3 reviews for Steven Singer Jewelers
If I'd written this review a couple of years ago, I'd definitely have given Steven Singer one star. However, over time, I've gotten over the mix ups and am left with just my ring itself, which I actually do love. My engagement ring is a family heirloom and due to its design, there was no other option than to have a wedding band custom made. The salespeople in SS assured me that they could make something fantastic that would match, even going so far as to say they could match not only the design of the etching on the side, but also the wear of the etching, as it's a little worn off after all these years. Everything seemed great. They were friendly, patient, validated parking, and didn't pressure us into anything out of our price range (we also got my husband's wedding band there).
Then things went downhill. The time when I was supposed to hear from them came and went and I'd gotten no call. I gave them a little bit of time in case they were just backed up, but my wedding date was quickly approaching. So I called them. Whoops! They forgot to make my ring. So then they put a rush on the job -- and rushed it was. I was really not happy with the end result at all. They didn't even do the etching that they were so excited about getting right and the "vents" (the little spaces under the diamonds) were all lopsided and uneven. There was also an area that clearly needed to be sanded down. I was pretty furious and you know their idiotic motto "I hate Steven Singer!"? Well, I really did hate them....with a passion. I wasn't sure if I was overreacting and expecting too much, so I actually took my ring into another jeweler and casually asked what they thought of the craftsmanship and they agreed that it looked rushed and told me to call SS and have them fix it. So I did.
At this point, they were really nice, helpful, apologetic. I took my ring back and the jeweler worked on it all day and I was able to pick it up the same day. He talked to me himself (usually you just deal with the salespeople) and made sure that I was happy with the end result, which I was. So even though there was a pretty serious flub on their part, they did bend over backwards to fix it. It's all water under the bridge now and no one can even tell that my wedding band wasn't made at the same time as my 1920s engagement ring.
So would I recommend them after all of that? Yeah, I think so. Just give yourself plenty of time before your wedding date because they are extremely busy in there and it seems that things sometimes get overlooked. But based on how committed they were to making sure I was happy in the end, I think that's a good sign.

I really do hate Steven Singer. Seriously.
Snazzy ads aside - what a terribly fake place! Phony to the 'nth degree squared. From the salespeople to the sales tactics, it is probably one of the most disingenuous jewelry stores I've ever experienced. (the first review by Linda M. two years ago is still accurate to every last little detail) I felt uncomfortable from the moment I stepped inside this establishment.
Warm chocolate cookies and free bottled water did not make me want to return to this place. My DH and I went to the diamond district (without recommendations, first mistake!) to look at wedding bands.
From the moment we came in, we were hustled around like cattle and fawned over in the most Red-bull fueled insincere manner. The place was packed, the staff was young (and trained in artifice), overeager, bordering on shrill. Everyone was getting the same song and dance - and offered the same generic selection of items.
Even after we told them our limited budget they kept pushing the most expensive items on us. This coupled with their oily car salesman maneuvers made me instantly dislike the place and the people that worked there.
We had to fight to leave; after they bad-mouthed all the other local businesses (telling us that we wouldn't get better deals than what they could offer) we quickly made an exit for the door and left without looking back.

Steven Singer did have a couple of pluses, that's why I gave it a jsut a couple of stars. When you walk in, they did have people making sure that everyone was waited on. And...they did offer you something to drink. They also did have a decent selection of wedding bands. However, the reason they are only getting two stars from me is because of their sales tactics. It was the old, let's say your name multiple times, let's make eye contact and shake your hand, let's pretend I care by asking questions about your wedding while being VERY phony, let's ask where you live so I can gauge your income level. Let's check out your engagement ring so I know if you're worth my time. (She was upset b/c I wasn't wearing mine) Then when we say we've just started looking and want to walk around a bit more....the girl rolls her eyes and walks off in a huff to get her manager. All her fake interest was completely wasted on us. Yeah, Shawna, I'm talkin' about you! I felt like I needed a shower when I left. One of the rings there was one of our top three.....but we chose from the other two just because we didn't want to go back in there. ick!
