If I ever need plumbing service again, I will definitely be calling Joe at Stallion.
My water heater completely blew out - flooding my utility room. Not only did Joe come up and replace the water heater, but he repaired the shoddy instillation job from the previous water heater, so in the case of another blow out, I won't have to worry about flooding.
Joe was great about explaining all of my options, and showing me what he was doing and why he was doing it. I'm super happy with the work they did -

About six moths ago we used Stallion to install a water heater. They were more expensive than Sears, and the water heater pilot late has gone out continuously for the last two months. Despite their promise of a two year warranty, they have been unwilling and unable to fix this, suggesting half measures and trying to shirk the responsibility on the manufacturer.
Joe is great for small jobs around the house, but please be careful using them for anything more ambitious.1 Previous Review: Show all »

After I had a pretty bad experience with Stallion Rooter & Plumbing this summer, I wanted to check my fellow yelper's opinion on the company... I was very surprised to see great reviews here...
My experience with them was exactly the same as "Ken V."'s story - very frustrated and super disappointed. They were sent out by my home insurance company, AHS (American Home Shield) for warranty insurance job. A plumber, Joe, came to fix the leaky shut off valve underneath of kitchen sink for four times (three times just Joe, and once with Joe and Tony the owner of the company) for over about two months. The problem was never fixed completely. After all of those visits, they said they can't fix the problem with the insurance coverage and proper fix will cost $600 to 700. They ended up just caulking the leaky area that still leaks.
They were also pretty bad with keeping the scheduled times. They rescheduled the appointment several times AFTER the appointment time. And were ALWAYS four to eight (!) hours late, without letting me know. One night, Joe showed up five hours late from the appointment time around 8 PM, in a really bad mood, not saying a word (not even "I'm sorry that I'm late."), cursing at the tight-shut screws and yelling at his assistant. It made me feel so uncomfortable and rather scared.
Maybe they do a good job if you are a regular paying customer but if you are getting them through AHS, be aware! They might not care about your case at all. They don't get paid well through AHS? Is that the case, Tony? Tony is a nice business man/plumber who knows what he's doing. I wish it was him, taking the whole job from the beginning to the end. Unfortunately, it seems like they put AHS customers at the end of their priority list based on bunch of other yelper's experience. Too bad they are that way. They could be on our next big remodeling project if they were good. -

We needed to get our W/D hook up installed so we could finally get our W/D in our unit! We called several places and they all gave us higher quotes than Stallion. Stallion gave us a very reasonable quote and they were able to send someone to our loft the same weekend. Tony is super nice and friendly, he's also on time. He also was able to finish the job within said estimated hours.
I highly recommend Stallion to all of my friends who need rooter and plumbing services. I can't wait to get our gas line done by Stallion soon! -
Review from Diane B.
These guys were responsive, quick (pretty key for my usual plumbing needs...) and totally value-added. I called 3 plumbers for the lovely job of snaking and Vacho was first to arrive. He not only did the needed job, but inspected my other main lines to ensure it wasn't a larger issue (although I knew it wasn't, I always defer my layperson's opinion when it comes to plumbing and electrical issues).
Not only did Vacho do the job, but he educated me on the merits of getting an eco-friendly toilet for future effectiveness and cost-savings. He also scored me my $20 Yelp discount and mentioned I get 5% off the next job (the eco one? Why does that "airplane sucking" flush sound so appealing?) if I do a Yelp review.
But I would have anyway. These guys are Stallions! -

In their favor, the chaps from Stallion arrived when planned and seemed knowledgeable when discussing my plumbing issues. However, their diagnosis was that I required a big fix to my drainage system and that they would not recommend doing a temporary solution in the meantime leaving me without the ability to do laundry until I committed to the big fix. Their quote for the big fix was almost $10k.
I then called Atlas Plumbing, who were equally prompt and knowledgeable. They recommended the same big fix but were able to provide a temporary solution in the meantime (the one that Stallion said they would not do) allowing me to wash clothes. Atlas's quote for the big fix was only half of what Stallion proposed. So, I went with Atlas and ditched Stallion. -

Called these guys for an emergency - kitchen drain was clogged and we needed it fixed asap. I called and spoke to Tony - explained the situation. A tech was here within 45 minutes. The guy was professional and fast - 30 minutes later everything was fixed and back together.
Very reasonably priced, professional, good work. Will definitely use them again! -

My experience was good.
Quick, professional, knowledgeable and clean, all I can ask from a service call.
My call was not major, just a faucet replacement, but Tony did a good job and answered some other plumbing questions too.
I did get some other phone estimates prior and his cost was average to high.
Yes I will use him again. Nice guy. -

I must say, the service at Stallion is excellent. We had some shoddy work from a previous plumber, and Stallion quickly came and gave their estimate. Even though we didn't scheudle the actual repair till 6 months later, Chris remembered it all!
When he showed up for service, he was prompt and well prepared. Always professional and friendly, he completed the fix on the shower valve in almost no time! He was great and even snaked our nasty drains quickly. I would definitely recommend Stallion & Chris' services again. -

Last August, I leased my home in West Portal and decided to have a broken Kohler Jacuzzi faucet fixed when my tenants moved in. Stallion seemed like the perfect neighborhood plumbing company when I found it. The staff was cordial, the servicemen showed up on time, the rate seemed reasonable, etc.
Unfortunately, working with them quickly became a nightmare.
In late August, I had a plumber come in for an estimate. He did not charge and recommended the parts I needed to order through Kohler under my warranty. He came back a few days later to reassemble the facet with the existing parts so it would at least be functional in the meantime, and charged $65 for that visit.
About a month later the trouble started. The parts arrived and I called to have the plumber come back out to finish the job. It took a couple weeks to schedule this visit, which seemed odd, and I was told that the plumber who had previously helped me was no longer with the company. I didn't think much of that at the time, and scheduled another estimate with a new plumber.
Later that day I got a call from the office saying that the parts the first plumber had instructed me to order were wrong. The faucet could not be fixed, and I was given another list of items to order from Kohler.
At this point, I was a little frustrated. My tenants had been living without a functional faucet for almost two months. I ordered the parts and waited.
Another month passed. When the parts finally arrived, I scheduled another appointment. I also spoke with the office and mentioned ever-so-gently that this was taking a very long time, and that I hoped they would take into consideration that the first plumber told me to order the wrong parts when billing me for the next round. They were very nice about this and apologized for the inconvenience profusely. They also reassured me that this next visit would be another estimate to ensure that the parts were correct and determine the scope of the project, so I would not be billed at all for the visit.
Later that week, the office called to inform me that the job was much larger in scale than originally anticipated and they could not fix the faucet without securing payment in the amount of $515 first. $515 to fix a faucet!! Unfortunately, I was out of the country by then and my assistant was told the job would involve multiple people, hours of work, etc. She authorized payment and the faucet was fixed. When she requested an itemized breakdown of costs, however, the office failed to provide any written statement of where the charges had come from. When she called again a few days later, she was told that the $515 covered "labor only". With an hourly rate of $65, they would have had to have worked almost 9 hours to justify the charge. My tenant assured me the work took a total of 45 minutes.
Upon my return, I immediately contacted the owner to request reimbursement for unjustified charges and providing false information. I was then told that the office assistant we had been working with for months was no longer with the company.
To make a long story short, it took another several weeks to secure a reimbursement. In the end, I still paid a lot to have the faucet fixed, but it was an amount I could live with.
The company is apparently crumbling. I feel badly for the owner, but don't want to see anyone end up in the kind of situation I was in. If you are in need of a plumber, call someone - anyone - else! -

Double noms for Stallion. Vacho talked me into a new eco toilet, installed it the same afternoon, and showed me how to apply for a "Toilet Rebate" from the city. Now I love flushing my new toilet, particularly after I've provided a particular big load for it to deal with!

I called Stallion after reviewing the glowing reviews on Yelp. Maybe all of these laudatory reports have caused some growing pains but my encounter with Stallion fell short of the mark indicated by other reviewers. I had a known sewer blockage that had already been temporarily fixed by another plumber and had called Stallion to get a bid on the repair and to be sure that no blockage was present in an upstream segment of drain pipe that had not been checked by the earlier plumber.
The two guys who came to do the upstream videocamera inspection and to provide the bid on the known sewer pipe blockage arrived late "due to co-worker illness" but at least Stallion's receptionist called to let me know that they were running late. The technicians were paged by a "Chris" every few minutes who seemed to be harassing them to find out what they were doing despite being informed that they were "with a customer". They were unable to pass the scope beyond a Y-junction they encountered in the pipe, just a few feet below the toilet. And I never received a same-day bid as promised for the outside sewer work. Stallion charged me $100 for the unsuccessful videocam attempt and $200 for "resetting the toilet" where the video camera had been placed.
5/3/2010-I have modified my rating of Stallion from 2 stars to 3 stars. After this review was written, Tony, the owner of Stallion Plumbing contacted me. I was impressed by Tony's personal attention to his business. He offered to take on my sewer repair as his own project or to provide a second opinion if I decided to go with another plumber and had any questions. I had to decline his kind offer to take on my job since I had already accepted one of the other bids. However, Tony's generous gesture to me means that I would consider taking another look at Stallion Plumbing for a future plumbing project. -

Joe just left my house after an extremely efficient and effective 45 minutes. Super fast response time (same day) to arrange a visit. Diagnosed the problem and was well underway fixing a majorly clogged kitchen sink. Plus helped to fix a leaky toilet in another room (multi-tasked). Positive experience on every level and I've now found my permanent "go to" plumber for future needs here at my house in SF.

Incredible work. I was referred to Stallion Plumbing by my home warranty, so I was naturally leery, since the home warranty usually points me to low-quality vendors. Not this time! They not only fixed all my plumbing issues, but were incredibly courteous about scheduling and were incredibly punctual. I have a funky sink and the repairman was hesitant to repair it without learning more about the specific setup, so he offered to come back once he learned more about it. I was so grateful that he did that, because he ended up solving the problems perfectly. Oh - even when walking into my place, he offered to take his shoes off before entering. I thought that was incredibly thoughtful.
Incredibly honest, top-notch service. I highly recommend them. -

Joe from Stallion came fast and early. It's great that they're open late and a real person takes the call. Joe was honest with his estimate, explained what was wrong with our water heater and why it needed to be replaced. And, he left the place clean after all the work was done. Thanks!

Friendly guy, Tony. Contracted with AHS home warrantee service. Came the first day, inspected plumbing leak, recommended replacement of line. scheduled next day service to replace. 1 hr late to appointment, was getting pipes. completed repair in 2 hours... Charges by the job, not by the hour. Seemed like a good guy...

Unbelievably crooked company, sent out by an equally shady home warranty co., American Home Shield. We had a big sewer line leak under our house. Without even doing any diagnostics, the Stallion plumber said it wasn't covered by AHS because it must be in the lateral line outside of the house. We had previously had the city check our lateral line, and it was clear. We then had to spend over $4000 of our own money to hire our own restoration company to remove the sewage from under the house so that the source of the problem could be identified, then we had to pay our own plumber to fix the problem. Meanwhile, Stallion wanted to charge us $5000 to repair the lateral sewer line, which 2 independent specialists said was fine, and had we gone with Stallion's recommendation, there would still be raw sewage piling up under the house! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!!

This company was most unprofessional. My plumbing needs were minor, but still needed fixing. This was an AHS warranty job. I believe since it was not a big money maker job is why they had a hard time making an appointment to do the work. More important stuff came up for them. They totalled 3 cancelled appointments. At the third appointment, I had a paid contractor on site, staying late to meet the plumbers, who called to cancel at 5:55 pm, 5 minutes before the 4pm to 6pm -2 hour time frame we were expected to wait. I was disappointed to be put at the end of the line for two weeks. There are plenty of great plumbers out there. I would not recommend doing business with this company.

American Shield send these people to help me with a leaking garbage disposal. They told me I would need an electrician because the plug was not the right one and needed to be up to code. I called an electrician and they couldn't find anything wrong with the outlet. It turns out that Stallion only has garbage disposals with 3 prong plugs and mine is a twist and lock outlet. What a waste.

Short story:
At least in our experience, it appears that Stallion can not do more that what you can do yourself following the simple procedures available in youtube. They are good in finding an excuse to not finish the job and they are not open to correct their mistakes. So if you do not have time to do it yourself and you need a simple job, they might be good. Otherwise, find help somewhere else.
Details:
In our new house, we have an old garbage disposal (made around 1990) that did not work. Our home warranty company asked Stallion to take a look. they sent a young serviceman that did not know our garbage disposal and even could not open it. He eventually said that disposal is jammed due to foreign object so it not covered under our home warranty and left without doing any job and asked 60$ for service. To be fair, I decided to take a look at it myself. It appears that garbage disposal is so rusted that its blade did not work. The "foreign object" was actually rusted metal of garbage disposal.
I contacted Stallion through email and phone. I offered to bring dis-functional garbage disposal to their shop to take a second look. The owner refused and insisted that the problem is due to "foreign object".
Finally, we gave up and asked second opinion from a different company. Surely, they came and install new garbage disposal for us under our warranty. Asking for 60$ service fee, we did not pay any dime. -
