When I travel and am away from home there is usually something food wise back home that I crave.
This past Sunday while standing and waiting for my bag to come out torn to shreds, and my brain a little mushy after an 11 hour flight it was nachos that came to mind.
I missed out Sunday due to a friend of mine whining about not ever seeing me and requested that I hang out there that evening and watch the Yankees/ Angels ALCS. As I sat there in the living room sipping on a Blue Moon I contemplated making up an excuse to leave and head out to Steelhead for a plate of nachos.
DENIED
Last night I was finally able to reunite with my love and cozied up to the bar with a tall glass of Broadway Blonde and a pipping hot fresh plate of chicken nachos. They certainly don't make 'em like this in Dublin or Moscow.
Good food and good company.
OK food, OK beer, OK atmosphere.
Came here on a busy Friday nite. 25 minutes for a table for 2...not bad. Actually only waited about 20 minutes. Atmosphere is pretty standard brewpub - brick building, family-style noise level. They have a billiard room that was pretty crowded with yuppie looking types. (at least it's not hipsters!)
Slim pickings for us vegetarians on the menu but that is the norm. Had a margharita pizza and a portobello sandwich with fries. Both were ok; no complaints. Had their seasonal(?) pale ale. Not bad - smooth with a nice hop finish. Not sure why a pale ale is a seasonal brew... Ordered a second one but the waiter brought me an IPA by mistake, which was not so good. Brewpubs have a tendency to over-hop their IPA's, and this one was no exception. It was so hoppy it was hard to finish. Other than that, it was a pretty average outing. I wasn't disappointed, but then my expectations weren't all that high...
Oi veyh, has this place gotten terrible in my book. I've been here a number of times for drinks and food - more often than not it's been for a celebration or a going-away party for a coworker, so I have a fair number of visits to base my review on.
First, let me say that I've also been to the original Steelhead Brewery up in Eugene, Oregon, and it kicks butt. So when I learned that this location is connected to the one in Eugene, the physical appearance and ambiance of the Burlingame location made perfect sense. It's a nice mix of an old brick-style building with humble/chic decor.
The Burlingame location is big. It's got very high ceilings and a nice open air feel. They brew their own beer on site, and the Blonde is great. The back-room is filled with pool tables and plenty of flat panel TVs for the sports nut that wants to chill with his buddies and not miss the game. All of these are big pluses. However...
When it comes to food and service, Steelhead falls flat on its face. The service seems to get slower every time I go, and the price of the entrees is absurdly high for the mediocre-at-best quality you get. The half-rack of ribs that I ordered was perhaps the worst that I've ever had - tasteless and lathered in some gunk that is being passed off as barbeque sauce. In my opinion, it was terrible.
As for service, on my most recent visit, my waitress was nowhere to be found whenever I needed her. I think I saw her three times - once when she came by to introduce herself, once to talk the order, and the last time to bring the bill... after I had the hostess chase her down. She didn't even bring us our food - somebody else did. Needless to say, this is one of the few times I've never tipped someone due to poor service.
Sadly, I wish I could say the above is the result of just one bad visit. But unfortunately bad food and bad service seems to be the trend from what I've personally experienced in my visits here. I really have a hard time justifying coming back here for food. The beers are ok, but I really can't recommend anyone spend money to eat here.
Burlingame is filled with restaurants within a few minutes walking distance. I suggest you go try out your other options and skip Steelhead. In my opinion, the apple dropped a long way from the tree, and this place does a disservice to the great name that Steelhead built for itself in Eugene.
Slow service, decent beer, pricey enterees for what you get. Hello Steelhead, can you say recession?

I will never go to this restaurant again. I went there with a couple of my friends and had dinner. We all decided to play pool after our meal and I gave them my credit card to pay for the table. At the end of the night it cost me $30 for a couple of hours of play which wasn't bad. I get home check my online banking and find out that I have a charge of $92 plus $10 in tips for drinks someone else ordered and SIGN FOR! I don't drink at all so I'm furious that they would allow someone to just purchase drinks on another person's tab. I feel the people that work in the Bar/Pool table area are all incompetent and rude. On a more positive note, the waitress who served us our food was very nice and professional. Maybe the workers from the Bar/Pool table area need to take some lessons from her. Thanks Elvira!
Good beer, I think the food is a little over priced, but it's good. Fri and Sat nights are usually packed, but the atmosphere is pretty good. The location is good, they have a small parking lot. Good for groups, I'd mostly just come for apps and beer.
I've been here plenty of times and have never been impressed by the food. The food is just there so that your beer can wash something down. Its pretty standard brewery/sports bar kind of food. Nothing special. They do have some very yummy seasonal beers. The beer is what keeps me coming back.
Really good beer. Decent food. Took my out of town guests there. Is it possible to get really good beer AND really good food in one location? Anyway, they make a good effort. Relaxing atmosphere. Kind of on the louder side. Tables, booths, back room with pool tables. Nice location for a walk after dinner.
This is a great place. It's similar to a BJ's setting but what I saw were more of the matured people. Well, we came for dinner & I had their Grilled Salmon (it's a fresh grilled salmon fillet topped with a tangy caper dill sauce, served with rice pilaf, & sauteed vegetables). The Salmon was fresh & delicious. It was not heavy to my stomach but a little heavy to the pocket (but it was worth it). My friends had the Barbeque Ribs & it was really huge in serving (it's a full slab of grilled beer braised baby back ribs, glazed with their housemade chipotle barbecue sauce), well I was able to taste it & it was not bad at all... but I still preferred my Salmon.
We were surprise that they have a Billiard Room (I could say, by the side), on the way to the restrooms. It allows 21 years up only & for me, the place is a high-end billiard place. We didn't have the chance to play anymore so I don't have an idea how much the price per game. Will be back for more food & a game of billiards :)

OVERPRICED.
If the prices had been reasonable, I'd have given them 3 stars. This is an okay place all around. Service is totally hit or miss and very much depends on which server you get. I've been going here for years, so I know most of the servers. The old-timers are generally prompt and good, but the newer ones are often problematic.
OVERPRICED
The food is basically not bad and acceptable. Their beer selections are fine and you can find any other drinks at the full bar. Outdoor seating is for smokers.
With all that said, do not forget the key word: OVERPRICED.
This is a great brewery style restaurant in an impressive building which I think used to be a fire station..
Great selection of beers, the Bombay Bomber IPA is great stuff.
Usual American style menu which goes down very well indeed after a few beers.
The pool hall and bar at the rear is great to kill time while waiting for a table - or for a post dinner drinks and games session.

Came here for a business meeting, I had the swordfish burger, delicious!
solid place to eat/drink
service is usually slow/not very good
food is good/simple/unhealthy
beer is great
atmosphere is nice and loud
when its warm i sit outside.
My fiance and I stumbled into Steelhead looking for some food to sober us up on for the drive back to the city on a Sunday afternoon (having just spent 3 hours at Nectar with copious amounts of wine). We love brewerys and couldn't believe we didn't know this existed! So in we went!
We were seated immediately and waited for our server. And then we waited. And waited. I told my fiance that I was ready to leave and grab some Mexican food instead, when finally, after at least 15 minutes of waiting without so much as a nod in our direction, our waiter came. He was nice enough. The food came out quickly. It was fine. The check came very slowly. The waiter came back for the check even more slowly. It just wasn't a winning experience.
The only positives to our trip here were: it sobered us up (but most food would do that) and it has a ton of pool tables near the bathrooms--very cool. I was really sad. I wanted to find a great, unique brewery that wasn't a big chain, but I guess maybe for breweries the big chains just do it better...
Suffice to say, save yourself the heartache, the time, and some money, and go to BJ's.

This is no place for a diet..well most of the food I get here...but the food is yummy! My favorite to nibble on here are the cheese fries with the side of ranch! The nachos are good too as well as the teriyaki chicken wings, my friend loves the buffalo wings. These finger foods are perfect for sharing with a buddy as the portions are big. The cajun penne's sauce has the right amount of spiciness with creaminess and is a hearty way to fill up on carbs and meat. When I was being a good girl, I ordered the grilled portobello sandwich, it was very flavorful and meaty tasting with lots of herbs & garlic being used and came with a side salad.
Hopefully I'll see you again soon to finally try some of your beer and for some yummy cheese fries Steelhead...*drools*

Went here for lunch. Ordered cream of mushroom soup and fish and chips.
Soup - alright. Didn't taste any mushroom flavor.
Fish and Chips - Fish tasted fishy aka not fresh. Mountain of fries on my plate were over-cooked, and therefore tasted bad. Cole slaw was ok; too heavy on the dressing.
2 stars for a really nice looking restaurant; maybe this place is better for drinking vs. eating (but I saw another table eating salad, and those salads looked good).
I had a great peppered bacon cheeseburger with fries.
Be sure to get the sampler, because you get to try all eight varieties of beer (4 oz. each) for only $8.50. Their Belgian-style beer is the best one.
The pool room in the back is gorgeous, and I may have to come back to play.
Atmosphere : open, bustling, cool building, booths & tables, nice bar, outdoor seating w/ heat lamps, loud, friendly.
Billiard Room : very high end atmosphere - not a typical scarred up bar-table - 7 or 8 full sized well kept tables with a nice bar and a few tvs for the game. Kinda douchey on weekend nights, but what u expect in bgame?
Food : solid, nuthin outstanding, but solid pizzas, salads (try the sante fe with steak) - Burgers n Sandwiches tend to be over cooked. Its got a good enough variety for most tastes - overall fairly tasty but 'regular'. Not too expensive.
I'm not the biggest fan of beer, but that doesn't stop me from having it every once in a while. I tried the Barracuda Blonde and Hairy Weasel *giggle* Hef, and they weren't bad. I did have to stop with the Hef after a while because warm beer is just down right gross. While waiting for dinner, I sampled the calamari and Steelhead wings with brewed hot sauce. Thumbs up for those! The grilled chicken sandwich I ordered was really juicy, with the spiced honey mustard sauce adding just the right amount of kick to it. After dinner, our group hung out in the pool hall/bar area. I think next time I'll put in a game. Hopefully I don't end up chucking the cue ball at someone. I'm a little rusty. =P

Great place to hang with friends, drink specialty beers, eat great food and play some billiards! Pretty busy on Weekend nights. Lots of amazing salads and sandwiches.
Honestly I genuinely liked this place, I went there for a company function where we rented the whole pool hall portion of the bar, and also for lunch on several occasions. The beer is good (though a bit pricey) my personal fav is the wonderfully named Hairy Weasel Hefeweizen.
The food is pretty damn good (among my favorites in the downtown Burlingame area) and reasonably priced for the generous portions and that decor is a lot of fun, complete with the rustic brick wall and thrown like seats. Really recommend the Fish and Chips (12.25) - big enough to split for two ($1 split charge) which comes with a side jalapeno slaw.
Worth checking out if you're spending the day in Burlingame.

I like the atmosphere here. I've only been here twice, but both times were excellent.
I had the fish&chips which were light and wonderful and also had a honey vanilla root beer. I'm not a big fan of root beer but I really enjoyed the honey vanilla flavor.
Service was good, food came in a timely manner. Not much else to say.
Never had a bad meal here you can't beat the Blue Burger and Onion Rings. Great waiters - Great Service - Great Food. End of story.

I really dislike this place. I've gone here for lunch, dinner and drinks and every single time, I leave thinking I wasted my time, money and calories on something that was not worth it. The ONLY reason I keep returning because it's where people insist on going, especially since it's close to my work.
I really don't believe that the food is good at all. I'm sorry to be the one to have to admit it, but it just is not good. The service is okay, slow, but every now and then you'll get a really nice server who is attentive. The crowd is the typical Burlinglame crowd, people who expect to be waited on hand and foot. The drinks are nothing special. And there is no Happy Hour.
I will say this though. There is a big pool room in the back, that is great for large parties. That is the only section that is worth it, but I feel like it closes kind of early, so check that before you make that your night.
Overall, this place is a big whatever.

Food is OK....
Service is OK....
Beer is OK....
Nothing really special about this place, I think it used to be more popular, but now you have more places you can go with better food, drinks, service and pricing.
Excellent selection of micro brews and brewhouse foods! A huge room in an old building near the CalTrain Station. Great place to wind down after an afternoon Giants game. Just disembark the CalTrain, walk a block or so and enjoy yourself. A friendly staff and atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Went to this place to meet a friend for drinks. This friend is a beer connoisseur, so we had nachos and a couple of beers here. The nachos were so-so I thought, but the beers were pretty awesome!
The way the front building and the billiard room areas connect seem really disjointed, and I don't think facilitated good flow for the space. I wouldn't be surprised if they were two separate buildings that were mashed together later. The decor and feel of the space was just average. I probably wouldn't come back here again if not for the delicious beers that they brew there!
So, if you are a beer-lover, I'd highly recommend that you check this joint out. If not, it's no big miss.

Not bad... Sad they run out of some beers rather quickly, but they're good nonetheless. Bar is a little slow when it's busy, not the friendliest wait staff I've ever seen. Hostess looked like she was 12...
Jambalaya was way too salty, wings were okay, I had the blackened swordfish sandwich once, which was nicely done. I heard the fish and chips were supposed to be good- will be my next meal there.
Wish they took reservations for less than 8, though.
This used to be a decent place and food is still semi decent but the service and long wait to get seated isn't worth it. And good luck finding parking on the weekend!
I'm only going to review the back room. Upon entering, the space is hella big and hella nice. Limited amounts of chairs, but I suppose if you are playing pool, that's a good thing!
The drinks weren't all that, the bartenders were nice when receiving their tips, but hella mean when on the floor (to rotate the dish bin).
Boss 30th birthday part was held here. I had fun networking and talking, but overall, it was just a-ok. Didn't eat but the buffalo wings did look tasty!
It was really nice to actually have space to move around as opposed to bumping into strangers (that arent part of your group).

I really like this place.
I took a date here the other day and we really enjoyed ourselves. Note: If you get nachos as an appetizer and it's only 2 of you, make sure you get the half order. We ordered the full order and the thing was HUGE!
I had the Ostrich Burger. I was intrigued reading it in the menu. She dared me to try it, so I did. It was a really good burger.
Okay, the other stuff. They have different flavored beer, which was cool. If you're a beer drinking kinda person, this is cool to check out.
They have a nice bar, selection was pretty cool.
They also have a billiards room in the back by the bathroom. That came out of no where, I wasn't expecting it at all. It was like 6 or 8 tables maybe, full-sized like the pros. And this room has it's own lil mini-bar too, which was cool.
I'll be back one day, prolly.

Good salads and decent service. Food (sandwiches) can be greasy and my fries tasted a little fishy. Shouldn't be eating them anyway but I was not happy. They replaced it with a salad that was better than expected.
For the price, I think this place is just fine and good place if meeting up with friends.
Good food overall but it vaires from time to time...Love the beer selections just tried the dementia ale wow powerfull and tasted great...this place offers a good place to go solo of with a large group...they have a back room with a seperate bar and pool tables...if looking for good food great beer check this place out
Pros:
-Tasty beer: I like the pale ale and chocolate stout. Next time I'll ask for a scoop of ice cream in the stout.
-Heated outdoor patio
-Brownies were warm and with slightly crisp edges...yum
Cons:
-Had the sampler and didn't care for half of them
-Food prices were too expensive for me
-The ostrich burger was disappointing...where was the flavor??
Bottom line: I wouldn't go out of my way to hang out here, but it was still better than decent. So basically, "good."
I thought this place was chill and a good place to hang out for a good size crowd. The pool room in the back is nice. Having sofas as you wait for your turn or just spectate while enjoying you drazzank is something I appreciated. The decently priced beer too was not to shabby.
To me their beer was really good!
It's one of my favorite local breweries in the Bay Area and I can't get enough of their Blonde ales! I always order a Tall Blonde and their sausage trio appetizer which comes with kraut, spicy mustard, a rosemary baked pretzel! Perfect combination with a beer! Had the crispy chicken ceasar salad but it was meh.
Parking is spotty but you can try finding parking in their tiny lot or on the street.
Dana was our server last night and well, she was awesome! Great customer service!
This place feel authentic with the exposed layered brick walls and its furniture.
Watch out for their blondes, they made me pretty toasty!

This is for their back pool room! Steelhead is such a great place to meet people for a happy hour or a get together - I have been there two times recently and each time they have been uber friendly and accommodating even with a larger group of people. I love that they have a back room with a bar and a bartender (don't have to go to the main bar)!
Their wines and beers are perfect for a group outing and I have never had to make a reservation. Just walked in sat down and my friends and I had a great time. Their fries are pretty yummy too!
I recommend their beer - the blonde ale I had was very good. Although recently their wines have not been bad either - for a brewery their selection is pretty impressive. Check this place out when you are around Burlingame!

I have been quite an ambassador for this joint through the years....but I must say I was not quite impressed on Monday. The quesadilla came without guacamole. The sausage plate had more sauerkraut than sausage. The calamari was not the same as the dish I once LOVED! And where was the crowd? Place stood close to empty during Monday Night Football! Six empty pool tables? Seats everywhere. It was so slow the waitress was giving us excess attention, so much it was awkward.
On the flip side, the Broadway Blonde is still a great beer I can drink all day, and I still like their outdoor seating in Burlingame's warm weather.

Being new to the area I was pleasantly surprised with the excellent service, good beers and all of the friendly people. The pool hall in back looked top notch, but I have yet to partake of that activity.
The billiards room in the back is an awesome place to throw a company function. I should know since my company did just that today.
I had a chance to try two of the beers on tap, both were ales (they had no lagers), and of which I only remember the name of one: Barracuda Blonde. The beer itself was ok, a pretty standard pale ale. I'm bias towards Gordon Biersch ales though, so you probably shouldn't listen to me.
There were also appetizers out, some fresh veggies with dipping sauces, quesadillas, hot wings (which had the perfect amount of spice), and the pizza. THE pizza. These tasted like wood-fire pizzas. They were amazingly thin, crunchy, cheesy, and absolutely delicious. There were three kinds: pesto chicken, margherita, nd cheese. In the end, all that mattered was the cold brewskies on tap, the pizza, and the pool tables.
There were 6 tables and all seemed were pretty well maintained, at least it looked that way. There were also plenty of cue sticks of different sizes for everyone, no matter your height.
After a few hours of playing pool and mingling with co-workers, I thought to myself, "Wow, this was a pretty cool place to hang out after a day's worth of meetings!"
I grow weary of the Steelhead. The menu hasn't changed much over the past few years, and they've dropped some of our favorites. The dinner food is pretty good, but not great.
Good beers, though--and two really excellent root beers. Their home-brew root beer is one of the best I've had.
I'd recommend Steelhead more for lunch than dinner, though with the back grownups-only room it'd be a good guys-night-out place.
