Homemade mac and cheese with proscuito and truffle oil.
I think it speaks for itself.
I had brunch at this place on Newbury that was supposed to great. It was overpriced and the service was terrible. Welcome to Boston.
But since there was both a piece of tin foil AND a hair in my sweet potato and corned beef hash, the manager comped it. They screwed up my friend's $3 bagel, and it came a very long time after the rest of the food. she ordered a toasted everything, they brought her a plain, and then took another 20 minutes to bring back the bagel she ordered, but only after i asked the waittress about it, and not until she was already 3/4 of the way done with her food.
We were sitting outside and it was a bit chilly and windy, so i asked for my side of toast (which was $4) to be buttered in the kitchen while the toast was still hot. Didn't happen. It came out dry and with no side butter, only jam. I sent it back, they buttered it cold like they were frosting a cake and didn't warm it up as i had asked. So no melted butter for me, plus I had to scrape off huge blobs of butter from it. why is that so hard for a professional sous chef to butter a piece of toast? Is this how you would butter your own toast at home? With huge blobs of butter floating on cold toast? And you're charging me more than a whole loaf of bread costs for two slices of toast that you can't even serve right?
We were there for almost an hour and a half between waiting for service, waiting for coffee, waiting for food, waiting for them to fix their mistakes, then waiting for the waitress to bring the check, which took another 15 minutes after we asked for it and then had to remind her while she was doing something else that she still hadn't brought the check. She was nice enough, but slow as hell and they couldn't get anything right.
They also served my double espresso in a full sized coffee cup and took their sweet time with that, so that wasn't hot when i got it either. and I ordered my friend a mocha and that tasted like crap. Not sure how they screwed that up. I suspect she didn't even know how to make a latte, and made a mocha americano, which was watery and gross.
The whole thing was just terrible and had we paid full price it easily would have been a $50 breakfast. unreal. for what? a server that ignores you, food that doesn't come, and when it does it's wrong, then you have to hound the waitress about things because she's under the impression that the kitchen will just make it right and bring it out whenever and she isn't involved.
This is the prototypical place that drive me nuts about Boston. The waitresses and the foodservice do not live up to the prices these places charge. If I'm being asked to pay $50 for breakfast for two, it better be FLAWLESS. As in- PERFECT. This wasn't even competent.
So unless your only priority is to look cool and eat on Newbury st, I suggest passing over this place.
And although I didn't order it, I saw this on the menu: A $10 basic mimosa is indefensible. A $13 jazzed up mimosa is simply unbelievable.
Stephanie,
I just can't do this anymore. It's not you, it's me.
Ok, it's you.
I love your warm fireplace and comfy seating as I wait for a table. I appreciate how you provide free cheese and crackers at the bar. You even do a Christmas tree for the holidays. It's great! It's just that the quality of your food isn't that good anymore. Brunch has slipped to average and the comfort food is so-so. Lately, it's been kinda bad even. For example, the pulled chicken pasta was way over salted as if the chicken stock with the prosciutto, vege, herbs in it had been over-reduced, sitting out, or re-cooked. And there was way too much of it. Did I get the last of it? Because I had images of the cook flipping over the rest of the pot. Even the brunch seems to be falling short. It's just so average tasting.
But it's not just that. The service is really bad lately, like the staff is aloof or something. You shouldn't have to wait for water, or menus. And managers who notice you sitting there should never respond with, "Your server will be right there". What happened to, "I apologize for the wait. Is there anything I can get you?" Last time my server stood chit-chatting behind us while I sat there parched. At least I think that was my server... three or four different people tended to us that night. It was so impersonal and (dare I say) TGIFridays-ish. Sorry, but that's how it felt.
What happened?!
Comfort food has gone mainstream and you need to differentiate with creativity, quality and service. You're going to have to do much better. Bring back the hospitality that people associate with comfort food! Bring back the wow.

Food is great, salads are huge and it's worth just eating at the bar for the best service and awesome drinks.
I'm a big fan of eating comfort food (meatloaf!) by the fireplace in the winter and sitting at an outdoor table to peoplewatch during the brief summer months. It's a classic Boston spot and enjoyable yearround.
After my husband and sister been ranting and raving about this place, we decided to give it a shot, especially since I have never been there. We did not have reservation but got seated in 10 minutes, which was awesome.
First Course: Ahi Tuna Tartare (2 thumbs up!)
Main Course:
Trout with Rock Shrimp and Garlic Spinach was pretty good.
Pulled Chicken Pasta, my husband liked it but could've used more chicken in his dish.
Service:
Not so great. Server was missing in action most of the time.
Overall, food was pretty good but the not so good service kind of ruined the experience.

We had brunch here and it was pretty solid. The coffee was strong. The egg yolks hot and still runny. The chicken salad was delicious.
Could not get them to make a Bloody Mary before noon but that just goes to show you that I'm obviously not a local.
Clean bathrooms!

Not easy on the wallet ... long long long wait. Food was excellent. 3 tuna salads, a flirtini, a beer, a cider and three glasses of wine $150.
Bartender was very friendly. Dining experience was 3+ hours because we waiting about 2 hours for a table. Free cheese, grapes and crackers for the people waiting at the bar for a table. EXTREMELY popular so make reservations if you can.
I don't appreciate having to wait 45 minutes for brunch only to be told once seated that the coffee machine is broken. For me, my cup of coffee with breakfast/brunch is critical. After asking the server to please check again, he returned to tell us that they had managed to fix the coffee machine. Great.
Overall, my friends and I really enjoyed our brunch. We had the eggs benedict, goat cheese salad, pancakes, sticky bun and veggie omelet. My only complaint about my eggs benedict was that the brioche was really hard and chewy and I almost needed to ask for a steak knife to even cut it. The flavor was great though.
I was not impressed with the service. The professionalism of the wait staff did not match the overall image that this restaurant is trying to convey. Our server did not know how to answer some of the basic questions we had about the menu. Disappointing when I'm paying more than $20 per person for brunch.

I think the food here is normal, I wouldn't recommend waiting in line if you have to sit inside. But I would recommend waiting in line to sit outside and eat. Its a total different experience than sitting inside. Newbury is such a cute little street and it is alot of fun to sit outside and people watch!
I had the goat cheese salad and fruit salad the other night with my co-worker for light dinner and the salad, goat cheese, and nuts created the great combination and the fruit salad was very fresh and sweet.
We also ordered the waffle dish for dessert with two shots of americano... I'm a big fan of waffle :) I enjoyed the belgian waffle with the scoopful vanila ice cream yummy!
I haven't try their other dishes but I satisfied so fat at the stephanie's on newbury
As if I hadn't eaten enough this day, we decided to have drinks at Stephanie's. One look at the menu however, and I decided that my second stomach could handle it. I ordered the pecan crusted warm goat cheese salad. I am mad crazy for goat cheese. When served warn with greens, walnuts and some pears, I cannot resist. It's the perfect combination.
You can sit outside though this particular day was so warm we preferred to sit inside and enjoy the AC. Service was relatively quick and it is a nice space. YUM.

I judge places harder with higher-than-average prices. I get the Stephanie's in the "prime" location of Newbury St. but with that location, quality has to match.
Also, and this is completely unrelated to my dining experience but HOLY HELL the birds were going cray cray... and just around our table. At one point, a bird was straight up sitting on Heather H. Just hanging out, scoping out the people with us walking by on Newbury St. And many other flew by at breakneck speed... towards our faces. But that is neither here nor there.
So a beautiful day warrants sitting outside and drinking white wine. And in my three years in Boston I still have not been to Stephanie's so I saw this to be the perfect opportunity.
I was undeterred by the hour-plus wait in store to sit outside because after all, it was an amazing day. But I was really hoping for something to write home about regarding my salad.
I was in between the ahi tuna salad and the burger but since I was set on having white wine the salad was a must. And though it was perfectly edible, I think the "taste" part of the salad was on the left, delicately drizzled over the tuna. Personally I like my tuna a little more raw but it was definitely delicious. The right side of the salad though... ?!
Maybe they didn't toss their salad right (heh), but I found the greens to be almost entirely tasteless. There was a hint of dressing but otherwise it was up to my imagination to think of what the greens would taste like with more dressing. The wasabi/soy dressing was great and a good compliment to the fish, but my greens were kind of left alone.
The house wine was delicious and paired really well with my meal. In fact, I was a little tipsy at the end which generally makes any meal better.
And I was so excited to see the most "awesome" couple sit a few tables behind us. She was fake everything with the most nonsensical pair of shoes I've ever seen. And I think the husband's hair was slicked back with crisco. And he had a bald spot. SO GOOD!
I will probably be back, but I'd like for them to make bigger bathrooms. I don't want to be up in some lady's business. So hop to it, Stephanie's.

This review is just for the drinks..
the service was great and we had the spinach and artichoke dip which was perfectly fine.
We ordered Sangria and the Dragonberry cocktails. For drinks that are over $10.. I would have expected more. They were both watered down and we never had another round.
I'll have to come back for brunch.
I visited this place on a very busy night in August. Every restaurant on Newbury had a wait. Luckily, Stephanie's has a bar. So I was able to dine there.
The clam chowder was thick. Something I never expected. I was so full from it. It's delicious, but get the smallest cup you can. I got a bowl of it and couldn't even finish.
Their crab cakes are delicious, very rich and filling.
Martinis are fantastic.
They have a very attractive and friendly staff. Overall this is a great place.
Our over-priced food was so bad we couldn't finish it. Paid our check and ran!
Pretty outdoor seating area. This place is a yuppie meat market, so if you're lookin fer love after work ENJOY!

I really don't know what the appeal of this place is...people watching?
I came here once in college but don't remember anything from it. All I know is that it didn't impress me at all for me to want to go back again. I went there this past Saturday when browsing around Newbury street and it was the closest place to get to in the crazy heat.
We were promptly seated and was greeted by a nice waiter. We placed our orders and both my lobster rolls and the bf's beet salad came quickly. I love lobster rolls and while i enjoyed the one from stephanie's overstuffed roll, I don't feel that it's any different than something i can get from faneuil hall. bf found something that looked like a thick piece of hair in his salad and asked for a new one. he was then told that the chef said it wasn't a piece of hair. it was from the chick pea. really? chick peas have hair? we would have believed it if they said it was from the onion...but he was given a new plate anyways and that was all he wanted. i think i'd give our food a three star...
so we were done with our food and patiently waited for our water glasses to be refilled. they were never refilled. we patiently waited for someone to come and clear our plate and ask if we needed anything else, no one ever came. well, that's not true. our waiter came, 20 minutes later. he took away our plates, still, no water refill. i give the service a minus 3 star
we won't go back there again.
My budget does not allow for expensive Sunday brunches anymore, however with a gorgeous day and a couple of hours to spare I was drawn to Stephanie's patio like a match to California's draught ridden forests.
I ordered the apple chicken sausage with potato pancake and it came looking like a grey mosaic. The sausage was good. The pancake was grey, oily and flavorless. The apples added a nice flavor but the liberal application of watery sour cream served to bland down any flavor they may have added.
They do have good coffee, but that's certainly not a good reason to ever return. Which is exactly what I will be doing. Never returning. When spending 35 dollars on a brunch I expect it to be stellar. Stephanie's failed me.
So, my latest date brought me here. When he said that we are going to Stephanies, a piece of my heart died, but he seemed like a nice guy, so I decided to give him and Stephanie a chance.
Food - overpriced, your typical American comfort food. Sandwiches, burgers and salads. The menu looks great, but the actual food lacks taste. Huge portions of poorly prepared tasteless food. I had the shepards pie. Ehh, doesn't taste much better then those 3 for $5 pies at your local grocery store. I also tried the warm chocolate cake, which was better then the shepards pie, but not worth $11. The drinks are watered down.
Service - you mean the lack of service. I had to ask for water at least three times.
Scene - this place is packed. Total meat market, filled with pretentious douchbags and their female counterparts carrying doggie purses a la Paris Hilton. Bleh!!
The patio is nice and the chairs are comfy. Nice wine selection too.
Stephanie's, one of the most pretentious joints in Boston I've experienced. Overall, the food is decent, but definitely not worth the price ($15 for a salad). Don't kid yourself, if you're eating at Stephanie's, it's not to enjoy a $15 salad but to be seen. Like many other 'trendy' spots in Boston, Stephanie's strives for a European outdoor cafe feel, with fenced off seating.
My last two attempts at dining there ended with me leaving in frustration after being ignored by wait staff for 15-20 minutes, with many empty tables in plain view. Their horrendous service is unacceptable, and I don't plan on going there again.

Last week I spent 4 days in Boston for a wedding and related festivities, and during the 4 days we had only 4 meals on our own and of our own choosing and we chose to eat at Stephanie's for 2 of those meals. Out of the 50 or so menu items, I ordered, devoured and yearned for more of only 1 item - the Tuna Tartare. We enjoyed lunch here on Saturday and then again on Sunday (even braving a freak thunderstorm to get there) because gosh darn it the Tuna Tartare is just that damn good. Imagine a mound of creamy avocado topped with a very generous portion of fresh tuna lightly seasoned with ginger and sesame, sprinkled with crisp won tons and peanuts and drizzled with 3 spicy sauces (if you have ever had the Firecracker Balls at Naked Fish, the sauces at Stephanies are very similar). The first day, I shared this treat, the second day I did not share!
Minus One Star for really poor communication and assistance at the two hostess stations. If you can get past the disorganization and confusion, the food is worth it for sure. (Note to management - lovely college girls at the front is nice, but their attitudes are not!)

When you have lobster pot pie on the menu, tastebuds should start to water. They did for me until I received my meal. It was more like lobster bisque with chewy crust on top. What irked me the most was that there was no outer crust shell to hold the lobster filling. The filling itself was good, but I thought it needed to be thicker. It was more like soup.
Also I got sparking pink sangria (it's okay) and a blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream on top, which I think was the best part of my meal. This place seems to be hit or miss depending on what you order. Also try to sit outside at the patio area in front of the restaurant on a nice day.
Bottom line: Don't order the lobster pot pie!

I took some out of town friends here for dinner on a friday night. We didn't have reservations so the wait was rather long, but we walked around and came back without a problem. The hostess could have been a little friendlier, (we had been walking around all day and weren't dressed as nicely as other patrons), but I think it might have been because she was wearing visibly painful heels that she could barely walk in (put on some flats, dear).
The bar was too crowded to attempt and there wasn't much seating in the waiting area. Once we were seated, however, everything was fine. Our waitress was very nice and attentive and took the time to work with my celiac friend to make sure to accomodate her needs despite being very busy. We all ordered different salads which were all huge and delicious. The goat cheese and beet salad I had was perfect (and inspired the two ladies at the table next to us to order it as well). I'm happy to have a reliable big salad place in Boston now. We also ordered the white sangria which was tasty, but the pitcher was filled with far too much ice and was too expensive for that. Every dish that passed our table looked great and the menu seemed interesting enough. I'm really surprised to see some strongly negative reviews of the food below.
The ambiance was nice, though it is a very crowded and loud restaurant. It's supposed to be a 'place to be seen', (by whom I'm not exactly sure), and there are plenty of people that take this to heart and try to give it an air of pretention and I wish they would chill-- the restaurant would benefit.
I would definitely go back, but only for lunch or at an off hour unless some more out-of-towners want to get a good laugh from the people watching.
I heart Stephanie's and its not only because it has a great name, but the food and the cocktails were quite delicious. I had this Dragon-Berry cocktail, which I so wish I could have had another one, but one was the limit for our brunch time of fun on Newbury.
For my entree I had the lobster quesadilla, which was very good with a good amount of lobster meat and wasn't greasy or under-flavored. My friend had the Macaroni and White Cheddar cheese, it looked very creamy and she enjoyed it very much.
The atmosphere is business casual with a great bar area on the side. I would definitely go back and I heard that they make a fabulous brunch. My only issue is that honestly its a bit overpriced for what it is. It would be the "spot" on Newbury but you better bring your wallet cause it's gonna cost ya.

mm i know this place/location seems stuffy but i didn't run into any rudeness when i went. i hope people won't judge this place by its appearance (or by some of its reviews).
they have pretty hefty portions, a little on the salty side. the crab cake eggs benedict were good, but the side of bacon was very satisfying. my friend enjoyed her french toast, but that thing looked huge!
kinda fancy settings for a morning brunch, but it was fun to try out.
The drinks are not cheap as is the food. The service is good & up beat. The clientele is interesting & up scale. It's a great place to stop off at on the way home, or when out shopping.
For the price, I'd say this place is rather overrated. I went there for lunch and had their cheeseburger which was decent, but a little overcooked. Not sure what the dinner atmosphere is, but for lunch on a weekday, it was mostly the professional type and a few shoppers in the area stopping by. The service was quick and generally friendly. I wouldn't mind this place if it were a bit cheaper. But I would just say go somewhere else in the area (at least for lunch).
I came here for lunch on a crappy (wintery mix anyone?) January day for lunch before class. I was soaking and sweating, a really sexy combination. I felt ridiculous. But the hostess and waitstaff didn't look at me like I was swamp woman and tried to make me as comfortable as possible.
The food:
The lobster quesadillas are out of control. SOOOO yummy. Five stars alone to them!
For my entree I had the portabello mushroom pizza which has little pieces of bacon of it, that almost crushed this little vegetarian. But, I trucked through and said THE HELL WITH IT! It was worth the weight on my conscious and my waist line.
If you're going to go all out on Newbury, do it here!

I think Stephanie's has improved over the past few years. I ate here when I first came to Boston but hadn't been in at least two years. Their patio lured me in yesterday and I really enjoyed my meal.
I got their three bean salad, which strangely enough, does not tell you what types of three beans are included in the salad, even though the description is at least five lines long. Bizarre. Anyway, the salad was great and very large. It included: shredded carrots, red onion, kalamata olives, banana peppers tomatoes, cucumbers and croutons tossed with ranch style greek dressing topped with feta cheese and grilled thick cut bacon over chopped iceberg and romaine lettuce. I got it without the bacon and with grilled chicken. Great substitution!
My friend ordered the scallops and really enjoyed them. They were gone in .2 seconds!
My blackberry mojito was really good, although there was no visible mint in the cocktail. Strange, right? It was large, but not very strong.
During the lunchtime (11:30-3ish), the sun is on the opposite side of the street, so this is a prime place for a super hot day since you'll be in the shade. It's also dog friendly, so they won't mind if your dog eats next to you on the patio.
Service was attentive although the "manager" hastled me about sitting down and ordering a drink while waiting for my friend. He told me I had to order food, which I understand is the law... but I'm waiting for ten minutes. Even if I ordered the food, it wouldn't have been there in 10 minutes.
I've brunched here and my friends have really enjoyed their eggs benedict. What I got was not memorable.
Prices are a little more than I'd typically pay for a lunch, but it's a nice Newbury experience. I much prefer the Stephanie's on Newbury to Stephi's on Tremont. Food and drink menu is much better. Looking forward to many more patio lunches and trying their other salads and sandwiches!

I think Stephanie's must have, at one time, provided consistently good food with consistently good service. Thats the only reason I can think of to explain how they've been around this long and somehow still have some semblance of a good reputation.
I haven't been to Stephanie's in years, but I recently suggested it to a group of friends who I was out to dinner with for one person's 41st birthday. We made a last-minute reservation here because our first plan fell through. Somehow, I think this biased them against us before we even arrived.
The host gave me a less than warm greeting when we arrived, and directed us to the packed bar to wait. This was difficult as there was no place to sit or stand without being in the staff's way. After about 15 minutes, we were seated at what was referred to as their "best table". I'm not sure how that could be the case as the table is next to their linen chest, which staff kept reaching behind us for. *Note to self: don't store linen behind corner 8-top round table.
Our server started out ok, but things quickly went downhill when one of our party showed up late and not exactly dressed for our dining choice. Not his fault, but seemed to rub our server the wrong way. This late guest also did make a few dining faux pas's, but again, I expect service at an establishment like Stephanie's to be a little less rigid and a little more professional (ie, don't wear your dislike for a guest on your face).
To make matters worse, when our entrees were served, the guest in question did NOT receive his entree. The server checked in at the table, at which point we pointed this out to him. He made a disgusted face and didn't return for almost 30 minutes. A busboy finally brought the dinner, at which point the rest of the table had finished their meals and some were already being cleared. Our friend sent the entree back, which prompted the manager to come over and apologize. Still no check in from our server.
Eventually, the server came back and barely spoke to us. He was cordial, at best.
We had been carrying around our own birthday cake (again, not having planned to be here) which we asked them to serve - and we paid a plating fee, even though they didn't plate it. After dinner was cleared, it took at least another 10-15 minutes before we saw the cake. Not sliced, not plated, just carried out.
When we left, I went to speak with the manager to apologize for any difficulty on the part of our friend, but to highlight the missteps of our server, as well. I was told he had left for the evening, which I find curious when the restaurant was still half-full and open for another hour or so.
*To boot, the friend whose birthday we were celebrating is in a wheelchair and is fighting a life-threatening illness which has slowly caused him to lose quite a bit of freedom. Not that the restaurant should have known this, but their complete lack of professionalism throughout the night and horrible treatment of our group overall sure made for a lousy birthday. I, personally, am embarrassed that I even suggested Stephanie's for this outing and feel badly that the birthday boy could have had a lot more fun.

See and be seen. A shi-shi place that is only good for socializing. Boston's version of The Ivy in L.A.
I've been here once for lunch and once for Sunday brunch. Onion rings are greasy and heavy, and could comprise a whole meal for two people.
Although I did enjoy their French toast, the price tag was ridiculous. I love luxury, but not when I feel like I'm being stiffed by a jaded chef.
Skip this place and head down the street to Pazzo (ex-Croma) for brunch.
This place is "wicked" lame. Their location gives them this high-horse/tra-lala attitude which I could very well live without. So, yay for the location which is fantastic for people watching alongside scenic buildings, etc., but the prices are absurd, menu choices minimum, and the portions small. I truly believe you're paying for the sidewalk you're sitting next to, not the actual service or food. Let me mention my lunch was tainted by a strong scent of garbage, not even emanating from the street, but from the venue itself. Lastly, my club's turkey was dryer than the flavorless bread it was stacked on. So, if you're rich and just like to see and be seen this scene is for you, not me!

Just had brunch at Stephanie's, and the Crab Eggs Benedict was fantastic. They have a killer location, where you can people watch from their patio. I would probably give it 3.5* because the crab eggs benedict was so good, but the potatoes had too much paprika and salt. The service was so-so, certainly nothing special, however I had to wait 10 minutes for the coffee (the excuse was they didn't have any clean cups, well for the amount they charge, they could easily afford to buy a new dishwasher!!). I really think they shouldn't have charged me for the coffee, since its absolutely unacceptable to not have coffee served right away during Sunday brunch!!
Great food. Waitress provided sup-par service, not alright when you're at Stephanies on a slow day.
I had 2 not-great experiences during the day before my dinner there last Friday.
1) When I made the reservation earlier in the week (for 7 people), I requested the "patio." The girl who made the reservation said they don't make reservations for the patio, but that she'd put in a note that we wanted to sit there. When someone called to confirm day-off, I said "anyway we'll end up on the patio?" Her response was "we can't put parties of 7 on the patio." Would have been nice if the original person had told me this!! It was gorgeous out and several people in my party were really looking forward to sitting outside.
2) I was curious what beans were in their Mediterranean three-bean salad, so I asked. I was put on hold as the girl went to find out and when she returned, she said "we took that off the menu yesterday." Darn!
Our experience at Stephanie's was not much better. My fiance and I showed up about 5 minutes before our reservation and checked in. We were told we could be seated when everyone showed up. A few minutes later, a few more people showed, so we checked in again to see if we could be seated. We didn't get seated until over a half an hour AFTER our reservation time. And rather than give any explanation or apology, all we were told - 20 minutes before being seated - was that our table was being set.
As for dinner: the food is good. It's not amazing or the best I've ever had, but it's decent. I ended up with the Red beet and Vermont goat cheese salad: poached asparagus, chick peas, toasted walnuts, pickled onions, chopped tomatoes, sourdough croutons and baby spinach. Tossed with orange mustard vinaigrette.
There were definitely NO croutons, I believe lettuce instead of spinach, and a creamy dressing instead of vinaigrette. My friend ordered her salad with no dressing and it came DRENCHED in dressing.
I also got the Blackberry Mojito: rum, fresh mint, fresh blackberries. Granted, it was listed under the martinis, so I shouldn't have been surprised that it came in a martini glass, but there was no mint whatsoever and the "fresh blackberries" were apparently the little "plops" floating around in my drink. We think they were the little bumps on blackberries. This was not worth $13.
Overall, I ended up paying $37 for a salad & a drink. Now, I know Newbury St. is expensive and I was prepared to spend money, especially knowing that Stephanie's is always raved about and is one of the more expensive places. But this was not worth it. It's definitely over-hyped and I would not return.

My salad had actual cheese in it, that seemed like cheese I would actually eat for being cheese, not just to fatten up the lettuce. My friend ordered sweet potato fries, they came out and were too salty, the waitress brought him back unsalted freshly cooked ones for free and we got to keep the salty ones (which I ate unabashedly!)
The sangria didn't have much alcohol in it for the price, and the inside is definitely not as nice as the outdoor seating on a beautiful day!
We went to Stephanie's today for lunch. The only thing that was enjoyable was the patio dining.
Service was at first, non - existant. We had to ask twice if we had a server for our table. Once she showed, it was clear that she was either new or simply in the weeds. Our food arrived at the same time as our drinks (water and diet coke!).
I order the Ahi Tuna sandwhich which sounded fantastic on the menu - but was a HUGE disappointment. It was a pre-formed patty of tuna with no taste. To top it off, it cost 16 bucks.
Skip over this place for a one of the better places on Newbury/Boylston.
unfriendly, do not greet you nor do they listen to you, completely overpriced food which does nowhere live up to the upscale status they pretend to be!

I always had this impression of eating at Stephanie's would be this stuffy, terribly overrated experience, and even after four years of living in Boston, I had never bothered to go even though I lived within a block of the place.
Well, I was wrong. I went for lunch, and it was worth every damn dollar I spent. I personally had a Shepherd's pie, which was actually placed in half a squash, and it was delicious. I went with 5 other people though and there were universally rave reviews for everything we ate.
The only reason his doesn't get five stars is because the place is always super crowded, and they don't take reservations.
Recommendations for lunch:
Clam Chowder
Shepherd's Pie
One of their sandwiches

Their menu is very small, and doesn't change much. They're mostly a salad place, which makes sense when you think of their clientele - botoxed overbearing mothers and their crew. The atmosphere was straight up awful when I went yesterday for late lunch. I had the tuna tar tar, and although the portion was nice, the tuna was totally shit - the cut of meat was just awful. There was a lot of sinuewy type muscle, the kind that you can't chew through. Brunch there was better - I had the apple chicken sausage with onions and a potato pancake. My only complaint was that the pancake was uber tiny. Oh well, worth a shot.
