Review from Jeff H.
I had a couple of hours to kill while getting ready to fly out on a vacation, so I stopped in here.
I self-seated at a high table near the bar and was instantly greeted by the bartender/waiter. He offered up a drinks and dinner menu, was cheerful and attentive, and came back several times to check my order. As I was busy using my phone to talk to everyone in the world, it took me a little while to decide on what to consume.
I ordered a beer and it came promptly, and was quite cold. I went with my inner kid and got the macaroni and cheese, since I just didn't feel like eating meat. It had bacon in it, but bacon cut up into little bits doesn't count as meat.
The food came quickly and was very hot. Quite good, too. My waiter came back several times to see if I wanted another beer (I did. It was Fat Tire) and never made me feel rushed or a bother.
The decor is designed to feel upscale, but obviously, any traveler going through the Portland airport will be made welcome, I'm sure.
It was a little spendy for what I got, as the portion size was somewhat small, but seriously...can you expect more at the airport for a sit-down, be-served restaurant? I don't think so.
I wouldn't mind killing more time here, if I had to. -
Review from Sherry S.
Anxiously headed to the airport on "holiday". We gave ourselves extra time and found ourselves with just that. Thought, might as well have a decent meal since we would not be arriving to our final destination till way past our bedtime.
The lights in the restaurant seemed to be dimmed down and it created a nice warm ambience feel to it. We also got a window seat. The waitress was almost dancing to the tables she was in such a great mood even though it was Christmas Eve. I was in a good mood too and ordered myself a chardonnay. They had some decent wine choices.
I ordered the shrimp dish with vegetables, kind of a fajita style. While we waited for our meal, the manager came over and handed us both 20.00 gift cards. That was pretty cool I thought, and happy holidays to you too!
Got my shrimp fajita dish and it was covered in shrimp, and they were of a good sized shrimp at that.
Yes it's not a "local" little restaurant, but still, the whole experience felt unhurried and the food was decent. We kicked back to get ourselves in to the spirit sipping on our drinks and enjoying our meal. -

Extremely overpriced food and drinks, but you're in the airport so I guess it comes with the territory. I'm a 2.5 drinks-before-flight kind of girl and this is a usual stop for me when leaving PDX. The staff is fun and aren't too shy with the wine. Give it a try if you have time to kill in the airport.

3 stars for a normal dinner, 4 stars for being at an airport. Really, best food waiting for a plane. Mac and cheese, Onion rings, and steak. Good service, very friendly.

MMMMMMMMmmmmmmmm. Steak.
Lightly charred on the outside. Juicy, pink, and near-perfect on the inside. Dinner accompanied with a pat of butter, asparagus spears, a gigantic onion ring and fries.
Expertly seasoned.
Delicious. -

I'm a fan!!! I'm in Portland for training, well a lot this year. A friend of mine told me that they had the best mac and cheese ever. Well, being a mac and cheese fan I had to try. Yes, it was 3 cheese yummyness!!
For an airport restaurant this is one of the best! I eat here when I fly in before I go to my hotel. Also if your a Portland airport employee they have a PDX menu. Great service, they keep my ice tea full without interupting the conversation. (always a plus) -

Gayle and I had just returned to PDX after an unsuccessful attempt to purchase a laptop at the Best Buy in the Cascade Station area. It's surprising sometimes what you'll do to avoid sales tax. We still had a couple hours before our Southwest flight returned us to Oakland, and sharing a couple drinks sounded really good on this unseasonably hot Portland day.
We first checked out the nearby "Tiki" bar, but left fairly quickly due to slow table service and an odd smell. We traveled onwards to Stanford's where we were promptly and cheerfully seated, ordered, and served. The Happy Hour prices for drinks and appetizers were very reasonable and we proceeded to settle down with a couple of beers and a chip and dip combination. We also had a seat by the window and not only enjoyed each others company, but had the chance to discuss what had transpired over the weekend concerning my son's social and school progress.
If an establishments delivers well on their business model, that usually merits 4 Yelp Stars. And so it was with Stanford's at PDX last Monday afternoon. -

It's a great ambiance, good prices for an airport. Come during happy hour only if you don't want to get ripped off.

Close to entrance to terminal a/b. It is on the outside of security.
In any traditional setting this would be a 3 star, but it is an airport and this is 4 star airport dinning.
Great service. Nice atmosphere and a terrific menu. Food is pretty good. I tried the salmon. Cooked just right and served fast and warm.
This is a great stop. Better than expected and worth your time.
No need to eat before you get to the airport, this is worth the effort and its really nice that it is outside security so you can eat with family, friends, colleagues that might not be traveling or not headed to the same terminal. My experience is that this is the best option in the airport and the surrounding area. -

Airport Stanford's, you never let me down. I really, really loathe 100% of your other locations, but somehow this location keeps it classy, PDX-style, whether you're getting on a plane or not. Drinks arrive super quickly, service is always really friendly (based on at least a dozen or more visits now), and it's totally comfy for those times your flight gets delayed and you end up killing time with a drink or nine, watching the boob tube in the bar.
They make a fine Bloody Mary at Stanford's, but be forewarned that it comes with pepperoni, so if you prefer your beverages sans flesh, order without.
Big menu, something for everyone, with good deals during HH. It's not the finest food in the world, but compared to the horrible airport food I've endured in just about every other city I've been to, it's pretty darn decent. I've had great soups, salads, sandwiches there, plus HH snacks, and people seem to go nutso over their burgers and fish dishes. Prices are the same as the other Stanford's. Thank you, Portland Airport, for keepin' it real like that.
Plus, they turned the Rose City bar into some kind of surf shack-themed place, so if you'd prefer a bar a tad less silly before going through security, this is your best bet.Listed in: Bloody Mary Roundup

I have been a fan of Stanford's for a long time and was happy to discover when going on a eight hour flight out of Portland that they had this location. I did not feel like trying to figure out where to get dinner at but was leaving right after work on a Friday night. My thought was that a lot of restaurants in town would be crowded with the happy hour crew which might complicate my schedule.
I got the same excellent level of service I get consistently at the other locations and the waiter made sure to ask when my flight was leaving so that he would not delay me. It is wonderful when they do that. My food was excellent and I ate a super heavy meal with a glass of wine ensuring I would pass out most of my evening flight. -

My husband wasn't excited about going to an airport for dinner, but I love airports so I really didn't care. Plus, we tried to go to the exalted Observatory, but they turned us away because we had a baby at 9:45 pm. There was a baby younger than ours seated at one of the tables. Is this or is this not discrimination? Anyway, this is about Stanford's so I digress, but that REALLY pissed me off.
Needless to say, I was in a bad, asstastic mood when we walked into Stanford's. Fortunately for me, it didn't last.
Stanford's is a comfortable restaurant right by airport gates before you go through security. It's great to sit and watch people coming and going, especially when you're not one of them. It was very weird for my husband, I think, to be at the airport and not have to be on a plane :)
The food was actually great even at 11:15pm, when we arrived, tired and hungry from the long drive. You can tell that the food is not pre-made because it takes forever and it tastes very fresh. I imagine that they make well above average drinks.
Do not come here if you are in a hurry or have to catch a plane in less than an hour. The food is slow. To me, this is a good thing, but for a rushed traveler, it is not.
Service was above average. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the pork chop, we both agreed that everything was delicious. Their cobb salad was also excellent (my husband ordered that too.) You can tell a lot about a place by its cobb salad. The avocado was fresh, with non-iceberg lettuces and freshly made bacon and dressing. Not to mention, they cooked the steak on the cobb to order.
We wouldn't hesitate to come back. -
Review from Joshua M.
I asked for a glass of water and a Coke. Server brings out a glass of ice and a Coke. I hadn't really noticed that the glass was just ice at first, so when I did he had already taken off. A manager was rounding the corner at one point and asked if we needed anything. I said, yeah, water to go with my ice. So he comes back with a water pitcher and another glass of ice. Since my wife hadn't said she wanted water I assumed he was just going to fill both glasses so we could both have water. He fills one and leaves. So weird.
Anyhow, other than that, the food was decent, and service water aside was pretty good. -
Review from Zuzana K.
I used to avoid Stanford because I found the food unimaginative and predictable. However, I went there yesterday for lunch and I was nicely surprised. We had lentil soup, chicken quesadilla and macaroni and cheese. The food was not boring, it had an edge, it had personality... The presentation had the right balance - it was not trying too hard and was trendy enough.
I will not avoid Stanfords anymore when I go to the airport. -

By way of airport food, this place reigns over all. We came here on a recommendation from one of our clients and the place was perfect for what we needed to do: comfortably kill a few hours before our flight. When we were seated, the golden words came out of our waitress' mouth... "All bottles of wine are half off tonight!"
Yeah, we lucked out... but still, a place with a half-price bottle night is a winner in my book! The food was super tasty, service was friendly and prompt, environment was spacious and laid out so you didn't feel like you had to beat people with your baggage as you navigate through the restaurant, and the chairs were super comfy. (important when sitting is happening for hours on end). -

What to do when you're at PDX for five hours??? Stanford's is the answer. I love this place, great place to go relax and unwind from all of the airport headaches. The atmosphere is dark and cozy; perfect for a nice glass of Cabernet and a cigar (but you can't smoke there, just a thought...)
My hubby and I (and baby) stopped in for lunch to kill some time. We started off with the Dungeness Crab Cake Appetizer which was very good. For lunch I had the Mesquite Chicken Sandwich and my hubby had the Thai Chicken Linguine which was very good with a nice kick!
Although I did bring my baby to the restaurant (which he slept through the entire time...whew!) I don't really recommend this place for kids.
Almost forgot...VERY IMPORTANT! You must and I mean MUST have the Pecan Pie, it is to die for! It is served warm with vanilla ice cream.
Very very tasty! -

Very nice. My boyfriend's flight was delayed a bit so we decided to get a bite to eat.
I have been in many of the Stanford's and this one definitely meets and exceeds them. Nice atmosphere and a relaxing environment in the airport.
The prices are about the same as all the other locations which is nice.
I would dine there again. -

This is one of the nicest restaurants in an airport. It makes me believe that they built the airport around it. We only ate here because United gave us $45 for dinner and we were stuck in Portland for the next 24 hours...thanks United!
Great menu with a lot of choices: salads, soups, steak, fish and burgers. Great kids menu too.
I recommend the onion rings app...they were the biggest ones I have ever seen and were really tasty. The dipping sauce was interesting...blue cheese mixed with BBQ sauce. The burger was incredible and they cooked it medium rare for me. Many airport restaurants won't under cook meat. I guess they dont want anyone getting sick at 35,000 feet!
If you need to eat at the airport, then I recommend you stop here for a nice dinner...before going through security! -

Usually airport restaurants are terrible - Stanford's is awesome.
The place looked pretty inviting, and I had over an hour to kill before my flight. I glanced over the menu at the door, and decided to go with it.
Ordered the Sirloin Steak with Blue Cheese ($24) and it was to die for. The steak cut like butter, and the blue cheese was the crumbly/ crusty kind. A side order of vegetables and mash potatoes to compliment.
Also got a Guinness ($6) - no price gouging here, walked out a lot happier as I didn't have to sit in the lounge with screaming kids and retards on their phones. -

On our way from OAK to MCO for our week at WDW we had a 4 hour layover at PDX. It was a Saturday after 5, so our Alaska Airline Boardroom was closed!!! We wanted to have a nice dinner, so we asked a customer service agent. She recommended either Stanford's or the Rose City. We looked at both menus and both restaurants and decided on Stanford's. What a great pick.
We had the nicest waitress, Bobbi. I got the deviled eggs to start and the Margherita pizza as my main course. I had then add a little red sauce. Both dishes were very good. The food was not only good for airport food, but can stand on its own. -

Portland, OR
Excellent service! The waiter saw our flight number and kept us updated on its boarding status. There had been a mix up in the kitchen and I think he was worried that we wouldn't get our food in time. However this that kind of service certainly goes above and beyond my expectations. One of the coolest things about this place is that the booths have coat racks attached to them. That quite convenient, especially if the weather is rotten and your jacket is wet. The food is somewhat spendy but this is likely because Standfords is a sit down restaurant inside an airport. I didn't expect it to be any other way. Still, the portion sizes alone were worth the money and the quality was great by normal restaurant standards.

Where do you eat something at the Portland Airport - inside of or outside of the security gates? I was wondering this very thing and decided to ask those handy dandy TSA guys hanging out in front of the security lines. One guy recommended a deli place inside the gates. But then, the other guy said I could get a great happy hour deal at Stanford's! Winner!
They have a nice list of food items at nice prices for HH, which runs from 3-6 pm. Prices range from $2-4 bucks! I got a corn, potato, cheddar pancake ($2, greasy but good) and a spinach and artichoke dip ($2, enough for 2-4 people and decent). The foods aren't healthy, although they do have a southwest chicken salad which looks ok, but all the portions are pretty darn decent. Because the food is so cheap, no HH prices for the beer. Oh yeah, did I mention that there is a $2.50 minimum of beverage purchase for the HH food pricing? Seems fair.
Service was good. Comfy bar chairs. -

Stanford's Restaurant & Bar is an alluring place to stop in if you're flight has been delayed or have some time to kill before and after an airplane trip.
Service: 5/5 stars
They're fully staffed and equipped with a full bar. The waiters didn't mess up my order so I'm pretty satisfied
Food: 3/5 stars
The deviled eggs benedict's are a good choice for appetizers. But the menu needed some more kick. They're not notorious for steaks but I think I should have ordered a steak rather than any pasta.
Apprearance: 5/5 stars
Seating is not cramped, and the interior design must have cost at least 500k-1m.

On a flight back to SF from an enjoyable weekend in Portland, I stopped off here for lunch before going through security. Ah, the fun security gauntlet, hosted by our ever-jovial and eternally capable friends, the TSA (insert appropriate level of sarcasm in that sentence the location of your choice).
Thank goodness for Stanford's! A nicely decorated place, conveniently located before entering the gates, and great food to boot! The salmon was nicely tender and flavorful, as was the dinner that my SO had - all the flavors went together nicely, the presentation was good, and the prices were just right for the quality and quantity of what you get. Seating was quick and simple, right next to a great view of the tarmac and planes going to and fro.
I wasn't disappointed, and would happily return. -

As other reviewers, I was surprised to see such a place in an airport - and I'm glad I found it.
First, this is not quick meal before a flight - a long layover/delay would be necessary to enjoy it, as this is a full service restaurant that happens to be in airport (they have a happy hour that features half-priced "small dish" appetizers from 3-6pm).
The dark, classy atmosphere feels like one of those power steakhouses - you can imagine Portland's power brokers eating here (that is, if they wanted to pay airport parking prices).
I ordered the intriguing pesto-crusted halibut sandwich and you could really taste the pesto crust even through the heavy aioli dressing (order it on the side and add as much you like). The tomato basil soup was average, but paired well with the sandwich.
The beers on draft were too limited for such a place though, especially considering how beer crazy Portland seems to be (even places in the food court have beers on tap!). But, I chose a local Hefeweizen that really hit the spot, even though it was murkier than most Hefeweizens I have had.
The service was fast and friendly and the view overlooking the runway was beautiful; if you should ever find yourself even near the airport, give Stanford's a try. -
Review from Leeora B.

As other reviewers note, the atmosphere here unexpected and really gets you away from the din of the airport. It's quiet, the music is low and you can hear yourself think.
The food leaves a LOT to be desired. I ordered "Beer-battered" fish and chips. Instead of a beer batter, the fish wasn't even battered, but coated in breadcrumbs and fried to a crisp. I was disappointed. The chips were oversalted and substandard.
They have some interesting cocktails that are reasonably priced for an airport. Well, reasonable compared to LAX or SFO. I have a hard time getting good food at PDX, but I might come back here just because it's quiet, dark and chill. Free WIFI and a full bar.. maybe wait till your destination for food or set your expectations low. Staff are sweet and proficient. -

Everything was quite good. The Parmesan crusted sole was extremely well prepared. My wife had the sirloin tips and garlic mashed potatoes. The beef was mediocre but the sauce was well executed. We will be going back.

If you are in anything like a hurry pass on this place. The wait for your food was a disaster and they weren't heaving. Our server was actually very pleasant so I guess she realized her kitchen was either understaffed or just slow.
The saving grace was that my appetizer of Boneless Buffalo Wings and fries was an absolute sensation.
My better half had Fish n Chips which was just meh but man those Wings were good!
Would have been a four star if the wait hadn't been so long. -

This is the location at PDX airport. I love to stop here. I always order the Southwest Chicken Salad but all their salads are pretty good. Fine chopped.
The Portobello Mushrooms for an appetizer is excellent!
The staff is very friendly and the service is speedy. -

Typical classy Stanfords atmosphere but the service was a bit shaky. It was a very quiet time of day and the staff seemed to be busy dealing with cleanup and organization stuff. It took quite a while to get a fairly basic lunch with my parents but the food was excellent and the menu is fantastic. Great place to enjoy an upscale meal while you're passing through the airport.

I was amazed to find such a nice restaurant in an airport. My family had lunch here on 29 Dec 2009 just before boarding a flight home. Since there are already several other reviews for this restaurant, I'll just add onto the pile another data point:
Food: To die for. Exquisite. So many fantastic things to choose from. I had the pesto-crusted halibut sandwich and the turkey curry soup, and both were AWESOME. That really started my long day of travel off on the right foot have such a good meal before getting on the plane.
Service: Top notch. Professional, courteous, attentive and friendly.
Price: Very reasonable considering the portions. At the same time, not so much food that you'll be carrying a doggy bag with you on the plane.
Atmosphere: This was the one area I wasn't 100% satisfied. The house lights are very low and the furniture and walls are very dark. Meanwhile, the light from the windows looking out on the airport tarmac was nearly blinding to me even on a very overcast day. My eyes struggled to see things in the contrast between the dark restaurant with the blinding light from outside.
Even so, the food and service were so spectacular, I'd actually make an excuse to go to the airport just so I could go eat here. (Maybe after sunset next time). -

Seriously good food at... an airport? Yes, this airport restaurant serves up some tasty fare. I had lunch here, and gave the soup and half a sandwich deal a go. The black bean soup was well spiced, and cooked just right (beans were just soft enough, but not mushy). The BLT accompanied my soup and was very good. Not too much mayo, fresh veggies, and the bacon was very thick, and cooked just right. A tasty treat at PDX.

Maybe a step above your standard airport restaurant. The burger was okay. The fries sucked. But, I tried another Oregonian beer that I loved and recommend -- Sessions Lager.

Holy crap, this was some of the best airport food I've ever had. I had the Blue Cheese Burger and it was delicious. It was cooked perfectly, very juicy and had the perfect amount of blue cheese on it. Everyone else I was with enjoyed their food as well. However, I do think my boyfriend wished that he had ordered something other than the very rich deviled eggs appetizer as a meal.

We were actually staying at Hyatt Place down the road and just couldn't find anywhere open for dinner on the fourth of July, so we went here. I had the Grilled Chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. It was strange, the green beans and mushrooms had no taste at all, but the chicken and mashed potatoes were exquisite. The place was literally empty of other people, though it was kind of late. We could see fireworks in the distance, which was kind of neat. Overall, decent place.

Ok, I travel frequently and this is the first review I have ever done for an airport restaurant. The airport itself is great and the food here is amazing! Halibut fish tacos were good enough that I skipped a second beer to finish them.
