Review from Sarah S.
Los Angeles, CA
I don't consider Starbucks to be yelp-worthy, but this particular location was so exceptional that I've chosen to share with y'all. It's located in the Crystal Cove Promenade and overlooks the ocean..well sort of. But, crisp ocean breeze, sunset, middling coffee, no crazy kids, and the richn'famous peeps...ahh..so nice. So when you want to sip coffee like a rock star, come here!
The only bad thing was that you get NO phone reception..or maybe it was just me. This will be my first and last Starbucks review. -
Review from Kaan O.
Newport Beach, CA
Driving around, need my fix. I think I know just the place, conveniently located on Pacific Coast Highway.
TASTE 4/5
It's the well-established, well-known Starbucks taste that you get from every drink. This place seems to nail it almost every single time. I haven't encountered any situation where I needed to change my drink due to it not tasting well. However, let's agree on one thing--it's a Starbucks, so it's not getting five points.
CLEANLINESS 3/5
The restrooms are squeaky clean, and the tables are also clean, however I can't say the same for the couches. It must be because of all the people who spend almost their entire day on it, and prevent the baristas from giving it a quick wipe. The outside sitting area is open to the public, and the upkeep is not done by Starbucks. The company that does it, however, does a great job.
SERVICE 4/5
This is one place where the line flows quickly, efficiently, and I receive my order almost immediately. Since I am usually just stopping for a quick drink to go, this matters a lot to me, and this place does that really well. Again, I do not know if this is solely due to them being a chain, but they're also very helpful with any concern or difficulty you might have. There were a couple instances where I was given the wrong drink, or some extra was forgotten, but they offered a replacement, and furnished me with a free drink card.
AMBIANCE 5/5
It's located in Crystal Cove Promenade, and from where you're sitting you can see the ocean. You can actually smell the ocean breeze too, depending on what time of day you go there. In the mornings there is this foggy air that creates a romantic, yet chilly feeling. Afternoons are great under the sun, and the evenings have this light breeze where you can enjoy under the trees covered with small LED lights. This place is definitely charming. What do they say? Location, location, location!
STAFF 3/5
I have encountered many different people over the years. Sometimes I feel like their turnover is almost a little higher for other coffee shops, but they all seem to "get it." The baristas here have been selected and trained well by corporate. The manager who I see sometimes is also very hands-on. It's a cheery bunch, and that adds to the place. One thing that caught my attention was there's no male barista. It is possible that I haven't seen the ones who work there, but I do visit quite often.
TOTAL 19/25
Ultimately, it's a Starbucks. What makes it special is its location. If you're driving by, or if you live close by, I would definitely recommend this place for its setting. -
Review from Stephanie W.
Brea, CA
In desperate need of coffee stat, this location was the closest to the Newport villas, so we came to grab a cut. It's pretty much the same as any other location really. They have free wifi, and they share tables with a pacific whey cafe. Employees are nice, and they're pretty quick with the drinks.
