GOD BLESS STONE'S BEVERAGE CENTER!

My boyfriend, who is much more of a beer connoisseur than I am, and I have never been dissatisfied.  Stone's provides all sorts of unique, delicious beers, like Bell's, Victory, and Dogfish Head, by the case... and if they don't have it, they'll try to get it for you.  For example, I called YESTERDAY inquiring about the special release of Dogfish Head's Burton Baton by the case and TODAY they had two cases for me.  It will be $70 for this case of 24 specialty beers... so at $3 a bottle, I feel like I've won the lottery.

AND they DELIVER.  Which is nice when you've just got home, have a parking spot and, being lazy or just happy with your parking spot, don't want to go over just to pick up beer.  At $3 for delivery +$1 per extra case, it is easy to splurge.

I am ecstatic right now.  Had to rave.  They are the best in the 'hood.  Hooray for Stone's!!

When I lived in the neighborhood, this was my go-to place. They had pretty decent deals on Yuengling as well as some imports. The walk-in refrigerator had a plethora of beers in it, though I"m not sure you really need to keep Bud cold.

The main floor has a pretty good selection of foreign, popular and indie domestic beers. I would have said a great selection, but after going over to Jersey and visiting Canal's and some other places I realize that they didn't have a lot of the German and Belgian beers I like. The prices are reasonable for Philly. However when you compare to the prices at Canal's, they aren't that great except for the Yuengling deals.

I'd recommend this place if you live in Philly and don't visit Jersey at all.

fantastic selection of everything. your craft brews, your mainstream poo, a respectable selection of imports, the stuff that's $70 for a case and has handwritten descriptions on the box.

they even sell american spirit loose tobacco. i mean.... man.

I went here with the intention of getting a sixtel of a microbrew for a house party.  They had about 5 different sixtels in stock, which is pretty mediocre.  I ended up with a 1/6bbl of Victory HopDevil for $68 (incl tax) + $30 keg deposit.  All in all, not bad, but not great either.

I recently moved to Philadelphia from Virginia where you can get beer in any grocery store.  While the laws governing beer, wine, and liquor sales are extremely odd, going to a special beer dealer is somewhat of a novelty.  It kind of makes buying beer more of an event. I chose Stones because it was near my house and in the area of another errand I was running.  The staff was extremely friendly and they seemed to have a good selection...at least certainly better than you would get in a grocery store in virginia.  I will definitely be back.

Beeeeeeer!  Beer for all the eye can see!

The craft aisle here kicks serious rear.  It's laid out regionally with east coast brews towards the front of the store and roll out west towards the back and a section for bombers (22oz) and 750mL bottled brews.  All the usual players (pretty much every PA brewery, Dogfish, Brooklyn, etc) and smaller batch folks (Green Flash, Ballast Point, Port, Founders, Bells etc) and a decent showing of Belgian/Trappist (Petrus, Kwak, Chouffe, Chimay, Bernardus, Urthel, Kasteel, Koningshoeven etc) and other import specialties.  And the best part is, if you can't find it here, they'll order it for you!  When I queried one Wednesday afternoon, about a certain Lost Abbey brew that had been eluding me, they called me that Friday to tell me it came in!

And if you don't know ale from lager, cascade from saaz, or brettanomyces from pitching yeast, they've got you covered too.  Pabst to Heineken, Smirnoff Ice to Sapporo, Bud to Country Club.  They actually 'sponsored' our weekly '40 and blunts nights', where every Monday night we'd select a different case of malt liquor in 40 ounce denominations and well, you can fill in the blanks.

Ahh, and who could forget the pleasure of having a case of beer (or a keg and the rest of a party right down to the pretzels) delivered to your residence?

"And I think to myyyself, what a wooonderfuul woooorld!"

This place should get one star because they are not helping me cut back on beer. But they get four stars. Ideally, I would not have to buy a case of beer every day...

One of the best beer distributors in the city when you combine hours, location, selection, price and mascot.  Not a huge cold selection, but good enough for most of us out there and more then good enough for last minute beer shopping.

They have a cute cat that greets me every time I'm in there, who (for the football season anyway) has her own football field to sleep in.

The beer selection ranges from coors light and meisterbrau to blithering idiot and boddington's.  It's not the end all be all of selection, but they do a pretty good job.  (NOTE:  They do not have Dale's Pale Ale.) Keg selection is also pretty good considering it's not a huge place.

Parking is a bit precarious, so be careful.  Their "lot" is diagonal parking across the sidewalk and you might hit someone...

Check it out.  There's a liquor store two blocks away, too.
