We stayed here for a wedding and it across from the Capitol Building. I was pleasantly surprised (and surprised that Springfield was pretty dead when we got to town around 3pm on Saturday!).

I was digging the decor and the 2 free drink tickets we got. The bartender was friendly and the locals made for some excellent people watching. There was also a bowling convention going on during this time;)

The bed was comfortable and I did not find a crack pipe in my room like Erica A.

Free breakfast!

If you are looking for a hotel with great customer service and amenities, the Clarion State House inn is NOT it.  The hotel uses some really interesting and deceptive marketing ploys to lure in new guests.  We were looking for a nice place to stay for a mini-summer vacation over the 4th of July weekend and came across the hotel's web site. We were attracted to all the exaggerated claims and outright gimmicks. For example, the State House Hotel claims to offer a Sweet Shoppe which is open 24 hours-with ice cream and candy's and treats.  The reality is the "Sweet Shoppe" is nothing more than a closet sized room, attached to the front desk. The hotel also has no room service for food. Basically, if you want to eat, you will have to walk quite a distance to town to find a meal. Please beware, the town rolls-up the streets at about 5pm.  Please do not be fooled by the pictures of elegant, charming rooms on the web site.  All of the rooms are decorated in unattractive, brown and orange, 70s furniture. We also found that the satelite TV did not work, and the internet connection was out of order.  Additionally, house cleaning gets around to cleaning rooms at their convience; which in our case was about 4:30 in the afternoon.  The one bright spot of the hotel is the breakfast buffet offered near the lobby.  If you like cold eggs, hard bacon, and frozen fruit, the hotel's micro-waved buffet is fine.  Finally, if you are planning on staying at this hotel, be prepared to walk a distance to get near downtown.  Take advantage of the hotel room's fridges, by bringing your own food.  There is virtually no grocery stores or convienent stores around, and if you are hungry-you're S.O.L.  Finally, my best advice is to avoid this hotel all together.  The hype does not match up to the reality.

OK, I'm not sure what the hell this hotel is doing in this town, but I'm glad it's there. It's one of the coolest places I've stayed at. Everything is done up mid-century modern style. Tre-chic.

I was so pleasantly surprised. I was expecting a very old and run down hotel and when I drove up it looked like an old office building, but when I walked into the lobby I was taken by the retro look they had. It was very chic and clean. The hotel staff was so pleasant and extremely helpful throughout our stay. Some of the perks u get is free parking, free complimentary breakfast that consist of bacon, eggs, french toast, cereal, yogurt, fresh fruit, waffles that you make on ur own, coffee and orange juice. Also u get one free complimentary cocktail or a glass of wine. The rooms are very clean and tidy I especially loved the down comforters and sheets...everything was was a crisp white! The washroom are nicely kept and extremely clean. The best part is you are perfectly located in front of the state Capitol and can start your tour either by walking or you can wait for the tour bus that stops right in front of the hotel for $3.00 a person all day!!
