Designed by local PGA Tour favorite Peter Jacobsen, Stone Creek is a modern 18 hole golf course in Oregon City.

The front and back nine play totally differently.  The front 9 winds through open plains lined by tall grass and a few trees.  The back nine plays more like a traditional Pacific Northwest target golf course as it goes through the trees and winds across a large valley.  I was told that this is by design.

There are a few funky holes on the back nine.  Holes 12 and 13  cross over a valley and have uphill approach shots (you can't even see the green on your approach on 13).  Hole 15 has a white stake signifying where you should place your tee shot because you can't see the landing area or hazards from the tee box.  Course designers should pay heed to Gary Player's wisdom - no great golf holes play uphill!

Most people that I've talked to prefer the front nine and it is easier.  If you haven't scored well by the time that you make the turn, it is unlikely that you are going to do so on the back nine.

The greens are mixed Bent and Poa-Annua.  They tend to be on the larger side, fairly quick but don't undulate much.  Like The Reserve, it is easy to read too much break on these greens.

Their practice area isn't too shabby either - with grass driving range tees, two pitching greens, a large putting green and a practice sand bunker.

This course was built for drainage and it shows.  It is one of the best winter courses in the Pacific Northwest.

At $39 for a summer round, Stone Creek ranks as one of the best values in the area.  If you happen to be a member of The Reserve or Camas Meadows card programs, you can get an extra 10% off.

I think this is a great local golf course. It is the only golf course that play really well in the Portland winter. The service is always friendly. I highly recommend this course.
