Without a doubt the best moving company in Boston and a bunch of kind human beings. They are courteous, friendly, professional, and go above and beyond the call of duty!

One of my co-workers had to move quickly after a messy break up. She found an apartment in Charlestown and with such short notice struggled to find friends to help her move.  Being the community-minded fellow I am I offered to help (Truth: Because she'd forgive me for stealing a regular supply of chocolate-covered espresso beans from her desk).

Moving day was last friday and everything went wrong that could go wrong. It was raining, there was no parking, and worse her expensive and massive armoire that she loved didn't fit up the stairs. The movers finagled and finagled with no luck. They tried taking some of it apart. Still no luck.

It became clear that it wasn't going to fit up the stairs and my coworker was devastated (with dignity). Domingo, the guy in charge of the moving crew, told her that just wasn't going to fit and they would be wasting her money to continue trying. He offered to come back with some of his friends later in the day. So she wrote them a check for their hours and they went off.

A few hours later he returned with a bunch of his buddies and engineered a system to literally pull the enormous armoire through the second floor window. Sure enough the operation was a success. My co-worker tried to offer him money for his services but he refused, letting the good deed speak for itself.

The movers are extremely nice and they do work quickly. It was a crazy hot day and yet they didn't waste time. There were a few minor damages to a few of our things, but with the amount of stuff we moved, it really wasn't anything major.

The price seemed fair, and considering they were available on short notice, unlike many of the other moving companies, we were quite satisfied.

We used Stairhopper Movers last month when we moved from a first floor in Somerville to a second floor in Medford.  I received quotes from three other places, but Stairhopper had the best rates and the most reasonable time estimate.

The team of three arrived a few minutes early and got to work immediately.  They had everything from our old place loaded in no time!  Unloading at the new place took a little longer, but I blame that on narrow doorways and winding staircases.  They were careful with all of our furniture and didn't complain about moving our ridiculously heavy elliptical machine (which other movers have whined about).

When we arrived at the new place, we discovered that our new landlord hadn't moved his washer out of the kitchen (we were bringing our own), so I asked the movers if they would bring it down to the basement for us if we paid an extra appliance fee.  They not only cheerfully moved it down there for us, but they wouldn't charge an extra fee, either!

I will definitely use Stairhopper next time we move (which will hopefully be never, because four moves in four years is enough, thank you very much).  They did a great job!

They did a decent job, but I wasn't blown away.

I was impressed by the speed in which they work. They were VERY FAST which is why I gave them 3 stars. However, some of my furniture was damaged in the process, and I didn't find the cost to be all that low like many reviewers reported.  Lastly, and I hate to even mention this because it sounds sooo stupid, they put my bed frame back together... backwards! I should mention I have yet to even fix it ten months later!

I decided to go with Stairhopper after reading really great reviews here on yelp  and receiving ridiculously high quotes from a few of their competitors I am so glad that I chose Stairhopper because they were were phenomenal!

Two movers showed up instead of the scheduled three but they discounted my hourly rate and seemed to do the work of three people anyway! They didn't even take a break for coffee and donuts that I provided. I was astonished at how quickly and seemingly effortlessly they got rid of our mountain of boxes. There were no hidden fees either. They asked us if we wanted our larger furniture items wrapped and informed us of the extra charge for the tape to wrap it with (i recommend it to protect your furniture)

The move was only 4.5 miles and they unloaded even quicker than they had loaded. They were both extremely friendly and courteous. The only "funny" thing I noticed is that, despite taking the time to label all boxes (LR for living room, RBR for rear bedroom, etc) they still asked where almost every box went! lol That's okay though....we felt guilty for standing around doing "nothing" while they sweated like crazy so we didn't mind "directing" lol

Hidden charges bah.....The actual price was almost $30 cheaper than their original quote.  Their price was comparable to "cheap" moving companies that are reputed to hit you with hidden fees. So really, why wouldn't you go with them

They were on time, they worked fast, nothing was broken despite my last minute night before dish packing. They let me ride in the truck with them so I didn't have to walk or bus it to my new apt. They even moved out an old chair from the new apt that I was too injured to move.

The person I spoke with to arrange the move was helpful and quick to respond to any inquiry.

They one way I think they could improve is to offer their service in getting parking permits if needed.  Not that I minded getting out of work early to got to City Hall, but i still needed to take that time off.

Other than that I thought they were great, efficient, affordable and friendly.

I'd give them 3.5 stars really...

I canceled my original movers and chose stairhoppers due to the outrageous amount of 5 star reviews on multiple sites.

Two things went wrong: Not major but a little bit of a damper on my high expectations of such an acclaimed moving service.
Everywhere I looked, I saw "no hidden fees" from reviewers. So when I heard "You want blankets to wrap your table in? You need tape to hold the blankets on? I'm going to have to charge you extra"...I was floored. Dude I'm sorry but no shit, you're movers that's how you move!

And number two. I have a monster bed. Even the Jordan's furniture people I bought it from had a hard time moving it in. you have to basically take the whole damn thing apart or else you'll break it and scratch it. My boyfriend and I both clearly explained two the guys that you must take the whole thing apart. And I even made a copy of the assembly instructions just for that reason.

I turn around and the next thing I see them trying to shove my headboard down this curvy stairway.
No! No no no no no. That is EXACTLY how it got broken the first time and it was a bitch to get it fixed and the warranty is gone.
And there were dirty hand prints all over my furniture!

Pros: They were wickedly on time which was great! They were communicative and helped us figure out where to put things and also moved this RTA piece of furniture I was convinced would fall apart if you tried. The overall price wasn't too bad. Less than $500. But they charge by the hour and that little issue with the bed definitely ate up some time.

I say use them but watch them and explain things over and over again if you want it to go your way.

When I moved from a 1st floor Medford apt to a 3rd floor JP apt in August, I decided I'd hire movers for the first time and give my dad's old back a break. (He's helped move me about 11 times since I was 18.) I was nervous because of all of the horror stories you hear about overcharging, hidden fees, broken stuff, stolen stuff, hijacked stuff, etc. I did a lot of research and Stairhoppers was one of about 20 companies that gave me an estimate. A few came in cheaper, but when I read the reviews on Yelp and CitySearch, I chose to go with these guys because they didn't have any negative reviews anywhere.

The day of my move, they were about 15 minutes late which scared the bejesus out of me (thought they weren't coming!), but it was 100% not their fault. Of course, the day I moved had to be the day they decided to close off Governor's Ave (my former street) and pave High Street (the only other access street to my apt.). I was amazed at the way Mona maneuvered the gigantic truck down my closed-off street. (I had to flag down a cop and get permission for the truck to come down the street...) When I got the bill at the end of the day, they didn't even charge me for the time they spent rerouting because of the detours!

The three guys started immediately after arriving and moved my entire 1 bedroom apartment into the truck in less than 1 hour. And I have a ton of crap. In addition to my furniture and millions of boxes of junk, I had over 20 huge, heavy boxes of books - they carried 3 boxes at a time! I was absolutely amazed at the speed and strength of these movers.

They followed me to my new place in JP and spent about 2 hours getting everything up to the 3rd floor. I still have no idea how they got my giant couch up the rickety old staircase, and how they quickly managed to hoist my boxspring up via the back deck - they worked miracles. They were fast, they were careful (not ONE thing broken, scratched, damaged, lost, etc.), and they worked so hard. My bill came to just over $450, which was exactly what they quoted me at even though I ended up having double the amount of boxes/furniture that I anticipated when they did my estimate.

If you are in the Boston area and need an affordable, trustworthy moving company, I would definitely go with Stairhoppers. Even though they're in Somerville and I'm in JP now, I'll hire them again for my next move - paying them to travel is worth not having to worry about your move.

These guys did a terrific job on an extremely last minute (noon, the day of) move.  They packed stuff incredibly quickly; we had expected them to take three hours to pack the things and maybe another half hour to put the boxes in the truck, but an hour and forty-five minutes later, they were done!

Very personable staff on the phone and in the home!  Of all the companies I called to ask for availability, this is the company that responded the fastest after telling me they'd "call in 5."  They called back in 3!  Very professional.

I firmly recommend these movers!

The moment I mentioned I needed to see their quote in writing in accordance to federal interstate shipping laws prior to giving them a $50 deposit for my move, they suddenly realized they'd booked for the entire time frame I needed to move and suggested I find another mover. They've also stolen almost all the reviews featured on their website from other moving companies in New York and Canada. Simply take any of their quotes, dump it into Google, and you'll see what I'm talking about. Being highly personable on the phone does not make a person not sleazy.
