P.s.
This place has become a monthly habit. I don't want to tell you this, because then you might beat me to them, but Kelly has the CUTEST vintage dresses for really great prices. She does all the work for me so I don't have to spend hours digging through the racks at the big vintage stores I hardly ever walk out of there without something darling to sashay about town in.
secondly, I just bought a tiny working harmonica charm for my necklace. And now my life is complete.

What is the deal with vintage clothing currently? Especially old clothing that doesn't even look vintage.
Browsed around the little store. Looked through the racks. Half the stuff I would never wear. Other quarter is too abstract for me to wear. And the last quarter is a "maybe", depending on price tag.
I didn't check prices, but I did see one old, stenchy shirt for $24. Nothing real special about it. I'm sure there's no sentimental or vintage value to it.
Maybe I went at a bad time. There didn't seem to be anything worthwhile in the store.
Note: I don't know if they changed recently, but the store name on top says CC Riders or something like that. I had to look closely to determine that it was indeed the correct store.
Though Still Life has nothing that would fit me, nor would i attempt skinny jeans or a white belt, Charlie (the owner) has a fucking GOAT HEAD i want hanging in the window.
It taunts me everytime i walk by.
I dont have envy for it.....i covet it.
I covet it the way i coveted my friend's Gen 4 Air Jordans back in like 89.
I covet it the way i coveted my other friend for having a hot sister that walked around in a tshirt and undies all the time.
Charlie is an awesome dude.
Weve had drinks together.
Weve caroused Divis drunkenly, had shots at MiniBar, hes even been to my house and drank on our back deck.
But he refuses to sell me that goat head.
I went in during a very drunk Art Walk....slapped the AmEx on the counter....
"Name your price, citizen....then run it."
"It isnt for sale."
"I said, NAME YOUR PRICE....i want it."
He just laughed, and said no.
He could have sold it to me for $500, i was so drunk, it wouldnt have mattered....but he didnt.
Instead he told me he will pick me up one from the same flea market.
Mad respect for watching out for his goat head, and my wallet.
A red fitted Lacoste polo that makes my chest look fabulous for $26! Sorry, that's a steal considering that these shirts cost about $90 new from Nordstrom or Macy's or where ever you can get a Lacoste polo. Score! I spent about 15 minutes in Still Life prior to getting the rest of my tattoo finished by the wonderful Mike Davis. Yes, Still Life is, literally, a sneeze away from Everlasting Tattoo. So, if you need to kill time, this store is pretty awesome.
Granted, the type of clothing and accessories are not for everyone. There are a lot of prints and vintage pieces as well as clothing that falls nicely in line with current trends (i.e., apron dresses, large print tanks, etc.) but there is something in there for someone looking for something a little different, most definitely. Please note that the store is rather small so ask the nice folks behind the counter to watch your bag behind the counter. You wouldn't want a clumsy moment to occur and have the stuff flying all over the place because you just swung your bag and knocked over the center display. Seriously, it's about 300 square feet (give or take square footage).
I dropped the 5 stars because the people manning the store are sweet, fun to talk to, the clothing is different enough that you feel like you're scoring something rare, and the name referencing art, well, you know my deal -- if you know me.
Meh, whatevs. Maybe just not my style? While it is adorable from the outside and alluring to discover what goodies it might hold, that's where the mystery stops for me. Went in to check this place out and walked out feeling disappointed. Nothing seemed particularly original or worth the price. However I will admit I did not look at the jewelry which seems to be the winner here. But that was mostly because was just not captivated. I've gone into many consignment stores and been much more impressed.
Too bad, so sad. I guess that is what happens when Yelp builds up my expectations.
New favourite boutique - maybe because I'm a lazy bitch & this place is two blocks from me, or maybe because it's just hella hella hella cute.
great local products - I especially love their jewelry. Very tongue-in-cheek, sweet, & creative.
For the cheap bastards out there: this place will give you a major boner for crafting. Like, you will pillage ideas & go home & totally make a knock-off of some starving SF artist's brilliant innovation. Go you.
Found:
amazing all-over hot dog print shirt & matching necklace & little hot dog button bobby pins. I host a night called Buffet at Pink (1st & 3rd Tuesdays, derrr, want a flyer?) & I now have outfits for DAYS.
brown leather high waisted skirt. you are jealous
Want:
these nifty spray painted shoes i've been eyeing
switchblade comb
nifty little bike themed shirts / accessories. if your bike is worth more than all your internal organs on the black market - come here & buy a shirt/bag/giant sign that says "yeah, I ride a fixie, yeah, I buy locally designed clothing from some boutique only I'm cool enough to know about, so what?" Maybe I should get a bike first. Probably, yes.
The owner is a lovely gal, super helpful & obviously passionate about her store, products, & the people who make them. Everyone else is fiendishly cute & personable - the sort of folks that redeem retail.
Major points for cramming a ton of great stuff into a small space in a way that looks absolutely beautiful.
You can almost walk right be Still Life if you're not careful, but that would be your loss. Like a still life, the items here might all be inanimate, even common, but take on their own life once worn or adorned. Think tees and vintage dresses, fun jewelry and assorted hipster trinkets, even some funster baby wear by the front counter.
The space is tiny, mind you, reminds me of one of those boutiques you'd find hidden in Manhattan's Lower East Side, except with prices befitting D-Street.
I first spotted this place when I was drifting between Cafe Abir and Film Yard. I happened to look up and see these amazing vintage pins in the window of an unassuming shop. Being a nerdy pin collector, I knew right away I would like this place.
I walk inside and fall in love with this quaint little vintage shop. It feels like you are entering some awesome stranger's closet because of its intimate size and cool clothes. Based on the store's presentation and their stylish threads, I immediately got the feeling that once I looked at the price tags, I would run for the door. BUT BEHOLD, they are not one of those overpriced vintage stores (HI Wasteland!) that jack up prices for shit they bought from the Good Will. Instead, their clothes (vintage and new), jewelry, and shoes are reasonably priced. I would go as far to say that they are steals!
Instead of scouring Haight, dealing wtih smug clerks, and competing with pretentious fools for some original clothing, head straight to Still Life because they do the hard work for you. They don't discriminate and provide an equal amount of badass clothing for both guys and girls. On top of that, their owner is friendly and helpful (and will actually acknowledge your presence). Woohoo!
Although the store is small, they get new stuff in all the time. The shop just opened in December so come out (if you haven't already) and meet one of the coolest/nicest vintage shops in town.
What a great addition to the neighborhood. Great friendly owners and a very interesting collection of clothes. Newly printed tees and vintage items as well. Some vintage stuff is reasonably priced, where the truly awesome vintage is being sold for those slightly overpriced vintage prices, but when the silk is old, and still in tact, those prices are necessary. Cute handbags, old lady dresses, this place is a fashionable hipsters dream.
And apparently while the shop might belong in the Mission, I'm glad it's helping fancy up Divis. Art studios, clothing shops, new coffee houses and new bars are helping my quaint neighborhood...and the neighborhood celebrities are coming out in full force. Someday, I hope to be one of these said celebrities, with my own contribution as well. Maybe a vintage coffee shop? Is coffee still good after 50 or so years?
It seems like just a few weeks ago the little tailor shop that used to occupy this space was suddenly closed. Being a PRIME location right along the Divisadero Corridor (fingers crossed on this next statement), I was pretty sure it'd be turned around into something cool within a week or two.
Lo & behold, I'm walking down Divis maybe a week later & all of a sudden it's a VINTAGE shop. Not only that, but a vintage shop worthy of some of the better ones in the Upper Haight, although the space is a lot smaller than most of those. Still, small space aside, it's exciting to see yet another storefront window transformed into somebody's dream.
Despite their small stature, Still Life has an extraordinary selection, & it seems like every single thing they've got in stock is exceedingly cool. Not in that annoying "oh jeez, look at this fucking cool store & all the cool shit they're selling, they're so COOOOL", but in a totally understated, approachable way, where each item on the racks seems to tell a story.
Not only that, but the owners have been living in the 'hood for a decade, & are the nicest people you'll ever meet.
Divisadero needs more places like Still Life.
Still Life is a tiny little ultra hipster clothing boutique in NOPA on Divisadero, all the way down by the Blue Jay Cafe. I like to stop by on the weekends just to see what they have since their vintage selection always changes. While I've never found any vintage pieces to buy there, the jewelry selection is very cute, and I tend to walk away with something, whether a ring or feather earrings. If you're an indie fashionista who wants to stay on top of the retro chic trends, Still Life will definitely help you out.
This is a new store, very cozy, extremely well-designed and merchandised.
The feel is antique with a gothic victorian twist. The jewelry and accessories they offer come from an array of what I believe to be independent online retailers. The shirts are hot off the presses though unfortunately cater to a more slim clientele.
The price range is very affordable, I can only hope they have a lot of turnaround in merch. Great store, very unique!
I love Still Life!! It's a great place to find unique gifts, ( I got my sister some jewelry there, and shes already asking for it on her birthday as well.) The clothing for both men & women is fabulous, everything looks one of a kind.
The store is set up really cute, and Kelly the owner is a real sweet thing!!
Definitely check it out, even if it is not in your hood, It's worth traveling to :-)
Um, pretty tight! There is a fridge there and Kelly might show you what is in it if you ask her.

They try to get you drunk so you'll buy more clothes. And it works, by god, it works.
I seriously probably walked by this place ten times before I took the time to look inside and wondered when this rad store had opened two blocks from my house? I then realize I maybe need to get my IPOD out of my ears and look around sometimes, because it had been there for like a month and I was oblivious. They have rad patches, cool vintage clothes, an an eclectic array of hipster garb, a garden variety of antique weirdo doo-dads, all set in a charming, incognito shop on Divis. right by the 821. Both the guy and the girl who work here are super friendly hipster types, but so unpretentious and genuine, they listen to good music and are a total welcome addition to the neighborhood. Still Life only been here a short while and they keep getting new shit, and I keep spending money! Highly recommended!!
Still life is a very unique boutique in the nopa neighborhood, I highly recommend checking it out. Kelly is awesome, she is super nice:)
This cozy little store has all the fun of rummaging through the flea market without the kicking-myself-because-I-forgot-my-hand-sanitizer feeling. The stylish owners did the all digging so that I can waltz in there and browse through the vintage and new threads with ease. The weathered photos, bric-a-brac and art pieces really make me feel like I have stumbled upon a hidden treasure while on a road trip, not in the middle of a busy SF street. A great place to pick up a cool gift for your someone...even if you weren't looking!
How exciting! I finally made my way to Still Life even though I'd driven past it a million times on my way to work and drooled over the stuff they had in the windows. But it's even better on the inside. Sure it's a bit pricey but what vintage store this day isn't?? The woman working there was sweet but didn't bug you as you shopped around. I found a sweet brown shirt with deer antlers on it for my brother (he digs the "hunter" look) and their jewelry and purse selection is so so SO rad. I was tempted to buy almost every piece but my empty wallet stopped me. Luckily for Still Life, I got paid today and I will be stopping in after work. Divis needs more clothing shops like this!
What a welcome addition to the Western Addition. I was saying to a friend about a month or so before Still Life opened how Divis needed a cute clothing store. Then up pops Still Life a cute, quaint clothing store with a perfect blend of vintage clothing and new clothing from local artists/vendors. Great concept. Even better service! I scored a fabulous burberry scarf there for $12. I will be back.
Taxidermied elk head on the wall, check. Jewelry made from colorful feathers that the kit-cat will doubtlessly figure out how to get his paws on, check. Local designers' fresh goodies and rare finds from flea markets, check check. If I opened a little shop, it would be exactly like this. There's something here for everyone, and it's smack in the middle of bars and cafes so it's worth the trip even if you're not from around the corner.
I really like this store. Luckily, I live right around the corner so I can stop by and check frequently for new things. It's a tiny space, but the selection is pretty good and she tries to change it up fairly frequently. I've gotten several really cute vintage dresses from there for under 30 dollars each and I also got a kick ass pair of leather boots for 25 bucks. I'm glad that there are businesses like this opening up in my hood because I'm a lady of convenience and it's great having a little shop nearby that sells cute things!
i had the privilege of meeting kelly through stuart and she is one bad ass woman. her store has got some of the neatest garb for both dudes and ladies. i love her style and the way the store is laid out -- it can seem a bit cramped but its kind of amazing how much stuff she fits in. the window displays are always super charming and hilarious -- i seem to walk by when she's closed and i always stop and look. i'm always looking to see if i can get something for myself but i haven't found the right thing yet. hopefully i will soon cause i'm dying to support this girl. she runs this store and the indie mart almost all by herself and she's well loved among the design community. come support this awesome business. long live still life!
Awesome new shop. I second George R's comment about the way Divisidero st is changing. I am hoping more places like this and Big Umbrella will keep the street feeling like home. I am not much of a vintage guy but the selection of t-shirts and other locally designed mens clothes will def keep me checking back in regularly. Nice graphic Tees. Not flashy "streetwear" stuff, but more understated and unique designs. The woman who runs the place was a sweetheart to boot. The womans stuff looked great as well but I didn't get a chance to really look at it closely.
This place is dinky, but don't be deceived, it packs a wallop of eclectic new and vintage stuff. Bought me a shirt that got me a compliment from the cool guy in my office--finally!!! For all the changes that has me fearing for Divisadero, its small stores like this that make me realize that some change is good.
this is the cutest little shop. it's small but filled with the best of the best. there is a wide variety of mens and womens vintage pieces. it has very affordable price points and feels warm and homey. the layout is simple and has it's own unique indentity, with old tables, nic nacs, and various other eye catching pieces. the service is the exact type of service you would like everywhere you go. kelly, the owner, is kind and helpful. looking for some interesting, classic vintage garments.....look no further, still life is your destination!
