The food is very good and the service is excellent.  Prices are very reasonable.

I prefer my Indian food to be spicier than what they served, so next time I go, I will ask them to make it "Indian spicy" instead of just "spicy."

The naan is amazing.

This was real good Indian food!!!

I went on a Sunday afternoon after church with friends and it was very busy.

Didn't see a menu, but I was wanting the buffet anyway.

Only reason I am giving this place 3 stars is because of the same issue Rod D. had. The food on the buffet was not hot. It was lukewarm if that. I called my roommate from college who is Indian and she informed me the food was supposed to be hot (and I am not talking about spicy hot).

I went through the buffet twice (which tells folks that really know me that I enjoy the taste of the food). The second time around there was less food because they were in the process of replenishing it.

The owner did come out to our table to answer a question. He was nice and personable. Indian music played throughout our stay. Good hole-in-the-wall place.

In addition to the items that Rod D suggested for them to invest in, I would suggest updated name cards for the food. It was very hard to read what each item on the buffet was. These simple fixes will make this place have a lot more stars!

I will never stop loving this place.  EVER.

Reasons why I love Star of India:

1) HOT PINK NAPKINS

2) Soooo many vegetarian options.  Currently I'm on a kofta kick.  Delish.  I also love Saag Paneer.  And curry vegetables.  Etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,.

3) Indian beer!  What better way to enjoy Indian cuisine!  I always get the BIG bottle.

4) Impeccable service.  You walk in and they immediately make you feel like you're the special, long-awaited guest.  Outside these walls, I am a low-life.  Then....at Star of India...VOILA!  I am Paris Hilton!  Oprah!  BEYONCE!!!!

5)Affordable!

I think that pretty much sums it up.  Star of India is the perfect restaurant.

I'm a glass half full type of guy.  I love my life and life in general, so I try to stay optimistic and say nice things when possible.

However, all of the supposedly "hot" food in the lunch buffet at Star of India was not even warm.  It was more like luke"cold."  I ate there at about 1 pm on a business day.

The food was cool and near the same quality as all of the other Indian places I've eaten, they just need to invest in some food warmers, candles, hot water under the dishes, heat lamps, etc.  I don't care if you put a microwave in the middle of the restaurant, just do something to warm the food up.

I've only done the lunch buffet, which is around $8.50 since my boyfriend and I had a bill a little over $19.00.

We came in and was seated right away. We did not get the mango lassi (which we had at other Indian places in Atlanta) so I'll get that next time we go.

I stuck with the vegetable dish, which was a lot compared to some other places I've been to buffet style. I had a spinach salad and a couple of vegetable dishes. They brought out the naan bread to the table, which was hot, fresh and delicious.

My boyfriend dug into the meat dish, with all kinds of meat from chicken, lamb, beef, and shrimp. He enjoyed it very much.

For dessert we had rice pudding (somewhat sweet but very tasty) and these dough balls in a sweet syrup sauce. My favorite thing besides naan bread.

The places is very quaint and my water was constantly refilled.

Star of India is a Little Rock mainstay, long the only Indian restaurant in the River City (until recently). Their lunch buffet is a great deal, especially if they offer the delicious mango pudding.

As far as the food goes, I'm most familiar with the vegetable dishes. Their chana masala, a North Indian classic, is as good as it gets (chickpeas with potatoes in a mild tomato sauce). Saag paneer, the creamed spinach with fresh cheese, is also utterly delicious, especially when you scoop it up with the naan. Of course, tandoori meats are very good as well (the prawns in particular).

But the deal is sealed by the owner, Samy, who will effusively greet you as if you were an old friend. "How are You?" he says, drawing out the "yoouuu" like an actor with a bad Southern accent. He will shake your hand, and even if you just moved to Little Rock from England, he might add, "It's been a long time." Recently he's been pushing the Indian beer, a huge bottle of crisp pilsner-like beer that he dramatically pours into a glass that can only be described as a goblet.
