St. Supery is a great winery (even if it is in Napa).  What hooked me was the deliciousness and amazingness (I love making up words) of the wines.

The tasting room is a nice, quaint cottage that conveys a sense of old-school and serenity.  It combines subtle elegance with a beautiful "wine wall" where racks hold up the wines behind the tasting bar.  On to the wines!

For me, the wines at St. Supery are consistently great.  The single varietals are all good, with standouts being the white wines, especially the Moscato and Sauvignon Blanc.  The reason I love St. Supery, are the blends.  St. Supery really was the first winery to introduce me to Blends, which I now love and hold dearly.  A great blend is able to convey the true talent of the wine maker, and not just the vine, and is amazing!  St. Supery has two blends, the red blend that is Elu and the white blend that is Virtu.  Elu is good and worth every drop.  Virtu is the one that lured me to St. Supery and made me love.  Virtu, a blend of several whites, has a depth of flavor and texture that many single varietal white wines do not have, and will make you appreciate, nay, love! a white wine.

Go to St. Supery (if you are crowded Napa), and enjoy the blends to see what I am ranting and raving about.

I went here as one of our 5 wine tasting stops..  Prior to my visit, I had never heard of St. Supery - but I am definitely a fan now and even look for it.  They have great reds and the tasting experience was friendly, simple and elegant.

I would definitely recommend St. Supery to introduce someone to wines outside of the common well known wineries to add this to their repertoire.

OMG this entire time I thought I had already written a review for St. Supery, and just went to double check and found nothing! Must change that.

I came here a little while ago with a few friends. And I was very impressed. The outside of the building looks like a corporate building, kinda weird, and I guess they were renovating their main tasting room so we were diverted to the upstairs area by an incredibly friendly and funny older gentleman. When we went upstairs, there was ample seating on couches with people doing tastings, but we decided to do our tasting at the bar.

We were greeted by an incredibly friendly gal (I'm so sorry I don't remember her name), but she was just a doll. She explained the history of St. Supery winery and went into depth with the wines that we tried. Can I just say.. the wines are freaking incredible? I was not expecting it at all! So good, I actually want to join the wine club. Unfortunately I lost my job recently so going to wait until I have money coming in to join the club, but that's another story! I would say I loved all the wines, but I think the only one I didn't like was the Unoaked Chardonnay. However, that's not St. Supery's fault. I just don't like unoaked chards!

Definitely going to come here again. Definitely love the wines. Definitely love the people. Definitely going to join the wine club.

I just wanted to update my review and thank Lesley from St. Supery. Lesley contacted me acknowledging what had happened and offered to send me replacements for free. Now this would entice me to come back and be part of the wine club because their wines are spectacular.

    Thank you again!

From what I gather, St. Supery doesn't have the reputation it had a couple of decades ago, but what do I know?  I'm pretty much a casual wine drinker.  Anyway, we liked most of what we tried in the tasting room, although it seemed to fall into the middle territory of what we tasted over a two-day span at a half-dozen wineries or so.  The Elu sure is a nice one but doesn't seem like it's worth sixty-five bucks.

We are wine-country naifs, as least relatively so, and the main reason we stopped by was St Supery's self-guided tour, which is a bit more extensive than the average winery's.  At harvest time, you can watch from a balcony as trucks unload grapes into a crusher that de-stems them and begins transforming them into must.  You can then walk over a catwalk to see the fermentation tanks.  There is the "Smell-A-Vision" exhibit that purports to give you the aromas of St. Supery's wines; it seems a bit redundant when there's a tasting room downstairs with actual wines.  There is another balcony where you can watch workers, some of them astonishingly young, sort white grapes.  Best of all is probably the demonstration vineyeard, where you can roam among different varieties of grapes and even taste them.

We recommend checking out St. Supery, if only for this little tour, which you can run through in a half hour or less.

Another great day at St. Superey.  Yes, we are wine club members, and we taste everything on the menu for free, so maybe we are biased. But, I wanted to give a special shout out to Joe upstairs. On first blush he may seem gruff, but he is fun, nice, talented, and knowledgeable. I think he treats you reciprocally.

I like the St. Superey Cabernet Sauvignons the best, and their Merlot the least. Whites and blends are also top notch.

I love love love the wine here!  The drive into the winery is beautiful on a sunny day.  The path is lined with trees that hover over the road.

We were able to use a 2 for 1 tasting deal that we found on http://eConcierges.com.  That came out to $15 for 2 tastings.  We stayed in the downstairs tasting room.  I believe the upstairs room offered the reserve wines.  The lady that poured our tastings was very helpful and informative.  She didn't try to rush us or anything.  Our favorite wine out of all was the Sauvignon Blanc.  It had the most wonderful fruit smell.  Their white and reds are very smooth and don't have that bite at the end.  Their wines are offered at your local grocery store which is great.  I would definitely come back and try out the wines in the upstairs tasting room.

I came here for the small Thiebaud exhibit and tasted some wines while I was at it.

Was not super impressed with the wines we tasted here.  Our pourer was new to the job or something and did not give us much information about their wine.  My boyfriend came half an hour after my girlfriend and I tasted and he said he tried two wines that were not on the list and loved them.  He had a different person pouring his wine for him.

I did like the grounds because kids and dogs can run around.  Nothing too picturesque, just lots of space and a little bocce court.

We were here on a Tuesday around 3pm and it was moderately busy, but we still got pretty easy service.

The tasting room is in a rather boring area and the pourer got upset with me when I told her the wine was just "ok." Hey, she asked.

There is a great demonstration vineyard off to the right when you drive in. We walked through it and enjoyed picking some grapes off the vine. This place is just "ok."

I came here with a group of friends (one is a member of the winery) this past Saturday and LOVED it!  First of all, St. Supery is dog friendly.  I brought my dog with me and he was able to go everywhere I was - even on the wine tasting tour down to the barrels! The staff was incredibly friendly - made us feel right at home from the minute we stepped inside.  They joked with us, wanted to learn about us, and also treated my dog like he was their own.  I really appreciated it.  The outside landscaping is picture-perfect filled with flowers and trees (much prettier than some of the other wineries).  I didn't love the Sauvignon Blanc that much (they are famous for it), but some of the reds were really nice.

Another thing that I liked was that this place is more underground, so it wasn't filled with crowds of tourists like Rubicon and Mondavi are.  We were able to relax and enjoy without bumping into people.  Thanks St. Supery for a great time!

I have to give it to St. Supery. I've never visited or felt the need until last Christmas when a friend brought an unassuming bottle of Sav Blanc and it changed my life.

Quite literally, as ever since I got into red wines I've just been sort of out of touch with white wines and writing them off as less than stellar because quite honestly I probably haven't had stellar whites.

St. Supery is mind blowingly good white wine. I can't say the same about their reds but all of their white wines are just amazingly fragrant, delicious, refreshing and tingling to the senses. There is no better choice if you're in the Napa / St. Helena region I've found yet for a fantastic white that is delicious AND affordable. Scratch that, it's cheap! I'm used to the $50/bottle mark so a $30 reserve white just floors me.

The tasting room is nice, but very practical for tasting. The sales folks are pushy on their wine club which I had no interest in but we did pick up quite a few bottles of whites which I am sooo excited to enjoy! This is a recommended stop especially if white wine is your thing.

We liked it, for atmosphere in a tasting room, and it's dog-friendly, which is cool when we wanna take a trip and bring the boys.

The wine was good.  The oak-free Chardonnay sticks out as best, and we got some, but the rest was alright.  Better than average.  They're such great service that I almost feel bad not rating it ALL good, but hey, it's seasonal.  Go for the service, and you'll find a wine you like.

We tried to go to this winery with a large group last December and were unsuccessful but it looked pretty interesting (from the outside), so I decided I wanted to go back when my boyfriend and I got a chance.

We split a tasting and found out that their moscato is the most popular wine they offer.  I was excited to try it since I love moscato (what girl doesn't?!) but was disappointed with it.  Although it smelled wonderful, it wasn't as sweet as I would have liked.  We had just left an event at Mondavi where we sampled their moscato, and thought it was much better.  Also, I'm definitely no wine connorsieur but I found it hard to justify the cost (per bottle) of the wines we sampled, though 5 tastings were only $15 (and reserve was $25).

Service was pretty standard; the woman who served our tasting was informative and friendly enough.

Overall, I thought our experience was okay.  I wouldn't list it as a must see though if you have limited time in Napa.

We really liked the atmosphere and the roomy tasting room. The service was fine. We also appreciate that it's a dog friendly winery.

I wasn't so impressed with the Sauvignon Blanc (which is what they seem to be known for), but their oak-free chardonnay was excellent and ended up taking home a bottle.

As for the rest of the tastings, nothing really stood out... but it could very well be because this was our third and last winery visit of the day and my taste buds were close to being shot, so I'm willing to make a second visit. At the same time, I agree with Laura S., I wouldn't put this on a must-see list if you have a limited time in Napa.

If you have cab fatigue or are looking for something cold, crisp, and refreshing on a hot wine country day, I highly recommend stopping by St. Supery for a tasting. I've been a big fan of their Sauvignon Blancs for some time now and was pleasantly surprised by their Malbec and some of their red blends.

The tasting room is quite and cool. Keith poured for our group and didn't bat an eye at the chaos of 6 people, 1 dog, and 3 of us trying to activate our foursquare special. He was able to gauge when to pour and talk about the wines and when to let us chat and catch up. He didn't do a hard sell on bottles or wine club deals, but two of joined their club and we left with a number of bottles. Tasting fees range from $10-25 and are refunded with wine purchases. Plenty of outdoor seating under the shady grape arbor or at the little bistro tables in front of the tasting room if you need to relax and soak up some sun.

My favorite winery of the day!  I love the wooden front door, also love the interior.  The ambience is comfortable yet classy.  I like that it was nice and quiet when we visited (maybe because it was around 11am :P).  The staff who helped us was friendly and knowledgable - I definitely learned more about wine.

I enjoyed the combination of wines in the $25 tasting menu.  My favorite was the 2006 Élu, which, according to the lady is mainly Cabernet with a bit of Merlot and Petit Verdot.  Oh of course, the Moscato was delicious, too!  Definitely want to revisit.

A friend recommended St. Supery and ultimately she proved she has great taste!

The grounds are beautiful and the wine is amazing.  Loved the Sauvignons and left with a bottle of their un-oaked Chardonnay.

I believe we paid $15 per person to taste and the fee was refunded when we bought a bottle.

I usually avoid St Suprey on wine tasting trips thanks to excessive tasting fees and hordes of tourists. I must say though the wines they're currently pouring were fantastic. Being a fan of reds, I found myself surprised to be thrilled over their chardonnay. If you're cheap like yours truly you'll stick to the $10-$15 tastings on the main floor. For those feeling saucier, head to the second floor for the premium tasting with really fantastic wines.

The parental units headed straight upstairs and when we were finished with our poor man's tastings we headed upstairs to find them lounging on cushy leather chairs sipping wine. My only complaint was that customer service was sorely lacking upstairs. Our wine guide would pour a few wines and then take off for hours. If it didn't take the better part of the afternoon to taste some wines here I would recommend this place hands down.

    SMH.

Yep. You got it. I'm "shaking my head".

Our visit started off great. We walked in, and to my surprise, my name appeared in their little showcase of events for the day. I felt so special.
    http://www.yelp.com/bi...

However, it went downhill from there. Service this time around wasn't up to par. Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed.

The awesome service from my last visit (thanks Grant), coupled w/ the deliciousness of their Moscato, convinced me to join their wine club. Why not join? Complimentary reserved tastings & bottle discounts sounded like a wonderful idea @first.

A group of girlfriends and I planned a fun-filled day trip to Napa, so figured I'd take advantage of my wine club perks & reserve a private complimentary tasting, which was held upstairs.

Originally, I called to make a reservation for 8. I left two voicemail messages. I never got any return calls.

I decided three times a charm, so I called back again to make a reservation. While in mid-conversation w/ the receptionist, without her even saying hold on, she clicks over and answers another line.. all the while I'm still talking. Who does that? Imagine carrying a conversation with nobody on the other line. Moded.

On the day of, our private room reservation @12:30pm was suddenly switched to the main public tasting room. It was a full house in there. There were 8 of us girls.

Our tasting hostess was non-attentive, barely present, and rushed our visit. Forget the personable service I experienced from my first visit, this last one was pretty terrible. Where was Grant?

We were in and out of there in about 15 minutes.

Hmm. Is this really the way they treat their wine club members? It was a little embarrassing, especially because I spoke so highly of this place to my gf's.

Nice winery with a very memorable Sauv Blanc.  The nose was very fruity and bright, with almost a perfume-like quality.  I can see why some people have requested that they make a scented candle with the same smell.  On the palate, this wine was smooth, and much more mellow that the nose suggests, but actually making it more drinkable and offering a different flavor than one might expect.  Quite good.  The red wines were not as memorable, but still pretty good.  However, I have had better reds for the price elsewhere.

When driving down highway 29 a few wineries always stick out to me more than others. St. Supery is one of them as their sign really stands out as the bushes in front of it are filled with bright colorful flowers.

Tasting prices are a good deal at only $15 for 4 pours. For $5 more you can do the Reserve Tasting which is located upstairs. They have special tastings and seminars that you can reserve a spot for. And if you are their wine club member you get discounted pricing.

Their reds are good but I go to St Supery when I'm in the mood for a good white. Their Sauv Blanc is one of the best I have had and I love their Moscato. Reasonably priced and delicious I picked up a bottle for myself as well as one for a gift. Hope AV and EV enjoy (:

Horrible, rude service-- average, sub-par wines.  One of the other reviewers (Mary) hit the mark with her take on the wines:   "Sub-par over-corporatized" wines.  I couldn't agree more.

With so many boutique wineries in the area the "mass-produced" St Supery wines have lost the appeal they had years ago.  We used to go there often (every other year 7-15 years ago) and enjoyed most of the wines.  We even had a holiday party there at the Atkins house which was beautiful.

Oh how things change.  The wines are not even close to what they used to be and the place has lost its charm.  Tourist trap.  Yesterday, after not visiting in a few years we noticed it is now all about sales and trying to get you to join the wine club.

We had to wait 15 minutes to be greeted and then once we were, we showed the male wine steward our "life time" tasting passes and basically got laughed at.   You would think they would have been "extra special" to us... I guess not.  That was the final straw after avoiding us and making us wait to even be acknowledged.  The male pourer mentioned something rude like "We haven't given those out in years. We'll honor it but you can only pick 3 wines from the basic menu."  How's that for a "Welcome Back".

How St Supe has garnered the Yelp reviews it has is astounding to me.  These days, it's all about selling there and the personal touch is long gone.  Cold, not friendly, rushed and most importantly below average wines at very high prices.  FYI--You can find many of their wines in grocery stores.

    ---

    In response to Rebecca's reply:

Thank you for taking the time to reply and your offer of "taking care of us" in the future.  As we won't be returning, my suggestion for you would be to talk to your wine staff and remind them of what the true meaning of hospitality is (especially the tall guy who was working at the far end away from the main entrance).  I know it gets busy in there (as it was yesterday 8/22/10) but have the staff acknowledge your  guests and say "Someone will be wtih you shortly..."

Most of all, if someone gives you a lifetime tasting card, you should be honored that they have returned to your winery and treat them with the respect they deserve.  To me, that shows true loyalty from a guest. What really  annoyed me is the fact that we have spent a lot of money with you over the years as a wine club member (including the private holiday party catered event) and to be treated as we were yesterday is unacceptable.  I know it isn't your fault personally so my hope is that you will learn from this and talk to your tasting room staff.

For you fellow Yelpers out there, I've found the smaller, more intimate Napa wineries are offering amazing wines as well as a great guest experience. You are going to pay a premium in the valley. We hardly come to Napa these days as it is crowded and full of tourists.  Head over to Dry Creek -- it is much less crowded and offers a completely different wine experience.  You can actually talk to the winemakers and the tasting rooms are friendly, not rushed and they usually offer free tastings or refund it w/purchase.

St. Supery is a lovely and unpretentious winery. They have a great variety of both whites and reds, and even a rose which is nice and dry (not sweet).

Their Virtu and Elu are white and red blends, respectively, which are different each year, but are always interesting. Just about everything they make is very good, but among the best is:

    Dollarhide Sauvignon Blanc
    Chardonnay (either oaked or unoaked)
2006 Merlot -- this was a very good year!
    Semillon

The winery grounds are peaceful and very pretty. St. Supery doesn't seem to get as crazy crowded as some of the neighboring wineries. So come and enjoy, but don't tell too many people!

This weekend a girlfriend of mine decided to celebrate her birthday in Napa @ the wineries. One of our stops was St. Supery. St. Supery is a family own estate. I was very impressed with their White Wines. For taste tasting their were a couple of choices to choose from, for example: 4 tastings for $15.00 or 3 tastings for $10.00 which was an awesome deal. Our host was really funny and informative about the wines he brought out. Aaron our host he even mentioned if we didn't like the wine he brought out he would accommodate us by bringing out something different.

My favorite was the Moscato. When I took my first sip, I loved it!! I highly recommend buying a bottle or two. Two of my girlfriends bought a couple of bottles and one of them signed up for membership. The membership was $35.00 a year? and by actually signing up for the membership it comped our wine tasting fee's and discounted bottles of wine. Their were 5 of us ladies and that was quite a deal!

St. Supery does not need reservations, so I suggest everyone should make an attempt to stop by =)

With all the wineries in Napa along 29, you can easily miss this little gem.  It is nestled between Cakebread and Peju, both places that merit a visit as well.  But Supery carries its own and, if you are like me and have a soft place in your heart for sauvignon blanc, then this is the place to go.  I am much more a fan of white wine than red, and their sauvignon is crisp, fresh, and has hints of fruit.  It pairs excellently with almost anything, and I have been known to drink it with pizza one night and steak the next.  Now Supery also carries a bevy of other wines that are delicious, and they have a fabulous gallery upstairs with an adult Willy Wonka version of scratch and sniff for some of their wines.  Overall St. Supery is worth a visit and a lighter wallet .

St Supery holds a special place in my heart as it is my frist wine tasting experience and they have -hands down- the best Moscato.

Joe is an amazing guy and is very knowledgable about his wines, but presents it in a very colloquial manner. I love how everything here is so good and I'm tempted to buy a bottle (or several) of their wines before I go.

We got crazy hooked up here!  I went to Napa for the first time a few weeks ago and my friend and fellow Yelper Fiona Y. got the major hookup for a private tasting at St. Supery!  Super posh.

They even had us on the welcoming sign that said GIRLS GONE WINE TASTING.  It was perfect since it was a group of 8 of us.

We got generous tastings of a bunch of white wines but my absolutely favorite was the Moscato.  I bought a bottle and now wish I had bought more because its not sold in stores.

They do have some wines in retail locations tho.

The private tasting lasted for about an hour.  It was quick and straight to the point for us to enjoy our wine.

I like the location, it has a long driveway and then you see this plantation looking building.  So southern looking.

I loved the whites here! Enjoy!

Went to this Winery on Veterans Day around 4pm. Their tasting room building looks like an office complex and not a winery. The grounds were nice enough. The inside is quite large and has lots of merchandise for sale. Had a $25 tasting..wine was alright but way over priced!! Won't return.

Who will win the battle of supremacy for the future of St. Supery? The hoardes of thirsty motorcoach tourists who'll drink whatever is placed in front of them? Or the heartfelt, carefulyl crafted, and often brilliantly executed winemakers that established this outfit's reputation years ago?

Pull up a seat and let's see what happens.

THE BEST MOSCATO IN THE WORLD!!!!  I love this winery.  I make it a point to stop by every time I am in Napa.  Here's a tip if you like moscatos:

Take the moscato and some mixed berries.  Leave the berries to soak in the moscato for an hour or so in the fridge.  Take some pound cake and drizzle the moscato from the berries on the cake.  Top the cake with the berries and add a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

    THIS IS THE PERFECT DESERT!

From the sign on the road the tasting room should have been quainter. Like in the adjoining Victorian house. The wine was good. Sauv blanc and moscato in particular. Friendly patrons and pourer punctuated the experience.

This was our next stop and was totally recommended by someone in our party.

The muscato was AMAZING. I mean, the other wines were delicious and great but I totally fell in love with Muscato and joined their wine club just for that.

Our wine pourer was fantastic! We had a great time tasting and just enjoying the different wines in the flights.  I had to have a bit more of the muscato.

The tasting room is spacious and air-conditioned, a relief against the heat outside. There's cute displays of wine-related items (including Riedel glasses) and wines.

    Stop four: St. Supery.

OK, so I know a group of 17 Asian adults may seem scary to some, but we're in California...right?

Ronald T. is a member of the moscato club.  More than half of the group didn't even go inside.  Some of the girls used the restroom only to come out and see our group unhappy.

So apparently one of the workers has told us that we weren't allowed to even be there because we didn't make an appointment and our group is larger than seven.  OK, I get that...perfectly understandable.  BUT, seeing how there are ten of us outside, NOT wine tasting, I don't think they count towards the headcount.  The same worker came back and told us if we left he would give us two bottles of wine.  In a soft whisper so no one else can hear.

Yes, the guy was trying to shoo us away by bribing us.  How's that for customer service?

We still have love for the St. Supery wine, and Laurie is the most amazing person there.  This experience just left a really sour taste in our mouths.  And there's 17 of us.  Word of mouth transfers...
