This is my go-to spot in Grand Central Market. The service can be a little mixed, but likely a little gruff due to the volume of customers. I've had my usual go to's here -- chicken pad thai, pad see ew, chicken stay, panang curry and papaya salad. My favorite of the dishes was the pad see ew with tofu and vegetables.
There is some great high top counter seating, and nearby tables as well. For drinks, go for the fresh coconut to have some fresh coconut water. They hack the coconut right before your eyes!Helpful 4Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Mar 2, 20241 check-in
The Grand Central market is a melting pot of cultures, cuisine and truly reflects and represents LA county. Inside you can find Sticky Rice, where freshly made Thai food is served.
There's bar seating directly across from the chefs preparing the many orders received, as well as neighboring tables all over the venue.
I had the PadSiew with chicken and a side of their dessert. Mango sticky rice. The PadSiew Is packed generously with sweet flat rice noodles, egg, tender chicken breast, and leafy greens like gai-lan. They don't overly sweeten or salt this dish, which is good but it's lacking some flavor. The veggies also were tougher to chew looked a little older as it was yellowing.
However the mango sticky rice was so delicious and really fresh. It's pre-packed so the rice isn't warm, but even so it still holds the soft and chewy texture it should have. The mangoes are ripened and sweet. The coconut cream is just to die for, I wish I could buy a whole bottle of it.Helpful 1Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Joe N.CA, CA02Jan 15, 2024
Had to bust out yelp for sticky rice. I wouldn't touch this place with a 100 foot pole after the experience we had here.
To start with the food, this is the worst Thai spot I've had in LA. Period. It is expensive for absolutely no reason. I ordered the Moo Ping and was beyond disappointed. Flavorful is the last word I would use to explain the pork. I felt like a dog barking down on that piece of meat it was so over cooked. I wish I took a photo to show the portion sizes. It's absolutely disgusting when considering the price. If you're not from whoville and you enjoy normal sized food, maybe don't let sticky rice be your next meal. I tried my girlfriends shrimp fried rice and it tasted like a struggle meal I used to make growing up. It's good for grain and protein, nothing more. This dish progressively became less consumable each bite. There was so much sodium in it I felt like I was about to spit out salt water. Please do not eat here. I hear the other location in Echo Park is more legit but I'm not about to find out.
Now all that aside, the service was surprisingly even WORSE than the food! POC might want to avoid this spot. My girlfriend who is a black women tried to order a Thai tea with her shrimp fried rice and was sadly informed that they had run out of Thai teas. When we were walking back with a beverage from a nearby spot we saw the same cashier serve a Thai tea to a white women who was behind us. It was absolutely disgusting. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, my girlfriend kindly asked what the deal was with that, and the cashier, half listening while attending to something else said "sorry we don't have anymore Thai tea" while the women she just served one to was standing right next to us drinking it waiting for her food. It definitely left a sour taste in our mouths. And then the food left a nasty taste in our mouths. Then the price left a hole in our wallets. The entire experience left a daunting depression that has continued to linger almost 24 hours later. You couldn't pay me to eat here again. If you make the poor mistake we did, I would hit the nearest CVS in a jiffy and down as many laxatives as you can to get sticky rice out of your system.Helpful 2Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 1 - 63680Dec 2, 2023
If you're in the area and in the food to try Thai food, this is the spot!
The crab fried rice was to die for! Decent amount of crab, and it doesn't over any of the other flavors. It's light and fresh but still authentic. I would highly recommend!
I also tried to the chicken pad Thai. This was also a solid choice, but a bit too sweet for my liking.
Overall, a good sized portion and amazing taste and quality. I would highly recommend!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - 4715162306Sep 18, 2023
Yumm Yumm Yumm! I had to wait quite a while for my Crying Tiger Steak to come out, but it was soo worth it! The meat was absolutely delicious! I didn't want to share any of it with my friend. They gave some pickled veggies and fresh veggies as well. I am soo thankful they separated the pickled veggies because I hate vinegar and it didn't get the taste on anything else. I understand why the name is Sticky Rice because they make really good, really sticky rice.
I ate every last bite (minus the pickled veggies) and I was full to the brim, but I have no regrets about it. This is definitely a place I would come back to often if I lived in the area.Helpful 6Thanks 0Love this 4Oh no 0 - 271160102Oct 25, 2023
This place is so solid every time I go. Pad krapow is my favorite, but the hainan chicken rice is also quite good. It's a generous portion for a place within the grand central market. The krapow is probably a Thai medium spicy which is a nice simmering fire in your mouth that build as you eat.
Service is quick. The wait also goes by faster because they are doing all the cooking in front of you which is fun to watch while you wait /eat.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Olivia H.North Ridgeville, OH23517Apr 16, 2024
way too expensive for street food. quality is average, not bad not too excellent make me want to come back. The worse is the enviroment, loud and noise and dirty and downstair restroom. If I pay that price I would prefer tosit in a fine diner resturant. Dom Yum soap is way to sour, not my style.

Gai Yang from Sticky Rice is my new favorite Thai food.
So very simple, yet packed with the perfect flavors and textures. Absolutely delicious.
Sally at Six Taste Tours (a foodie walking tour) brought our group here, and I am forever grateful.
I'll be back!Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Jul 28, 2023
Looking for a tasty dinner while at Cal Plaza so headed to Grand Central Market to grab something to go. Wound up at Sticky Rice and settled on the Rotisserie chicken bowl. Well prepared and very tasty. Nice touch with over-easy egg on top. Price was $20.
They have a large variety of offerings including beverages and desserts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 1Oh no 0 - Aug 2, 2023
Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food in Grand Central market!! Ordered the pad kee mao (drunken noodles) and it was one of the best ones I've ever had because they put so many different kinds of veggies in it! Mushrooms, baby corn, tomatoes, carrots, bell peppers, Chinese broccoli, bean sprouts, basil, onions! Some restaurants are so skimpy with the veggies, but not Sweet Rice. The taste of the sauce was really good too. $15 for this was worth it.
It's located across Wexler's and McConnells ice cream. They have seats in front of the stall just for customers.
Grand central market charges $4 for 90 min of parking, and $2 per 15 min thereafter. There's 10 levels of parking.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
