Love the upstairs area! Great for getting some work down and watching people come in downstairs. Food is great for lunch, they have outdoor seating and on the weekends you can also examine small jewelry stands and nom some amazing pie!
I was here on a Sunday and there was some pretty chill live music going on outside. In general, the indoor seating is a bit limited, but a great experience otherwise! -

Worst coffee EVER. It looked like dirty thrice used dish cleaning water. I'm grossed out just thinking about it, and they sold it to me for $2.25 for less than 12 oz. I tried to pour half and half on it to mask the poor quality. Sadly, I could not overcome this dish water "coffee". Do yourself a favor and make your own; it will be a 1000x better. Trust me.
Otherwise, would rather go to La Boulange in Noe Valley or Starbuck's on Mariposa + 17th. -

I really wanted to love her. She was pretty yet approachable, had character and a was a bit sassy. As lovable as she was, I just couldn't do it - she was cold. That pretty much sums up the chilaquiles I was served at Stable Cafe.
Everyone knows the service at Stable Cafe is super slow, so don't visit if you're feeling impatient. Today I was feeling mellow so I decided to visit in search of the excellent egg-on-toast I had here a few weeks back. Unfortunately for me, that dreamy EOT was not on the menu. I'm OK with waiting, but I'm not OK with cold food, in particular cold eggs sunny side up. Yuck.
The sad fact is that I ate it anyway. Why? I just could not brave the slow service twice in visit.
I want to love Stable Cafe, but I don't know that I can rally for another date.
*tips - during a rush grab a table before ordering or you'll be standing around for long time as the place is tiny. -

Yummy food, Lousy service.
40 minute wait for a salad and sandwich? Really?! At a cafe? About 20 minutes after we had placed our order a staff member came out to tell me that they were out of the sandwich I had ordered. Um, okay. I picked another one and it took them an additional 20 minutes to bring that one out ! In the meantime most of the other tables that had come in WAY after us were getting their food. It wasn't even that busy. That being said, the food was pretty good so that almost makes up for it and I may be returning due to the close proximity to my house. They do have a large outdoor patio that I imagine being really nice in the summer. -

Laptop camper here. The former stable for police horses turned into a coffeehouse features 2 floors, an industrial vibe, and wood everywhere including the exposed building beams. Small tables and outdoor seating are inviting and the wi-fi is free, but there isn't a power outlet to be found in the seating areas.
The pastries look better than average and the eggs are "farm fresh" courtesy of a farm in Petaluma. The menu includes frittatas, granola, oatmeal, sandwiches, salads, etc. The menu is seasonal.
* Breakfast sandwich $5 - eggs weren't nuked but cooked nicely with gooey cheese, folded over, with scallions, served on thin wheat toast with seeds and nuts and stuff. The bread tasted really healthy and dry.
* Latte $3: one size, not bad but bitter on bottom, organic beans from De la Paz
The café clearly doesn't encourage lingering. Even the chairs are uncomfortable.
You know you love me. X0 X0, laptop camper.Listed in: Confessions of a Coffeeaholic, Free wi-fi + Food in SF

While I have only visited Stable Cafe a few times, I can say that i'm officially hooked as they were all within a two week period of discovering this gem. If you're one of those who is on the hunt for a spot with a cool and inspiring ambiance to post up with your laptop and get down to business while still having access to healthy nibbles and excellent coffee then this is the spot for you.
In addition, the history of this place adds to the strong personality of the space, complete with exposed beams and both indoor and outdoor seating.
While I have only been on weekdays and can say it has definitely been "happening" without being too crowded, I would imagine this place getting super popular on the weekends so be sure to plan accordingly. -
Review from Zoey S.
Grilled veggie sandwich is awesome and, despite the old timey vibe of the place, the quinoa salad tastes as modern as online dating. They also serve baked goods; I don't know if they are baked there, but they sure look as fresh as if they were! The place serves both breakfast and lunch, switching menus at unidentifiable times...
Also, the door in the bathroom is broken... but the place was laid back enough that an embarrassing moment just might be forgivable... -

Great woodsy interior (did it used to be a stable?) and sunny outdoor seating area. The sandwiches are simple and delicious, carried by high quality ingredients and tasteful combinations of ingredients (meats, brie, and flavorful roasted peppers are typical).
Accommodates work (best upstairs) and socializing (best outside). On weekends, Three Babes sells their pies by the slice right on Stable's grounds.
Spotty wifi, no outlets. -

I finally stepped in here for lunch and...wowza!!
I had the arugula salad with apples, walnuts, goat cheese and a delicious vinegarette. It was delicious!! and I also tried the quinoa salad and it was also very very tasty. Def. my new lunch spot.Listed in: Sometimes you need a little…, Breakfast + Lunch? BRUNCH

San Francisco, CA
Great location and ambiance (nice gravel lot next door with big garden tables where you can sit outside with your dog).
But overall I had a bad experience here.
I love - LURVE - french press coffee, so when I saw that they only serve coffee prepared with the french press method, I was very happy.
I didn't really notice it at the time, but they handed me my cup of coffee within about 15 seconds of my ordering it. That should have been a red flag, because French press takes a while to brew - about 3 minutes. You put the grinds in, add water, stir, rest the lid on the top of the jar, then wait about 3 minutes, stirring once about halfway through, then press the filter down. There's no way to short-circuit that process unless you want weak coffee. And you certainly don't prepare it in advance - it has to be prepared to order.
So, if I hadn't paid for coffee, I wouldn't have known it was coffee. It was watery and had no flavor. Well, maybe it tasted like dishwater. But no COFFEE flavor.
So, I brought it back up to the counter (mind you I had tipped $1 as I always do at coffee houses) and told them the coffee was awful. Their response? "We get compliments all the time on our coffee." I had literally only had two sips, as they could see.
I spent some time in food service in my high school and college days. My mom was a chef, and had her own coffee shop for a while, and I helped out growing up. I also worked as a waitress on my summer vacations to pay my way through college. At age 16, I already knew that The Customer Is Always Right. If someone complained, I offered to replace their food or rip up the bill. In my experience, people didn't complain very often, probably not as often as they should, so when they did, I trusted that they were telling the truth and they were really dissatisfied. And my job was to make them happy.
That seems to be an old-fashioned concept in customer service anymore.
The bored hipster baristas didn't offer to remake my French press or give me a refund, and I was jonesing for a coffee, so I paid another $2.25 for an Americano. What can I say? At least it was drinkable, unlike the so-called "French press." So I ended up paying $6.50, with tip, for one small barely drinkable coffee.
So, advice to future Stable Cafe customers - if you order French press and you don't have to wait at least 3 minutes, they're doing something wrong.
The Stable Cafe lost a potential customer that day. I'm in the Mission a lot, and I will go out of my way to go to a good coffee shop. But I'll never go back to the Stable Cafe. -

The long (not Fabio long, more like middle-aged woman long), curly/wavy-haired guy who works at the register is nauseatingly unpleasant. Sorry, but I don't remember ordering a side of contempt with my Luna sandwich.
The one star is for that one guy only, and it's because of him that I will not be returning. The food was decent, though ~ 3.5 stars. And the guy who actually brought us the food (possibly the manager) was nice. -

This place does my favorite brunch in all of San Francisco. Everything that comes out of that kitchen tastes fresh and delicious. Their breakfast foods on Sundays are heavenly, and their scones are to die for. They are the best scones I have ever had, anywhere.

Review from Greg G.
It's ok, not really anything to rave about. Actually I came here and ordered their quinoa salad. They said they would bring it right out. So I sat and waited... and waited... and I was like ok quinoa can be a pain to make on a per order basis ... so I waited. All this time I noticed people coming out with numbers and so then I decided to ask about my order. I was asked if I was sure I ordered too. I kind of felt insulted and then they said they would make it right away. However what happened next was just weird. The server just stood behind me with a plate (not even telling me he was there) and stood there for a bit. I got that odd feeling that I was being stared at looked behind me and he just held it up like here it is. All this without saying a word. So bizarre.
So I found a new seat. They have a pretty cool setup. A saloon looking place with an upstairs bar overlooking the large doors and the outside seating. Old wooden tables along the walls. Well I thought I might as well try this thing. So the quinoa salad was .... blah? I mean it had a lot of quinoa I think some olives (they had the texture at least but no real taste) and a thing of parsley or something. Not a fan. PowerSource does a better job with such food and cheaper. Anyways with the service being lame and the food being lame I don't think I would be back. But I do think the building and interior looks cool. -

Do you like:
-Long lines
-Average food
-Holier than thou attiudes
Then Stable is the place for you. Seriously, 20 minutes for an already brewed coffee and a slice of gross quiche that was already cut and just had to be put in a bag?
My favorite was when this unfortunate woman in front of me ordered a "grande" coffee. Rather than just say "we don't have grande, but we do have xyz" the d-bags behind the counter were like, "what's a grande?" and looked at her like she was a moron and made her describe a grande. They made her feel so bad she actually apologized for going to Starbucks. Who the hell do these people think they are? Get over yourselves!!
I wish I could personally shut this place down for bad customer service and general jerk-titude. And no, they did nothing whatsoever to slight me, I'm just appalled by what I've seen.
Can I give negative stars? -
Review from Carla G.
San Francisco, CA
My mechanic is around the block, and since my car seems to be in the shop pretty much once a month, I've become a semi-regular, since I like to stop in and get breakfast before I walk on home.
I likes:
The space is amazing. Outside is nice, airy, pleasant, well thought out, spacious, etc. Inside feels the same way, when it's not hot outside, which is pretty much never, so that's a positive.
I like knowing where my food is from, fresh, local, yada yada yada.
Farm fresh eggs are actually so much tastier than the stuff you get microwaved and schlopped on a breakfast bagel in most other coffee shops that have breakfast.
Negatives:
Hipster Quotient - quite high, but not as bad as anything near Dolores Park, so it's doable.*
Service - dude. the people who work here seem nice, if not a little spacy, but, seriously. One time, I stepped away from my table to put cream in my coffee, and the guy dumped my entire plate, from which I'd yet to take a single bite, into the bin. He did apologize, and they made me a new one, but they also seemed surprised that I was surprised they had done that.
Today, I waited in line over 15 minutes for a cuppa coffee, and then they said it would be another three minutes for a fresh cup, and so I got an Americano, and it was gross. I've had those before, and this one made me wish I'd just gone ahead and waited, making it an even 20 minutes. There has to be a happy medium between Starbucks or even Peets and 20 minutes.
Food: the egg bomba tastes like a giant microwaved egg in the middle of bread. And they didn't have hot sauce. Granted, this was over a year ago when I ordered it. But I remember being frustrated because they brought me my food but no condiments, and I had ordered Oatmeal for the wee one, and they did not bring milk or brown sugar, and then I had to go in and ask for it, and they had to go find it. This was when they first opened, so I think they've gotten more organized, but still.
The overall sense I get is that they say (I hear this in a Joe Pesci voice for some reason: " hey - we have fresh local ingredients of high quality and a beautiful spot, what more do you want from me...service? attention to detail? fuhgetabouit".....
Temperature:
If the sun is out and it's above 70 degrees, you could bring a towel and do a sauna indoors while you wait twenty minutes for your cup of coffee.
*I could probably figure out a way to chart/graph the very expensive skinny jeans ratio relative to how close you are to Bi-Rite, but there are two problems with that idea - 1: I can't chart or graph in this box. 2. I was an English major, so I'd probably get the math wrong, and math is important when creating charts and ratios, especially related to pricing and quantity of people wearing skinny jeans and recycled 80s ironic hair styles in a given square block area. -

THE MISTERY OF THE BLACK BUILDING
(3.8 stars)
The day i went they had some great music playing. Not sure what genre it was but it was better then all other cafe music i've heard. Great face, away from busy but close to busy. Parking was cake. The place is not in a busy area but of walking distance to busy-ness. No line and plenty of seating. Three Babes Bakeshop and Stable Cafe share the outdoor seating area. I'm such an idiot for ordering at Stable Cafe and not ordering anything from Three Bades Bakeshop (they server mini pies).
- Food, good (fresh and organic)
- Price, decent
- Service, good
- Ambiance, cute cozy cafe
Passed this place everytime I do my grocery shopping at Rainbow Groceries. It was definately one of those Sundays where "it's too damn nice to be inside doing nothing". I've dedicated Sundays as cafe days when I have no plans and nowhere to be; hiding from the world "LEAVE ME ALONE" kind of mood because I need to catch up on a book.
HEFFER-STYLE STATUS.
**See picture**
POMBA ($6.50) - the menu online is false, i was charged $6.50. It was toast, bacon (cant eat meat at this time), gouda, and a whole egg. Presentation of the place was clean; didnt understand why the bacon and the slice of gouda made an "X" over my toast. When they say "A WHOLE EGG" they literally cut a perfect circle in my thick slice of toast and put the egg inside (pretty cool!). It was a simple breakfast, nothing filling. I did not feel heavy after eating.
HOT COCOA (~$2+) - off the caffine and had to go with a different hot beverage. cocoa was creamy and smooth. they did not and nor did i, add any sugar. servered in a glass cup with a cool crooked spoon.
PELLIGRINO (~$2) - ordered me some snotty water to quench my thirst.
It was lunchtime and other people around me have ordered lunch items. I am a fool, i totally should have ordered a lunch item. They looked healthy and filling and the sandwiches look great. I suggest coming here to get lunch over breakfast.
Will I be back? Yes (for lunch). Its not like all those other cafe's in the city where it's overly packed. I can enjoy a cafe environment on my laptop, with my book, or with my journal.

Please, go ahead! Carefully hand-pick a song from your ipod's obviously fucking extensive library of post-rock, down tempo pitchfork reviewed hipster bullshit while I wait for you to begin making the latte I ordered 5 (yes, 5) minutes ago. You know, we don't all have slack-off jobs where we can just saunter in, helluv late, artfully disheveled and most likely stoned. I mean, that is totally my job...but that isn't the point. Now I know this isn't Starbucks and I appreciate that you make sweet love to every latte you pull, but I don't need you to dim the edison bulbs, pop on some mood music, light a scented candle, pour rose petals all over the espresso machine and go down on it too. Ever heard of a quickie? I need my latte. Fuckin step on it.
I'd like to say I'll never come back here because the service is distant, awkward, and lackadaisical shit...but that ain't true. The coffee is good, my friend works around the corner, and I want to get married in the outdoor area...if, of course, it were in Healdsburg. -

At this point, I've been here twice. Both times the coffee was excellent (cappuccino).
The second time we went, we got some breakfast. Got the pomba, I think--the one with toast, brie, egg and bacon. The bread was very very good (and perfectly buttery), very generous on the brie, egg was delicious (but we kinda wished it was just an over easy egg, not scrambled), and bacon was average.
All in all, I'll be coming back here a few more times before I move away from the city. Love the front of the cafe and the design inside is excellent as well. Staff are friendly and quick with service. -
Review from Mitch M.
San Francisco, CA
This place has totally gone to shit, and I am very sad to write this review, because I have been a regular here (1-3x/week) for about two years. I have had a lot of food quality and service problems during that time, but I kept going back because I enjoyed the atmosphere, the music, and the eggs and have had a nice rapport with the managers.
I can really relate to the other reviewer who said: "You've consistently been the only staff in SF that makes me regret tipping."
I've stayed through numerous frustrating incidents including a period in which they were advertising farm fresh eggs but instead secretly substituting factory farmed eggs that were not even organic and a period while they had a front staff member who was so incompetent and stone-headed that he screwed up and/or lost every single order that I ever placed with him, without exception! And, I've stayed even though the quality of the coffee has been very inconsistent, depending on the barista, ranging from undrinkable bitter crap to something that almost approached the quality I'd expect from a proper mission cafe.
But, now they've replaced that moron with a hostile dick-head who sounds to me like the same person that some other reviewers have been talking about as well, describing as angry and rude. So, a couple weeks ago, I placed an order with him for a cappucino, the same drink by the way that I've been ordering for two years. He took my order then I waited, and waited, and waited, and waited. After waiting for about 30 minutes, I went to the counter and asked one of the managers to confirm that my drink was in the queue. The manager just waved me away and didn't even acknowledge me, while the other rude and hostile barista guy simply ignored me, as per usual. I went back to my seat and waited for another 5-10 minutes. Still nothing. So, I went back, and this time I demanded attention. I spoke directly to him in a firm voice despite his insistent efforts to avoid any eye contact and asked him to confirm that he had my order for a cappucino in the queue. He angrily said "no" and gave me a look like he wanted to pound my face into the floor just for asking. So, I placed an order 35 minutes before for a cappucino, and he told me it wasn't in the queue, so what am I supposed to do, just walk out, and apologize for bothering him? Fuck! So, I told him I'd like my cappucino. He didn't say a word to me. Didn't look at me. Totally ignored me. Then he angrily threw a cup of cappucino on the counter as though I was doing something horrible for asking to have a cappucino that I had ordered and paid for 35 minutes before and after he had served about 6 people who had ordered AFTER me. Not a word. No apology. No comment. Just throws a cappuccino on the counter and ignores me.
The final straw happened last week when I ordered a potato/egg dish called a tortilla de patatas. This is my favorite dish and something that I've been ordering whenever it was on the menu since I started going there. The quality has always been very inconsistent, but it has always been within the range of being edible. Until last week. After waiting an exceptionally long time to be served (again, something like 30 minutes and after others who ordered after me were already half way through their dishes), I got this thing that was completely unrecognizable. The eggs had apparently been cooked to oblivion. I'm not exaggerating when I say that one could barely tell it was an egg dish. The eggs had the texture of cheap beef jerky. They were 100% totally dry and so hard that I ended up eating them with my hands like they were crackers. It also was not served with the side dish that it's supposed to come with (a dipping sauce). When the dish was thrown down on my table by the hostile asshole barista, he just walked away. I yelled at him while he had his back to me to get his attention and asked him why the side dish wasn't there. He didn't even turn to face me and then said "we don't have it" while he was walking away. No apology. No substitution. No acknowledgement. Why did I eat this, you might be wondering? Because I was fucking starving and had waited so long for any food to be served, and I had to get to work, and I could't bear the thought of facing off with another argument with the asshole barista guy and waiting another 30 minutes for some other dish that will be screwed up in unimaginable ways. So, I sadly sat there and chewed on this monstrosity of an egg plate. How could any chef possibly have produced this? It was not within the range of failure that could be overlooked.
It's stunning to me why such a loyal customer would be treated with such utter contempt and disrespect. I'm done. -

Stable brews De La Paz coffee and it's really good. Really really good.
I also ordered a chicken sandwich which was had well toasted bread and yadda yadda ok who cares about the sandwich, lets go back to talking about the coffee. Get the frenchpressedbrew, bring a book, and just sit for a while. Refills are free. But you won't be able to handle more than two cups. You'll be wired. Its good. Damn good. Before I left I bought a bag of the Perfume V beans and took them home with me. Normally I finish off a bag of beans in a few months... but not these beans. They were gone in a few weeks.
The ambiance at Stable is quite nice too. Seating on two levels, huge windows so you get lots of mission sun, wooden tables and chairs. It's a great place to hang out for a while and get some work done.
The location is a bit off from the main mission hangouts and the hours are a bit of a downer - they close by four. Stable, stay open and serve that coffee all day long. Actually it may be a good thing they close by four - I'd would never be able to fall asleep from all the caffeine if they stayed open any later.
On a side note the staff there is a bit hipster-douchey, but they do make the coffee so I suppose they are allowed to be that way. -

Wow! I'm so excited to have found this little cafe. They have a nice sunlit outdoor patio (which is nice on sunny days).
I had a sandwich with asparagus, goat cheese and an egg fried on top. I hate eggs. But this looked (and tasted) so delicious that I gobbled it up and haven't had a day go by where I haven't craved another one. It also came with a fruit salad made of strawberries, bananas and pineapple - not the cheap watered down honeydew fruit salad most places serve.
The croissant I ordered for my 2-yr old pal was flaky and buttery with crispy crust - yum.
My cappuccino was just as good as a blue bottle or sightglass.
I am coming back. -

This hip Mission Cafe is located less than a block from my office so I typically make at least one trip here each week. With high quality food and a relaxed atmosphere it's a great place for a long lunch with a good book.
The quinoa vegetable salad is a healthy and delicious choice. They also have a large and varied selection of panini's. All of which are good and made to order - just note when ordering one to go you'll find the small salad that usually accompanies the order is missing - what gives?
*Update: My go to order has become the excellent grilled veggie sandwich. A good mix of vegetables and goat cheese on rye bread. Super so good. Bumping my overall rating up to 4 stars. -

Went to Stable Cafe for the first time while visiting family and was pleasantly surprised!
The Cafe kind of sneaks up on you in this neighborhood... but a great addition.
I had the vegetarian sandwich and it was wonderful :) I loved the portobella mushroom, roasted red bell peppers but especially loved the spears of asparagus... yummm.
It was served with a nice portion of green salad, all-in-all it was well worth the $8.50.
Some have commented on the wait time, we got our lunches really quickly and sat outside.
The only odd thing was they didn't serve any decaf coffee, so we had iced Chai and a mango juice. -

Sad to say this but the friendliness is gone. New guys working the register and new baristas that look angry. No decaf, no herbal tea (not trying to be high maintenance, just following doctors orders, sorry.) Lunch menu looks and smells greasy. The patio is still sunny. I will go back, hoping I've just had bad luck recently.

I dont check yelp regularly, and I dont write reviews often either, but this one is because It amazes me how people take the time to write letters (pages almost) full of nasty words, almost like if they were so frustated with life that they were on their way to jump the Golden Gate Bridge to their dead. I've been a regular at Stable Cafe and the reviews about them sound so false that they could come from the competition (Ha!). For me, the food its been consistent and the place looks always good. Today I went for lunch and had the Tostada Salad, it was Gooood ! and I ate lunch listening to this talented guys who play every Friday here. I won't blame them if they have a bad or rude employee, I'm sure they will do something about it. Stable is still one of my regular spots in the whole City.

What an impressionably cute space for a cafe? My first impression is how spacious the backyard area is, perfect for brunch outside on a lovely day like today.
The staff is attentive and friendly. The servings are smaller, nonAmerican sized bites, which is perfect for portion control, and prices are super reasonable.
Good cup of jo and solid cappuccinos.
My friend chose to come here as she needed some "STABLE"-LITY in her life. But come to find out the place used to be a stable, thus the name... Stable Cafe.
Will definitely visit again.Listed in: Mission Must Visits

In all candor, I just stopped in here for a drink and to do some work on the top floor, so I can't comment on their food (have heard that it is delicious). The space itself is really nice, and there is a top level where you can grab a bite/work on some stuff in relative quiet. On those rare, warm SF days it can get a bit toasty at the very top, but overall a nice place to stop by.

Honestly the worst cafe experience i've had in San Francisco. I was excited to check it out, as its on my new commute to work. My mistake, i will never go back in there.
I walk in and there's six people in line, although there are plenty of people working, only one guy is slowly taking orders and making drinks. It takes me 15 mins to get to the front of the line, so i ordered a pre-assembled sandwich and ask them to heat it up. It was 6.50 for a croissant ham and cheese (RIPOFF), but, to add insult to injury, another dollar for a credit charge.
I sat down and waiting another 10 mins for my ham and cheese sandwich to be heated before getting up and asking the manager is i can have it cold or not. The manager was a pompous dick.
This place fucking blows. Stable cafe has a good atmosphere, all at the cost of their service and quality. DON'T GO THERE.
Oh yeah, as for the hame sandwich, it sucked. I wouldn't feed it to my dog. -

DELICIOUS GOODNESS!!! Chatted with the owner and found out he has his own chicken farm. He was super nice and the food was so fresh and good. I got the Mushroom with goat cheese panini. The bread even had walnuts in it! They used organic honey in their lattes and it was tasty!
