One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Andrew and his wife, Charis, are amazing! I had an offer for a sweet summer combo massage and facial and I really needed it due to the consistent amount of travel I partake in. My chronic shoulder problem may have found some form of relief. Andrew took note of specific symptoms that I was having and "treated" the pain holistically. I can't believe how much better I feel....after months of feeling plagued that the pain was never going to go away...I amsleeping better, I can practice yoga more fluidly and I can breath better. He also seemed to know exactly where the pain was coming from. I scheduled my next massage for a few weeks when I return...this time, 90 minutes.
I was referred to Still Point and Jenny Saxman though a friend and I am thanking my lucky stars!! For years, I've tried to find the right person for regular facials and brow waxing. Jenny is it.
Jenny is phenomenal at what she does and an absolute pleasure to visit with during our appointments. I've gone to see her multiple times for facials, brow waxing, and brow and lash tinting. She's incredibly thorough and caring and she's the only one in the city (that I've found) that can do beautiful, natural-looking brows... AND I no longer have issues with breaking out afterwards. She's made great recommendations for my skin care routine and I now use products that make a visible difference for my skin. I think she's one of the best estheticians in the city and a gem at that!
Thanks Carolyn for the great massage! My knee started bothering me again and my back muscles were really tight, so I decided it was time for third ever massage in an effort to avoid having to go the much more expensive route of doctor's visits and PT all over again (see my previous review). Carolyn did a great job of releasing the tension in my muscles around my knee, my neck, and my lower back. My tension headaches have even disappeared!
Both Carolyn and Loren are good (Carolyn's schedule just happened to work better with my schedule when I made this appointment). They have different styles but both of them are skillful therapists.

After moving to SF a few months ago, I noticed that my skin was changing in all the wrong ways. I was totally frustrated, and needed to do something. After reading the postive reviews on Yelp, I booked a facial with Jenny. It was amazing! My skin was so soft and smooth immediately after, with none of the irritating post-facial red face. Also, over a month later, I can happily report that my skin is looking better than ever! I would absolutely recommend a facial with Jenny to all of my friends!
I've had a lot of massages in my 39 years. Andrew is simply the best. He offers a mix of therapeutic and swedish so you feel like you have been healed and relaxed when you leave. He has an amazing ability to find the spots that are knotted or tight - even if you didn't know it was there. I've never used his acupuncture services but if I needed it, I would not hesitate to go to him first. He is absolutely wonderful. I have a difficult time enjoying any other massage (let's say if I was on vacation), knowing that I'm spending money that I could spend on a massage here in SF with Andrew.
It was a rainy Friday, as I strolled over to Stillpoint, hoping I could find this hidden gem. And there it stood modestly, a surprising sanctuary in this beer bar district. I walked upstairs, the floorboards creaking 'neath the carpet. The scent of sandalwood and mystery wafted over to me - for an instant, I was in Bali- and then it disappeared. I looked about the waiting room, a warm Edwardian parlor. I was the only person there. Or was I? There was a strong presence here, as if company of a distant past was among me. I heard soft voices in the back, and I wasn't quite sure if it was real or imagined. Either way, it was comforting, like a warm embrace from your great-grandma Rose.
Out of nowhere, Jenny arrived for my facial. She was stunning-a petite thing with dark glossy tresses, arresting blue eyes, and a peaches 'n cream complexion. Jenny was beautiful enough to hate...until she flashed a bright smile, and you loved her. There was something special about Jenny, and I couldn't put my finger on it. Perhaps a soft heart or a knowing soul, maybe even a hint of fragility. Whatever it was, I followed Jenny back, hoping to look even an iota like her.
"Hi! Come on back!", she waved.
I'd had a handful of facials in my day, usually with paltry results. Truthfully, I didn't believe that facials made a difference, and I definitely didn't believe that they were worth spending the money. I hated my pores being pricked, or my pocketbook being picked. I'm not sure what made me give it one more try - it's as if Stillpoint and its spirits willed me in there.
"Stillpoint is a very special place. If you stick around long enough, you'll feel a presence", Jenny confirmed. So, there were ghosts. Cool.
Stillpoint couldn't be a more appropriate name. It literally stood still in time, both feet anchored in Queen Anne's glory. There was something assured about Stillpoint, like a mantle clock that knew it would keep ticking steadily. I strolled down the hallway, soaking in the scent of a bygone past. I peered in the yoga room and swore I saw a ghost in lotus position.
My room was also the remnant of another age. From a pretty picture window stood the Golden Gate, ever basking in its majesty. The view that never got old, even if you were old. Like the window, here long before the bridge, or the earthquake. And still standing. Stillpoint standing.
I understood why Stillpoint called itself a Wellness Center. It made me feel not only well, but also centered. Like I was holding the hands of tomorrow on my right, yesterday on my left. And I was there, comfortably between. Jenny, like Stillpoint, was an old soul thrust into a young skin. And young skin was she was about to give me.
But first, the brows. The bane of my existence. I'd only liked my brows twice...ever.
"Alright, they're not going to be perfect today, 'cause we need to grow out a couple areas. Ooh, hold on! There's one out of place. Sorry, I'm a perfectionist!". I loved her already.
Jenny was a study of contradictions. Fresh-faced, yet old-souled. Cooly adept, yet warmly inviting. And her facial, likewise. Aesthetic, yet therapeutic. Jenny could explain the chemical structure of hydroquinone, while kneading life back into my temples. She cleansed my skin, while purifying my soul. And perhaps it was this that made Jenny so special. Not only was she giving my skin, but my whole soul, the TLC it craved. Each dermal act of sadism was balanced by an act of love. No sooner did Jenny extract the demons from my pores, did she calm me with foot shiatsu. There I lay, face swathed in a papaya delight, while Jenny coaxed the worries away from my stiff shoulders. It was as if Jenny channeled my tired energy right out of my body. I was afraid I would burden her with my stress, but her teeny hands took it all in, asking nothing back.
I could barely wake from my zen. Only one thing could make this better, and Jenny knew just what that was. She smiled warmly and handed me a mirror. My skin was glowing like I was sixteen again. And my pores were clean, though I'd never known they weren't. I looked and felt five years younger.
"I hope you enjoyed it!", Jenny wished.
And with that, Jenny and the Stillpoint Spirits bade me farewell.
But as soon as I stepped onto Union Street, I started doubting if my facial had been that good, or was I just sedate from Jenny's hand massage.
And I knew how to find out. Me, at the bar, hours later:
"Hi! The usual, please!"
"One Ketel-soda, on its way! Wow, you must be happy, your skin is glowing!"
And he was right. I was ecstatic. On this night, I ran into my exe. I hadn't seen him since we'd called it quits, and I could've asked for nothing more than him seeing me happy and glowing...without him.
Two days later, my skin still has that ethereal glow. Ethereal like Jenny's healing touch. Ethereal, like the ghosts in the parlor, luring me back from their window.
I just got back from the most wonderful & relaxing facial with Jenny! Taking care of my skin is the ugly stepchild of my beauty regime: I hate it. Jenny was able to talk me and made me feel comfortable the second I walked in...and then gave me such a great facial! I would definitely recommend her to anyone. Period. Anyone that wants to treat herself, anyone that wants to feel great about her skin, and anyone that just deserves an unbelievable facial (which you do, trust me).
She is a fantastic aesthetician. Simply mahhhhvalous.
Andrew is hands down the most amazing massage therapist around. I consider myself a massage connoisseur, having had back pain problems for many years. I have been to many spas around the globe, and always seem to come up with the same results... with a spa you are paying for the ambiance not necessarily the treatment. They can be soothing and relaxing, but not therapeutic. Stillpoint offers all of the above with the benefits of pain relief. If you want a rub, go someplace else. If you are looking for deep tissue therapy, look no further.
I have been in Andrew's trusting hands since 2005. With his recommendation, I started seeing another professional in the office. Bina has been working with my on some related health issues using acupuncture. She is very caring, gently, and clearly knowledgeable in her profession. I highly recommend her to anyone who has suffered ailments that western medicine can't seem to treat without pills.
I am Diana Cohn of the Corner Office and I had the amazing opportunity to come into Stillpoint to train the owners on QuickBooks. Since our business relationship started, I have had several massages from Andrew. I have to tell the world one very important thing, 'Try not to drive anywhere after a massage from Andrew.' Each time he worked on me I was complete jelly afterward; very relaxed, not a bit of stress in my entire body, and I left with a very nice, but sleepy, smile on my face. Excellent, most excellent work. I cannot write a strong enough recommendation for Stillpoint Wellness Center.
Charis is sweet-tempered and a little informal, but highly skilled as an aesthetician. Her facials are relaxing and effective. I like that you can book a 45 min one - I personally go for the extraction "tune-ups" and appreciate that you don't to have to lie there and sit through mask after mask.
She is also very good at eyebrow wax/shaping - she takes the time to observe and then refine slowly.

Charis Castellanos is the best aesthetician in SF. Period. I cannot say enough about her. No superlatives or adjectives will suffice!
I first discovered Charis in 2002, on a recommendation from my then-chiropractor. Charis gave me the most exceptional eyebrow wax of my life. No exaggeration - people were complimenting me! That never happens!
So I decided to go back and book a facial. Mind you, I was skeptical of the facial experience - all the ones I'd ever had left my skin greasy and gave me break-outs. I thought they were a waste of money. But I tried Charis, and it completely CHANGED my skin. The next morning, I woke up, felt my face, and I did not recognize it! My skin hadn't been that smooth, soft, and bump-free since I was, what, twelve? Not only was it a great experience, but I was sold on the importance of regular facials. I am a convert now. Nay, a disciple.
Charis is an absolute artist. She listens to you and customizes skin care products to your skin type. Her facials are practically a spiritual experience, with the calm, floating pace of a tea ceremony. You get an arm, neck and back and SCALP (!!) massage while the products are working. Best of all, Charis is honestly one of the sweetest human beings I've ever known. The experience is so healing and relaxing that it transforms my whole body.
I have converted many, many friends to Charis. They always think I'm exaggerating, but when they get their first Charis facial, they are true believers!
I cannot imagine what I, or my skin, would do without Charis.
Thanks, Andrew, for the amazing massage - it deserves over 5 stars! I booked an appointment with their online system for the next day after seeing the $20 off first-time client special on Yelp. I walked up the stairs to the top level of the old Victorian building in which Stillpoint is located and was greeted by Andrew, the co-owner and certified Shiatsu therapist I booked. He walked me into the beautiful corner room and first talked with me briefly. He was friendly and skilled with his hands. He said that he's been doing this for over 12 years, and he was able to locate exactly all the areas where I was hurting to release the pain. He combined Shiatsu, acupressure, deep tissue, and traditional Chinese medicine techniques into my treatment which was effective and soothing. I was healed in no time! The room was also very calming and tranquil, with the Guanyin and the poem painted on the wall that read like a spell. I left feeling dazed, almost spellbound.
I had a massage with Andrew and he is great. I run a lot and have tight hips and overall soreness. Andrew talked with me to make sure he understood what I was feeling. The place is pleasant and relaxing and I felt very comfortable there.
Andrew worked out particular spots in my legs and back, and stretched me out and gave me recommendations for other at home stretches.
Read Tracy M.'s review, I totally agree with her about Andrew's treatment. I feel a lot better
Charis is amazing.
The Signature Facial left my skin glowing and even.
She doesn't over sell products, but maybe she should. The cleanser, lotion and sunscreen that I purchased are an amazing combination that keep my skin looking great!
I am only giving it 4 stars instead of 5 as I only had a 30 minute massage, but I am sure when I go back to get my full hour I will give it 5 stars! I went in to see Andrew 2 days after running a half marathon. My back and legs were sore, but my back more so. I had so many knots caused my work stress and exacerbated by what was probably bad running posture. Even though I had only 30 minutes (which was all the time I had that day) Andrew was able to work the knots out of my back and shoulders better than other masseuses that I have spent 60-90 minutes with. I sometimes ask for deep tissue because swedish is sometimes too "soft", but I just got a regular massage and the pressure was perfect (i.e, felt like knots and tension was actually being worked out, versus just getting a back rub). I left feeling relaxed, a lot less "knotty" and looking forward to going back again.
Charis goes beyond giving a standard facial. That's why I'll never go anywhere else. I used to go to her for bikini waxes (also amazing by the way) and one day decided to book a facial. You get an arm, neck and back massage while the products are working. Also, she'll recommend products to use that arent crazy expensive - in fact for me she recommended Cetephil -something you can buy in any drug store for $10 bucks. Also she charges less than most other places in the Bay Area, and you get just over an hour for the treatment.
Charis gives an exceptional eyebrow wax. Absolutely perfect. She's also super super sweet and deals very well with wimps with no pain threshold if you need any other kind of waxing...;-)
I used to go to Charis when she was at Berenice...then she went out on her own and I couldn't be happier! She has this great warm and relaxing apartment-like mini salon with her husband, who is a massage therapist, making relaxation easy and simple! She is so meticulous and does such a good job, I swear the waxing doesn't even hurt! Her facials are fantastic, I truly left feeling clean and rejuvenated. Basically, she knows what she's doing and she's good at it!
Love Love Love. I can't say enough about Charis. I've been going to her for over a year now and am so pleased I found someone as sweet and talented as Charis. She is totally professional (even when she's waxing every nook and cranny of my bod..eek) Charis is always on time and quite fast at what she does. Since I've been going to her for so long we have great conversations that take my mind off the pain, even though it's usually minimal. She's suggested a few beauty treatments that have made me look extra hot. They have totally redone their space to include more treatments. If you need a good waxer Charis is the best in The City and trust me I've been/done the uber-expensive spa's and the backrooms at nail salons.
andrew totally rocks. i had an incredible amount of stress built up in my back and shoulders. i heard about him from a friend and decided to go. he has an easy-to-use website appointment system and i got an appointment for the next day. i tend to judge massage therapists heavily on how much i have to communicate verbally with them (e.g. they're going too hard/too soft, they aren't concentrating on the right places, etc.)--i feel like they should be able to tell these things themselves and i can just get down to the business of meditative relaxation while they do their thing. not once did i have to direct him--he knew EXACTLY where the pain was from the feel and focused the right amount of time and energy on the places that needed it the most. his hands were wonderful--warm and dry and very healing. it was a spectacular massage. the setting is nice too--at Rezvan spa. the room was beautiful and peaceful and everything was nice and clean. andrew is highly recommended and i will definitely be going back.
