6 reviews for Stanford's Restaurant & Bar
Been here twice after work, and like a decent happy hour joint, it served as a backdrop to hash out work-related rants: the class that made me want to quit my job, the student quote of the week (this week's was "Can presidents have sex?") the staff meeting from hell, etc.
Last time I went to Stanfords, they told me that they stuck my friends in the back because they had (gasp) brought kids. No kids at the bar, which is great for the people at the bar, where the happy hour is found. I considered being one of them... but alas, loyalty won out. We had a room almost to ourselves and a lovely server who went overboard to please the kids, even though she kept interrupting us and standing three inches from my ear when asking questions. It's hard though, to know when someone is in an actual conversation with young kids around. How many sentences were completed? Not enough for comprehension.
The food was better than mediocre, with great burgers, fries, salmon chowder, and cheese bread for the kids (which I stole). The atmosphere was more like... a place I'd go with my grandparents. Next time, I'll try the bar and see if the atmosphere is different. Also I'll go sans friends' kids at the end of the long week of other people's kids, and enjoy a happier hour.
I hung out in the Bar area and had the appetiser sampler as well as 2 Malibu and pineapple and found the staff quite friendly and food good.
In the sampler which was about $19 there was 3 sloppy Joe sliders which was good but I wished there had been 4 since I was sharing. The boneless Buffalo wings were sort of sour but OK. The spinach and artichoke dip was especially good with the grilled tortilla as well as the chips.
I think it would have been better for happy hour since I think it is a little pricey for the type of food you get.
Went here for the early happy hour (3pm - 6pm) with my mother. I got a cheese burger, and she got some sort of salad. We also got a portabella mushroom. It was grilled with some BBQ sauce on it. I ordered a long island ice tea, and she got a daquiri. Everything was very delicious and for the both of us it cost just over $20 with tip.
The service was standard as were the drinks.
This Stanfords hit the spot on a shopping day to the Promenade. We were starved, we needed a pre-shopping pop and some decent food. We were seated quick and left to peruse the 2 ft long menu, the kind where you have to move your head/shoulder/body to turn it over.
Broiled salmon with herby tartar sauce, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus. It was 5lbs of food, and it was good. Topped with my mango? mojito. This drink was more like a dessert as it was mostly syrup. What was good about this place is that it filled me up, tasted fine, and provided perfect chat surroundings.
All Stanfords seem to have tasty seafood, great portions, and a sweet happy hour. Kinda chainy, but in a reliable way. And sometimes you just need a reliable chain to make the meal on a lazy day a wee bit easier.
Stanford's has the distinction of being both a little spendy and kinda boring.
No surprises, either bad or good. The dishes and drinks are solid standards, the service is generally professional.
I guess you could say that Stanford's is your restaurant version of business casual.
They have a great happy hour!
However, if you are in the mood for an actual meal, then this may not be the place for you. In an attempt to be healthy, I ordered a chinese chicken salad, but was disappointed when the salad was a lot of lettuce (of the wilted kind), boiled chicken and way too much salad dressing. For $13, I would have been better off getting a substantial meal. The happy hour is a great deal, but for the meal portion of the restaurant, it is too over priced for what you get.
