Alright I used to volunteer here so I'm partial but seriously this place is a true gem in the sometimes humdrum Akron, OH. Each season has something cool. Spring, the tulips are gorgeous, summer the whole estate is blooming, fall the leaves are gorgeous and this is my favorite time to d the inside tour as the summer tours are a bit hot (no ac) Christmas time is a special time but everyone gos during this festival so the experience, while good is not my favorite, plus you only get to see a small part of the house due to the crowds!

GO! See! Learn!

We visited almost six years ago and I highly recommend it .  Stan Hywet Hall is the former home of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company's founder and it's one of the finest examples of Tudor Revival architecture in the U.S., with 65 rooms & 70 acres of gardens.  We took a guided tour of the home, which lasted for 1 1/2 hours; it was fascinating and the house was really beautiful, with many wonderful & clever details.

I live very close to here and absolutely love it!  The home is beautiful and features all original furniture and they even left some clothes in the closet so you get a real feel for what it was like to live here.  There are even home videos playing by the pool.  A true gem!  They have great events for members including an Easter Egg hunt, Stroller Club, Kinder Garden, Holiday parties to name a few.  The Ohio Mart is a great fall activity!  A great place to spend a Saturday!

I just visited Stan Hywet for the second time today. There were over four weddings going on and we could hardly tell. The grounds are spectacular in spring with all the blossoms and in summer luscious and green. It was a bit humid today but thank goodness for the Japanese Gardens and Pleasant Drive walk that provided shade as we toured the grounds. The house itself is spectacular - modeled after an English country estate the surrounding gardens are worth a tour as in the interior. No expense was spared on the home built in 1914 as the Sieberlings enjoyed an indoor pool, bowling alley, phone system, and electricity. This is a must-see if you're anywhere near Canton, Akron or Cleveland.

On a recent trip to Cleveland, our plans were changed and we spent a Saturday in Akron.  I had seen the A&E America's Castles on this estate and had always wanted to tour.  It was a really great experience!  We arrived when the gardens opened Saturday morning - several volunteers welcomed us at different locations in the parking lot and entrance and were eager to share information on the site (excellent guest services overall!!).  We walked the gardens, which were peaking with spring flowers - georgeous irises, peonies, and more - for an hour before the house opened and took the "on your own" tour.  The house is amazingly crafted and even without a guided tour there were plenty of volunteers throughout the building who provided additional information on rooms and the family.  At the end of the tour we visited the conservatory which had a butterfly display that was fantastic.  I'd love to return at various times to view the landscaping and gardens.  Also, friends mentioned that they sometimes play old school baseball games on the lawn.

Stan Hywet is a really cool estate located in beautiful West Akron. The house was built and owned by FA Seiberling and is now a museum. I've been there twice, but both times I was there for their annual Christmas lights display. Since these take place at night and the estate looks different than usual because of the decorations, I can't tell you about it during the rest of the year. I can tell you, however, that the "Deck the Halls" tradition is something you should go to every year. This year the theme was Babes in Toyland, which could've been better, but it was still cool. Even better was the Nutcracker theme they had last year, which was great. In addition to the inside of the house being decorated with the theme in mind, the gardens are all lit up and open for walking through. The lighting displays are great outside and definantly worth the walk. The Corbin Conservatory, which is an on site greenhouse, is also decked out. There are great Christmas plant displays and a model train sponsored by Goodyear winds around part of the building. Overall, between April and December, if you're looking for something of historical value to do, head to Stan Hywet.
