Reading all the reviews I agree with everyone of them. I like it because you can climb here without any equipment besides your hands and feet. The climb was a right balance of easy enough to have confidence but difficult enough to give me a challenge/scare. The view alone was worth it, it looked like something out of the Flinstones, with boulders on top of boulders. It looked like something out of another time. The view of the valley itself was magnificent, you could see everything from it and really showed why people choose to live in the LA area.
My friend who'd been here a few times told me to be wary of pigeons that nested in the caves and crannies of it, but it's not two legged critters that you need to be worried about. The place is littered with broken glass which made me a little worried since I was wearing my tevas-good for climbing but not for all the beer bottle shards lying around.
I don't mind graffiti so much but what my friend told me was that people come by to brown out the graffiti and what that does is smooths out the rock, aka gets rid of the precious, precious hand and foot holds that should be there.
Stoney point is one of my favorite climbing/hiking spots in LA. It has three basic paths to the top.
1) Standard hiking with a tiny bit of climbing. Really short though maybe fifteen min to top.
2) The bouldering path. You will have to climb and jump to find your way to the top. Can be a little dangerous and not recommended for kids or people who are scared of heights.
3) The sheer cliff face. You will need ropes and gear for this. Experienced climbers only.
The top has an amazing view of the valley, and just getting there is a bit of a accomplishment. There are a number of large rocks that you can climb and are lined with climbers chalk so you can see how people got to the top. There are a number of great little land marks along the way including the "Sex Cave" (a small little cavern with a sand bottom that has probably seen more action than a motel six bedroom).
All in all this is a great place to climb if you are a bit athletic / adventurous. Keep in mind though there are no hand rails and plenty of places to fall. If you are scared of heights stick to the standard path.
The only real downfall (no pun intended) is the amount of graffiti and trash that is around. Plenty of broken bottles can be found all around and no shortage of spray painted vulgarity and markers.

One of my personal climbing dreams? A local crag where I can train after work during the week.... OUTSIDE. If I lived in the Valley, this dream would be reality with Stoney Point Park. There's a good number of bouldering problems for all levels. In fact, it has enough VB's and moderates so even beginners and weak boulderers (that would be me) can make up a circuit. There's top roping as well, with a good range of routes. For the most part, I've found the crowd coming here to be pretty friendly.
Downsides? Crazy amounts of broken glass everywhere - lots of grafitti all over the rock. I guess that's part of being in LA.

Stoney Point is a part of climbing history as there have been people pulling off sandstone holds here since the 1930's. Now if I was not a climber would I consider an afternoon? I guess scurrying up to the top of the formation might hold some appeal, but the broken glass, trash, bums sleeping in the cave, and the occasional pile of feces are some of the less attractive parts of Stoney Point. If you are a climber and live within reasonable driving distance, I would incorporate Stoney into your after work routine. Especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays, there is a great assortment of locals who are bouldering and giving great beta and encouragement. I spent several years driving out here and my footwork and climbing technique made leaps and bounds as a result. Enjoy and take it for what Stoney really is, an urban playground that due to its proximity to LA is very convenient to get to, but as a result has some of the downsides of people who do not have as much of a love and respect of nature as you might. IMPORTANT: Do not climb here within two weeks of it raining! I have seen many a hold get pulled off and it takes much longer for the rock to dry out then you would think.

I've been here only about 3 or 4 times, but that's only because I don't live in the area. I'm definitely a fan of this place. It's really fun to hike, boulder, climb, repel, anything. It has really easy access, and a lot of routes. The only downside is a lot of dead brush, and broken glass. The graffiti doesn't bother me that much, because quite a bit of it is actually pretty good, but then again I'm a fan of it.
I came here last week with a bunch of intrepid co-workers to try my hand at rock climbing. It is really a good place for rock climbing and bouldering. My co-workers leading our group regularly come here to get their dose of these rocks and crevices. Most climbing walls and areas are within a short hike along one of the trails. Sadly though, much of the park is littered with broken glass and graffiti. I can't understand how people can litter around with utter disregard to nature and fellow park users. But nevertheless, it's better to watch your step lest you get hurt. The climbing was real fun and the intemperate weather failed to dampen our spirits. The adrenaline rush was awesome leaving me wanting more. By the end of the climbing session, I had conquered one of the beginner slopes and had reached within 4 feet to the top of an intermediate climb on my second try at it. Of course, I had enough bruises on my hands and legs to testify my effort! There are enough walls to climb and it is unlikely you will not find a climbing wall if you show up. This seems to be a very popular spot for the rock climbing and bouldering as there were a lot of other groups in addition to ours. One tip though, getting in early means you get your choice of walls to climb. I am definitely coming back here.

I unexpectedly had so much fun hiking here. This place was a second choice after I miserably failed locating the trail head to Devil's Canyon. With that said, I can't believe I drove all the way to Vasquez Rocks when this place is actually a lot better and so much closer. I also saw rock climbers here but not at Vasquez, which is another plus if you're into the sport. I find during my visit here that every nook and cranny is a surprise and an adventure, and there are lots of them.
Having been to Horse Flats, Tram, J Tree, Bishop, various Malibu areas, and Rubidouix, I still give Stony props for the easy access. Local easy to find routes and an amazing history. The location is also a downside because of the broken glass, graffiti and homeless camps, but would go again and again weather permitting. Please don't climb here just after the rains.
