I got to hang out at the Steamhouse this afternoon with a friend.  Very fun, funky place with good seafood and great drinks.  We started downstairs where I had a cocktail and the shrimp/scallop quesadilla, which I quite enjoyed, and then headed upstairs.  The downstairs is non-smoking and has a small dining area, with what looked like an outdoor patio no one was using, while the upstairs has a bar with a smoking area and a nice, large deck area that overlooks the northern part of downtown.  Fun, unpretentious, homey.  I quite enjoyed my time there this afternoon, and would recommend it to anyone who's looking for a good down-home watering hole with some tasty seafood.

I am so glad Steamhouse is back! I was so sad with it's departure at it's Buckhead location and dreamt about when their lobster bisque would return...my dreams came true, it's back!!!

I love their laid back atmosphere and you don't feel weird being covered in seafood by the end of your meal...there is no fancy way in my book to crack open some yummy crab legs or shuck some oysters.

My favorite treats from this restaurant are the lobster bisque, crab legs and frogmore skillet!!! And a cold beer which there is plenty of.

The staff has always been great when I go there...very friendly and welcoming. The patio and upstairs is awesome!

So I'd actually only been to the legendary Buckhead location a few times. And I know it got a lot of love. And I would even give it some love for it because it sustained twenty-ish years of trends, buckhead-ers and the ebb and flow of constant changing out of booty bars and more surrounding them.

So minus any reminiscent stories from the first locale (except for a bowl of soup with a coworker), I will say that the midtown location is better.

Why, you ask?

- Feels cleaner

- Huge arse patio. Awesome huge arse patio.

Hurts so good:

- Kitty, who has been with Steamhouse forever (or like twenty years or so), is the hostess with the mostess. Super sweet, loves the management and owners (they're a great company, she exclaimed!) and informed me that over half the staff from the original locale followed 'em to Midtown.

- One word, said very slowly to sound like two: po- (pause) boy. I love me a po-boy and am glad to get a decent shrimp one very much ITP.

- um, helloo? Oysters, baby. Oysters. Raw and juicy. Not sure if it is for all time or changes, but they have a dozen oysters for five bucks on Wednesdays.

- Music makes for a fun atmosphere. Even during lunchtime, its the kind that will lighten a business lunch, make you dance a little in your chair, and wish you had a cocktail so you could really get up and dance.

- And if you do get that cocktail, close your eyes, go to the patio, sweat a little bit, and you'd nearly swear you were on a beachfront vacationing instead of off of W. Peachtree traffic.

Things not to like?

- freakin' parking. hard stuff it is. The first time I went, I ended up paying five bucks for a lot, and the second, made the block and found a free spot. So come prepared and budget that into your night!

I woulda given it 3 stars if it wasn't for their pathetic attempt at the Lobster Roll and Bisque. Hell, I wished Blais left some liquid nitrogen in the kitchen... it woulda prolly tasted better if it was frozen. Give me some Tabasco dipping dots to go with my garbage of the sea roll and cup of Campbell's finest pweez.

Robster Roll- I did get robbed, at almost $13, you would expect more than a plastic basket with a poppyseed hotdog bun that is sprinkled with minced claw meat... I couldn't tell if it was lobster or crawfish. The rest of the "looster" musta high "tailed" it outta there... but they did leave me a tiny  cup of "drawn butter". This clarified butter tasted like lobster urine. The meat was dry and naked with zero dressing on it... at least put a Jimmy Hat on it so it can't procreate. Pweez leave the real lobster roll to the Yankees!

Robster Bisque- I substituted the side of fwies or whatever filler they had for this "Two Claws and a Cup" of ocean cock-a-roach vomit for an extra $2 fiddy... whadda mistake, like my ex-girlfriends! This bisque was too watery, not enuff cream, seasonings, mirepoix and /or sherry. It's so pedestrian... that Trader Joe's lobster bisque could be a contender.

Oysters on da Half- Not bad oysters but it always scares me when you can't see them shuck 'em fresh. It's like a nightmare with all those opened oysters dangling off the shell at a low rent Chino buffet. You're just asking for a weekend getaway at the dialysis clinic. But since I'm still alive and complaining, I can safely say they are edible at the SteamHo.

0 stars for the service, I had to go up to the server station to get silverware for the table.

1 star for the $5/dozen oysters on Wednesdays, would be better shucked in front of you vs. from the kitchen.

1 star for the $1 bottles of Imperial on Tuesdays, I'd buy that for a dolla that will make me holla!

This House seems to lose Steam with every restaurant that has been here before... It's a nice space and location, just keep it fwesh and simple with the seafood menu and do more weekly booze specials or suffer the same fate as the rest. And get rid of the lobster roll because it mocks the modern free world of this northern delicacy. It's like claiming southern fwied yardbird can be had in Maine.

Awww...

Shucks!

Woo hoo!  The bisque is back!  Seriously, this is the best lobster bisque I've had.  It is so flavorful and not too rich and sticky - so many bisques suffer this sad fate.  The bisque is enough for me to give a very good rating but there were other good things, too.  There was a good and normal-looking happy hour/early Friday night crowd.  There were a lot of people but it wasn't cramped because it's a pretty good-sized place.  The patio is great (you even can get a sunset view) and it is nice, relaxing, not-too-cheesy spot in Midtown.  I look forward to returning here for more seafood and MORE BISQUE.  And, they have a dozen oysters for $5 on Wednesday nights for anyone who's interested.

This place in my opinion is a bit over rated since it's departure from Buckhead to Midtown Atl, but I do hope that it stays open. Atleast longer than the other restaurants (how many 1, 2, 3, 4 in the past what? 5 years maybe?) that have graced this plot of land. I think this retail/ restaurant space is haunted with bad business ghosts. No business ever stays long. ......

I never stepped inside so until I do I can't say how the interior looked or what type of vibe was released, but the outside 2 story patio and deck is definitely a chill and relaxing place to go after a long day at work.

I had the opportunity to join some friends for happy hour (minus the happy hour specials) here, and immediately found a table to seat 4 on the upstairs deck. The place wasn't technically busy but it was steady.

Let's just get right to it shall we. My friends ordered the lobster bisque as did I, the tuna melt substituted with some type of fish other than tuna (I don't remember) and the peel and eat shrimp and raw oysters and also a catfish Po Boy. The prices aren't bad at all. Maybe $8, $10, and $20 here and there.

The lobster bisque was tasty, and I heard from my company that the Po Boy, the shrimp, and the oysters hit the spot as well. Here are the complaints though and this is what does it for me. The service was unbelievably slow. We were sooooo thirsty. lol Out of 4 people everyone ordered the bisque and everyone ordered a meal. Only 3 people received their meal....whaaaat? Was the waiter trying to tell me something? lol I had just gotten off of work people. I was a bit hungry as well as thirsty. Once we were able to re order some drinks I politely asked when I could be expecting my food. He looked at me in a genuinely surprised way and said "You haven't gotten it yet." Nope, sure haven't. He delivered the drinks and retrurned 15 minutes later to ask me if I still wanted my sandwich. Are you kidding sir? I said nah, because I had already been sitting there for an hour waiting for it, my friends had finished their meals, and everyone was pretty much ready to go. Needless to say I left starving and highly disappointed, but atleast I had the lobster bisque to tie me over while my friends enjoyed their meals. lol

I'll give you another try Steam house but i'm hoping you have added on to your staff and their skills have improved.

Decent place. I never ate at the old location, but was able to eat with some friends last night at the new one. We had a myriad of dishes including:

Lobster Bisque
Mussels
Oysters Rockefeller
Shrimp Po-Boy
Fried Pickles
Fries
Crab Dip

All was pretty tasty. I personally like the vibe of Spondivits a little better, but this sure is convenient. Now if our server was just a little more together.

I'll have to go back to see how the food is again, but it certainly was good enough for me to want to go back (so that's a plus)!

Moving Steamhouse Lounge to Midtown was a great move. Occupying the old Cherry/Element space, there's plenty of room. Big bar downstairs and wrap-around deck upstairs and a patio out back. Some of the old Buckhead bar even made it including the bar-top and the bottle rack. They're even hoping Oysterfest will follow, if they get permission to shut down 11th Street.

Great place, multiple levels including a bar on each and of course huge patios. The one upstairs over looks downtown and a nice sky view in my opinion. The second patio is on the back side and much large, it wasn't open due to the place being new and not packed (yet!).

The food was great, the oysters were HUGE and of good quality but my only gripe was that there was no small forks or no raw horse radish. The horse radish was mixed in with the cocktail sauce too. Lobster bisque was OH MY GOODNESS good and it was worth the heavy cream in it trust me.

All in all it was a great place, and I believe it will be packed in the future to come.

Had an after dinner drink & desert on the wrap-around deck.  Great little hide-a-way type of place.  The table behind me was having oysters - they were large and according to the diners - tasted delicious.  Prices are very reasonable.  1/2 dz oysters only $6.95 - a dozen for $8.95.  They have a raw bar sampler for $29.00 - great idea for more than one couple. One word of caution - don't park in the large parking lot behind the building - you will be towed!  Either park on the street (good luck) or valet at the underground parking.  Bon Appetite

Spent a cool and comfortable Friday evening on the rooftop deck at the Steamhouse Lounge. I have to say...I was never a fan of the location in Buckhead. The food was good enough and there was good people watching...but eventually, some of those people manage to find their way to the table next to you. I also was completely shell-shocked by a horrifying first date there that included too many martinis and my date calling the valet a racial slur.

I digress.

I have managed to work through my issues with Steamhouse. I love the new location - they really lightened up the place. It's like the old Steamhouse but better-ish. They went out of their way to sort of dumpify the building that once housed Cherry and Element. The rooftop deck under the trees is *fabulous* - a new relatively close spot for drinks and noshes.

The food was quite good. We sampled a bit of everything. The crab dip was good and fresh with warm pita on the side. We tried a sampler of the broiled oysters topped 3 ways - Rockefeller is my favorite of the three. My companion had the lobster bisque - always amazing. We split the frogmore skillet with some crab legs on the side. The portion of the sausage in the skillet was chintzy, to say the least. Everything else in it was fresh and tasty.

I will say that I think the wine list is WAAAAAAAY overpriced.I ended up paying $7.50 for a glass of white that sells for around $6 in the store...and we're not talking about a generous pour here. Our server was so sweet and cute....and SLOW...but we didn't care because she had so much personality.

A great (and casual!) addition to the Midtown area...

Lord.. Terrible Terrible Oyster Rockefeller.. there was so much cheese and spinach and a quarter size dried shrunken oyster.. I had to Tabascos sauce it like mad to enjoy it. My lobster bisque was not as thick as what I am used to and you could barely taste the lobster, it tasted more like shredded pieces of crab, sorry whatever people think, the bisque is suppose to be creamy, rich, and a heart attack happiness in a bowl.
My friend ordered the garlic shrimp that was suppose to be 1 pound, it came out in alittle bowl size of a cereal or salad bowl, and it tasted like cheap frozen salad shrimps tossed in a garlic butter mish mash. The waitress service was terrible, our waitress was not in the mood to work, but rather chatted up a storm with her friends. I asked for a glass for my overpriced Sam Adams.. and never got one. Will I come back? Maybe to try the lobster roll.. but for now I am VERY unimpressed with the seafood spread I tried. Made me mad I had to put down 20.00 bucks for crap.. I would have had to much food somewhere else, and be satisfied.. like at a Taco Bell perhaps. Oh the place was also really cheap on the AC.. it was getting a little warm in there.

I was happy to hear they re-opened this joint in Midtown. I was never a huge fan of the Buckhead scene, but I always felt like Steamhouse Lounge was the one bar in Buckhead that had any dignity. It was never a pickup joint or a trendy club, it was just a cool neighborhood bar. And from what I can tell, the new location will have the same vibe. Everybody raves about the lobster bisque, rightly so, but don't overlook the crab dip, or as I call it, the "crack dip". Order it once and I promise you'll be back to order it again.

Quick lunch at the steamboat lounge.  When I saw the words "Award Winning" next to their lobster bisque, I had to try it.  I ordered me up a polish sausage with sauerkraut and jalapeno toppings with a cup of the lobster bisque.  The lobster bisque was decent.  Tomato flavoring (if that is what is it) was stronger than I would expect in a lobster bisque.  Now, I don't know much about lobster in general but I wasn't sure if I would call it "Award Winning".  There was a spicy kick when I got to the bottom end of the bisque and the flavor did start to kick in.  I got ridiculed for ordering a polish sausage at a seafood place; however, it was on the menu and I was in the mood for hot dog.  The polish sausage was pretty good too.  Nothing special but it was a seafood place after all.

A group of 11 of us went to Steamhouse for a chill, worknight birthday get-together, and this place fit the bill perfectly.  Since the number of people in the group grew gradually from 2, to 4, to 7, and finally to 11, in the course of over an hour, it was great how accommodating the staff was about us adding chairs on the outside patio upstairs around the little banquettes, to us finally deciding to move to two joined tables inside.  They changed the flat-screen closest to us to the Olympics, kept us watered, beered, and shellfished all night.  They even brought out a surprise slice of their key lime pie and candle for the birthday girl.  I don't even like key lime pie, and that thing was pretty good.  More like cheesecake with a tart, but mild, key lime finish.

Oh, and the quality of the seafood was good too.  Not awesome, but good. The $5/dozen oysters special on Wednesdays was some welcomed recession relief.  Good-sized oysters.  I'm a West Coast girl so I'm quite partial to our Fanny Bays, Hog Islands, and Kumamotos that we can get all year round, but being in Atlanta, we have to settle for the Gulf oysters during the summer.  These, for what they were, were quite clean-tasting, and I only got one bad oyster per dozen...which for Atlanta is not too shabby in a casual seafood joint.  The Old Bay and Garlic Steamed Shrimp were not what we were expecting, thinking they were going to be large, shell-on shrimp that we peel and eat.  Instead, they came much smaller, already de-shelled, tail-off, and simmered in an Old Bay broth.  Eat-it-with-a-fork shrimp (meh).  Great flavor though.  We also got the Steampot Seafood Boil (serves 2-4) and that was very good too, crab legs, clams, oysters, even side fixin's like some corn on the cob and new red potatoes.  Much better value than what you get at Six Feet Under.

All in all, a great casual place to hang out and do some interactive eating of some reasonably-priced seafood, drink beer, and watch a game on TV.

Oh, and with respect to parking, all of our group found plenty of it on 11th Street between Peachtree and West Peachtree.

I have never eaten anything here except the lobster bisque and salad.  Oh wait....one time I did try the seafood quesadilla, the first bite of which I spit out into a napkin. Seriously.  Something about the various textures--seafood, flour tortilla, what tasted like 4 gooey melted Kraft singles---made my stomach flip flop before bite one could skate down my esophagus.  Our waiter said "Don't worry I'll eat it," as if I gave a shit what happened to it after it left our table...

But still, I give this place three stars bc/ the bisque is the shit.  It's loaded with chucks of lobster and tastes even better when you crush up 8 or 10 saltine crackers and toss them into the mix.

I also feel better about myself after chatting with the "barmaid," who often tells me of her crazy life whilst I eat.  Our most interesting  conversation regarded a thief with whom she did "the wild thang" (her words, not mine).  And after our discussion I feel it necessary to warn all the ladies out there.  So without further ado I offer--

Clues You May Be Dating a Thief

Clue #1:  After sex, your conquest casually asks for your mother's maiden name.

Clue #2:  You find your social security number on a slip of paper in his pants pocket.

Clue #3:  Shortly after 1 and 2 occur, your bank calls to alert you that someone tried to get a loan using your info

Clue #4:  Wild thang steals your credit card and charges up a bunch of stuff online.

Apparently barmaid flunked Common Sense 101 b/c she did not consider getting out of said "relationship" until AFTER #4 occurred.

Plus 1 star for the Jerry Springer Lite-esque entertainment.

my stars are for the old location where you could sit outside.. and look over buckhead..
the lobster bisque is the best i have tasted.. and the 1 1/2 lb of crab is our staple.. Lori can eat it in 5.2 seconds flat..  They usually cook the crab just right an season it with Seasoned Salt or something like that..  sometimes the crab is overcooked, but its not the norm.

2 Words:  Lobster Bisque!   It's so good, I flew a container down to my parents in Florida.  You can get the bisque alone or with one of their fish sandwiches which aren't bad.  People also seem to enjoy the crab legs and oysters.  The lofted terrace provides a nice beachy oyster bar feel, and because it's elevated, the dreary view of the buckhead village below goes all but unnoticed. A delight for lunch any day of the week.

I would have thought it impossible to find a good place for seafood in Buckhead that didn't have the beer soaked frat boy atmosphere ingrained into the place. Steamhouse Lounge has the look and feel of a place you'd find in Savannah or South Carolina, not right in the middle of Buckhead.

The portions are very generous here, so don't order too much to start with unless you've got a stomach that can handle it. Steamhouse offers any and every fried seafood item you can come up with. It's not the healthiest meal, but sometimes you need a cold beer and a big plate of fried clams to offset the trips to the gym and salads. The terrace is an added bonus to this place, good atmosphere and another feature that makes it feel like you're not in Buckhead anymore.

This place rocks.  Not expensive and a good variety of seafood.  I usually get the lobster bisque and tuna melt combo.  However, I have also gotten their oysters and fish fish platter.  The fish platter or plate is a ton of food good for more than one person.  They have an outside terrace perfect for spring of fall.  There used to be a huge tree for shade, but I'm guessing it got crusty and had to be chopped down.  Beer and oysters.  How can you go wrong?

Sister restaurnat to Fontaine's in the Highlands, the Steamhouse has been a Buckhead Village staple for years.  The simple menu of steamed seafood and a smattering of sandwiches is consistant and reliable.  The tiny restaurant gets quite crowded, especially when th eweather breaks.  They opened an additional dining room next door for the overflow.  The lobster bisque is a real crowd pleaser.  The resataurnat does not have a fryer, so no fried seafood or fries and the like.

If you've got a hankering for oysters, this place will fix you right up. This is the best oyster bar in town. Similiar to Spondivits, this place has little pretention. All the drinks come in plastic cups and the amibience feels like a Floridian beachside eatery. What people come here for, and what I come here time and time again for is the oysters. The steamed oysters come genrously in a huge metal bucket and the raw oysters are shucked and plated on a bed of ice. They also have raw clams, which I tried once but it tastes too fishy to me. The drinks are really great and they offer a lot of mixed drinks with rum, in keeping with the whole Florida theme. My one gripe about this place and this is just me is that it's located in Buckhead. But I will grit my teeth nevertheless and venture to this gem of a  restaurant. Oh and you must order the lobster bisque, it is absolutely wonderful and reminds me of lobster bisques in Monterray California.
