ONO! I get the Rocky Point sub with papaya seed dressing. Yummmmm. Bread is super soft and delicious.
Only reason it didn't get a 5 is because it's a lil pricey. Staff could be a little friendlier too. The first time I went, the lady gave me some attitude as if I was stupid for not knowing how to order. MY BAD. Otherwise, I love Storto'!
Deli-cious!!! Haha I have been told to try this place by two people and i cant believe it took me almost a year to eat here. Very easy to miss, it's across the street from grass skirt grill and strong current!! Keep an eye out for the 'daily specials'. I had the half ali'i and it was MORE than enough for myself and a few of my rugrats.
Outdoor eating only, small porch for seating.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
After reading all the fab reviews, I decided to seek this place out.
I got an Ali'i (pastrami, salami and pepperoni). $5.75 for half a sub, which turned out to be pretty darn big & filling.
The bread was pretty thick, soft and easy to chew. Hooray.
The only thing I did't like is how little meat they give, but the meats combined provided enough flavor so its not lost amongst the veggies and bread. Seriously, give more meat. I am a meat lover and the lack of meat makes me not happy with this place.
If you're gonna put dressing on top, I suggest not saving the sub for later and eating it right away because they put a good amount on, and it soaks the bread & the paper wrapping after awhile.
The girl working was very nice. My total was $6.02 but she just took 2 cents out of the tip jar for me (although I didn't need her to...but she just did it so fast. I guess she was hoping for a dollar tip in exchange?)
The only other subs I can compare this to are Quizno's and Subway, and well, this place does beat them.
I was taking a friend up to the North Shore for some joy therapy and needed to find somewhere we could pick up lunch. I asked a coworker who surfs up thataway if he had any recommendations and without hesitation he blurted out, "Storto's!"
And I have to say it was good advice. The sandwiches are monstrous and a damn good value. The bread is white but has a sweetness to it that is very subtle and goes well with the papaya seed dressing. If you're new (as we were) the ordering process is a little confusing since there are so many options, but you can't go wrong with the basic veggies (lettuce, tomato, sprouts).
We split a "Jocko's," which is turkey, ham, and pastrami. It was killer.
There isn't really much parking to speak of and the outside eating area is very small. When we arrived both were super packed. We did luck out, though, and were able to sit on the lanai to nom our ono sandwiches. The chickens that root around nearby are cheap entertainment; one flew right up onto the ledge next to our table, though.
If you're just going to grab and go then Storto's is awesome. The best news of all is that I hear they are opening up a second location, somewhere on Waialae Ave. For the price and value, I'd definitely drive to Kaimuki for this sandwich and bypass all the Subways in between.
oh man, the bread, the bread, the bread. chewy, sweet, wonderful, it was like a hug from God. I am convinced the man upstairs lives in the North Shore after less than a week there living and loving life.
so important for a good sandwich. positive examples (in SF,CA) include Mr. Pickles & Ike's while very negative examples include Specialty's and Specialty's (really don't care for their sandos).
storto's is on the affordable side for the North Shore, delicious and tasty. a 1/2 sando is more than enough for a meal.
my shuttle driver, who was a doppelganger for Paul Rudd's character in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, recommended the place and I always go w/ the locals for the good eats.
Storto's is the definition of.
Truly one of the best sandwiches in Hawaii! Serious. Thank goodness they have two locations, Haleiwa and in Kaimuki. My favorite is the Waimea (Ham, Turkey, and Salami) with Ranch. Also delicious is their papaya dressing. The bread is sooo soft and the amount of veggies on the sandwich is awesome. Veggies are always so fresh. Alfalfa, lettuce, tomatoes, olives, peppers, mmm! Getting hungry just thinking about it. I usually grab a half sandwich which I can ALMOST devour all of it (rest is given to the fiance), Maui chips, and a drink. Awesome!
1/2 Sunset [Ham, Turkey, Roast Beef]
- / - [No mayo, no mustard]
Pepperjack
No tomato
Light sprouts
Papaya seed [dressing]
$5 footlong, and that's the half. Subway ain't got nothin on these guys.
Combinations of 3 meats are named after local surf spots. You can also make your own or get double meat (I think).
The bread is absolutely divine. Soft, chewy, subtley sweet.
A sandwich comes loaded with lettuce, tomato, onions, and sprouts, all wrapped up in pink butcher paper. Throw in avocado for a buck something. Get the potato salad and a cold Passion Orange and you are set for lunch and half your dinner.
There's almost always a line, but it's well worth the wait. If you can snag a table and don't mind birds at your feet, you can enjoy the view of the two-lane road and the tourists. Ahh, but who's complaining? You're on the North Shore of Hawaii, what's to complain about?
And if you still have room for dessert, go check out the friendly dude over at Flavormania just down the street for some killer ice cream.
Stortos is the BOMB!!! After a day of surfing N. Shore its the one and only place I want to eat. Its always busy but its worth the wait. The bread is made just for them, I tried to ask them if they would franchise but they aren't interested.
Get it with the Papaya Seed dressing, just tell them go light or your sandwich will be swimming in it.
Dang, I am ono for one right now...
Why on earth haven't I reviewed this place yet? I even made a sandwich list without Storto's on it! Somebody smack me!
Anyway, I've been know to drive all the way to Haleiwa just to eat here. It's that good. Some people don't like the bread- they're crazy. I even saw someone open up their sandwich and pull out all the inside of the bread and throw it away. That's just wrong. The slightly sweet, soft bread is what makes the whole damn sandwich. That and the avocados and the papaya seed dressing (although sometimes I get Italian).
Just a note, they sometimes close early if there's no business and they want to go home, but they're usually open til about 5. Oh yeah, and the "half" size sandwich is enough, trust me.
Easy to miss sandwich spot that offers healthy, light, or just really good sandwiches. These are not tiny portions and I don't know how they do it, but it's so light, fluffy, and the next thing you know, you've gobbled everything without feeling like your bathing suit is beyond its stretched capacity.
Don't miss the papaya seed dressing!
Little hole in the wall deli you wouldn't expect much from, but the subs here are amazing. They have a menu, but you also can pick and choose what you want in your sandwich.
Very filling too. If you're ever in the area, you should defnitely give it a go. Head to Matsumoto's after for some heavenly shave ice =)
This place is OK, not great. It's definitely better than Subway (because you can get avocado). One sandwich is big enough to share, so that makes it a good choice if you're on a budget.
Superb deli sandwiches on the North Shore Oahu with surf break names. Fast, friendly, and a good change from the other heavier food available.
Whenever I'm in North Shore, I eat at Storotos. I'm only in North Shore because of Stortos. Sunset with honey mustard and pepper jack cheese, hold the tomatoes. do it
I love this place!! if your looking for a good deli sandwhich, this is the place to go! I am also a bread person, there is something about the bread they use that makes it soooooo good! The bread itself is moist and a little sweet! It's ONO!! I usually get the perry's special. I think it has roast beef and pastrami in it with the works. I like to also get honey mustard in it. oishii! The vegie sandwhich is delicious too. I'm not usually into vegie stuff, but i can eat theirs any time. If you are in Haleiwa, i suggest stopping in for a sandwhich. you won't regret it.
