Imagine a landscape erupting in green, with life spilling out of every yellow sprout and brown split in the earth. Imagine a swirl of colorful butterflies fluttering around you, while the sun sends down its most cordial rays, inviting you to become a part of this natural beauty that surrounds you.
Heaven?
No, just the State Botanical Garden. Located just about fifteen minutes away from the university, it is the prettiest, most natural getaway you'll find from the daily grind of life in the college town.

I really enjoyed the visit to this large botanical garden. There were many trails but found that some of them were not well marked. The flower garden, a new feature as of summer 2008, is not complete and completely in the blazing sun. It gets hot there!
The Visitor's center is rather small and the gift shop is cramped but that is moot compared to the sprawling and varied gardens. I'll be back again!

A perfect place for a long, riverside walk. It can be romantic if you are in the mood, though I've never gone on a date here. (Two friends did get engaged here, though!) I last went with my mom a few weeks ago, and even in late, cold fall there were some lovely sights.

The State Botanical Garden of Georgia is beautiful. I've really enjoyed all of my visits there and always look forward to going there. It is a perfect spot to take a date or just to go for a nice afternoon outing. If you like plants this is definitely the place to go while you are in Athens. It shows a different part of the city as opposed to the nightlife, bars, and the university campus which, don't get me wrong, are all fantastic as well. So if you've never been before and you live in Athens or are going through, take the time to tour the Garden. You won't be underwhelmed, I promise. It seems like I always see something new each time I go.
Great place to visit for a half day, to hike or walk, or even to hold your wedding.
Absolutely gorgeous! I took my parents here when they visited and they loved it. Unfortunately, we didn't get to stay as long as I'd wanted because my allergies got very upset due to all the wonderful flowering beauties.
