This is the starbucks below me and I have no complaints. If there's a line I'll just come back down later. I've gone there for a bite to eat and also to use my iphone or go online with free 2 hours they give you when you have a starbucks gift card.
I hope everybody knows that when you have a gift card and you register it online you get free wifi access for 2 hours. :) Yes ... If your really inclined you can probably string a bunch of cards together and get a full day access haha.
Anyway the staff is really nice too.
I consider it my home starbucks. I'm hoping that I can purchase starbucks using the new iphone starbucks app one day. And it will be waiting there for me when I get there. LOL.
With so many different coffee options in SOMA, I actually can't believe I frequent this Starbucks at all. As the old saying goes: 'Friends don't let friends buy coffee at Starbucks.' But I'm a sucker for their breakfast sandwiches, and at times, I'll break my usual snobby routine and drop the $4.30 needed for a cup o' Joe and a Gouda/bacon brekkie sando.
Depending on when you rip into this place, it can be crowded as hell. There are times when it's 20-deep, and other times when it's a quick in-and-out three minute jaunt. It's really a roll of the dice, though.
The people are really friendly, which keeps me coming back for more... but it's not all that spectacular considering the neighboring businesses vying for the same morning caffeine junkies hurrying to work in the immediate proximity.
"The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people with no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee. Short, tall, light, dark, caf, decaf, low-fat, non-fat, etc. So people who don't know what the hell they're doing or who on earth they are can, for only $2.95, get not just a cup of coffee but an absolutely defining sense of self: Tall. Decaf. Cappuccino."

"Tall decaf cappuccino"
I like this Bux despite thinking that I wouldn't upon first walking in!
It's right in the middle of everything - locals working in town, tourist speaking all sorts of languages then switching to English when they order and of course the usual downtown transient selling newspapers in the doorway!
Plenty of room to sit here & lots of power outlets for your computer. Service is fast and friendly for a Bux that is making drinks constantly all day.
I can only image on the weekends what this place is like... I rather not!
This is the kind of place that I like.
I get in, that lovely girl already knows what I am going to get and make it by the time I get to the cashier. The line goes fast. They are friendly and they understand the fact that I don't want whipped cream.
Quick cup before a playdate.
Despite the rain and gusts of wind, nothing was keeping me away from my intent for coffee prior to catching a playdate. That's right, a date to catch a play. I had been up way too early, suffered slight whiplash from the pillow fight from the night before, went to the gym, and now the exercise high began to bubble down. I could feel the lethargy set over me.
Oh, the horror.
This is a great little location sharing corner space with Chevy's with tables lining the floor to ceiling windows facing 3rd st. Moscone center, Yerba Buena, The W hotel and the MOMA are all within walking distance. I can't believe I've never stopped in before. I think I've done the mad rush with the rest of the denizens of downtown and failed to notice this one, slightly hidden behind panes of reflecting glass.
The establishment provided an awesome pane of unobstructed viewing to the bustling world outside. I ordered my usual extra hot Breve Latte (kept it confined to a grande size, playing nice) and we sat near the window facing 3rd st, watching the world roll by, dampened by the rain. Apparently I missed an umbrella get blown outwards, darn!
Good location, good service, and my latte hit the spot. An extra star for letting a customer bring in his adorable pooch and let the positivity wash all over us.
I've never received poor service here and I go almost daily M-F.
The line moves quickly, and that's a Key to Success at 7:55 in the morning and I've got 5 minutes to report for duty.
My only complaint--if anything--is with the door, which is always closed, but would allow all sorts of dust and garbage in if it were open all the time. Hardly a complaint, obviously.
Guy in front of me: "I'll have a triple Venti nonfat half-caff soy latte with 1 pump mocha, 1 pump caramel and 1 pump vanilla, low foam, non-fat whip, steamed milk at 185 degrees, 2 packets of Splenda (shaken, not stirred), 3 drops of half & half and an extra protective sleeve."
Girl in front of me: "I'll have a half-caf- triple Grande One and half pumps of vanilla, 2/3rds non-fat, 1/3rd whole, extra-hot, double cupped, dallop of extra velvety foam, lid on the side, latte."
Kid in front of me: "I'll have a triple Venti Colombia Nariño El Tambo coffee, nonfat java chip frappucino, 6 tablespoon chocolate syrup, 1 pump caramel syrup, 1 pump sugar free vanilla syrup and non-fat whip mixed, extra chocolate chips, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, chopped ice, and shaken please."
Me: "I'll have a SMALL COFFEE, thanks."
Overpriced.
The whipped cream leaves a reallllly weird plasticy feeling on the roof of your mouth.
If you're a semi attractive 20 something year old female who enjoys the attention of failed dot commers, new daddys freaked out about their mortality, or any other version of a good looking white man in a suit with a complex, AS WELL AS delicious espresso, you've come to the right place.
Play up college coed attire as needed.
High five for outlets near most seating.
High ten for feta mushroom sandwich. Holy mama.
Be sure to have it warmed.
Cheers!
Inline with my review for Chipotle, this is a joint I love to hate. But this particular location is endearing for many reasons - there's always at least two employees wearing something interesting, like colorful flower hair ornaments or just simply dressing as the opposite gender... there's always a line of dorky engineers attending a conference across the street at Moscone, and the manager is the sweetest of sweethearts who never forgets what you order, and she doesn't hold it against you if you spill all over yourself and the cream & sugar station - a splenda accident gone very very wrong.
The location is also great because of the outdoor art exhibit!
The London fog tea latte with soy (1 pump syrup) is delicious, if you order the Tall size. Do not get the grande size. When you get the grande size, it's the same amount of tea leaves, just diluted with more water so it takes like shit.
When you go to Starbucks you pretty much know what you're going to get. This Starbucks gets 5 stars for service. Even when I go in at 5:30am they are friendly and always remember what I drink.
See you guys tomorrow morning.
Oh Starbucks, how you've started slipping and begun hiring all the McDonald's rejects...
Me: Hi, I want an extra ice double tall vanilla latte. But give me one sec. because I want it made in a different order...
Starbucks Girl: You want it hot?
Me: No, it's iced. But I want it made in a different order than you usually do.
Starbucks Girl: OK, how do you want it?
Me: Syrup, then shots, then ice to top, then milk last.
Starbucks Girl: OK, so you want the ice first?
Me: No. Syrup, shots, ice, milk.
Starbucks Girl: Ohhhhh, OK.
(Starbucks Girl pumps syrup and then fills cup with ice.)
Me: No, no, no. I want syrup, then shots and THEN ice.
(Starbucks Girl looks confused and frightened.)
Me: Oh fuck it, just let me back there to make it, I'm an ex-partner anyway!
I love this Starbucks, all of the staff are great and I really should make more of an effort to know their names. Everyday I go in here I always feel very special. One person in particular, Leah, sees me walking through the door and begins to fill my order. In fact this amazing employee seems to do this same thing with most customers.
It gives me that warm and fuzzy feel of going into a mom and pop corner coffee shop. It's not very often you feel this way in a chain organization. I guess Starbucks is really about the employees first and then secondly the coffee. At least it is for me!
And let me tell you a few other things about Starbucks that I like:
Egg and Cheese Muffins for under $3. Great hangover cure!
Triple Espresso over Ice (fill the rest with milk from their milk station) $2 which is nearly 1/2 the cost of an iced latte.
Italian panini sandwich heated $5 and surprisingly yummy!
Starbucks can come through for you even if you are a hater! I am not one of them.
This Starbucks is slow. I come in in the morning and they don't have coffee brewed. Granted, I order decaf, but c'mon. Every time I come in here there is a long line that takes forever. They don't know what skim milk is. I really cannot believe this is a coffee place. Starbucks is supposed to be a fast place to get your coffee. Not so. Every Starbucks in SF is a joke but this one is the funniest of the jokes.
This is one of the friendlist Starbucks around. They ALWAYS get my drink right. They ALWAYS remember my name. They are super fast. They have a great little settee right in front of the window.
