yum! i personally think ice creams are the best when it's brisk and cold.
although i can definitely have them by my side all year long :)
the employee was really really friendly, letting me try many flavors,
telling me what her favorite flavors were, and giving me a stamp card
that can get you a free small ice cream if you get 10 stamps.
i got the medium sized cup for $6.25 (+ tax), with the pistachio salted caramel
and mint chip chocolate flavors. they were both really nice, i could not
believe they were non-dairy based! good service and good taste, why not visit? -

This place is awesome. All of the ice 'creams' are made on site, and the baked goods are all from local bakeries! (Yay for Babycakes!) Being vegan and therefore having a good grasp of the respective options in the city, it might mean something to state that this is definitely one of my most successful means to a happy ice 'cream' ending.
Great variety. Choose from Soy or Hemp or Coconut based flavors. (All super good, so sample for your fave flave!)
The only explanation I have for not awarding them 5 stars are the prices. Not too crazy, but they help me to hesitate, which is probably a good thing 'cause otherwise I'd be here every other day. However you can't really blame them for this considering the inhumane sums required to occupy a square inch of space in this city.
Love that they are efficient with waste and discourage the use of excess material (15 cents for a plastic cup for water, AKA always bring your water bottle! Duh.)
Do it!

Vegan ice cream, where have you been my whole life??
The flavors are plentiful and changing, and I love the mexican chili ones and the ginger ones. The flavors are really creative and feature interesting combinations like pomegranate and chocolate chip.I like to pretend it's calorie-free, since it's free of so many other things: dairy, hormones. The ice cream is not very creamy but that's the way I like it. Flavor though it has in abundance.
You can sit inside on swivel chairs or benches to eat. They also sell some vegan cupcakes and chocolates. If I am in the neighborhood, I can't help but want to stop by. -

Yum. Awesome ice cream texture and the best flavors. I don't miss the dairy here. One taste and you'll be converted. I love the salted caramel. Take the punch card!

My first experience with vegan ice cream, and I really enjoyed it.
Stogo's ice creams have three different bases - hemp, coconut and soy - and I was happily offered numerous samples before ordering. The soy was by easily my favorite - having been a vegetarian since junior high school, I've probably consumed 10,000 pounds of tofu, so this should have been a no-brainer, but I was curious about the others.
The small cup is surprisingly large, and you can get two flavors. I chose Salted Pistachio and Salted Caramel Pecan, and both were smooth and creamy, with no aftertaste. Really enjoyed them.
As previously mentioned, sampling is encouraged, so you may want to try all the bases because each has a unique taste. Really can't describe it - just trust me.
As is usual, magazines are offered if you don't want to enjoy the view of East 10th Street, but it's a fun area, so would rather people watch than read.
One complaint - why are the chairs so high? They are also fairly narrow - seem designed for size zeros with 38 inch legs. I'm not exactly tall, so I found it easier to stand.
Stogo is a fun place.Listed in: Ice cream, sorbet, gelato..., Go Vegan!

I loved it, it was my first vegan ice cream not bought as a pint from Whole Foods! I got an ice cream sandwich, how can you go wrong with that? You can't! Delish!!

Delicious vegan ice-cream, plus Babycakes desserts. You can custom order a vegan ice-cream sandwich made with Babycakes chocolate chip or oatmeal cookies. Also, the staff will let you sample as many flavors as you desire.

Can we bring this to LA? Please? It's so awesome that they have different bases (hemp, soy, etc). It doesn't taste just like regular ice cream, but it was pretty delicious.

I first saw Stogo on the movie "Something Borrowed," and I realized that I only live about three blocks away from it, so I had to give it a try. I tried the coffee, mint, and chocolate (coconut-based) flavors. Mint is usually my favorite ice cream flavor, but today their's tasted like toothpaste. However, their coffee and chocolate were VERY good, especially for being non-dairy alternatives to ice cream. I will definitely have to return to give their other flavors a try.

Excellent, excellent vegan ice cream. Having a nut allergy, I was happy to see their products were mostly coconut and not cashew-based. The selection was a little bit limited, but it was the middle of January and close to closing time, so we'll definitely be back when it's warmer and see what they've got!

Although I am no vegan, I really enjoy Stogo's ice cream. They have some cool flavors such as Apple Cobbler, Pumpkin Pie and salty pecan. The price is a little high to be honest and I suspect it is because it is Vegan?!
It is pretty delicious though. Would come back again. -

Thank you kgb deals for the $1 regular size ice cream!! I came here Friday night after a nice vegan dinner and needed to satisfy my sweet tooth. I love the customer service here, right away they were more than willing to approve my coupon but willing to let me sample whatever flavors I wanted. I wanted to know what their most popular flavor of the moment was and there was actually two flavors, pumpkin spice and salted caramel. I did try both of these along with the oatmeal raisin cookie but decided the pumpkin and salted caramel were the way to go.
Both flavors accented each other perfectly as well so that really worked! The pumpkin was this beautiful orange color and really took on the full flavoring of pumpkin with a nice added touch of cinnamon. And then the salted caramel, there will always be something about salty and sweet that will have a spot in my heart! Not only was this that perfect sweet and salty pairing but there was also pecans in the ice cream as well! Perfection. Both of my ice creams were soy based and while some people feel its just shaved ice, I felt that both of these ice creams had the same texture as a regular ol' ice cream. Also the regular sized ice cream is more than enough and they really hook you up. I also opted to eat it with the little wooden sample spoon so it would last my fat ass a little longer! -

My hubby is cursed with a dairy allergy, which is no fun for a chef! He loves [vegan] ice "cream" (gourmet flavors, too), but good luck finding anything decent in this city. Then comes Stogo, his savior. I do not have any dairy allergy, but even I love their selection. Their ice cream is creamy, flavorful, and dare I say, healthy?? They don't just use soy as a base. They also have coconut and hemp based flavors. Genius! Their Bananas Foster flavor is off the hook, as is their ginger bourbon vanilla and their sweet potato! They have soooo many more flavors too.....We feel spoiled! Of course their ice "cream" is not cheap at $12-13/pint, but when you don't have much of a choice (other than to not eat ice cream), it's a great option to have! On top of that, they carry Babycakes vegan cupcakes, brownies, and cookies, and they have vegan chocolate and hot beverages too. One stop vegan shopping!! I love this place, but my husband appreciates it even more. He would give it 10 stars if he could!

As a non-vegan (but my sister is), i have tried coconut-based ice creams at several shops in SF and tasting Stogo's, I realized I definitely rather have the real thing for three reasons:
1. Every coconut-based ice cream I tried always has a residual coconut aftertaste.
2. It's less sweet. Good for my blood sugar, not for my palette
3. Flavors are not strong enough. Bland.
That said, Stogo is probably the best coconut-based vegan ice cream I have had. Not to say that Stogo also has the issues above, but it is better than others I've tried. They also sell hemp and soy-based ice creams. Similar to Jacques Torres' summer ice cream/sorbet store in DUMBO, Stogo's sorbets were creamy like ice cream. The owner(?) with the beanie and the mustache has a awesome demeanor and let us try almost every flavor. I heard one girl in line whisper, "he's adorable. "
Looking at the counter, it seems no one wanted to have the carrot cake but it was probably the best flavor they had that day IMHO. -

We waltzed into STOGO with our KGB deals, following a light lunch at Mumbles. After reading the reviews, I had my heart set on the Pumpkin Spice and the Salted Caramel, both of which STOGO had neither. After trying 2 flavors, I settled for the pumpkin pie and the chocolate chip cookie. The pumpkin pie tasted more like canned pumpkin - the presence was the there, the flavor wasn't. The chunks of cookie and chips saved whatever the base was in the chocolate chip cookie flavor.
My friend got the Vanilla Chocolate Chip which was REALLY good and a Boubon something doo-hickey that neither one of us liked.
The salesgirl was open to letting us try a few flavors until we mentioned the KGB deal which she seemed to interpret as "no more try mode".
Location: a little weird. If you're not hawk-eyeing the block, you will definitely walk passed it. The shop is cute and clean.
Thank you KGB for the $1 special, STOGO was definitely worth trying. -
Review from Anne L.
Unless you're vegan, mathematically speaking, Stogo isn't worth it to me. 1/3 of the sugar. Sounds great. But if it's not more than 50% fulfilling, then I may as well have not even had it. Now I am 1/3 x icecreamfat fatter and 0% happier than before I walked in.
My lactose intolerant tummy would rather take the dairy. -

Stogo, or not stogo? That is the question...able "ice cream." I should've paid attention to when the employee was scraping my "ice cream" (half coffee, half almond joy) into the cup because it was more like ice chunks. Perhaps my flavor selection was over-frozen, because I could've eaten it with my hands, like those frozen ice cream bites you get in the movie theatre.
My friend's ice cream was much more spoon-able. If I go here again, I will be sure to watch as they scoop up my ice cream when I ask for a sample. -

The vegan ice cream lacks the sweetness found in usual ice cream, but still retain the creamy smooth feeling. Not as creamy as usual ice cream but not as icy and watery as yogurt
We tried the mango and salty caramel pecan. I personally like the taste because it's not too sweet.
Price: small cup $4.65
Verdict: I found it refreshing and flavor was interesting but my boy friend prefer the usual ice cream, but for the price and the portion maybe we'll stick to the standard version. -

Not the best place for vegan ice cream but still pretty good. Needs more of that 'wow' factor in their products. Honestly I'd give this place a 3.5

I had a KGB Deal voucher that expired. (I went in the following day of the actual expiration date). I asked the woman at the counter if I can still redeem it and she said no and looked at me like are you stupid. Many other establishments just let it go....besides it was for a cup of iced coffee. Are you serious? I walked to you so you can give me a snide answer?
I really wanted to like this place because they do not use dairy products and sugar. The main purpose of putting up these specials is to promote the establishment for business isn't it for those who never been...? Stogo, you suck. =P
I emailed KGB deals and they said they would credit me $2 of their KGB credit. I guess all isn't lost.. -

My best girlfriend had a roommate who, after they were no longer roommates, briefly owned a junk store in this location, and while that store actually had a bag of mismatched Scrabble pieces at exactly the time I needed them, I think Stogo is an improvement. They sell a quite unusual vegan frozen dessert product that tastes very natural and unprocessed. The Spiced Mexican Chocolate vegan ice cream is actually so spicy that you need some other flavor to cool your mouth after eating it. Which is superinteresting, though I have to say that the coconut ice cream at Pure Food and Wine is better. The staff is very nice and generous with the samples.

Here is the problem: Ice cream is supposed to be good. You should know you are getting fat if you eat it. This ice cream is not good because you are not getting as fat. So go eat something else.

If I lived in East Village, I would be a fat cow. I stopped eating dairy a month ago. I felt my body getting healthier since I quit eating dairy. I love ice cream, I thought I had to give it all up until I found Stogo. Coconut Milk based Ice Cream in KEY LIME, strawberry, GREEN TEA, pina colada, chocolate, and many others! They also have soy and hemp based. I still prefer my coconut milk because I make green tea lattes with it at home! Anytime I'm in the East Village I make sure to stop by here. Everything is DAIRY-FREE perfect for Vegetarians, Vegans and non dairy lovers or someone willing to try something new!
I really wish I had the chance to introduce myself to the owner that one day last year when I was at a comedy show and she was there! I want to tell her how much I love this place! -

Stogo. is. awesome.
I am in love.
I dont go too often cause i end up spending $7 for ice cream and then end up buying another.
There are coconut, soy, and hemp based ice creams. Each is unique and its great if you have dietary restrictions. One of my favorite flavors is the soy based oatmeal raisin cookie. It is so creamy and the flavors are just perfect. I always get the "caramel" which is brown rice syrup. I love that they don't use refined sugars, and its the main reason i go here. non dairy, AND agave sweetened? DREAM.
i NEED to go soon and try the Spiced Pumpkin Pie flavor!!!!! YUMMMm
fave: (one of my faves) bananas foster cookie sandwich with oatmeal raisin cookies :) -

My boyfriend and I came here last night for dessert. We're both vegan, and I haven't eaten vegan ice cream EVER, so this was my first foray into vegan ice cream land. We both had the $1 KGB deal.
I got a regular-sized cup with Soy-Based Oatmeal Raisin Cookie and Coconut-Based Vanilla Bean. Oatmeal Raisin Cookie was AMAZING. Tastes exactly like an oatmeal raisin cookie, and I couldn't even taste the soy! I wasn't a fan of the Vanilla Bean - it was too icy and frozen, and broke apart very easily so wasn't spoon-able.
My boyfriend got a regular-sized cup with Soy-Based Pumpkin Pie and Soy-Based Salted Caramel Pecan. I wasn't a fan of the pumpkin pie (too sweet for me), but the salted caramel pecan was really good! My boyfriend loved both flavors.
We'll definitely be back to Stogo many times in the future just so I can get my vegan ice cream fix :) -

I tried the vegan ice cream here because I had a deal from kgb deals. I sampled a few flavors, and have to say I really prefer good old fashion ice cream made from dairy product!
The coconut ones are ok, I ended up getting the piña colada flavor. They all have a coconut cream taste as you would expect. And since it doesn't have cream, all ice cream here tends to be a bit icy and less smooth.
Also tried a few soy flavors, they are just plain weird... -

Fuck yes.
This ice cream is so amazing (in part, yes, because it is totally vegan) that the only way to fully express its brilliance is through four-letter expletive exclamation.
One would never know that this is vegan without their disclosure. I must have had ten samples. All excellent. Most fascinating, Stogo has four chocolate flavors: one made with a hemp base, another with soy, another that was coconut, and another that was a water-based sorbet. All great, the chocolate sorbet was so fucking delicious I wanted to call the FBI's fraud department. How could it not be made with dairy? It was creamy. It was rich. I asked the owner if she was married. I was ready to propose.
I also had the chocolate chip cookie ice cream (soy base, I believe). Very good. Made with vegan chocolate chip cookies. Delicious. Creamy. Crunchy.
I'm vegetarian, not vegan, but who needs frozen yogurt when there is ice cream/sorbet this good? Without a doubt, the finest, most delicious, homemade vegan ice cream I've had in New York and San Francisco.
This is ice cream terrorism, folks. It'll change the way you think about ice cream. All around, it's better -- better for you, the environment, the cows -- and better tasting than B&J or Haagen D. There's a new sheriff in town, and her name is Stogo. -
Review from Daphne M.
East Elmhurst, NY
Thanks to KGB Deals, I got a chance to try out Stogo; I wouldn't normally because it's so ridiculously expensive. Oh city life, you drain our wallets so.
Anyway, it's a neat little place with friendly staff and, as you've probably read, some highly respected vegan ice cream.
Please note, I am NOT a vegan. I probably will never be. I love meat, meat products, milk, cheese, all that. I've eaten bricks of mozzarella while watching TV on the couch. Point is, my review is coming from someone who isn't used to the vegan diet.
I settled for a regular size (2 "scoops") of Chocolate Chip Cookie and Ginger Vanilla Bean Bourbon.
Chocolate Chip Cookie: The best part about this flavor was the little cookie bitlets and the chocolate chips. The ice cream, though, have that really distinct soy/fake dairy vegan taste. I have no idea how else to describe it. Still good, but noticeable, and I probably couldn't finish a whole cup of it.
GINGER VANILLA BEAN BOURBON. As you can see from the caps, I am crazily excited about this flavor. IT'S FANTASTIC. Texture-wise, it's thick, really smooth, and has those super microcrystals of ice so you get the barely noticeable iciness. Flavorwise, it packs a punch. You get the sweetness of the vanilla and full bodied spice from the ginger. I couldn't pick up on any bourbon, but that's okay. The only possible way to make this flavor better would be to put ginger snap cookies in there. I highly highly suggest new comers try it out. Just note that this particular flavor costs an extra .55 or so.
Other info: You can sample flavors and they also offer ice cream sandwiches made with the cookies they also sell (I assume).
Price: The regular with 2 flavors is $6.25. It's not all that big, either.
The reason for the -1 star is really just the price. I can't justify spending this much on a small serving of ice cream no matter how good it is. For vegans though, I'm sure this place is a Godsend. -
Review from Chris J.
A golf clap for the knowledgeable employees who are patient with my sorry, ignorant ass as I try multiple flavors and they educate me on the ingredients. I would recommend the pistachio and caramel pecan flavors for the simple fact that they are divine. The best part about the entire experience? The feeling that you get when you realize that you won't have to spend the next week running daily half marathons for stuffing your face. A vegan treat that any "fatty" could enjoy. Sign me up.
*A bit pricey for dessert, but then so is college (see it all ties together). Get thee to Stogo, even Kevin Bacon has been (or so the magazine cover in the window depicts). -
Review from Sean S.
Post-dinner time cravings drew me over here yesterday evening. I finally had a chance to try them, having walked by so many times since they opened.
A little bit of coffee & chocolate in a cup and I was good to go. I have to say I wasn't overly impressed by the coffee, it tasted a bit bland. The chocolate though tasted better than an italian sorbet, though not quite as creamy as a real ice cream!
I will probably be back, but on some level I feel like decadent desserts should be more decadent than these are... -

Vegan ice cream tastes like .... VEGAN ICE CREAM! I'm not sure what it's suppose to taste like, but to me it feels like the difference from Sprite and lemon lime sparkling water... imagine watered down crumbly Ice Cream. Should i love it cause it's "Vegan" or should i compare it to.... ICED CREAM?! ok, so the flavors are good, but pretend you just ate steak flavored tofu.... is it as good as Steak?!
I recommend Stogo if you're a vegan, if not... please please please... find a deal first - ala KGB! -

Non-dairy ice creams choices!
_ soy
_ hemp
_ coconut
They also have sorbets.
HEMP-based GINGER & VANILLA BOURBON ice cream = YUM!
Got a small cup of that. Love that there's fresh ginger in it.
Also sampled their Blueberry ice cream = yum.
Pricey but I only come here once in a blue. -
Review from Denise D.
Stepped into Stogo after a walker by said they have good vegan ice cream. Nom my tummy thought. Yes it was awesome that they were dairy free. Nevertheless, flavors and taste were important. We have the fudge brownie which was chocolaty but not fudgy enough. The pistachio was a lot more creamier. Service was good but needs to be warmer and more sincere.
Tons of choices for dairy and soy allergic people. They have coconut milk, hemp, soy and sorbet bases. Easy for a quick fix. -

Hallelujah! A godsend for a sugarholic on a no-dairy diet.
After a satisfying dinner in the East Village, I wanted sugar. My friend suggested Stogo. Typically, I turn my nose up at dairy-free ice creams. But, since going milk- and cream-less seven weeks ago, I've been craving some cold, creamy deliciousness. Sure, I could buy a pint of Coconut Bliss, which is not a bad alternative, but when you're out with friends, that looks cheap and way uncool.
I managed to walk by 16 Handles without bursting into tears, turned the corner, and was greeted by a little slice of dairy-free heaven. I ordered a small salted pistachio and chocolate walnut turtle. It was $5.45, kind of steep, but oh so worth it! This stuff actually tasted good! Had I not been told it was dairy-free, I would have never guessed.
Very satisfying. I'll definitely be back. -

Yummy dairy free ice cream. so far I've had red velvet and pistachio. both were killer but I especially LOVE their vegan chocolate chip cookies.
The staff is always super friendly and they always have new flavors every time I've stopped by.
