Neighborhood: Brooklyn/Williamsburg - South SideGrand St (L)
They have affordable wine by the bottle, wifi, and couches. It is laidback and pleasant. BUT WHY DOES IT HAVE TO BE SO COLD? Please please turn ON the heat.
This is a friend's place (thus i have deducted one star to even out the bias) and i love her for getting out there and doing it. This place is the funky comfortable artsy fartsy type of Billy-burg place that we all used to know and love before yuppies took over and made it SOHOpelesslytrendy. When you get away from the first two stops on the L and into the real grit of the burg, you still have the flavor, however the creeping rot of gentrification is even reaching grand...there are ~6 new bars pushing up the avenue and there is a the distinct smell of Starbucks in the air...
Go to the website and get on the mailing list so you can keep abreast of the myriad of themed nights and open mike nights and if none of this excites you, Poe (the cat who fetches) will keep you occupied while you drink $4 Sarnac beer specials...

KER-SPLAT! This place is bananas. I went here for a birthday party and was impressed...great drink selection (blue point toasted lager, for example) cool decor, exceedingly friendly staff + patrons. Great place to get social and appreciate art + music.

very cool
free wifi
low key hangout ... chill vibe
This is a pleasant place, beautiful decor, nice sofas, friendly staff, board games, decent selection of wines and beers (around $4 a beer), and a beautiful restroom.
I went there on a cold winter evening to use their free wifi but had to leave as soon as I'd finished my beer because it was so cold! If they invest in some heating this would be a wonderful bar.

i went here on a cold rainy winter night last february and drank coffee and played scrabble. on a saturday night, the joint was pretty empty...couches aplenty. the large windows allow for gazing outside.
it's the perfect place to enjoy a cup of java, pass the time and kick someone's ass in scrabble!

Stain is seriously a undiscovered treasure in Williamsburg. They have tons of events - art shows, musicians, open mic, finger painting, and themed parties on the 31s of each month. Check this place out because its seriously great, and they deserve more business.
