Very nice!

Came down here for a wedding.  The room was spotless.  Huge bed, with lots and lots of comfy pillows.  Adequate towels.  The only draw back is now they had a room coffee pot that delivers just one cup.  (that is not cool.  The three cup ones' were border-line ludicriss but one cup)   Ok anyway.....

The wedding reception was held here:

1-remarkable bacon wrapped scallops....simply remarkable.  I should have only eaten them all night.

2- bacon wrapped asparagus topped with cream cheese.   Also remarkable.  Between those two, could have had quite a meal

The actual meal:  Salad was very good, with an excellant balsamic vinegarett with sesame seeds in it....

The meal:  ok, this is one of the problems  I had the beef sirloin.  Not really their best meal.  Tasted a bit gamey.

The only other bad thing, ok Wedding bar.  I had 6 or 7 vodka tonics.  No buzz.  (no buzz =not alot of booze).

Oh, the other thing.  (and this should have gone first, but it's Monday and I didn't want to retype everything)  Someone there broke a glass.  no one from Marriott came to clean it up.  We shoved it towards the side of the dance floor.  One of the guests, (without her high heels) cut her foot.  The manager appeared to be not to happy to have to bring over ice and a bandage.  (hmmm.....?)

(that's why this really nice place didn't get the full 5 stars)

This is actually now the St. Louis Union Station Marriott.  We stayed here with a bunch of other wedding guests for two nights.  Its in an old train station that has been converted into a mall and the hotel lobby is incredible.  Its a fantastic structure and has been really well restored.  The hotel part itself is nothing special - kind of dingy truth be told, and the rooms are pretty small.  Ours overlooked the courtyard so it was pretty darke in there.  The hotel bar is really cool and has comfy seats and bar food.  We actually brought our takeout and ate it there with some beer from the bar.

The pool is really small and was crawling with rugrats when I was
there.  Definitely not a good place to lay out.

This area is kind of strange - there's the mall attached which has a food court, but other than that there's really nothing in the immediate neighborhood.  Downtown is a good 8-10 blocks away (not that there's really a whole lot there either) and the parks that run along Market street are a little sketchy at night. The front desk people were mildly helpful but I couldn't help but notice the concierge looked the other way when anyone walked up to her little booth.   But its a really affordable stay and very convenient to the metro train which goes right to the airport.

GREAT SERVICE!

I named my price through Priceline for a Fri. night. Then days later did the same for a Saturday night due to family stuff.

I called on Thursday before arriving and they put me in the same room for both nights and gave me the requested king bed. They were happy to do so, and didn't act like it was a problem at all.

Pros!
-The service was awesome!
-The bed is really comfy!
-The water pressure was great.
-A/C worked

^^^What more do you need???
I am not looking for a nice TV in a hotel room. I travel to see the sights not my room. I didn't care or notice the art or walls either.

Cons!
-A little far from downtown. But there is a train VERY close to get you to Busch Stadium or the touristy downtown. Buy a daypass, it's a good deal.

The non-see through shade did not close all the way as usual. So the room was light at 6am. WHY ARE ALL HOTELS LIKE THIS?

PLEASE READ THIS REVIEW BEFORE CHOOSING THIS HOTEL.

To clrify, I need to create a new post for the downtown riverfront location as this is where we stayed.

We just got engaged and decided to visit my hometown to celebrate.

We don't have a ton of money to spend and were not expecting anymore than we'd paid for.  In my line of work, I have stayed in literally hundreds of hotel rooms and this was the second worst hotel experience I have ever had.  The worst was in Metarie, LA; the TV had a dipstick from a '56 Chevy as an antenna, roaches, and we camped in a tent on top of the bed.

The Staff at the Hyatt was very helpful and polite; no complaints there.

The problem was the cleanliness of the room.  When we walked in, we noticed hair all over the bathroom that had been left by the previous owner.  A couple of hours later, we noticed the same hair was all over the towels and tub.  I went ahead and grabbed some new towels from the cart and put our dirty ones in the dirty linen bag.  We folded the bed down to take a nap and saw dried blood on one of the pillowcases and on the lampshade.  Later, when I went to take a shower, the new towel had a big bloodstain on it as well.  Later I found what I think may have been a bedbug in the sheets.

At that point, I called the Manager and complained.  She was very understanding and offered us a refund in the amount of $100 on room service and movies.  As we were sick, I declined, and instead she authorized a refund on our stay.  This was very helpful and generous, and I hope the problem will not occur again with another guest.  I plan to write to Corporate and alert them as to the issue.

Bottom line, its not at all as nice a place as the Net makes it look.  These days you just can't be too careful, especially when blood is so dangerous to be exposed to.

I cannot think of a single problem with this hotel.  I was skeptical about the place, since I'm familiar with Union Station and figured the proximity to the mall might be annoying, but the convenience proved valuable.  After all, I didn't have to travel far to get cash at the ATM, espresso and a manicure.  At first, we were a bit confused by the layout of the restaurants, gates, and elevators, but navigating our way around became familiar quickly.  We used the $14 per day self-parking, which came without hassle and served us well.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful.  All questions were answered easily and aptly.  Our 6th floor room was clean, comfy and modernly decorated.  The king-size bed was the best part of our stay - so perfectly firm and comfortable, I wanted to take it home with me!  It came complete with a throw blanket, 4 throw pillows and 6 bed pillows.

The continental breakfast was outstanding, although only the cold items on the breakfast buffet were complimentary.  The hot items were too tempting to pass up, though: french toast, cheese blintzes, salmon quiche, bacon, sausage, eggs...whew!  So we opted for the full buffet and only had to pay an extra $10-15 on our bill for the added hot stuff.  I must say, it was well worth it!  The waitstaff went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed our breakfasts and even comped our last breakfast for no apparent reason!  We didn't ask questions, just thanked them incredulously when the host said he had "taken care of" our breakfast bill.  Sweet!

The computers in the reception room were great to use for looking up local info (we needed theater times for the new Indiana Jones flick) and the "FastBoard" console at the front desk was awesome for printing our boarding passes.  In addition to the hotel's convenient location off of I-64, we had a valet hail a cab for us out front in about 5 seconds flat...wow, that's service!  We truly wanted for nothing during our stay here and we'll be sure to come again.

This review is a bit overdue, but I came here last year for a business trip. It was awful! They overbooked my room, and wound up sending me to another hotel for lodging. My compensation for the inconvenience? An invitation to attend breakfast for free. I had to be at work at 8 am, and was behind by 2 hours to boot. Needless to say, I was uninterested in waking up at the crack of dawn to eat, and I was miffed by the entire experience.

I hope things have picked up since they completed renovation. But I'm certainly hesitant about staying here again.

Sorry I was not particularly impressed with this place.  We booked it on Hotwire (which up until this point hadn't really let me down).  The exterior looked a bit too Magic Kingdom to be a Hyatt to me... and the interior.. sort of a train station meets a mall, with a hotel in between just felt inhospitable.

The room itself wasn't really up to what I am familiar with the Hyatt name.. very traditional in style.  There was no in room fridge, the TV was super dated, and there was a charge for the internet (which isn't unusual for Hyatt, but given the circumstances I think a free connection seems reasonable).  Oh and the bottle of water in the room that was $4?  Come on!

Paper thin walls didn't do much to muffle the noise and wall pounding going on from the unsupervised kids in the room next to us after midnight.  Not the direct fault of the hotel, but it still factored in to how much I enjoyed staying at the place.

I have no issues with the staff... didn't see much of them, and the bed was at least comfortable.  Granted hotels in general scream tourism, but this place was just a little too touristy for me.

I see the average rating as I write this is 3 1/2 stars.  Dammit, I can't decide if I would give this place 3 or 4 stars!!  Let me go over the pros and cons of the Hyatt and see what we come up with....

Pros:

-  Location is wonderful....the train station here has restaurants and shops to get souveniers from.  It's a very unique setup, how the hotel is actually attached to this mini-mall type thing.
-  It's close enough to downtown that it isn't a headache going there if you want to.

Cons:

-  The design can be confusing at first.  We actually had to ask for directions on how to get to our room.  No, we're not stupid.  It's really that convoluted. :P
-  The room we had and the hallways seemed REALLY dated.  Like 1970s dated.  The room itself wasn't very pretty either.  Maybe it was because we stayed in the basement that it felt like a dungeon.  Either way, it didn't feel "4 star" to me.

OK...I've made my call...3 stars.  Sorry, Hyatt.

Comfy beds, nice as all heck staff, and A/C as cold as cold can be.

Coffee maker in the room was crap- one of those one cup at a time dealies with a severe lack of sugars and no mugs.  Plus they failed to replace the crap coffee after we used it once.  Ditto for the bottles of water.  And towels.  They really need to give more.
But all these things were replaced with one call to the front desk.  And quickly, with a smile.  So can't fault them.

Price? I have no idea, my job paid.
Food? Skip it and go out.
Location?  Awesome- 4 feet from the Metro, and plentiful cabs outside. And the best doorman ever to hail them for you. I loved him. Of course, I forgot his name.

I'd stay here again.

This turn of the century era train station has been converted into a hotel.  The lobby architecture is pretty cool.  The attached mall is ok as malls go.  Very important tip -- the rooms on the front half of the hotel are better than the rooms in the new section overlooking the mall.  Front side rooms have nice high ceilings and better views.  I suggest the Regency Club level -- for a few extra bucks you can drink coffee, eat scones or fresh fruit and yogurt in am or graze on hors d' oeuvres in afternoon.  I also surfed on the complimentary Mac in the Regency club lounge.

Probably the best thing was a big comfortable bed with piles of down pillows -- I love that.

Haters, step aside.  This place has mermen across the street. It looks like a Lancelot castle. And the main ballroom/bar is some of the best hotel decor in the entire United States.

Located right at the Union Station Metro stop (walking distance to all of downtown but metro-able too), this place was a good deal on the weekend.  Prices spike during the week when business-peeps fly in and their companies are paying the bill.  The room was clean, the bed was super comfy with TONS of pillows (one sure way to my heart).  The bathroom was large with a tub and too many white towels for two people.  Subtracted one star cause the coffee machine in our room sucked and the door was thin so you could hear people/children in the hall at WAY too early in the morning.  The main lobby is really a cool place tho.  Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

Wow!  I will definitely be back to this hotel.  The first floor of this hotel serves at grand central station for the town of St Louis.  The first two floors are filled with mall shops (and a few smaller local shops) that are sure to fill your homesick heart with that lovely shopping goodness.  There is a fudgery on the first floor that always attracts a lively crowd and a decent sized food court on the 2nd floor (try the cheesesteak).  The hotel itself is a little older, but full of luxury ammenities.  The king sized bed was nice and comfy, but the air conditioning, even on the lowest setting, was quite loud.  The view from my room looked out into the courtyard of the mall underneath which was pretty neat.  There is a small lake outside the mall with paddleboats and the Hard Rock cafe is within very close walking distance.
