not saying I did have a hangover the next day, I'm saying I don't remember the last time I had one.

Stouts is a class act.  The bar is wholesome, quaint and the service was awesome.  In fact, the service was some of the best I've ever had.

Even though I was a visitor in a strange town, the bartender and the patrons made me feel right at home, like an old friend who belonged there.

Stout rocks. Mark & Dave, the publicans, have really created something wonderful: great pour of Guinness, excellent food with generous portions, a friendly, comfortable atmosphere.

Do yourself a favor and check Stout out!

I can say nothing wrong about this bar. I love this bar, I will go to this bar, at any time any day! Mark & Dave are awesome as people, bar owners and mainly as men that reprezent Ireland. My other homeland.

This was the 2nd joint I took the 21 yr old posse to last night. Mind you I don't do weekdays very well, I have to be up & at em' by 7am at my office, so faded & weekdays is a few & far thing for this grandma. I'm super feelin it today, tore back ain't even the 1/2 of it honey. Last night I high 5'd Mark and told him just how much I love his bar. I was just that happy and wasted!

We've had the bf's bday party there, and a lot of the homies from HOB go there after work, so its a place where everyone knows everyone and is drama free.. that's the big one there, drama free is the place to be for me!!

They have Ah-Mazing food, Irish food and Pub food and sometimes some fancy dinners. They have a great Guinness Stew! Everything is made organic and by local farmers. I'm big on supporting your locals so that's another plus in my book for them.

The bar itself is way rad, quaint and cozy. You walk in and 2 staircases on both sides of the joint lead to the upstairs, where there is anotehr bar, its never used though. And more seating for a dinner party . Downstairs the bar is huge and goes the width of the joint. A little booth that's in one of the front windows, and its nothing fancy pants, but its comfy and relaxed and that's the best.

Drinks are cheap ! They have tons of British , Irish and a few other European beers, ciders, ales and Liquors. There Scotch, whiskey selection is on point. Oh and if your into Hockey, they play every and all hockey game there. Its a big deal in this place!

Oh and by the way they have a great happy hour and specials, and Saturdays is happy hour all day til like 8pm!

Go check it out sometime, its seriously a gem of a bar!

Real Irish Pub, with real Irish people, and the only place downtown for  hockey fans (you should have been here for the US v. Canada Olympic Games).

The people are what keep me going back to Stout.  It's a neighborhood bar, and damn it's fun to live in this neighborhood. (F*^k Local).  The owner's are almost always present and they take real pride in their pub.  It's always clean, always filled with friendly people, and it's the best burger I've had in California since I moved here 4 years ago.

I've eaten at Neighborhood, yes I've had In&Out and Fatburger, and Five Guys, and Fuddruckers, and everywhere else between.... This is truly the best burger in town.  Some people like to criticize bar food... i'm not a yuppie snob expecting my plate to look like something from Joseph Keller's kitchen.

Yeah, so its an Irish pub that sometimes has a DJ for the weekend or an event... I get it, not everybody's scene, but it brings in a crowd... I mean it can't always be a bi-polar collection or drunken writers and raconteurs and assorted professionals, but if you really want to drink at an Irish bar you'll drink during the weekdays... day or night... with real Irishmen, not tourists or taste snobs.

Favorite new bar in San Diego!

This place has style without being pretentious and feels broken in and comfortable without being a dive. In other words, it's the perfect neighborhood bar.

Prices are average, there are no gimmicks needed here. Grab a boddingtons and chat with one of the owners, both are ridiculously charming.

I found Stout because I'm a displaced Chicago hockey fan, and needed to watch the games with other fans that would share my excitement.  Enter Stout Pub!

The place itself is neat- large downstairs and the upstairs "sin bin" is more intimate.  Theres usually just one server working, and I don't know how they do it, but the service is always awesome.  Great draft selection and the menu is pretty good too.  Ive had the calamari (awesome), burger (double awesome), shepherd's pie potato skins (so-so), and ceasar salad (dressing was yucky- stay away! Its an Irish bar anyway, you don't want salad).

Tons of TVs and real fans here.  Fans from all teams are usually there, though it seems to be a Canucks bar from the decor (which is unfortunate- :) just kidding).  No one here is ever rude no matter who you root for!

I wonder what Stout is like outside of hockey season- maybe i'll just have to go back soon to check it out!
