So I'm not really a "yelper" as I have about ten million better things that I could be doing. However stumbling across this little gem today has me motivated. I'm originally from Baltimore, live in Sunnyvale and on this day decided hit Mt. View. It was awesome to find a place showing my Ravens. There were plenty of TVs, great sound and fellow football enthusiasts. Including some heckling security :)

We went for the breakfast and half price mimosas of which neither disappointed. It also happened to be my birthday and when we asked for a round of shots they brought over purple colored ones! Ravens baby!!! After ringing up a pretty pricy tab and cheering up a storm my team handled business!!! My friend was visiting from home and as a season ticket holder unable to see the game at home St Stevens made a more than decent runner up for her. My friends and I had a great time and I'm sure we'll be back for more.

Thanks to our waitress and the bartender!!! You girls rock!!! Excellent service and fun outgoing personalities. I'm still tipsy. Might need to spell check this later.

Ps. Minus one star for the bathroom situation. Upgrade?

Went here on Trivia night (Wednesday night), and it was alright.  It was my first Trivia night and I didn't really know what to expect, but it ended up being pretty fun.  They did a lot of questions on celebrities, sports, and music, which i totally suck at, but luckily my teammates knew a little more than I did and we were able to answer about half of the questions correctly. =)

I had myself a few rounds of Blue Moon, which was awesome b/c Blue Moon is ALWAYS awesome.  I also had the gorgonzola salad which was pretty mediocre.  I asked for chicken with it and I assumed it would be like an extra dollar or two, but it turned out to be an extra $4 for dry and overcooked bite size pieces of chicken! So i ended up paying about $15 for this salad! Soo super lame.

Overall it was a fun night catching up with my girls and having some drinks during the  night, but this place is just okay...nothing special in my opinion.

My significant other and I just moved to Mountain View from the Midwest, and had visited St. Stephens Green back in the summer while interning. We had a great experience back then, and decided to bring friends for dinner and drinks last week, after we were all settled in.

We brought a party of six, on a Thursday night, and it was very crowded and noisy--to be expected, though, for an almost-weekend night. Our waitress served our drinks, then promptly disappeared for over an hour. We finally went to the bar to order, were told that we couldn't order from the bar because we'd already had a waitress open a ticket. Fine. Waitress finally shows up half an hour later, we place our orders, and waited another 35 minutes. Not a big deal, we were there for friends more than food.

We decided to give it another go for Sunday brunch today, because it's less busy and decidedly probably a better crowd. Boy, were we wrong.

We seated ourselves, and were promptly blasted out of our seats by the Ravens/Patriot game playing overly loud and on every projection screen in the building. The waitress took our orders for water, brought them back, and told us about breakfast specials...and then disappeared again for thirty minutes. After figuring out what we wanted, waiting patiently, and flagging down yet another bartender to find our waitress, someone else put in our orders. No big. We waited, yet again, for over an hour for food, while a bunch of Ravens fans downed shots and screamed every time someone looked at a purple shirt funny. Seriously, it's brunch. Brunch. At ten AM.

Our food arrived just as we were putting on our jackets to leave. Again, a different waitress than the first two. We ate, asked for our check, and noticed we'd been charged for four Sex On The Beach drinks.

My head exploded. I was already pissed off, and we'd only gotten water. They corrected the bill, our original waitress finally showed up...and didn't apologize, but said "I was at work until three thirty this morning." No apology, just a snippy comment. Sorry, sweetheart, I was at work until early this morning too.

I'm not coming back. What happened to the pub environment? It looks like it is being run into the ground by a bunch of careless waitstaff and management that only cares about sales, not satisfaction.

Good place to watch the game. Lots of tvs. Food is ok, onion rings are awesome. On Saturday night it turns into Latin night like most of the other places on Castro. DJ sucks and doesn't respond to requests. Might as well be pandora.

If I could give zero stars, I would. These elitist jerks won't let in my friend wearing a sweat shirt. I used to be a regular customer and consumer of many drinks, and as Homer would say... "You just lost yourself a customer!"

Here's a tip: you're a shitty bar that people go to for shitty music and mediocre drinks. Get over yourself and let in normal people.

Say goodbye to my business, jerks.

(I should clarify that the bartenders are great guys.. it's just the management and bouncers that are terrible.)

A great spot for happy hour on a sunny day. We've been bringing our baby here since her first weeks of life. The Irish waitresses (shout out to Olive! You're awesome!) told me that Guinness is great for nursing mamas -- which I happily believed after 9 months without booze. (Baby also slept 7 hours straight for the first time ever, after I drank a stiff vodka tonic here... coincidence? Of course.)

Anyway the outdoor seating is great for families and the food is solidly good (love the meat pies, onion rings, and fish and chips), and a total steal at happy hour prices. Great beer selection as well. Cheers!

I had to write this review because someone who reviewed this place and wanted their Guinness ice cold clearly does not know how to drink Guinness.  Guinness is not supposed to be ice cold people.  It's a hearty, filling, smooth and silky drink.  It wasn't until the 90's that someone started serving it cold and ruined it!  The Guinness here is poured perfectly and I've never had a bad pint!
I love the Irish breakfast but I agree with everyone else that table service is slow and it really is just bar food.  I go back and go back for the breakfast but stay away during the music or on St. Patty's day.

I couldn't afford a trip to Ireland, so I decided to come here instead. I was meeting a date, and made sure I was decked out in all green, green heels, bright neon colored tights, a glittery dark green mini dress and the only green hat I own, it was an A's hat, and I am a Giants fan so it was painful to wear, but I sucked it up in the name of the Irish!

What a major dissapointment! No leprechauns, lucky charms or shamrocks. No one else was even in proper Irish attire! It was just me, and I sure looked like an idiot. No wonder my date never called me back : /

Still, however un-Irish, I found this hole in the wall pub to be quite homey and inviting. It was dark just the way I like it, so I could easily hide amidst the crowd and people watch as if I was invisible. There is a large bar area with a good selection of beers, perfect way to fuel my alcholism. And there is plenty of seating outside of the bar area, lots of tables and chairs to stumble into after those first few drinks. The music was pretty good as well, and the crowd was decent.

I might be too embarrased to show my face here ever again, but you should definately check it out! And don't bring a date, they'll be plenty of just slightly above mediocre-looking guys to check out (and that's pretty decent for Mountain View).

Now ... me want some lucky charms!

to clarify, this is not an irish pub.

the happy hour prices may draw you in, but good luck getting served.  one of the few places in my life i have had to just walk out of in disgust.  no less than 5 of us waited patiently at the bar for over 15 minutes to be served before just leaving.

to be clear, there were more bartenders and wait staff than customers.  we were all sitting at the bar for about ten minutes, finally a new person on the shift asked if we had been helped, we said no, and she started socializing with the other staff, 5 minutes later we just walked out.  no thank you.

Best spot in Mtn. View in my opinion.  Pretty chill place, awesome when there's a game on!  This is just my kind of spot, kinda like Cheers...eventually everyone will know your name.  I was just in there on Tuesday evening and Jill, a bartender, is awesome.  She is super fun to chat with and she will keep your beer full.  You must eat the potato skins, the best I've had.  Awesome spot, awesome people.

First off, the food here is not worthwhile. What do you really expect at a sports bar? Over the several bazillion times here, I've tried the fries, calamari, salad, and breakfast. Nothing too great.

So why the 4 stars? It's a pretty fun sports bar (and I don't even really like sports). The bartenders are friendly and laid back, the drinks are cheap, and there's always a pleasant crowd. This is evidenced from Sunday football to a few soccer games I've seen there. Even if you're not into sports, this is a fun place to just kick back and get a drink. I will advise you though, on Friday/Saturday, this place turns into some sort of club and it is a hot mess (which I love). This may be bias but I wanted to point out that its a no frills establishment, so there's no point in writing a hypercritical review. Go here, drink, and be merry.

PS- I've never had an issue with service here, but maybe it's just easier to saddle up at the bar then to get a table?

St. Stephen's Green makes for a pretty decent sports bar.  There are tv's and projectors at practically every corner, so you don't have to worry about getting a 'bad view'- and the drinks are CHEAP.  A pint of Stella set me back $3.50, and for a Friday night, I don't think that's terrible at all.

My problem is with the service.  The ladies at the bar are cool, and they are super efficient at what they do- but once you sit down, that's another beast entirely.  We finished work and went here to catch a Sharks game- grabbed a couple of tables- and was met with the MEANEST woman with the dourest face.  She never cracked a smile, spoke only in a brusque manner, and she never really checked up on us after our order.  And the food took FOREVER.  I mean, how does it take twenty minutes for a plate of FRIES to get served out- I will never understand.

To the lady waitress, a smile will net you a ton more tips than that sour service you've been doling out.

Protip: come here for the drinks, not the food.

Just based on one night here last Friday, I will not be coming back. The music is wayyyyyy too loud for any normal bar. I had to scream the entire night and starting out your weekend with a raspy voice is a no-go. Loud music is for clubbing. I go to bars to hang out with friends and talk, not to scream over clubbing music. There were people dancing on the small dance floor, so I'm sure they enjoyed the vibrating bass. But if you're the type of person who likes to catch up with pals over a drink, this is not the place. The beers are priced fairly, though. And they do have a good selection. It just felt more like a college frat party than like a chill place to grab a hang out.

I've only been here for monday and sunday football games but they are a great sports bar, the best we've found in the area.
Yes the service is a tad slow but if you watching a game it doesn't matter.
The buffalo wings are the best we've had since leaving New York.
It seems as though they are on top of their game when they are busiest (Sundays (during football season))
Not an amazing beer selection but much better than just coors and bud...they have Lagunitas, Sierra Nevada, Anchor Steam, Guinness...
Happy Hour is great most items are 40-50% off.
All-in-all a great sports bar to watch the game.

Went here a couple weeks ago with some friends on a Friday to get a drink and hang out.  Music selection was pretty terrible, and the drinks were even worse.  My lemon drop was messily made, and it seemed all the sugar went to coating the outside of my cup instead of being mixed with the drink and put on the rim.  My friends didn't like their drinks either.  Needless to say, we left rather quickly.

Food was run-of-the-mill bar food. I've had better, I've had worse. Only saving grace of this place were the TVs. Had a great line of sight to the projection screen and one other TV. The issue? The service is terrible. Obnoxiously so. Felt like the waitress was avoiding us even though we only wanted her to correct the bill (they charged us less than what our actual bill was). Tried getting another waitresses attention and she snapped at us, "hold on, I'm busy okay? I'll be back," of course she never came back. When we finally got our waitresses' attention, she didn't even thank us. She just said 'oh' and left to get the correct bill. Should've just signed the bill and have it come out of her paycheck.

    One sentence Yelp review:

You know it's an authentic Irish Pub, because the service and food is every bit what you would get in Dublin.

Sorry if the sarcasm isn't obvious. The service here is terrible. I've never been served in a timely fashion here, nor have I ever been served in a way that made me think I was in a restaurant in the United States.

As I sit here, I've had to wait fifteen minutes for the waitress to take my order -- I had to flag her down to give it. The restaurant isn't busy, it's a sleepy Tuesday night, they just fundamentally don't get what good customer service is.

Sorry to start so negatively, but I've lived here for seven years now, and it just doesn't do waiting or service well.

Back to the positives: Mountain View, particularly downtown Mountain View, has very few relaxing places to just sit around and sip a beer.

In theory, Stephen's Green is an ideal candidate for this: It has lots of dark wood, dim interior, and decent beers on tap.

Unfortunately, as the area around them has changed, so have they. The focus is on loud, blaring music (they have a dance floor now?), or lots and lots of sports on TV. If that's your thing: terrible music, or watching sports while you drink (which I know is a thing for some people) then maybe it's for you.

Me, I tend to come two or three times a year when I get a craving for pub food. Most of their stuff is pretty greasy and terrible (decent burgers, I guess?), though I like their chicken strips and fries when I'm craving it.

So, that's the place in a nutshell: Expect mediocre-awful service, mediocre food (but food of a given style), decent-good beer, and optionally loud music and/or sports.

And I still don't have anywhere to just go and have a beer in peace.

I've had a complicated a relationship with St. Stephen's Green, and I keep coming back because it forever had me at.. 2 happy hours (sigh). Yes that's great and all, but just remember, it doesn't start a minute early.

To put it simply, the food is pretty good. It takes for-eh-ver, but I feel it's well worth it. Absolutely delicious chicken curry, Guiness steak pie, and fish & chips. But I feel like the waitresses hate being there, and the bartender is the only one having fun. Especially this one time I arrived with a party of 8 just at the cusp of 5 o'clock. We seated ourselves and waited a while before one of the waitresses must've accidentally made eye contact with one of the people in our party. She asked if we were ready to order, so we asked to start with a round of waters while we looked over the menu. She then asks, "Are you all waiting for happy hour?" Ignorantly we replied yes, and she turns around, walks away, never to be seen again. Hahaha I probably would have done the same thing myself, but we ordered a crap load and c'mon we would've tipped you the amount of the check at non-HH price if you weren't such a beezy. Oh well, win some, lose some.

The food and the drinks are always great though. They have a nice selection on draft, featuring my good pals, Newcastle, Stella and Blue as well as some handsome looking bottles. Plenty of TV's and it's dimly lit, so if you have an ugly date that you don't care to look at until after you've tossed back a few, then enjoy the tube and drink up. It gets better.

St Stephen is promising candidate in my quest to find the perfect Irish pub. There was so much energy and general liveliness! Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of being overly crowded and underly staffed.

My party came just in time to catch the end of happy hour, and boy were we glad. This place probably has the best happy hour menu I've seen! In addition the standard appetizers, they offer 40-50% on selected entrees. We started of with Guinness (of course!), potato skins, buffalo wings, and fish and chips. The Guinness was disappointing, not ice cold nor was the mug chilled. Both the wings and skins were fairly standard nothing to brag about, but the fish and chips though were amazing!

All in all, good happy hour deal, slow service, warm beer. My quest for an Irish pub continues.

The first thing I noticed upon stumbling into this bar is that "St Stephen's Green" is painted BLUE.  Did the Lad not get da paint memo?  I reckon not!

Then you walk in and it's totally reminescent of a typical bar in Ireland.  By that I mean oak floors and furniture.  The patrons doesn't help either.  At least in Ireland you'll run into big breasted Irish girls that have booming bodies.  Tonight it's another sword fight.  Patrons of the xy-chromosome variety only.  No bueno.

We sit down at a table and I order a Corona cuz that's what you do when you're in a Irish pub.  An order of fries to help knock the "Cerveza Mas Fina" down.  Again, no bueno.  The fries are the same kind you get at Red Robin, the steak kind, but you don't get the seasoned salt so the fries we had here were almost tasteless.  As it gets later, they start removing some of the tables and chairs that are parked on the 10' x 10" dance floor, but putting lipstick on a pig is still a pig.

I never tried the food here, so my review is based on environment and drinks. This is one of the slower joints at night on Castro St. The dance floor is super tiny and the drinks are expensive. My friends and I usually stop by here before heading into Zen or Molly MaGees, which is on the same street. There are no entrance fee and it's a quick and easy way to get buzz and sit down for a bit.

Besides the expensive drinks and tiny dance floor, it's a pretty laid back bar. Music at night is usual hiphop with oldschool mixes.

Nice TV set up. Service outside sucks. Service inside is OK.
Need to listen to drink orders. A black russian does not have coke. A mistake I can overlook the first time. Then when I start ordering Vodka and Kahlua and specify no coke, and I still get coke, its obvious they don't know what they're doing (or just don't care about their customers).

I wish I enjoyed this bar more, but when you order 3-4 of the same drinks and you have to send everyone back because they can't make a proper black russian, its a little frustrating.

A large group of us came here Thursday afternoon around 3 or 4 to watch a game. I guess this is a slow time because there were only about 3 or 4 other tables throughout the entire restaurant.

We arrived late and I was parched so I flagged down the waitress to order a beer & water of course. She told me to wait a minute since she was bringing out our tables food. I was a bit to eager so I headed to the bar to get my own drink.....little did I know our server was the food runner and bartender TOO! I sat back down and waited for her to take my order.

She was very nice and let me and my BF split our check from the rest of the table. We ordered a SC hefenweisen, Stella and a sirloin burger with blue cheese. We also shared a few potatoes wedges, fries and wings which were all delicious.

After we paid we went out front on the large outdoor patio. It was beautiful out and I heard that they have NO CORKAGE! I will have to come back and try this place out for dinner. Looks like a better dinner spot.

My recommendation: Go for dinner. Service isn't much during the day. Looks like they have some good Shepard's pie too!

    Highlights:

    1. Awesome happy hour deals - all tap beers and appetizers are as much as 50% off...nice.
    2. Good, vibrant office crowd always makes it interesting.
    3. Friendly staff/bartenders - it's crazyily busy but they keep their smile on.

    Not-So-highlights:

    1. Why can't bar food be better?  St. Stephen Green is just another of those where it proves that bar food is just bar food.
    2. I wish that the lighting was just a tad brighter...

Otherwise, no complaints, perfectly decent joint for a pint and a nibble.

I'd like to call this fine establishment my "Home Away From Work." Throughout my 5-year employment tenure in downtown Mountain View, I have gone here from time to time to enjoy a drink or two...or three or more. More recently though, it seems I've visited this place almost every week...not sure who or what to give credit to for that...I'm not an alcoholic, dammit. :) What keeps me coming back is, quite frankly, the fact that every other drinking establishment in downtown Mountain View sucks! St. Stephen's Green wins by default. Agreed? Agreed! Huzzah! Let's drink to that! Irish Car Bombs for everyone!

They have a good selection of draft beers that suits everyone's palates. Among my favorites are Stella, Fat Tire, and Blue Moon. If they had Hoegaarden on tap, I'd be coming here every single day. That's "real talk" for you. If you work at or manage St. Stephen's Green and are reading this review, please add Hoegaarden on tap. You'll have a customer (that would be me) for life! I'm relatively young too, so I have about 20 years or so until my liver taps out. Just sayin'.

The Shepherds Pie here is definitely worth trying. It's probably one of the best I've ever eaten. But who am I to tell you that and it's not like I'm a "Shepherds Pie Connoisseur" or anything. Just take my word for it though. I promise it won't give you the runs, if that helps at all. :)

I can't and refuse to give this place 5 stars though. Why? Because of what they say about their "night life" on their website:

"Join us on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night for one of the best clubbing experiences in Silicon Valley."

*Hides face behind hand* Oh, lord. They should not have that displayed on their website. That statement is so far from the truth. They might as well state something like "Join us every Saturday night where singing sensation Rebecca Black tears the house down with her electrifying performances!" You, you, you, so excited? No, Rebecca Black does not come here every Saturday night...I was just trying to prove a point.

To recap: Come here to drink, eat, socialize, and watch a sporting event or two. I mean, where else is there to go in downtown Mountain View? #truth

I'm really torn on how to rate this place... so I'll break it down as follows.

    Overall vibe - 5 stars
    Food - 5 stars
    Service - 4 stars
    Food wait - 1 star

Basically, I love going to pubs because of my Scottish background... I love HP sauce, fish and chips, vinegar on my fries, and a cold one.  This place has really great food, but be prepared to wait forever.

I rarely come here for lunch anymore because you have to go expecting to be out on an hour lunch break at least.... In fact, I think last time I went here I was on a 1.4 hour lunch break.

I like to say, "My food is quality, and they are putting effort into making it awesome." - but ... could you speed it up just a tad?  If the food came out quicker... I'd be coming here for lunch wayyyy more often.

Anyways... aside from that... I really enjoy this place whether it's at lunch or late at night grabbin some beers.  Cool seen... nice mix of people, and the bartenders and servers are super nice.

FYI - If you happen to go here after work... beware of a particular seat at the bar.  There is a woman who sits in the same seat at the bar every day at around 5:45pm.  If you are sitting in her seat... she will literally shake your chair and make you feel awkward.  So... steer clear.

I'm always looking for new places to hang out... After trying many of the bars on Castro, i found Stephens Green, which is my new favorite place in mt view. I came in last tuesday night and was greeted by the cheerful female bartender, dont recall her name, but i think it was Jillian or something along those lines, not only was she friendly but she made good drinks, not watery like it happens next door sometimes.  The selection of beer on tap is great!  Jillian,  was very attentive and our group had a great experience. We'll definitely be back!

I heard saturday nights is fun as well, i will have to check it out..

I'm being a bit lenient by awarding this place 5 stars, because I have had better.  That, however, was in the old country.  Here in the great U.S. of A., we have to settle for what we can get.  So by American standards, this is a fabulous Irish pub.  Even my hella Irish dad comes here on occasion.

If you're more into the pub feel than the nightlife/sportsbar feel, come around lunch time.  The place is pretty empty and you can enjoy whatever is on TV and a beer with some peace and quiet.

I stopped in for lunch with my mom because she claimed this place had "the greatest veggie burger."  So, I ordered the garden burger which consisted of a lovely veggie patty, sauteed mushrooms, sauteed peppers and onions with swiss cheese.  Of course it was served with a glorious heap of french fries (or chips as we call them) that could rival those from back home.

Cool place to check out if you want to experience an Irish pub without actually having to go all the way to Ireland.

Not too many options for bars in Mountain View, so I guess that is how they get away with charging $6.25 for a friggin beer.

    It's alright.

Call me cheap and unreasonable but why would anyone charge cover to get in here???!!!

I understand that it was St. Patty's Day and Dt Mtv is usually invaded by surrounding companies looking for a good time but wow! Good job charging me $10 to get in and serving me a $10 tab on overly drenched Caesar salad.

There is nothing special about this place and I would have rather gone to Mollys two doors down.

They have happy hours from 5:00-630PM from Monday-Fridays and they have a bunch of draft beers that range from $2-$3.50 and 40-50% off "many" menu items.

$2 for Blue Moon is quite the deal, so plus stars for that. And there is a wide selection of beers for their happy hour special (but they don't have exact happy hour prices listed, you just have to ask).

Try to get there early if you can because it will be packed by 6PM. The service is mediocre and the waitresses seem to pay more attention to the larger groups.

But don't ever order the happy hour salads, it's pretty gross and looks super unappealing; everything else I'd say is pretty good, especially the burgers.

If you're ever in Castro and in time for happy hour, hit this place up if you cannot find any other.

Jesus tap-dancing Christ, you can't throw a stone without hitting an Irish bar in South Bay. At this point, I'm starting to mix the names up.

"Molly McGees? I thought this was Fibbar McGees."
"No, wait...don't you mean Lilly Mac's?"
"No, that was from the other night, we went there for UFC."
"Wait, when did we go to St. Stephen's? Oh yeah, that one time..."

Anyways, enough ranting. Onto the review, shall we?

As you might have guessed from my intro, St Stephen's Green is good enough to not let you down if you're looking for lunch or a Guinness, but not distinguishable enough to merit any special mention.

The food? Forgettable but decent. My chicken ceasar wrap was fresh, and the portion sizes were good. The fries? Larger cuts than I prefer but still not bad w/the right amount of salt.

Service? A little on the slow end but it was lunchtime so there weren't too many folks on staff. Nice enough folks, too (the waiter made a "Chappelle's Show" reference when delivering a Samuel Adams.)

So, in closing, this place is good enough if you're in the neighborhood (hence three stars), but not worth driving to if there's an Irish pub closer to you.

    Review for happy hour only:

I ordered the onion rings, and a cup of potato & leek soup. The soup was okay. It definitely had potatoes, but there were pieces of leek in it, nor can I taste any. It was also too creamy for my liking (think of chowder-like creaminess). The good thing was that it was only $1.25! The onions rings were better. it was fried to a golden brown and onions were cooked just right. It is normally $7, but for HH it's 40% off = $4.20. Not bad for a decent sized basket. I shared some with my friends and I was still pretty full from all that.

I also ordered a drink off the 'special drinks' menu because the waitress said anything with Stoli was only $4. When the bill came, the receipt read $7. I asked our waitress about it and she said, "Oh, I should have been clear about it. The HH doesn't include the 'Special Drinks.'" Thanks for letting me know after the fact! Plus she wasn't friendly.  Not rude, but not friendly.

Love the music on Saturday nights over at this place.  They have some good drinks during happy hour at good prices and some bar food as well.  It's a pretty mellow place as people hang out and chill with their friends at tables.

A decent bar / pub located in downtown Mountain View. Good selection of beer on tap. Ample seating area and is good for just hanging out with friends while having a drink.

Molly Magee's next door is probably more lively if you're looking for a pick-up scene.
