When is this hotel opening ? I know it's this year but what month this year?
A:
I have tried every website and can't find a phone number to call and see. A lot of the comments are from 2017 saying they will be closed for 2 years for renovations. It's 2020.. so wondering if they are up and running by now. Anyone in the LA area… more

I was looking forward to staying at this hotel with my wife, I already knew that it wouldn't be top notch accommodations but we were fine with it, Simply looking forward to staying in a hotel with so much history. The entrance to the hotel was beautiful, It was nice that they kept some of the "Hotel Cecil" signage, I couldn't stop snapping pictures. Going up the floors, You could really see how aged this hotel was, It was still a unique experience, Although, The rooms were SMALL.
The disappointment that was our experience was the fact that there was no air conditioning, I didn't know that I needed to ask about it before booking a hotel, I guess it was my mistake?
It was so hot, We couldn't handle it, We needed to leave to find another place to stay. We would have been absolutely miserable.
When we went downstairs to talk to them about us having to leave, They state, "Well, We don't advertise that we have air conditioning." My thoughts, Shouldn't you be up front and honest about it, So your guests know what they're getting into when they're staying with you? It's actually kind of dishonest. I had a feeling that they deal with this day in and day out. =/
The two nights that we were staying were already paid for in full and they were giving us a difficult time about refunding the money. The said that they would only be able to refund half, Then they were trying to convince us to purchase the suite which is the one room with air conditioning, It was $150.00 more a night.
It took some time but they finally agreed to refund our money, Thank goodness.Helpful 21Thanks 0Love this 14Oh no 0 - Tiffany H.Los Angeles, CA0207Feb 6, 2019
I'm writing this because I saw one of reviews said the price is fair, and all hotels in LA start from 450$. ARE YOU KIDDING? Intercontinental, the newest fancy hotel in town, even Friday night, only 200 bucks. You think 150$ for this hotel is fair? You must never lived in a hotel.
I live only couple blocks away and I was wondering how creepy the hotel is, so I paid one night to stay with my friends. Not great experience. Hotel lobby itself is beautiful and old fashion but made me felt scary. Room itself was creepy too, not that clean to me. Just not feel good. Maybe is not hotel's fault, only history related.
Show some pics for price about OTHER hotel.Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 21Oh no 0 - Wave S.Mid City, Los Angeles, CA02Feb 22, 2021

I had booked the hotel online after liking how it looked but when I researched it I only saw ghost stories and creepy things. Nonetheless we stayed and it was a pretty cool place. Being that we stayed int he hostel part of the hotel we had to share bathrooms but we never once had to wait nor were they ever dirty. Friend and I super enjoyed the stay and the staff were extremely helpful with whatever we asked. Thank Eli, Kevin and that one gentleman that could speak German, never caught his name. Oh. and awesome location!

I stayed in this hotel when it was still the Cecil. It was mostly full of homeless people like myself. It was my first time staying in a place with shared bathrooms and showers, but it was very cheap at the time. I loved the art deco building and really hope they don't remove those features with the remodel. I also wasn't aware of the history at the time, but I'm a true crime junkie so it definitely makes it more interesting. I'm off the streets now (have been for 14 years) but I would love to spend a night there again after the remodel.

An experience to be remembered...
No bathrooms or shower in your room..
You multiple bathrooms on the floor with our neighbors.
Wouldn't be too bad, if they had it set up a little nicer.
You only get 2 towels in your room, so after showering, stepping straight into your shoes after you dry them with the same towl you'll still be using on your hair is a little annoying..
They have those toilet seat covers you can use, but no trash can to throw them in...
The shampoo in the shower was almost out, and you have no idea how often they clean the restrooms.
The rooms aren't bad.
The bedding was slightly itchy.
No heat or ac in the room.
It actually isn't as bad as it sounds... But it does really sound bad.
There are 6 computers in the lobby that are available free and for 24 hour use, which is cool.
I wouldn't stay here again, but whatever. It was an experience I'll laugh about later.Helpful 8Thanks 0Love this 13Oh no 0 - 10890210Jul 1, 2017
NOPE. This place is not on fleek. The beds were like laying on concrete slabs. There is no central heat or air, the walls are extremely thin, the room, bathrooms and hallways are oddly tiny. I am talking not enough room to swing open a door tiny. And it looks like they closed down for good.

Iv been hostels in Europe and NOTHING is worst than this hotel (hostel) After the second night I felt a PRESENCE in my room and heard water dripping from the ceiling. I didn't know the history of this hotel since I yelped the ratings (which I probably should of done first) .
I had my own bathroom and bedroom both private (suite) . I was on the 14th floor.
The pics you see on the website are NOT the actual room you'll get.
EVERYTHING you see on the reviews I agree with.Helpful 41Thanks 0Love this 18Oh no 0 - Esther W.Irvine, CA208196404Dec 6, 2014
I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about.
With tax, each night was $68, and this was a private room with a queen sized bed and shared bathroom (ie, bathroom and shower for the floor.)
Now the bathroom is a small ass little closet with a toilet in there. You dont even have a sink to wash your hands. The sink is in your room.
The room was small, but super nice. There were drawers underneath the beds for storage, and there were complimentary towels, bottle of lotion and soap. Bed was comfy, pillows a little stiff, but hey, I'm paying a little under $70 a night. No complaints. (And no bed bugs!!)
Complimentary breakfast, someone makes the waffles for you, you get milk, hot water, coffee, orange juice, sugar, honey, tea packets, and oatmeal packets.
Overall not bad of a stay. Between some of the cheaper hostel options around LA, I'd definitely consider coming back here again.
Front desk people are nice too.Helpful 15Thanks 0Love this 9Oh no 1 - Leon D.Portland, OR770292Sep 4, 2016
We came in knowing that this wasn't gonna be the Ritz. Even knowing that beforehand couldn't save this place from being awful.
First and foremost, the MANAGER that checked us in (Kip? Kit? Something with a K?) was a total dick. I get that there are probably a lot of junkies and weirdos staying here, but that doesn't really entitle you to talk down to a prepaid customer.
The bed: I feel like if I pull the sheets back, it's just gonna be a stack of cardboard underneath. I feel less rested after spending a full 9 hours on it than if I had just stayed up doing meth with everyone else on our floor.
Speaking of which, you can hear every door slam on this floor, the floor above, the floor below, in intricate detail. There must be a LOT of angry-ass junkies staying, because someone slams a door approximately every 11 seconds around here.
It's very telling that the one asshole who left this place a 4 star rating did so because he managed to squeeze 10 people into one of these crappy rooms. I feel like there's a lot of that going on here.
Overall, I can't recommend it, even knowing it was gonna be a fiasco. If you gotta stay for cheap downtown, do yourself a favor and stay at The Mayfair. Half as many crackheads at around the same price.Helpful 16Thanks 0Love this 55Oh no 1
