Probably one of the BEST wines in the Santa Ynez - Los Olivos area!  The staff is INCREDIBLY insightful.  Located in the heart of Solvang --- here's why you GOTTA stop by Stolpman's:

    1.   I LOVE ANDREAS!!!  He truly is charming and has great showmanship.  Knows EXCEPTIONAL WINES and steers you clear of the "bad buys" in the area.  Not pushy whatsoever!

    2.   Olive Oil --- a wonderful surprise for your palate --- grassy-fruity loveliness.... AND it's GOOD for you!!!

    3.   Award winning VINO!!!!  Must have the ANGELI, L'Avion, Nebbiolo, Poetry in Red and the heavenly Sangiovese....

My buddy called them because the Sangiovese we got was sour... bad bottle, I suppose.  She called the folks at Stolpman and they immediately asked for her addy to ship her a new bottle!  GREAT FOLKS I TELL YOU!!!

Andreas was off on Saturday, but ANDREA was there... and she is truly a vino aficionado --- she KNOWS her stuff and gave us TONS of advice where to visit to tap into our tastebuds.... LOVE THAT!!!

Well-informed, friendly and interesting tasting room staff make this tasting room a winner.

Stolpman specializes in Syrah but also grows some Italian varietals (like sangiovese and nebbiolo), and you can taste them all here in downtown Solvang.

I particularly mention the staff because I went on a last-minute tasting through the Buelton/Santa Ynez/Los Olivos area and this was my first stop: he made suggestions that resulted in the success of my tasting trip.

Their wines are also award winning and high quality.

    blah.
I only tasted there once and it was not very good. I like a more rich, bold fruit flavors, light-med tanic wine this was just too tanic, tasted like it was in the barrel and absorbed all the oak or way to peppery.  Hey some people like that though if so you would enjoy this place. I tasted one there I think I liked. The olive oil was really tasty. The staff was very nice and informative and it is a nice tasting room. I would definitely give a 5 star to staff  and their olive oils but as far as the wines...sorry you only earn a measly 3 stars.

My only complaint about doing a tasting here (as with many other wineries) is that you're not allowed to do a tasting of their top wines. In this case it's the Angeli and the La Croce.  I got a few bottles of their Angeli Cuvee at a barrel futures tasting a couple of years ago, and it is superb.  They need a wine club just for those high end wines, as their charming winepourer mentioned they might be considering that.  After having the Angeli I just wasn't as impressed with their other tasting selections.

We came here because a booklet described their wines as made in the french style.  They had a classy tasting room with a number of visitors who looked like they knew their stuff.  Still, however, the wine did not quite meet our expectations.  It was all  balanced, but the flavor profiles were a little weak and hard to discern.  A lot of vanilla flavors with the whites.

Hands down the most beautiful tasting room with the most informative staff in Los Olivos.  Reed and Andreas were tireless in answering our many questions about their wines and the step by step process from vine to bottle, and their humorous and friendly interaction with each other was probably my favorite pairing of the weekend.  Reed saw to it that our tasting experience was maximized by "upgrading" our tasting to include some of their top wines, and we couldn't have been more appreciative.  The Syrahs and the Sangiovese were divine.  Both the wines and the experience deserve all five stars.  If you are in Los Olivos, don't miss it.
