I woke up the other morning craving pizza. It was rather bizarre because I hardly ever crave pizza, and when I do, it's usually at 1:30 in the morning after 4-5 cocktails. Come to think of it, in that state of mind I usually crave anything that looks appealing within a five foot radius of me. That usually ends up being pizza, but also can include the 20 year old pizza boy behind the counter.
"Ohhh, I want a slice of YOU!! Box it up sweetie, I'm taking it home with me...."
*Gives sexy double entendre look*
My hot blonde wing-girl and I were one drink short of pouncing on him like a pair of 25 year old cougars. That poor boy wouldn't have known what to do with us. Also, an apology to the cab driver that had to endure all the drunken dirty talk flying out of our mouths for the entire ride home. But the next morning she and I were relieved that the only thing we had to throw out was an empty pizza box.
In any case, on this lovely afternoon I was not inebriated, and for some reason I couldn't shake this pizza craving. I eventually gave into my stomach, as I usually do, because my appetite always gets the final say.
Little Star (which I love) is a few doors down, but they are closed on Mondays. It was probably a good thing because I was reluctant to order a whole $25 Deep Dish pizza, knowing that my stomach (being in charge) would have compelled me to eat the whole damn thing.
Thankfully Stella Doro has pizza by the slice, and was exactly what I needed. $7 for two large slices, and an assortment of toppings. It was fresh and tasty, and just what was needed to quell my craving.

Pretty decent pizza at low prices
I was hungry, but not too hungry so I just ordered a slice of cheese pizza for $2.50.
It turned out to be much larger than I had expected (see photo).
I took a seat at the counter and topped it with garlic powder, parmasen cheese, and chili pepper flakes, which made it 100x better.
Very nice guys running the place too.
+ many options of toppings
+ clean restroom
Stelladoro is good, not great, but definitely does the trick when I need a quick slice. I like that I can run in and order a couple slices with the toppings I want rather than just whatever is sitting under the heater.
Prices are pretty cheap. I wish it was open later.

I guess if it's last call and you need a pizza fix before calling it a night Stelladoro will do, well what other choice do you have? None, in the Western Addition stretch of Divisidero at least. I've tried to give it a break and say, it is what it is. But it is just so bad. But hey, fool me twice right? Their other foods, pastas and what not are equally as bleh, but cheap..I like cheap! So when in doubt I order the mozzarella sticks, can't go wrong there, grab a handful from a box and throw em in the deep fryer.

It was good and cheap. Pizza is decent - nothing special, but still not bad at all. Not the best chicken parm I've ever had either, but it hits the spot when you want something quick and easy.
Convenient and quick - good value for the price.
Not bad. Not great. Cheap. Hot. Cheesy. Greasy. no replacement for Little Star but edible. Especially when Little Star is CLOSED =*(
Actually 2 slices cut so it's one big slice, good for grabbing and eating on the go..pepper flakes & pepper grinds made it even better.
Lots of other items other than pizza on their menu. It's really not worthy of 3 stars, but not bad enough to only get 2...so i'm being nice and rounding up.
The choices are simple. On the way home when I want to grab a slice its just $2.50 for a cheese slice and $0.50 more for every topping. Makes ordering pretty simple.
Since this is all made to order you know you are getting a fresh and piping hot slice even if you have to wait for a few minutes. No other pizza joint I know makes slices fresh to order - you just can't top that.
I got a large cheese with pepperoni and mushroom...the price for the cheese pizza isn't bad at all, but the toppings do add up. The pizza was decent enough, nothing special though. I would give it 3.5 stars especially since it was ready in 15 minutes.
I tried to go to Little Star Pizza, but it was a Monday, and apparently Little Star is closed on Mondays.
This was not a satisfying replacement.
Also, they charge in such a way that if you do a split pie you'll pay as if all the toppings were on all the slices. The poor counter dude has to explain this to every single person that orders a split pie, then wait for them to dejectedly figure out how to come to agreement on just one set of toppings.
I'll be back to get pizza from this block. But not on a Monday.

The $4 I spent on a slice of Stella Doro pizza was the best $4 I'd spent all evening:
First purchase of the evening: pint of beer, $4.
Second purchase of the evening: pint of beer, $4
Third purchase of the evening: pint of beer, $5
Fourth purchase of the evening: slice of Stella Doro pizza with chicken and artichokes, $4
Now, I like beer, but unfortunately I'm a lightweight and I probably should have stopped after the first pint. I don't know what I was thinking.
The slice was a big slice, actually cut into two smaller slices. It was cheesy and greasy and oily and gooey.
It was a cheesy, greasy, oily, gooey, beer-absorbing sponge.
It would probably get three stars if I ate it without first drinking too much beer.

Order from here if the following words mean nothing to you:
1) Live to be 50
2) Morbid obesity
3) Coronary artery disease
You know, I am not one of those bitches who talks about calories because I am chubbs, I will always be chubbs and I don't care if you don't like it, because I don't want to have sex with you anyway.
But DAMN. This pizza was GREASY. So greasy in fact that when I was done eating a slice, I had to go wash my face because I could feel it overtaking my skin.
So why three stars? It wasn't that bad, delivery was quick and the driver was very sweet, my housemate's cat ran out of the house when he showed up (like he always does) and he helped me get the cat back in. That never happens. And they have chicken fingers. In case you don't get enough grease from their pizza.
Edit: This pizza sucks the next day, which every delivery addict knows is the test of a true good pie. So, it must pay the consequences and get downgraded.

This is the perfect pit stop on the way home after several drinks on an empty stomach. Especially if you're on your way home from Bar 821 directly across the street.
I had only been to Stella Doro once before. Years ago, I stumbled in piss drunk and wanted a salad. Those were the days when I actually cared how big my ass looked. These days, booze me up, throw some melted cheese and pork products down my throat, and put me to bed. That's a pretty typical night.
Back then, the salad didn't pass muster but who cares? I'm over greens now and I'm onto bigger and better things! It took us a while, and there were many rejected drunk topping combination proposals, but we finally settled on pepperoni, garlic, and mushroom with extra sauce. Minus one star for completely disregarding our sauce request. Minus one more star for being a little undercooked. I don't like crust anyway, but other people do and it's not right to leave it doughy.
This is definitely a place to TAKE OUT from. Fluorescent lights, claustrophobic strip of tables, and utilitarian decor equals I'd rather be home getting fat in my pajamas and watching bad movies. Plus, I'm drunk and the lighting is giving me a headache.
Needless to say, the pizza was gone within about 20 minutes of getting it home. I will be back, I will order in from here, and goddammit, those fried mozzarella sticks will be mine next time!

For 3 dollars i can get two decently sized pieces of pizza, (you are really only paying for one), toppings of my choice, and be grubbing in just minutes. Does the trick when I'm craving pizza
For orders over 10 dollars they will deliver. This is new to me...but i like it.
For free they will hook you up with extra pizza, soda, etc if they realize that you live with your roommate Carly, and you know that the guy who works there has a huge crush on her. I name drop constantly.

The pizza from this place is so-so. I'd give it a three, definitely a three.
But the reason it gets four stars is that there's an item they sell that's not on the menu. That item is cheesy fries. You heard me right; Stella Doro Pizza sells cheesy fries.
The thing is, you've gotta be brave to order them. It's not a Soup Nazi thing. Not at all. It's just, I think they think it's illegal to sell cheesy fries, because they're not on the menu, and every time you order them, the employees kind of look at each other funny and then ask you what size you want. Definitely ask for the large.
If you like cheesy fries, go to this place. I doubt they'll deliver cheesy fries to you, but you could try.

My visit to this place was propagated by a show at The Independent, and sadly I will not be visiting them again. I had walked from my apartment to the show & decided to snag a slice before I entered the venue.
When I entered the pizza place, it was empty. No customers & no employees! I waited for about a minute before making extra noise to distract the employees from watching their asian television channel in the back office.
The cashier walked up front, looked at me as if I had ruined his evening & asked "Can I help you?". I ordered a slice of pepperoni. He grabbed a slice out of warmer (or holding bay) which had unmelted cheese & awaited some toppings. He threw some pepperoni on top, tossed it in the oven & charged me $2.75.
I waited about 5 minutes & noticed some of the decoration--Asian mini-waterfalls & what looked to be a Buddah shrine on the top shelf of the back wall.
My pizza came out, even though I had asked to dine-in they made my slice to-go. So I left. The pizza itself was marginal...the crust was too sweet for my taste, and the pizza itself was undercooked. As I was mackin' down on my slice, I couldn't help but notice the cheese was all clumpy.
This place may be better named "Buddah's Pizza", and I don't imagine Buddah really would have gave a shit about a good slice--hence the name would work quite well for this place. I'm wiling to bet Stella Doro once made a good slice, but the original owners probably sold the place & moved on.
Go across the street to the BBQ place if you're hungry!

I spent my first three years in the city living first one and a half blocks away from Stella Doro, and then only two and a half blocks away. I've popped in for a quick slice or two on numerous occasions after class or when drunkenly stumbling home. After three years living in such close proximity to this place - I have an entirely unreasonable infatuation with it. Because I know it is unreasonable I'm only awarding it three stars, but it gets five stars... in my heart (fuck, did I really just type that pappy crap?). Nonetheless, the truth is that the best thing I can say in good conscience about it is that it is ok pizza - or, rather, that it was ok pizza 3 years ago when I last had it.
Oh, the interior is not pretty - I suggest taking your slice to the park.
Long live Stella Doro!

I like the way that stelladoro does their slices: They keep lightly baked crusts with sauce and uncooked cheese in the warmer, and you pick out what toppings you want and they throw it in the oven for ten minutes and it's like they baked an entire pie, gave you your slice, and threw the rest away because you're that important.
That said, it's not on the same level as Escape from New York or Orgasmica, but it's decent and cheap and a few blocks away from me so it wins.
Be careful with the shaker labeled 'Garlic' unless you really like garlic powder.

Staff is really friendly and like everyone says - this is a place that you go to in between bar hopping or at the end of the night when you're heading home, but need a bit of hot food in you. Great pizza is hard to find in SF, so stop trying. This is seriously just sustenance.
The stars are for the nice people, and for hooking us up with extra slices just for the sheer hell of it. The pizza itself was decent. Lots of cheese, crispy on the bottom, yet a little doughy, for bread lovers. Not orgasmic, but just the ticket.
But stars taken off for the price. $4.50 for a meat pizza *slice*. Makes me want to cry. :( And it's not really a late-night joint.
Kinda small space too - good for tiny groups who want to eat a slice real quick on the stools by the window.
For best results, when mixing Stella Doro pizza with 821 experience (bar across the street) consume the *pizza* first.

I am biased as I used to live around the corner.
The 4 stars aren't for the quality of the pizza.
All in all, I've had worst and this isn't the worst.
This is where you go when you want more bang for your buck. This is where you go when you are poor and sick of Ramen. This is where you go and you're trashed and you only have a sticky five dollar bill in your pocket.

Neighborhood loyalty, boyeee!
Stella's is my go-to cheap pizza of choice. I was born & raised in the shadow of NYC, & this pizza obviously doesn't compare to any of the best New York has to offer, but it's got a lot going for it.
They're FAST. They've never kept me waiting at Stella's. Their pizza is CHEAP. Not to mention the fact that one slice is actually a giant slice cut in half (so two slices). Those dudes are really really nice.
If you're looking for a quick bite to eat latenight, or just something to tide you over, you can't go wrong.

Is it wrong that when I call for a pizza to be delivered, they know who I am, what I want, where I live and how I'll pay just by the sound of my voice? Yeah. Maybe I shouldn't order pizza so often.
But I can't help it. This shit is good. I have had by-the-slice there before, and I agree that it tastes different that the delivery stuff. I can't explain why, but there it is.
I love crust, and I'm a bit of a nut about it. I like doughy, soft crusts. And the crust at Stelladoro is perfect. It's crisp on the outside and doughy on the inside. After eating the slice, I usually scoop the hot dough out of the crisp crust and eat it, leaving crust tubes.
The pizza is always delivered on or before schedule (I live about 3 blocks away, so it doesn't have to go far), it is always piping hot, and the people are always friendly.
My only complaint is that I wish they would pretend not to know me so I wouldn't feel so guilty about ordering so much pizza instead of getting my lazy ass off the couch to cook some dinner.
ps -- I don't get what the hype is about Little Star. I tried it and wasn't really impressed. Maybe I'm just a pizza freak.

maybe i'm picky, but i just haven't found great pizza in this town yet (only been here 6 weeks, though). stelladoro is convenient, sells pizza by the slice, and you can be out the door in under 5 minutes, but the crust was not all that great, though the toppings weren't too bad. can't really comment on the service, since i basically received none ... i don't even remember the guy saying hello. but this isn't the kind of place you go for service or ambiance, just something to take the edge off the munchies, and it does do that.
Not good.
Not terrible.
Definitely not "just right."
Just kinda "meh."
I will never order from here again. It seems that most people's positive experiences have come from drunken slice-getting expeditions.
I, however, was not drunk. I was hungry.
And I was still hungry after I started making something else to eat after I had a couple slices from this pit.
All that for the low low cost of $32.93! Act Fast! Supplies are limited!
[Thank god.]

My yearning for a slice that brings me back to the East Coast is incredibly strong and, as of yet, my search continues to come up empty.
Stella Doro is passable. Out here, sadly, passable is tasting amazing. Of all the places I've tried out here, and there have been many, this is the only one that I can order if I'm craving pizza. Easily on the better end of the slices I've folded since moving out West.
Not quite home, but it'll do for now.
After spending 8 years in NYC, I know better than expect good pizza at great prices here in SF. So I wasn't that surprised to pay $2 for a slice of cheese pizza that was sub par. I agree with Gourmet G: crust was burntish and sauce had sour aftertaste. Crust was boring and tasted like pizza box.
Place was small, dirty and smelled like sweat. Ewe. :(

OK, I am from NY, and I liked this pizza. I'm not saying this is NY pizza - it is far from that - but it was good, cheap pizza to buy by the slice and eat after a few drinks, which is what pizza is best for.
My pizza crust wasn't burned - it was crisp on the outside and soft in the middle like it should be. The cheese was tasty, chewy, and stretchy. The sauce was unremarkable but it certainly did not detract from the experience.

This is my go-to place for a quick, cheap slice of pizza when I have neither the time nor cash for Little Star. The crust is always nice & crispy, and the toppings are fresh.
For some reason, their whole pies don't usually taste as good as the slices. I think the crust on the slices is cooked twice: once when they make it and put it in the fridge, and again when they pull it out, throw on some toppings, and pop it in the oven. So in the end it comes out crispier than a whole made-to-order pie that only gets cooked once.
But, if you do order a pie, I'd highly recommend eggplant, maybe with some garlic. The eggplant is breaded and deep-fried, so it's kind of like an inverted eggplant parmigiana on a crust. Unfortunately, you can only get eggplant when you order a whole pie. I guess it's too much hassle to fry up some eggplant for a single slice.
The sandwiches (I've tried eggplant parmigiana, chicken parmigiana) are huge and filling but kind of bland. Salads are nothing special. I'd only bother getting one if, like me, you feel a bit dirty eating a meal that doesn't include a nontrivial serving of veggies.
Service is friendly.

How sad is it that this place is a block away yet I went through http://delivery.com to get it?! I am the epitome of laziness.
However, that being said...pizza was decent....not the best, but good for a quick fix. I must say though that it came quickly, was a good price and the delivery guy was very friendly. I'd definitely go to them on a regular basis....Little Star kicks their ass, but Little Star is not cheap and they don't deliver.
Overall, 3.5 stars....Yelp, when can we expect to get half stars?! I never know whether to round up or down.

I LIKE Stelladoro. Their pizza is cheap, ooey, gooey, cheesey, and downright delicious. They also have the perfect sauce-to-cheese ratio. This is extremely important in pizza making. To be fair, they are only 3 blocks from my apartment so convenience plays a very large part in my patronage of them. Price is also a big motivator-something like $16 buys you a large one-topping. I get pizza there almost once a week. . .
I love this place and I'll hopefully be back. I thought the crust was okay and the crust is what really brings down my review. I mean it's the last portion of the pizza that I eat, so I want to be satisfied happy in the end and not wanting more. The staff is fun and personable and the ingredients on my pizza slice were fresh. I really like the start from scratch style i.e just a cheese pizza slice and build from there adding toppings to my hearts content (I had the vegetarian pizza slice). I think the experience of being the last customer of the day, heightens my enjoyment of the place and was a great first experience. Yummy Yummy in my Tummy!
My girlfriend, the infamous Davis Yelper Alyssa, told me about this great new pizza place on Divis. Of course i had to check it out. So we went walking down the streer together, looking for this fabulous new pizza place. Being the brilliant minds that we are, neither of us thought to look up the adress, or even the name. When we came upon Stella Doro, she figured, "This must be it." We went in, and the pizza was anything but spectacular. In fact, i had trouble getting through my order it was so sub par. In the end i gave my pizza to a homeless person, and felt guilty about subjecting him to the pizza.
True to my luck, as we were walking out of Stella Doro, we went up a block and found Little Star, at which point Alyssa gave an "Ah...That was it."
Little Star is next on my list

Ordered delivery... came fast, came hot, and it was the single easiest ordering experience I've had with a pizza place in SF.
Damn good pie, great crust, and the best part is that they weren't afraid of putting cheese on (unlike many pizza places in SF).
Tastes good, great quality toppings... the only thing preventing this from being a 5:
I ordered Buffalo Chicken Wings, I got Buffalo Quail Wings.
Let's see how this pie is tomorrow.

Great local spot. Quick Delivery or Pick-up. Very reasonable prices.
I like their pizza. They do a great pepperoni and the slices are pretty big. They also do a decent sandwich. And its all really cheap.
Would I ever eat there if I didn't live close by, probably not, but it is close by and its really good when you're in a pinch or feeling lazy.
I ordered my first Stella pizza, an extra large, half cheese (with extra cheese) and half mushroom and sausage, tonight at 6:00pm. I was told they had good pizza at a great price. At 6:30 the pizza was delivered, as told it would be when I ordered. The pizza was not as hot as it could of been, but tasted good. It wasn't as oily as your typical extra cheese pizza. For only $20, including tip, you can't beat it.
Bottom line: Decent pizza at a good price.
As long time regulars, we were shocked to get home delivery of a pie with burnt crust, sour sauce, and far too little cheese, and a Caesar salad with rancid croutons. To make amends, they comped our next order, which was equally bad. Five stars from three different yelpers? Either this place has changed ownership, or our New York Italian sensibility is more demanding than most.

Certainly not the best pizza in the city, glaringly highlighted by its location on the same block as Little Star. But for grabbing a couple slices on the walk home from work, I really couldn't have done much better. Two big slices (each cut in half) of pepperoni for five bucks? Not bad, especially considering the only other quick pizza nearby are Bus Stop & Mythic.

Having recently moved into the neighborhood and being well aware of and experienced with Little Star, I entered Stella Doro with the hope of discovering a cheaper, faster gem of a pizza parlor. I ordered a 12" 6-slice small Chicken Special, which is topped with marinated chicken, garlic, and mushrooms. It was decent. VERY garlicy, which I actually like, but it's gonna take my being impressed by something else on a return trip to get me to award any additional stars. Fortunately, there are plenty of things (other pizzas, appetizers, entrees, pasta, sandwiches, and salads) on Stella Doro's menu that I want to try.
very CHEAP! ... large slice of cheese plus one_topping is $2.00! ... wow! ... ok, it is not thin crust Italian pizza, nor is it like the square sliced pizzas they sell in the dives in Rome ... it is not your NYC pizza ...
IMHO, it is a very good generic_mushroom pizza joint ... for a measely $2.00 !! I give it an extra star for great price, a total of 3_stars .. i really liked it!
