I can't speak for the Inn, but the restaurant at Stevenswood was awesome.  My boyfriend and I ate there on Saturday evening and had the endive salad, crab cake, the lamb noisettes, and the strawberry torte thing for dessert.  The portions were pretty small, but the flavors and service were impeccable.  I'd like to call our waiter Old McDonald, but won't because he was pretty young.  He might as well have been serving in an upscale San Francisco establishment given how professional and friendly he was.

Apparently the chef here hails from Azul in San Francisco (forgive me if I'm incorrect here).  He just started at Stevenswood about a month ago.  He was kind enough to greet us at the end of the meal.  Nice job, chef!

Well, this tells you a lot if this is one of the best restaurants in Mendo. Picky can't be choosy.

We had our V-Day dinner here ($99 per person) and here were the courses with comments:

(1) Marin Bay Oyster and Pearls - beetroot, yuzu, horseradish. I thought it was decent, however, I'd rather taste the freshness and quality of the oyster itself and not have the other flavors such as horseradish downplay it.

(2) Butter poached Maine lobster - hints of Meyer lemon, avocado dumplings, white aspargus, and radish. My fave course of the evening. Everything was nicely done, nothing overwhelming, great flavors.

(3) Rabbit and carrot - with wild arugula and sunchoke ice cream. I have to hand it to the chef for being creative with a rabbit and ice cream. However, it did not work.

(4) Pumpkin and shellfish - pickled black chanterelles and sorrel. It was not memorable.

(5) American Wagyu beef striploin - with celery root and cherry jus. I liked it, but it could have been better cooked medium-rare. Mine was slightly towards the medium side. The jus was not doing it for me either.

(6) S'more for two. Cool presentation with the camp fire aroma but taste-wise, the ice cream was better than the S'mores themselves. I would have cooked the marashmallows for the authentic S'more taste.

Overall, it was good and I enjoyed the chef's innovativeness. I would not class this as being one of the best meals I had though.

Service was mixed. Our sommelier did not come through until our third course and our still water bottles were not opened at our table.

They do serve a decent breakfast here for those who are interested.

Three stars.

Exceptional restaurant. Very very nice and attentive staff, very good quality food. Breakfast; the Tuscan scramble was very good. One disappointing part is that the French Press is only a French Press at night. In the morning it's a standard drip coffee in a French Press container. It looks pretty but doesn't have that great French Press taste. The OJ tasted store bought instead of fresh squeezed which was also disappointing. Dinner though was 5 stars! We ate there two nights in a row and loved it. The specials seem to change but the heirloom tomato appetizer was phenomenal as was the tenderloin. Great wine list. FYI - If you are staying at the Inn, buy the wine in room and pay the corkage... Less expensive, many of the same great wines.

My GF and I were staying at Stevenswood and ate here on the 2nd night during a 3 day trip to Mendocino. My GF had some raw oysters from Washington for the appetizer and prawns & risotto w/a pinot sauce for the entre. The oysters were very fresh but the prawns were a bit overcooked and the pinot sauce overwhelmed the dish. I had the medium sized crab cake, which was excellent - there was just a little panko to hold it together, but I hardly noticed. It seemed like only fresh crab to me. I also had the halibut w/mussels and clams in a light cream sauce, which was also excellent.  The food went well with the excellent and fairly priced bottle of Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparking wine that we also ordered.  The price for the meal was reasonable and the food very good overall.  Cafe Beaujolais is sitll my favorite in Mendocino.  So, I wouldn't make a special trip just to eat at Stevenswood, but if you're in the area for more than a day it's definitely worth a visit.

Dined here since we stayed here as well...  (Super convenient for those lazy after a 4+ hour drive...)  Choice of 3, 4 or 5 courses for dinner.  K and I both had 3 courses (plus an amuse of a soup, can't remember, but if I remember correctly, it was roasted tomato soup) and we both enjoyed our dinner very much.  I had the duck  (delicious and perfectly cooked) and he had the scallops.  Can't remember what I had for my first course or for dessert (perhaps some yummy poached mixed berry thing w/ ice cream), but I do remember that K had a foie gras terrine for his first course and a chocolate terrine for dessert.

Despite the fact that I can't recall exactly WHAT I had to eat, I DO remember that it was delicious...  I'll have to look back at my pictures to refresh my (preggo) memory.

My husband and I dined here primarily because http://www.dinerborker... was offering a 30% discount for week nights.  The other reviews are pretty accurate: this place is not cheap, the portions are small, but the food is delicious. Our only complaint was that for Mendocino the place felt very "sterile".  We are used to the homey converted house type restaurants staffed by quirky locals.  The staff were very young, mostly transplants, the dining room was nice, but forgettable.  The food saved the experience, it was divine.  We probably won't be back, we go to Mendocino for the quirkyness and quaintness of the town, not to be wowed in an exclusive resort  kind of way.

Food and service was great here.  But it is a place where you pay alot of a small sized portion on your dish.

Claims to be "as good as San Francisco's finest"... finest what, they didn't say. Truly terrible food served awkwardly... and you might want to check your bill, we ordered 4 items and they managed to over charge us by $67. Addition can get mighty tricky I guess. Save yourself the hassle and enjoy some really great food and attentive service down the street at Moose's Cafe.
