One of the Business' Favorite Reviews What's This?
Man, I never thought I'd say this but I love this dental practice. I love them!
I wear a mouthguard at night because I grind my teeth like crazy. And those things are kind of expensive, and so of course I had one made (at Dr. Lim's suggestion) and then after about two weeks of nightly use, my dog ate it. No, he really ate it. It was toast.
But I'd saved the molds of my mouth, so they cut me a huge break on the price of a replacement. That was really cool of them.
Anyway, after the baby was born, I went in for X-rays and a cleaning and exam. I have to take Saturday appointments now, so Dr. Kim is my new dentist. And she found that I had a small hole in this old filling I had done a few years ago at a sketchy, scary chop shop dental office in Beverly Hills.
Now, let's get one thing straight--thanks to a traumatic childhood experience, I am terrified of dental work. Petrified. Horrified. I hate the sounds, smells, sights, you name it. But I also know that when it comes to your teeth, prevention is everything. If you have a problem and you put it off, before you know it you'll be wearing mail-order dentures and gumming soft food and remembering wistfully what it was like to eat a fresh, crisp apple.
So I made the appointment and couldn't stop thinking about it and I avoided sugary foods for the two weeks between my cleaning and the filling repair because I was so scared of causing enough decay to necessitate a root canal, a procedure I have never experienced but is often used as a watermark of horrible experiences, as in, "I'd rather have a root canal than go on another date with that guy."
The appointment day came and I got on the F and was kind of a nervous wreck the whole ride over from Brooklyn. Sat back in the chair and decided quickly, with encouragement from Dr. Kim, that it would be a good idea to put headphones on and listen to Pelican at full volume. And there was drilling and and there was water and there were scary sounds and a little pressure and then it was over in about 20 minutes and I realized two things:
1.) Modern dentistry is AWESOME. Lasers and water and painless needles and topical numbing gel and even the drill was quieter than I expected. Imagine having that done with a foot-pedaled drill like our grandparents did? Oh my God.
2.) Dr. Kim is a really great dentist. Like Dr. Lim, she is gentle and knowledgeable and puts up with my ridiculous phobias with a lot of grace. Did I mention that I love this dental practice?
The prices were totally fair but even if they hadn't been, I'd go back in a second. I cannot recommend these wonderful dentists and their lovely staff highly enough. No matter which doctor you see, you won't be disappointed. And I say this as a person who would sooner have a root canal than...well, you get the idea.

I went to Dr. Lim office on based on many of yelp's recommendation. I haven't been to a dentist in over 2 years so I was expecting the worse first off. I get into the office, where it had a TV in the lobby nice sitting area with so far pleasant people.
So about 5 mins after my arrival I am called to fill to take some x rays of my teeth, before seeing Dr. Kim (who i see later on). After the x rays are done, Dr. Kim comes in & puts on a screen in front me displaying the xrays of my teeth. I was impressed by her through attitude to explain things to me in lamen terms & that she would actually take the time to educate me about my teeth instead of general scolding I am accustom to from prior dentists. So after about 45 minutes of cleaning which was PAIN FREE (to me at least) my mouth felt wonderful, kinda fresh even (not mouth water fresh) but all the crap that accumulated in 2 years had been removed. She has been so far the best dentist i have ever had & I was impressed overall with the technology, her attentiveness, even her gentle technique of handling my mouth. I fully expected 45 mins to 90 mins of pure pain. But it was the opposite totally exceptional & refreshing to have a dentist actually care & educate instead about rushing you in & out to get the insurance invoice billed. As corny as it sounds Ive been made a believer of Dr. Lim's office.
I went to Dr Lim on Yelp's recommendation and I absolutely agree, his office rocks! Thank you fellow yelpers :)
New patients fills in all the standard paperwork on-line BEFORE your visit so there really is no extra long wait for you to be seen. They seem to be very technologically advanced as well because every question I had for them came with a little video for me to watch. The one time I had to wait more than 5 min, they plugged in their Apple TV and put on a movie for me to watch. All very good tactics that help put stressed dental patients at ease.
Ok, I just had to follow up. I had to have a crown put on, and a filling. So I used a female dentist at Dr. Lim's office (he's not covered by Guardian HealthNet).
She rocked! I totally forget her name tho. Sorry. She was really excellent, and even the dental assistants were really nice. I was super psycho nervous and they gave me this squishy ball thing to squeeze while it was done.
They are really punctual and very professional and informative. My teeth look great and I will definitely be going for my regular cleanings and checkups!

I thought whether I should post a negative recommendation because that is not who I am. But I think it is my job to let others know my experience and I would be doing a disservice to readers if I did not post.
I went to this office based on Yelp recommendation.
Their quote for a cap was $1500, about 3 times what I should have had to pay as part of any dental plan. Long story short instead of paying around $400 which is what I will end up for this treatment, they wanted $1500 from me.
I am disappointed and it was a waste of an afternoon. Will not be visiting this dentist anytime in the future.
Their dentist is polite but at the end of the day they are all about making money and screwing unsuspecting clients.
If I had not known better, I would have overpaid $1000 more than I need to pay for the treatment.
Should have listened to my friend and not gone out of my way
After my previous dentist performed a shoddy bonding job and exhibited poor bedside manner (resulting in the unnecessary and unexpected removal of a part of my canine tooth), I wasn't going to take any chances on my next dentist. I did my research and Dr. Stephen Lim's office stood out above all the others.
My first experience was a check-up and cleaning with Dr. Kim. She was very patient and carefully went over all my dental information with me, using photographs of my teeth taken with an intra-oral camera to illustrate. As a visual person, this was immensely helpful in aiding my understanding! She assured me that the bonding job on one of my front teeth can definitely be fixed, and I made an appointment to have it completed.
Because of scheduling conflicts, I made an appointment with Dr. Lim instead. I told him that I was nervous because the same procedure had been botched twice by my aforementioned previous dentist, and he did his best to assure me and let me know everything that was going on. When the bonding was completed, the front of the tooth looked completely natural and I couldn't even tell there had been work done! Everyone I've shown it to has said the same. There was some roughness on the back of the tooth, and Dr. Lim was happy to polish it down for me. He also informed me that if I found any problems with the bonding, I can go back and get it fixed for free. But so far, so good!
Overall, Dr. Lim was very considerate and I could tell that he derives a lot of personal accomplishment from his handiwork. I would recommend him to all my friends. He has definitely restored my faith in dentists!
Yesterday was my birthday and I recieved an automated phone call from Dr. LIm's office, that consisted of a chorus of children singing me happy birthday. I hung up after the first "happy birthday to you" but it reminded me that I needed to leave a review for this place that I went to a year ago.
The office is NICE and the equpiment HIGH END and MODERN.
That is the only nice thing I have to say about this dental practice.
When I went for my first cleaning, they first needed to do x-rays (I don't normally allow xrays, but this time, since the office was so nice and modern, I decided not to put up a fight). They have one of those machines that circles your head-- the problem is the technician must have been in training because she did not set it up right and I had to DUCK because it almost HIT ME. She received a quiet and stern scolding from the other technician. I should have walked out right then but, stupidly, I stayed. (strike one)
Dr. Lim is a very busy man, apparently, and he whisks his way in and out of patient rooms. I don't recall the cleaning by his assistant (I'm sure it was fine), but when he stopped in briefly to check me out he had no comments except for "slight interior crowding" -- which is not news to me. Strange he had nothing else to say since the dentist I had been to 6 months previous said I had a tooth that was about to develop a cavity. Oh well, Dr. Lim is very busy with his over-booked patients, so he is not going to make a comment about something that trival. (strike two)
The reason I went to do this cleaning in the first place was because my top central incisor was chipped in a bike accident when I was 11 years old, and the tooth was aesthetically repaired with resin. However after 10 years since my last repair, the resin had understandably worn down and I needed (out of vanity) someone to redo it. I wanted someone good and Yelp told me Dr. Lim was great. Too bad he sucks! This was a cosmetic procedure, and I didn't mind paying $300 out of pocket, but could he have at least made the tooth appear straight and normal like the central incisor next to it? Nope. It's slanted and lopsided. A sculptor, Mr Lim is not. (strike three)
Sure, the lop-sidedness is not visible to the average person I come in contact with every day, but since this was a COSMETIC procedure, it was meant to make ME happy. It did not. Nothing Mr. Lim and his team did made me happy.
Wasted money. Annoyed.
One extra star for his beautiful, high-end office. Hopefully, one day, his practice will grow to be as impressive as his machines and flat screen tvs.
After many many years of avoiding the dentist, I finally had to go. My wisdom teeth were poppin out and they needed to leave asap.
I went through yelp looking for a location near my work and came across Dr. Lim. He's reviews were great so I called and scheduled an appt.
I have no regrets going there. The place is small but nice and clean.
The equipment is state-of-the-art and current. And the service is impeccable!
After a quick run with the xrays then sat me down for the cleaning. The cleaning was quick and painless. After showing me my xrays and explaining everything going on in my mouth, Dr. Lim and the team told me my options. And I scheduled my extraction 3 weeks later.
So 3 weeks later I'm back and i'm there to get all 3 of my wisdom teeth out. I've heard horror stories up to now so I'm imagining the worse (i.e. pain, swelling, possible bleeding, etc). Well I think 1.5/2 hours later, I was perfectly fine, wasn't swollen like a squirrel and barely any pain. I ended up having to have 1 of my teeth cracked into pieces and that took extra time but for having gone through that I left the office the same way I came in, by myself without any pain (just 3 teeth less).
During the recovery, I never swoll up, I only ended up taking the pain killers for 2 days and when I went back in to check on how it was healing they said I was healing just fine.
Honestly, I wish I was still going to Dr. Lim but the last time I checked he wasn't In-Network with METLIFE so I'm moving on.
Good news: I -did- get the gold cap on my molar. Totally sweet. I'm chewin' it old-school.
Bad new: Dr. Cho moved on to his own practice elsewhere in Manhattan.
Good News: A friend went to Stephen Lim's, had a different dentist, and had a great experience. So no worries.

Having had so much previous dental work done, I was very attached to my old dentist back where my parents live, but after my dad's dental insurance changed, I had to find a new dentist in Manhattan.
My first visit to the office was for a root canal, and I thought I was only going in for a preliminary meeting to discuss and look at it. The endodontist Dr. Han dove right in though and without pain, I was finished in less than an hour (mind you, this was on a molar)! With prescriptions for Vicodin and antibiotics in hand, I was off on my merry way. I had some mild pain immediately after, but that wore off by night. Getting the post and the crown were also surprisingly fast.
The office utilizes a lot of new technology. Dr. Lim uses laser drills, which are so quick and pain-free that you don't even need Novocain. The x-rays are also done digitally, so you don't have to sit there waiting for them to process them by hand.
I hear he does great cosmetic procedures as well. I had a monroe piercing, and the hole never fully closed after I took it out, but he says he can use a laser to re-open the hole so it can close. Anyway, I highly endorse Dr. Lim's office. Even the wait was bearable (thanks to the Today Show and Martha Stewart).
I stick to my two prior reviews, but I still think this practice is worth it. After Dr. Lim, who isn't even my dentist, read my review on yelp, he contacted me via yelp and personal email to make amends with what will be referred to as The Machete Cleaning.
He/his practice was/were extremely sincere and responsive to the things I said (a bit more eloquently in a formal email) and even offered a fee-credit for my cleaning towards any future co-pays AND a free Oral-B Triumph toothbrush.
I haven't been back yet, but I have an appointment scheduled in April and will continue to go back for a long time coming. Dr. Park, you rock! Dr. Lim, too.

So, I complain about dentists because I feel like it's a scam: you NEVER here a dentist say that you have no cavities. And then Dr. Lim proved me wrong! Unfortunately, it' my husband that has the perfect teeth (which were fawned over, hmph). I had 3 cavities, one which even needed a root canal. Still, the visit was very pleasant, except for the visual I got of half my tooth gone (said root canal) on the monitor. I have to go back for my crown, and will give you an update.
I am only giving 4 stars, because you do have to be a bit careful with the bill: make sure you are getting charged your insurance companies negotiated rate for the service, and make sure you follow the insurance companies rules (I have to go on one day for the "build up" and another day to get the crown, or else it is not covered).
Update: So, that initial review was almost exactly a year ago. (Yes, I write reviews in e-mail and then save it until I have several to post. This one slipped through the cracks). So, I went back in June and got the crown. It was as pleasant as a dentist visit could possibly be. The first few days there was some pain when I bit down- I went back and Dr. Lim shaped it- apparently it was slightly too high and caused too much pressure. It's been about 6 months now- and it would take me a while to even tell you which tooth has a crown: it is completely innocuous and I can hardly feel it at all!
I went back 2 weeks ago for my regular checkup, and I am happy to report that I am a one with no cavities right now! (Tip: use ACT or other fluoride mouthwash- especially for those with a sweet tooth like me!)
I found Dr. Stephen Lim and Associates by searching online. He had 90 reviews on Dr Oogle.
I love his office! Located in midtown, it's easy for me to get to from work. Julie and the other members of his staff are very friendly and helpful. The office is very tech-savy - flat panel TVs on the walls and tiny cameras to take and display pictures of your teeth instantly. I don't know much about pricing, but I do know that his office accepts most insurances. My provider is MetLife.
My first visit was to replace a filling and address the sensitivity of my teeth, which popped up every now and then but was really bad a week straight. Dr. Stephen Lim was the first dentist to accurate diagnose the problem. Others had told me that I was brushing my teeth too hard, causing the gums to recede. After examining my teeth and bite, he told me I must grind my teeth at night based on the wear of my teeth. I had braces, so my teeth are straight; however, my bite does not match up perfectly so I can move bottom jaw side to side even when I bite down. This friction was wearing down my enamel and putting pressure on my gums, causing the sensitivity. He recommend a night guard, which was a bit costly for someone who just moved to New York after graduating from college, but it was the best money I'd ever spent because I haven't had a problem since.
Dr. Park is great as well. She examined a chipped tooth and did a bond in what felt like 5 minutes. I stepped in the office, had my tooth fixed, and walked out in less than 50 minutes. I prefer still Dr. Lim though because he's more thorough in his explainations which is helpful to someone as crazy about teeth and oral hygiene as I am.
He doesn't do cleaning, but his associates are great. I feel bad for not remembering her name, but I've had my teeth cleaned twice and both times it felt amazing, a good deep clean. I have gotten cleanings regularly my entire life, and Dr. Stephen Lim's office is the best.
The longest I've ever waited was 30 minutes, but it was a bad day for them. Most of the time, I get to see someone within 10-15 minutes of my appointment.
Upon my first visit to Dr. Lim I was quite impressed (awesomely modern office, flat-screen TVs, informative and polite staff). Other reviewers who talk about how descriptive Dr. Lim and his assitants are about telling you what it is they are doing inside your mouth and why they are doing it...they're right. I felt like I was listening to a play-by-play about my mouth!
My second visit was to remove/replace an old filling that had started to decay. When I had this filling done the first time, it was quite painful and never allowed me to be completely pain-free in the tooth since. So, I was naturally apprehensive about having it messed with again. However, the procedure that Dr. Lim performed himself took 20 minutes and was completely pain free. I was shocked, and then two days later the tooth felt like new. Dr. Lim did a great job.
The only reason I am not giving him 5 stars is because I've felt rushed through my visit each time. Not in the procedure by any means, but in the greeting, initial cleaning, and afterwards. Sort of like "Hi I'm Dr. Lim here is your new filling, goodbye." Maybe I'm being picky, but I felt more like a cow being moved through the warehouse than a real patient at times. But, as I said, the actual dental work has been great and exceeded my expectations.
First of all, thanks yelpers! I wouldn't have found this office if it wasn't for you. The reviews on here made me pretty confident they wouldn't rip me off with unneeded dental work (one of my biggest fears about dentists). Now, on to the review.
Since I've moved to the city, I've been wary (see also: lazy) about deciding on a new dentist. I mean, picking a new gynecologist was hard enough, but I just couldn't put off a cleaning any longer. I searched around for someplace reputable and close to my workplace and I found Dr. Lim's office.
Even before the visit, the receptionists were helpful and very easy to talk to. I had made an appointment for Saturday, which kind of wasn't ideal, since I wouldn't have to be at work that day, so I wouldn't be close to Dr. Lim's office. They kept me on watch for cancellations though, and were able to fit me in several days sooner, on a Monday.
When I got there, everyone was very nice, and the office and equipment looked very clean/new. I met Dr. Lim before the dental hygienist started the cleaning, and I found him very personable. As far as who had referred me, I had written "http://yelp.com" on my paperwork, so we talked a little bit about that. He's happy to have so many positive reviews!
Anyway, the cleaning went well. No cavities. They seem to have a lot of cutting edge equipment there... For example, Dr. Lim had this little laser thing that detects cavities. It gave off a sound like a hand-held metal detector. Weeeird... but cool!
Anyway, I had a great visit (as good as a dentist's visit can be, I guess), and I recommend them to everyone!
i floss, use a sonicare, and gurgle with Listerine. so i'm not joking when it comes being picky about my dental care. in 3 years, i have seen 3 different dentists and hated them all. in order to find the right dentist, i have paid too much money in premiums, but it was worth it because i found the BEST dentist!! not only is everything paperless (no annoying clipboards stuffed with papers) but the entire business space is clean and sterile--perfect even for a hypochondriac. the best part is dr. lim and his staff explain everything, even without being asked. i prize health care providers that believe in educating their patients, and dr. lim does just that. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME finding a dentist. just go here. you won't regret it.
Thank you, Yelp, for bringing Dr. Cho (part of Dr. Lim's practice) into my life. He's thorough, he's gentle, and he explains exactly what he's doing... he even apologized for having to scrape near my gums.
...yes, it was an uncomfortable experience but really, when is going to the dentist a joyful experience?
Bonus points also for the hip-hop and R&B that was playing in the background... because really, what could be better than Rhianna's Umbrella playing in the background as you're having your teeth flossed?
This place should be the model of all dentist offices! Nice, modern equipment -- flatscreen TVs in every room hooked up to Apple TV, very modern xray machine, cameras to swivel around your mouth and watch on the tv, nice comfy chairs, etc.
My doctor is Dr. Cho, and he's been very quick yet precise, gentle, and always explains everything to you step by step. A trip to the dentist is never a joy, and can be painful sometimes, but Dr. Cho makes me feel more relaxed and informed of what's going on. Only (slight) annoyance I have is that once he's done with the work, he barely gives you a proper goodbye, and quickly goes off to another patient -- but this is understandable as the office is busy and he tries to be time efficient.
I'd certainly recommend this practice to anyone
Ok now this REALLY takes the cake and confirms that Dr. Lim is a rockstar with a sense of humor. I just got an automated birthday message from his office on my cell phone in which the recorded voices of 6 or 7 people, either his staff or some pre-recorded canned voices from another planet, are singing happy b'day. thoughful, kitchy, made me laugh, and made me remember that it's time for my 6 month checkup.

Dr. Lim's office is the only place where you don't feel like you're being suckered into doing something to your teeth for the sake of them earning a coin. The are truly organized and well trained professionals. Julie the administrator is the most elegant Indian woman I have had the pleasure dealing with regarding payment and scheduling. Dr. Kim, who is in-network with METLIFE, is great. She has a soft hand, hums to you while she's working, and is mindful enough to apply vaseline to my ilps prior to major work. Dr. Lim, who does the serious stuff, has a kind face (like someone you'd fine in a Marquez book). He is quick, precise, and moves with such ease. I will never go to any other dentistry ever again.
When I was 17, I cracked both of my front teeth a month before my senior prom. I foolishly ran to a local dentist, not knowing whether he was qualified or not. Needless to say, my hastiness led to years of red, inflamed gums and bad breath!
At the recommendation of a friend, I visited Dr. Lim. He was friendly and professional. Although the procedure to fix the shoddy work that my prior dentist did took longer than expected, Dr. Lim explained everything to me in detail and was honest about what the complications could be. I appreciated the fact that he was more interested in getting it right than getting it done quickly. Many dentists do a "cover-up" that simply masks the problem, allowing them to rake in more money when the ailment worsens and patients have to re-visit. I can say with certainty that Dr. Lim is not one of those dentists. A+!
This guy is awesome, he is officially my dentist now and plus hes from my homeotown of Houston. I went in for a regular exam and not a minute of waiting was taken back straight to the room and got in and out. He is extremely good and competent. He went over everything in great detail.
Just got back from checkup with Dr. Cho and was impressed. very clean, state of the art equipment and excellent service. My favorite part is that he didnt try to sell me any BS teeth whitening or unecessary filling replacements.
Dr. Lim is a great dentist who will really put you at ease. If you're afraid of dentists, go to this guy! The whole group is very professional and humane. They've done quite a bit of work on my mouth and the only way I'd go elsewhere is if I had to leave New York. By the way, the work they do is really excellent. People are always telling me I have beautiful teeth. Thanks, Dr. Lim!
Dr. Cho rocks. He definitely takes time to answer any questions or listen to concens, and also explians to you exaclty what he is doing. Aside from the usuall cavity fillings, he's also pulled my wisdom tooth (only under local anesthetic) and it was so painless and trauma-free. Julie at reception is always so pleasant and nice as well. Even though I now live and work in Lower Manhattan, there is no way I am switching dentists. I feel lucky to have found their office! Highly reccommend their office.
Since my old dentist didn't take my new insurance, I turned to Yelp to help me find a new dentist. After reading all the positive reviews of Dr. Lim, I decided to make an appointment with him. Like others have said, everyone in his office was totally courteous and helpful, and certainly made the generally unpleasant chore of going to the dentist as good as it could be. Dr. Lim himself was also great, personable and professional. He alerted me to a potential future problem, but not once did I feel like he was pushing unnecessary work on me. I will definitely be going back! Thanks Yelpers!
my visit was memorable...not only was it painless, but for the first time, i was in danger of falling asleep during a cleaning...yes, it was that magical. everyone who works there is super courteous, and i'm pretty sure i've never had a more thorough exam...after months and months of dentist-hopping, i think i've finally found 'my' dentist! thanks again, yelpers...at least, my teeth thank you.
Fantastic service! They make you feel like a VIP every time. Very modern, very professional, great service. Inspires full confidence and I've been recommending to all of my friends. Just schedule early!
I don't expect much from a dentist. Honestly, if I enter the place and it looks more like a hospital and less like a scene from Hostel, we're off to a good start. But this did pleasantly surprise me- as much as a dentist can pleasantly surprise. The receptionist that took my appointment was extremely helpful explaining to me my new dental insurance. She got me in to see Dr. Lim 3 days after calling. I didn't have to wait 3 months- 2 stars right there. Then once I arrived, the place was clean and sufficiently hi-tech (flat screen TVs, cool x-ray machines), and I didn't have to wait to be taken back- star #3. Then, after the hygienist cleaned my teeth, Dr. Lim came in to introduce himself and go over anything that may have needed reviewing. He's from Houston too!! - star #4. I trust a doctor from my hometown. The fifth star never came into being because, let's face it, it's a dentist, and it's never a 5-star experience. But I did get a party favor with a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, a coupon, and a squishy 3" tall tooth that I now keep at my desk to remind me to floss. Where's my lollipop?
