A good place to hangout outside and have a beer when the weather is comfortable. The decor is quite relaxing and the staff is friendly. Others have said that the bar is loud, but seeing that I have only been on weekdays, that has never been a problem for me. The drinks are a litte pricey -- about $5 for a common draft beer on the weeknights -- which is my main impediment to coming back. Otherwise, I would love to visit this bar more often.

Cool location, nice staff but TOO LOUD.  I don't have to return.

This is a bar not a lounge.  Cold beer god drinks (martinis not so much)

Ahhh, the Stoneleigh P., a true Dallas Institution, kind of like Willie, or Adair's, or our football team with that horrible owner, sorry, I digress - This place Rocks... now that the bathroom sewage smell is gone and Tom succumbed and put a fryer in the kitchen to fry up some of the BEST FRIES in the city!!!!  Oh, and yes folks, they now serve, du du dah dah ...KETCHUP!!!  YUMMOSKI!
If you're a healthy eater they have wonderful salads and awesome soups!  The staff is laid back and friendly and be sure and tell Mo, the day bartender hello, he's like an Institution himself - having been there over twenty years, he pours a stiff one, that's Fo Sho'!!!  So stop on by and grab a drink, join some friends on their big patio and hang out during this crazy-hot-arse-summer we're havin'!!!!

You'd figure that if you have a very highly rated hotel across the street in the Stoneleigh Hotel & Spa, you could at least have some respectable food to cater to the guests of that fine lodging establishment.  I guess they can just bank on the fact that they have the most convenient eating location (with late operating hours) in this area and the business will come.  I wouldn't have been eating a bowl of chicken tortilla soup at the Stoneleigh P, but there just wasn't any better options around midnight in the near vicinity.  I'd a big fan of chicken tortilla soup but it was not flavorful at all and probably the worst chicken tortilla soup I've had.  It would have been nice if they could add some cilantro, cheese, or garbanzo beans; any of those would have been a huge improvement.

First of all, I like their parking lot.  It's a decent size and adjacent to the building.  If you have lunch in the uptown area, you will understand the importance of good parking.

Normally, I order the chicken sandwich, but today I tried the Stoneleigh burger and I'll admit it was pretty good.

The atmosphere is a bit masculine and a bit outdated, but it doesn't seem to change the taste of the food.

A good place to go when you are having a bad hair day.

This place is SOLID, always. That's what it is. The drink is what you ask for, not a martini special of the day. Moe is the greatest bartender in town, and works during the day now. Spinach salad is great, so is xotillo (sp?) soup. Burger is great and a slight twist on the usual. And the prices are very reasonable. Just go.

An old pharmacy turned into a bar with a crowd boasting every age under the Dallas umbrella, there are little to no bars like the Stoneleigh P.

I always enjoy sitting under the shade provided by the trees that hang over their patio on a nice spring day and noshing on their pretty tasty sandwiches and occasional daily gazpacho special. Their service is always very friendly and prompt. But the best thing of all is the dog friendly patio. I know all you dog lovers out there can relate. Not only do they allow dogs, but they actually LOVE your dogs as well -- almost more than their customers. Their tap selection is not so extensive but has a good range featuring Ugly Pug and Stella to Fat Tire and Bass Ale.

Be sure to check out the nostalgic items hailing from their old pharmacy days like old combs and medical remedies. A little historical education while you drink, per say?

I think the Stoneleigh P is a better bar than food place, but it is a fun bar and I have had lots of fun times there.  It has a nice front patio for whenever the weather is nice.
It seems like I used to always end up there after friends weddings, not sure if it was because it was well known or what but it is always a good time.

Whatever haters....to everyone else. You get what you get. That's why I like this place. It's uber casual, no fuss and the servers do just that, serve. They are not there to wipe your ass or caudal you when you trip and fall (after your many PBR's). They say hello, take your order, bring your food, hand over the bill. The end.

One a lovely day like today, lunch on their patio is divine. I had their smoked turkey sammy on their pumpernickel bun (ask for extra garlic mayo (you'll thank me later)). Um...YUM! This heavenly concoction is perfsies!!! Served with chips (remember they don't serve ketchup here, so no fries). The burgers are eh, ok...but like I said, I like the turkey, gobble gobble. My homegirl got the cobb salad and enjoyed every morsel. The ice tea tastes like water, but what do you expect from a primary bar type place? Whatevs.

Our server was delightful. When we sat down outside she greeted us and I said "what a GORGE day!" she said "I know! Who would ever want to sit inside on a day like today?!?" I couldn't agree more homegrillz.

Late night....personally, I like it but a lot of people don't, which I get, I really do. It's can be douchelord central. I stick with friends, grab a booth and are quite content.

Can I get a what what??

Came with 8-10 friends to try the burgers. As cow-aficionados, we were less than impressed. We weren't asked how we wanted the burgers cooked, and that's a shame. Every single patty was over salted and way over-done.

Within the group, we tried every variation Stoneleigh P's could throw at us. I had the bacon/bluecheese/etc action, and didn't taste either one. Between you and me, if I'm going to clog my arteries I want some flavor satisfaction in return. My compatriots agreed.

The pumpernickel bun was reportedly tasty, and most of us got extra garlic mayo after I read about it here. Still, those novelities weren't enough to make up for a poorly cooked burger and a waiter with an even worse attitude.

    Pass.

I rarely ever give a place one star, so you know I have to mean it. I've driven by the SP many times always thinking to myself, "Hey self, you should go there sometime." So I finally did go there sometime. Last night... and ick.

I've always thought this place would be a bit nice inside since it is across from the Stonleigh Hotel and um.. almost shares the name. So I was already a bit bummed when we walked inside to find a drab and dirty diner-looking bar. I didn't even want to sit down, it just seemed so dirty.

We chose a booth and waited and waited until homeboy finally came by with menus. Our waiter/hater couldn't have cared less about us. I had to get up three times to walk to the bar and order, and once to close our tab so we could get the F outta Dodge.

We ordered nachos after finding out that they didn't offer grilled cheeses OR french fries. Whaaaa? The nachos were just whatevs, and the serving was pretty small. The wine selection was uber poor only offering a few crappy brands.

Oh and what put the cherry on the bad review was that there was an actual hooker in action here and no one seemed to care. Does this happen a lot? Some girl (in hook attire) was walking around introducing herself and fawning over the few men that were there. I guess she struck gold (more like pennies) with the dude behind us because they MADE OUT for a bit, then left and went across the street to the hotel. I mean really?

Ew. I was so grossed out I had to take a shower when I came home. You should DEFINITELY skip this place.

Dude, what the holy hell. I live about 100 yards from this place but haven't been in a long long time. Sunday at lunchtime, Mom n' I were driving around, trying to decide where to go get our beers n burgers at... and we drove right up on the 'P. I said, HEY, let's do the P". Big mistake.

We parked and walked in. There were about 10 people on the patio and about 2 tables worth of people on the inside. There was one older waitress behind the bar, wrestlin' around in the beer bucket like a squirrel with a nut, looking for something. She saw us come in but continued her digging. No "Hey, Happy Sunday! Have a seat anywhere". No "Welcome to the Stoneleigh P, I'll be right with you". Just a sneer and she walked off. Mom and I looked at each other, shrugged, and waited for her to walk back our way.

She finally did. We asked "Can we sit outside?" her reply was "Go on, I'll be with you in a minute!". Mkay. So we went outside and sat. And waited. Saw her bring out food. Saw her bring out menus for another table who had also been waiting and take their order and walk off. Didn't come over, ask what we'd like to drink or bring over menus. Apologize for being busy (which she couldn't have been that busy with about 20 people in the joint) or having any inkling of friendliness about her.

So, we gave up, walked off, and left. I was afraid if the food she was about to serve us DIDN'T give us food poisoning, it would be spat in. The Montgomery family I come from are BIG bar going drinkers. BIG mistake.

It stunk like beer joint in there too. Not good beer joint either.

I'm going to be pretty partial to Stoneleigh P after my trip there Saturday night. The bartender in all his glory decided to give us our drinks for free.

    For FREE!

We had been at the Stoneleigh hotel for a wedding and decided to grab a post-reception drink before calling it a night (actually, we ended up BACK at the hotel bar for a nightcap because we're lushes who don't have an off switch).

We quickly grabbed a couple tables on the patio and I was surprised the place was so dead considering it was around 11 PM. We didn't have any issues with getting our drinks or with any sort of bad service, but for some reason or another the drinking gods were smiling on us and deemed us worthy of the elusive free tab.

After a couple rounds, my roommate went to go close up shop and the bartender pulled the receipt, gave it a quick look, tore it up and said "Don't worry about it, you guys were cool."

I'm not sure what my roommate or anyone else did to this guy to make him like us as much as he did, but bravo team. . .bravo.

I liked the patio and I think we'll be coming back soon to give the food a whirl. Hopefully it won't ruin what was a pretty awesome first trip.

I dont know how this burger has been mentioned as one of the best burgers in texas.  No where close!!!  I dont care what you say a burger needs more than a garlic mayo.  I personally love ketchchup on a burger and of course mustard.  But no, they refuse to even have ketchup.  I guess it cuts some food cost.  The burger was slightly dry, but tasty and the bun it was served on was sub par.

Now the bar itself is tons of fun.  Still smokey, but I am glad to see an old bar still keeping its old ways.  The decor is really cool and the place is huge.  Go for the drinks and not the burger.

I managed to inexplicably go here for the first AND second time in the same day.

Lunch was extremely unimpressive.  I had heard good things about the burger....but it was very disappointing.  It's heavy on the bread...really it overwhelmed any taste except for the spicy mustard.  I'd have to put it in the lowest burger quartile in the city.

Despite promising myself that I would not return for some time...I wound up there playing photo hunt later that night.  And, admittedly, the bar was better...and made up for lunch somewhat.

Compared to Quarter Bar, photo hunt here was a bit pricey ($1/game compared to $0.25/game I think at Quarter)...though they had a few different picture options (classic, non-pornographic, and Penthouse).  They also have a digital jukebox...with a pretty decent/standard collection.  The bartenders were pretty friendly...and though they don't have port (I've been into port for some reason lately) ...everything drink wise was fine if a bit overpriced.

    Overall...if you're goin for a beverage with your photo hunt...it's decent...if not...skip it...

The Stoneleigh P is real hit-or-miss.

Some nights it's way over-crowded with too-fratty kids wearing blazers laughing about the embarrassingly-drunken speech they just gave at a rehearsal dinner.

Some nights there's no one in there at all.

Some nights it's in between, full but not too full with a fun, happy crowd.

Pros: Good jukebox, great outdoor seating, pool table is actually in a room big enough for a pool table, and like I said really fun on some nights.

Cons: Those "miss" nights, their burgers suck, the bartenders will take their sweet time getting your drink order, and check your bank account after you pay with a credit card- they've charged WAY too much to my credit card a few times in the past.  Not saying it was on purpose, but still...

I was not really happy with this place on Saturday night. I had really enjoyed it in the past, but only had been in a few times so I guess this time was a deciding factor for me. I'm placing this joint on probation and in all honesty, I doubt I will EVER be back again with the GF.

After an exciting day of perusing historic Main Street in Grapevine, we sauntered over here to try our hand at a burger and nachos as a late night snack to absorb previously quaffed vodka tonics and whatever else was ingested. I ordered the standard Stoneligh burger and she went with the Smoked chicken nachos, which in all terms, sounded delicious. Both items came out dry, overcooked, flavorless and, oh did I mention dry? The meat had no seasoned taste at all and the bun, while interesting (think it was rye?) was a cool touch, the only thing I got from eating the burger was the mayo or whatever dressing was on the bun.

The nachos received a grand total of 3 bites, before she put down the napkin and said "ridiculous" and walked away. I grabbed a chip, filled with the chicken, cheese and beans and took a bite and said the same. Nothing but cardboard on that chip. Boooo Hisssssss.

Atmosphere was fine- very chill. Service was excellent for us so no complaints there. Shiner Bock was served very cold! Food wise- yuck. Maybe I had a standard in my head that this was supposed to be better, but my expectations were not met. I will be back because I hate for a one timer to be the deciding factor, but it won't be with the GF. We really know who the boss is don't we guys?

    Two words: Douche Central!

I went to the Stoneleigh P for an evening cocktail with a few of my girlfriends.  No sooner did we walk in did we get swarmed by a group of Dallas douche bags who had been playing pool.  Places that attract less than reputable characters and allow unsavory behavior I can do without.

Granted, I've been to Stoneleigh P a couple other times and didn't run into the exact same problems.  But honestly, The bar's not very well laid out, it gets REALLY loud when it's crowded, and they don't serve ketchup (which is un-American).  I feel like I spent ages waiting for my guest check to arrive, also.

Sure, they have a great selection of magazines to peruse while you're waiting on your fare and it's a charming old bar, but that's about where it stops.  I don't despise the place, but it won't be my choice to go there.

I can say I was very impressed with the dive bar feel at, well, ANYTHING in Uptown . . . the P has a great vibe . . . I just wish the food was better. I had the migas and they were very mediocre. My buddy said the Italian sausage was lame, but everyone who got a burger said they loved it . . . take that as you will . . .

Maybe I shouldn't have gone for brunch. Maybe I should have gotten a burger. Maybe I should have taken that 45 year divorcee up on her offer to "make me a man." Ahh well.

I'll go back once the bridesmaid factor is is full effect again. Maybe I'll become a man sometime. With a bridesmaid. On the patio. Or the bathroom. I'm easy . . .

    (probably too easy)

I have been going to the Stoneleigh P for over 30 years.  That should tell you something.  I keep coming back.

Is the food impressive?  In context, yes.  This is a bar, a drinking bar, and the food is not an afterthought, it is quite good for bar food at places like this.  Yes, the burger bun is too much bread (though quite tasty).  Yes, the menu is pretty limited, but what's there is thoughtfully-prepared.

The service staff is quite good.  The crowd is one of the better crowds in Dallas if you like young, urban professionals.

So, lay off the P.  It didn't promise to be a great restaurant when you walked-in, shut up and have a shot.

A great bar with great bartenders that are helpful, and fun.  They pour well, and keep you entertained.  The crowd is eclectic and a nice place in the Uptown near Downtown.

It's nice to see the other side of things and get near the museums and see all that surrounds this neat area.  The burger was pretty good, but I shouldn't have asked for ketchup and won't do that again.  I guess it's sacriligous around these parts?

Another one of my favourite places. This old place is still getting it done, and whenever I go to visit family back in Dallas I have to stop in. In fact, when I was on a round-the-world trip from my home in Sydney last year, I made it a point to meet old college pals here.

I've had some pretty good times here. I started going when I lived in Dallas some years ago. Some friends of mine and I would sit on the patio on a sunny Sunday afternoon and have a few beers. Or we'd go after work for happy hour.

I used to be such a usual that one waitress/bartender would swing round the table and drop off a shot of Patron for me, gratis. I always bitched about that, because let's face it -- if you're there at 6 p.m. on a Friday and you're planning to go out that night, you don't need to be doing shots of tequila 30 minutes into happy hour. But I didn't complain; I just took my medicine.

Great burgers -- they're different than what you'll get elsewhere. Beware, though: no french fries, only potato chips. Good ones, though.

I gave the place 5 stars just to counteract the turds whining about this place. The Stoneleigh P has been around forever, long before the area was overrun with beer bloat frat boys with tattoos on their ankles and sorority girls wearing different versions of Ann Taylor tops. Hell, maybe they shop at Nordstroms, I dont care.

There's some fun regulars that have stuck out the invasion and if you can get your nose out of your iPhone long enough to carry on a conversation, you might find them pretty fun too.

Yea, the burgers are eh. The nachos are pretty tasty. Treat the bartender/waitresses like a human beings, rather than your personal drink bitch, and they might poor a little heavy handed.

Walked in and walked out.  Seemed like a dive bar with no redeeming qualities.  This was really just a first impression walking through on a Wednesday after it had rained.

Seems like I drove by about a week ago and the patio crowd seemed well-heeled.  However when I walked through tonight (Wednesday evening) it had only stopped raining about an hour before.

However, the bartender across the street did tell me that the Stoneleigh P has a rep as a dive bar so I'm guessing that my experience is inline with it's general reputation.

If I go there again I'll post an update but I REALLY liked The Common Table down the street so I'm not sure if I'll be back.

Ok, it's a dive.  Get over it.  The food is generally good, the beer is cold and the service is acceptable.  I've met the owner.  He's owned the place for 32 years and is comfortable with the place just the way it is.

I'll give it 4 stars.  I don't use ketchup on my burgers anyway...but do with they served fries..guess a deep fat fryer is too dangerous?  There are other places that are the same way.  Chips only.

Over the years I have been to the Stoneleigh P and always thought it was funny that they don't serve ketchup (not a big deal for me because I don't like ketchup).  Last night a couple of friends invited there for dinner.

I had the chef salad and I guess I realized something was off with the dressing, but assumed it was just me and kept eating.  Around ten I got sick to my stomach and didn't get relief until around three AM.  I am pretty convinced it was the salad.  Anyway, if it wasn't the salad the salad pretty much sucked.  I won't be going back.  On the other hand the waitstaff was really nice and polite.

I am with Brad H.'s review. This place is not too bad for a Dallas "institution", but it really does  depend on the night you are there and the crowd you must endure. I do like the pumpernickel buns on the burgers, but that's not any reason to go to a place. If I am in "uptown", it's one of the few places I don't mind going to, so long as the post wedding crowd has not taken over the place. It is not really an "uptown" feel inside. I did like the honesty of one of the bartenders who was acting as a server this past Saturday night. His brutally honest reviews of their wines was quite helpful. I stuck to beer!

I am sure someone else has said it; this place has been around forever.  The drinks are stiff and the patio is fun to hang out on a cool night.  P.S. the patio is also dog friendly.  I am not going to comment on the food as I have never really had a meal here.  I come for the cheap drinks.

unassuming which adds stars for me especially in dallas. oh and they sell hoegaarden that's where the other star comes from. went there for lunch. why did i try the gumbo? i'm cajun. WHY DID I TRY THE GUMBO? well, because it was called Swamp Mama Gumbo. it sounded authentic. NOT! (haven't said that in a while) it was more like vegetable soup.

there were lots of magazines that you could flip through while you ate. seems like there were quite a bit of business men eating alone and checking out magazines or otherwise trying to entertain themselves.

Was just there last Fri meeting to meet 2 separate groups of ppl.  Good burgers (they're the snootier kind-- pumpernickel bun, garlic mayo).  Great patio.  Really more a bar than restaurant, so the title's misleading.

Mediocre burgers terrible Service. Both hallmarks of this place. I'll never come back. The only distinction I'll give them is the pumpernickel buns. Other than that I say meh!

Hey everyone...been going to this bar for over 20 years...its become like an old shoe, comfortable--feels good for the soul.  Its great going to a bar /grill that is classy in a non-upscale way.  I go there ALOT for lunch....i order the chicken sandwich, their tomato salad (not on the menu anymore but its sliced roma tomatoes sitting on top of bed of spinach with an amazing balsamic shallot vinagrette poured on top of it.  The xotillo soup is like a healthy tortilla or lime soup with chicken, vegetables, rice, avocados ...anytime im under the weather I get it....plus the godiva pie is outstanding!

Its my favorite place in dallas to go for drinks....great pours for decent price.

I use to work nearby and this was one of the places we would go for a few drinks after work.  Homey bar atmosphere in an old style grocery type decor... long bar.... outside patio seating when its nice.   Large Magazine rack when you want to catch up with your mags.  Very relaxing spot.  Need a snack with your beer go for the chips with verde salsa & cheese dip... its so good.  enjoy

I would have to agree with most of the reviews. It's a real hit or miss. I hope when they reopen the Stoneleigh across the street they'll consider reworking the P. The food I've had there has been pretty good. And having drinks there at night really depends on the company you're with!

Dallas is  dying in a sea of yuppies, and this place is a good old Fashion bar with great food and strong drinks. Migas and burgers are bomb, $2 schlitz's if you don't mind. I'm a friend of P!
