Good place for lunch and they have daily specials.  Saturday is half off burgers and makes it a great deal.  A few big screen TVs if you want to watch the game.  It does get busy though, but food comes out fairly quick.  The beer is a bit pricey as the pitchers are smaller than usual.  The food is a little bit greasy though, but still a good local eat.

I'd dine again, but not something I could eat every week.

The food here is great and they have a bunch of happy hour specials all different days of the week. I believe Thursdays is $3.99 pitcher of domestic beer day, Wed is 1/2 off burgers or something of the sorts. But the BBQ chicken, burgers, appetizers are all great.

Plus inside they have a few big screen TVs to watch the big games on. This place does get real busy and crowded and can cause for a long wait, however it is well worth it.

Burger joint with beer, plenty of men (basically a sausage fest), lots of food, trash everywhere and barely enough seats to sit.

Aside from their great specials on any given night, this place was definitely disappointing. With an average of 4 stars for as many reviews as they had, I would think that I would have enjoyed the food better.

Fries- crunchy and blah, we didn't even eat 1/3 of the basket with three of us (2 big men and myself)

Bf's cheeseburger looked dry and boring. Just cheese and some average/wilted lettuce and tomato, bread was plain, dense, not toasted or grilled!

Chicken sandwich with mushrooms- my mushrooms were sauteed but surprisingly dry, chicken plain, no flavor, sour cream on the side (good thing I asked for it on the side, because it was not tasty), bread was dense and plain. Good thing it was half off. I can't believe I wish I went to Red Robin or Chili's instead, even McDonald's has a better chicken sandwich in my experience (the recent upgraded version of course).

Chicken wings were actually decent. Highlight of my meal but I only got to eat 2 wings.. boohoo

I can't believe this place gets voted for best burger in the Metro. Well, I always suspected that those things are rigged anyways.... My conspiracy theory will remain that until someone can dispell that for me.

BOO on you St. John's.

My hubby took me here for a late lunch which was perfect since I was told it gets crazy crowded during peak hours (12-1). A favorite lunch joint among the norcal audi peeps and I can see the big dealio. Nice outdoor patio seating area. Pretty spacious indoor seating as well. Parking's a little tight, I think. And oh yeah, good food and flat screens everywhere!

I was bummed that they ran out of the veggie burger but was quite blown away with my alternative order--turkey burger. Maybe it was the sauce or mushrooms or both? But it was soo gooood! We shared a basket of yummy fries which was a LOT. Free refill on the sodas. Fast service. Coolio!

My friend invited my to happy hour with her and some of her coworkers last Thursday afternoon.  I got there around 5:45 and was fearful that there wouldn't be any parking spaces; but was proven wrong with an abundance of parking.

The steak quesadilla that I ordered was HUGE, and took up a full plate and came with three larger scoops of guacamole and sour cream, and a small cup of salsa, as well.  It was ok, and honestly not all that memorable.

This would have been a 4-star review, but lost one due to something that I saw in line.  It's nothing to do with the restaurant, per se, but the guy that was in front of me in line.

So, to the left of the registers and the partition between the line and bar area, there was a table that had a large bowl of vegetables with celery, carrots, and mushrooms; a bowl of what was tortilla chips, and something else.   The guy in front of me, started picking up the vegetables with his bare hands, and dipping into the sauce (thankfully, not double dipping!).  He totally disregarded that there were a pair of tongs right in the bowl, and plates for that matter, but would just grab the veggies.  Nasty.  Gross.  Icky.  As we progressed to the register, he made his way with the chips, and did the same thing.

So, if you go to the happy hour there, and see the veggies and other stuff that they have for free, be careful.  You never know whose hands may have been in there!

Well, I sure as hell would hope that my $10+ burger would taste good.  I don't get the hype...it was just a burger....I even got the kobe beef one, hoping that it would be extra delicious....nah....it was just a burger!

One suggestion I have for them is that they invest is better quality buns....it tasted like those cheapo buns you can get from the dollar store or something...also it kept on sticking to my fingers.....gross, I know.

I think it's whack that they don;t include fries, potato salad or soemthing like that with the burgers.  They give you a crappy tiny bag of Lay's potato chips (maybe like 5 chips in the bag).  I ended up throwing it away unopened.

The line gets SUPER long during lunch time.  All the high techs seem to like to have lunch here.....there is an outdoor seating area which seems nice.

I think it's great how they have nightly specials, like 1/2 price burgers or cheesesteaks, etc. on certain days.  I, however, would rather go elsewhere than hang around in this area after work.

Because I'm trying to eat healthier...I won't be going back to this place any time soon.  If I do, i'd probably go during their specials hours cause the burger was just not worth $10+....for real!

I use to go to St. John's a lot years ago, but due to a job relocation I have not been here in the last fours years.  I was surprise how much this place has changed.  Bad service, long wait time, cleanliness and quality of food seems very average.  Guess its now a turn and burn burger restaurant.  This place was always considered a bit expensive but it was one of the best place to get a burger back then. Classic case of great place back then and average place now.  Too bad,  this place could have aged to be one of the great burger places in the Bay Area.  NOW just very average.

St. John's has been the place that Kevin L. and I always fall back on when we can't decide where to have lunch.  It's always consistently good on the food, it's in a convenient and central location, and it never fails to satisfy hunger.

Of course, the best day to go would be on Tri-Tip Tuesdays, but there are also other daily specials that are worth going for, like the BBQ Chicken.

But today, we both went for burgers, with Kevin L. getting a jalapeno burger, and me getting the spicier Beg For Mercy Cheeseburger.

I have to say that any of the Beg For Mercy items on the menu are always very spicy.  I always wonder what they do to make it so spicy?  I am guessing there is probably some habanero in there, but definitely has a lot more kick than a jalapeno.

If you are extremely hungry, there's the 1lb. Big Daddy burger which I had once.  It took a lot to finish it, but I did it, and soon afterwards regretted that decision as the burger stayed with me for quite a while.

It's not a fancy place, but it's not a hole-in-the-wall either.  It has the look and feel of a pizza joint you would go to for the party after the soccer season was over when you were a kid, but definitely no pizza here.  It's all about meat, BBQ'd, and lots of it.

I went to St. Johns with friends on a Thursday evening for their happy hour. There is a different "happy hour"-type special every day of the week (not Sundays, I think they're closed), so we'll have to go back to try others.

I mowed down my delicious bleu cheese burger like there was no tomorrow. Yeah, I may have been a tad hungry, but mostly I didn't want to share with my boyfriend who was going to ask to try it at any moment. We got a basket of fries to share, but I thought they were cold and tasteless. My friends who had arrived about 30 mins earlier than us said their fries were really good, and hence, gone, so I couldn't try them.

I really want to go back to have another burger and try the fried zucchini. It looked so good that I almost asked the guys next to us to try theirs. And when I say asked, what I really mean is, I almost took the basket they left 1/3 full on the table when they left. St. Johns almost seems like the type of place where none of the other patrons would bat an eyelash if I did something that uncouth...

The go-to sportsbar in the area.  Can get crowded sometimes, especially when all the international folk (and wannabe international folk) come out for the soccer (or football, whatever you want to call it) games.

This a great place for friends to hang out to watch sports on TV. Burgers here are all great. They have nightly specials everyday for half off. You can't beat that with bat. They have a spacious patio area to hang out, eat, and drink. This place has been here for over 20 years and still going strong.

This is my favorite place to go for happy hour. We come here almost every Thursday: pitchers are $3.99. The food is also really good...for all the bad reviews you just dont know what to order! The garlic fries are amazing! Onion Rings are also good, the poppers are a little disappointing. Philly cheesesteaks are also really good, you can substitute chicken. If you like spicy things the Beg for Mercy burger is really good, IF you can handle it! It does get crowded here especially on nights with a sharks game or other important sports game. We come with sometimes 10 people and always find a table. That's how the environment is supposed to be though, and if you cant enjoy yourself because of everyone having a good time around you, you need to learn how to entertain yourself....

This is a lunch time sensation.  I suggest coming a little early or coming late to this place.  This place is pack during lunch time.  The food is greasy but deliciously good.  They have 'half off' specials, so pay attention to them.  Too bad they are not good during lunch time.

Parking can be a pain if you do not come early.  if you want a great tasting burger.  Drop on by.  You will not be disappointed.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to reveal my distaste for this establishment.  I have eaten at St. John's for over 15 years.  The burger deals were famous around local colleges and businesses.  In fact, my wife and I first learned she was pregnant when she could not tolerate the red meat in a burger she had there.  This, of course, was a reaction in her body due to the pregnancy.

Unfortunately, using that measure I would also be considered pregnant (medically impossible) after the last few visits to St. John's.  The service has been declining rapidly over the last several years and now the quality of the food has finally put me off.

I can deal with order takers who try to act superior and fling insults at you before you receive your food.  However, I at least expect to be rewarded with something decent to eat.  My last cheeseburger left me saying "Where's the beef?"  and the basket of fries came with enough "short and curly" hairs fried into the mix that it makes me gag just thinking of it.

As I said, this place was not only where I took family and friends but almost considered part of the family for a long time.  Now I would not recommend it to my worst enemy (he's the short guy behind the register with dark hair and an even darker attitude.)

Good food and they have some killer half off specials. Great place to go with a group and the sports teams, etc. do this a lot.

The burgers are pretty juicy... the Kobe beef burger seemed a bit smaller than all of the others.  I can take or leave their fries.

Outside dining's nice, but can get a bit cold. Good sports atmosphere here. About 200 Yelp reviewers can't be wrong.

I used to go to the St. Johns in Cupertino....way way back, in the early 90's.

Nice to see that the Cajun burger and Hickory burger are still alive and Kickin' !!

The cheesesteaks looked pretty filling, but I was having a half each of the two burgers, so I'll have to wait until next time for the Philly.

Great place to banter about sports and pack away a couple of burgers.

Good burgers, incredible display of the culture and the values of the valley. Go there at lunch, and enjoy this superb anthem to america

Good burgers and sandwiches and BBQ chicken... steep prices (except the daily specials)... and getting a small bag of chips with your burger instead of fries sucks.

The burgers are tasty.  There's a number of options for specialty burgers, including guacamole, teriyaki, spicy, mushroom, chili, cajun, and bacon.  I guess my recommendation would be the guacamole.  These are in the $7-9 range, which is pretty steep considering you only get a 1-ounce bag of plain Lay's potato chips with the burger.  The saving grace here is that Saturdays (noon to 9, I believe), burgers are half-price.  [Pro-tip: Saturdays, you can get two burgers for the same price as a burger and basket of fries.  Mmm, two burgers.]

There's Kobe beef burgers ($9.95), but I haven't tried these.  I doubt I could appreciate the difference.

The cheesesteaks are good but kind of bland.  There's again specialty varieties, including mushroom and cajun.  The regular cheesesteak is just beef, cheese, and grilled onions... but it really doesn't have much flavor.  Needs salt and pepper at the least.  Again, these are in the $8-9 range and come with chips.

The fries are pretty good ($3.95 for a large basket), but the garlic fries ($4.50 for a plate) are pretty disappointing.  If you've ever had the Pac Bell Park garlic fries... these are nothing like them.  Just a plate of fries with generous sprinkling of garlic powder, which looks like parmesan cheese.  No minced garlic.  The bacon cheese fries (which are topped with a dollop of sour cream) and fried zucchini are all right.

Our group of eight ordered four cheesesteaks, one burger, two chicken sandwiches, and a quesadilla... plus four sides.  It was a little too much food.

No waiter service, but the staff does bus the tables.

It's pretty loud, as sports bars usually are.  Great for watching sports (on the multiple flat screen TVs), not so great for dinner conversation.  It gets crowded during peak hours, but the line moves at a good pace.

There's indoor seating and outdoor patio seating.  Some sports memorabilia on the walls, which is a nice touch for this sort of eatery.

The food itself is a high 3 (close to 4 stars) for sure, but the prices bring the score back down to 3.

Wow.

After playing basketball with some friends, Arthur G. was talking about how he was hungry and then had an epiphany.  He was saying something about half priced cheesesteaks at some place called St. John's.  I didn't know what he was talking about.

After coming to this place, I'm thoroughly happy that he and Steve M. remembered that it was half-off cheesesteak nights.  We came in around 8:30 and the line was pretty sizeable.  I immediately liked the ambiance and atmosphere that St. John's had.

After a short 5 minute wait, our cheesesteaks and fries were ready.  It wasn't the best cheesesteak i've had, but for half-off it was delicious.

Can't wait to come back.

Very good food and I agree with previous reviews that they have "killer half off specials."  This is a great place to go to watch sporting events and have a beer.  The burgers are great and the fries are good.  THe onion rings can be very greasy at times.

Watch out during lunch --  the line can go out the door.

Been coming here the last few years and what you see is what you get.  Every night(Sun. closed) until closing is a special 50% off promo for food except for Thursdays which is cheap appetizers and banquet beer.  With them opening on Saturday until 9pm, it's a cheap place for group meals where the males attempt to eat two burgers each, onion rings, and a beer.  They have 7 beers on tap with 4 rotating on a monthly basis.  Last night, they had a variety of summer ales and ambers for the warmer weather.

This place does seem to appeal to the unhealthy eater but you can sub turkey/veggie for ground beef for burgers and chicken instead of beef on cheesesteaks.

Honestly, I can't imagine coming here for weekday lunch because I'll have to pay full price?  Oh the horror...!

One of Silicon Valley's default joints.  Reliable food, small portions on the onion rings, horrid parking availability during lunch.  Sports shows play in various corners of the interior, while engineers who are not into sports shout over the ESPN anchormen.

I have no beef about the beef at St. John's, but the first thought that comes to mind about the place is ketchup rather than the burgers.  I think that somehow speaks for itself.  Like I said, it's the default joint, it's not some place you go for a gourmet event.

A great place for burgers. My favorite are the Jalapeno burger, the Cajun burger, and the mushroom burger. Some days I eat two - they are that good. If you want healthy, go for the Jalapeno chicken burger, or stay home and bake tofu.

The interior is dingy and dark, and that gives it great atmosphere. The only thing missing is a pool table. If that's not your thing, they have a small patio area outside, somewhat noisy from road traffic during the day, but in the evening it can be quite nice. When it's cold out, they have patio heaters to keep you warm.

On many days or nights, they have half-off specials on some things. Check the listing here: http://www.stjohnsgril.... It's nice to get a superb burger for not much more than you pay at McDonald's or Burger King.

If you want "class" and nice hamburgers, go to Red Robin, which I also like. But for a different experience, if you want "style" and cheap, great hamburgers, come to St John's.

St. John's was pretty good in accommodating in my order.

We came in on Saturday to take part on their special - Half priced burgers.
I ordered the Bacon Swiss but sub with Pepper Jack cheese -no problem.
Garlic Fries - no parmesan, no problem.
Can I the take the order buzzer to the parking lot? Sure- no problem.

My experience with St. John's was very positive and their service was great.

One thing that I would like for them to serve is pickles with burgers.

Awesome happy hour specials - half-priced burgers on Fridays, half-priced appetizers on Fridays, cheap pitchers on Tuesday/Thursdays.  Happy hour is from like 4 to 9 - so even tech geeks that sit in front of their computers until after dark can enjoy the cheapness.

I just love this place because of the deals they have and the way everything tastes.  So far I have tried the following items and i thought all were great.

Big Daddy (3 Huge patties!)
Cajun Burger (Nicely seasoned and w/a lil kick)
Cheesesteak (Nice roll and meat)
Chili Burger (Ohhh soooo messy, but that's a good thing)
Garlic Fries (Huge portion...good luck trying to finish that)
Onion Rings (Perfectly breaded and seasoned) this is a must try!!
Steak quesadilla (it was simple and good)
jalapeno poppers (simple and good)

I did substitute groung turkey for the big daddy once and i found it dry, but that was my fault for trying to order something so lean.  Anyhow, good food, entertaining (cuz of all the TV's), good location w/patio, great deals and cheap meals for kids!

I saw Cindi N's ROTD of this place from yesterday.  I got burger envy.  I had to try the Big Daddy burger!  I mean, come on, look at that picture (http://www.yelp.com/us...) the burger is almost as big as her head!

Flash forward to today.  San Bruno, CA.  My customer wanted to go to Sports Basement Presidio.  He's from out of town.  I convinced him to go to the Sunnyvale store instead.  Newer you know.  More selection you know.  Oh *surprise* what do you know?  it just happens to be right across the street from St John's burgers!  Imagine that?

Three of us.  Three Big Daddy burgers.  Just water for me thanks, I'm focused, I'm psyched, I'm gonna finish my burger.

The burger comes.  I size it up.  Its a two hander.  You gotta nibble at it, too booku.  *vrooommmm* hear that?  That's the sound of the Bryan K. vaccuum cleaner.  My colleague says, wow you ate that in 9 minutes.  We go back and order a round of beers and garlic fries.

Post meal, what do I think?  Either I'm a pig or that girl Cindi N. has a small head!!!!

On the drive back we stop by Pho Saigon in San Mateo for smoothie pearl drinks.  I finish my taro drink in about 3 minutes.  My colleague says, damn Bryan you do everything fast.

Ummm yeah, don't tell girls that.

I wasn't too impressed when I ordered a Bacon Swiss burger the first time I was there for the UYE, but having gone a second time and ordering a Hickory burger instead, I'll definitely be back for more. Guaranteed food coma, cheap beer (depending what night you go but $4 for a pitcher? Wowow!), and widescreen tvs I'm not sure where you can go wrong.

Just don't sit outside on a cold day.

A buddy recomend this place to us a few weeks back.
We headed down there on a Wednesday night and the burgers were 1/2 off
The garlic fries are a must try
A pitcher of beer seemed to be a lot cheaper than what i had been paying at my local pizza plce
The only sad part is the burgers come with a wimpy bag of chips instead of fries
Other than that this place has its special bay area charm
its not fine dining but I liked it
Its above average for a burger joint

I came here for the first time for the UYE and loved my food, thankfully it was on a burger night!  Since then, I've been here at least 4 times!
Wed/Sat is 1/2 off hamburgers
Monday 1/2 off cheesesteaks
I love how their food specials end pretty late around 830- closing (depending on day).  Their drink specials end around 6pm (I think)  None the less, it makes a great happy hour joint.

My Guca-bacon burger was off the hook, the gucamole had a nice touch of spiciness to it and the bacon was on the crispy/barely chewy end and  of course yummy.

I also got the chance to try a pepper cheesesteak.  This, however, I felt was lacking.  I tried half of a philly style (with ChezWiz) and it was off as well.  For both, I felt that it was either too dry, and that the ingredients didn't blend together well.

My friend had ordered garlic fries.  The fries were a toss up, some were super stubbies, some regular length.  My friend didn't like the garlic powder, I thought it was cool, but wished that maybe they mixed it better so it was so visible and was more spread out.

Onion Rings: Cool, but not enough. (Can you ever have enough?)

Service: what service? get your own food when your pager goes off.  The bus guy is pretty cool, but lacking sometimes.

Ambiance: There's about 4 TVs, showing 2 different programs at least, usually the Sharks, WEC, or NBA.  What more can you ask for? well more seating that allows you to watch the TV's would help!

Overall, I like this place for their food speicals, TV's, ambiance, and their delicious 1/2 hamburgers!

This place is literally 5 minutes from my work so it's a great place to unwind after a hard day of long meetings and other monotonous work related tasks.

The first time I came was on a Monday and apparently cheesesteaks are 1/2 off from 4 to close (9pm I believe) so I decided to check out the special. I got a cajun cheesesteak and man was it tasty! Wash it down with an ice cold pitcher of beer that I split with my friends and I was more than satisfied. They seem to have a different special for every day of the week.

Parking is easy since it's in a complex with other stores. But if you don't like your boss or don't like being in places where you will probably be seen by co-workers and you work around here, I wouldn't recommend this place since the crowd after 5pm seems to be folks who just came directly from work.

My friend, she recommended this place as that's where she and the boys would go hang out after a hard match on the soccer field. We decided to check this place during for lunch and surprisingly it was moderately busy around 11:45.

The cheeseburger is juicy and mouth watering flavorful. The bar is stocked, and you can have a beer. Price is about what'd you expect. A little more than the In and Out burger, but food quite tasty and chocked full of calories.

During the summer time, there's an outdoor patio and a wall constructed between the place and the expressway. No problems hearing and talking to the person across from you.

I like this place well enough.  It's a good place to go with people, since it seems a lot of locals have been here, and know what to expect.

On burger night (currently Wednesdays), burgers are half off, which makes them quite a nice deal.  If you aren't partial to beef, you can get a turkey or veggie burger for the same price as the cow-based ones, so everyone's happy.

The burgers are pretty good, and well sized, but nothing spectacular.  I haven't really tried their other sandwiches, so I can't weigh in on them.

The fries (garlic and normal) are decent.  More often than not, the fries are so fucking small, you have to stick your whole hand in the basket to grab enough to put in your mouth, and if you're sharing with others, that's pretty awkward.

It's really a solid place to check out a game, as long as it doesn't get too busy.  I've shown up on some afternoons where the A's game is on, and some solid fans are there, and we can just post up, have a few beers and enjoy the game there.  If it gets too hectic there (which it often does), that can kill the hardcore sports vibe, but that isn't for everyone.

Worth mentioning that the service is friendly, and fast considering the traffic they see.

Came here with the team after tonight's (Friday) softball game at around 8.30 pm.  Super crowded, and seating was tough to find.  This really is a bar & grill - big screens everywhere for tonight's Giants game plus the NBA Playoff games on ESPN.  One of my teammates suggested this place because of two reasons - availability of a bar, plus 50% off appetizers on Fridays.  Extensive menu of burgers, cheesesteaks, and chicken sandwiches.  For the healthy eaters, they offer turkey burger as a substitution for the normal burger, and chicken in their cheesesteaks.  I didn't notice if there was an additional charge for this change though.

We ordered a Roasted Garlic Bleu Cheese burger, and a Mushroom burger with Swiss Cheese, one fountain soda, and an order of Garlic Fries.  This all came out to approx. $22.  Not unreasonable...until you get your order!!!  It was worth it (in terms of portions!).  Their burgers were average with the Mushroom burger being served on a roll.  That was a first!  But...the Garlic Fries was huge.  Not a ton of fresh garlic, but definitely the garlic flavor was in the fries..plus they added Parmesan cheese.  I'm not going to rave about this meal because it wasn't really spectacular...but good enough for after a softball game.  Somebody else ordered the Bacon Cheese Fries.  Good choice!  The portion of these fries were large as well, but they put a lot of cheese, and a lot of BACON in them...with a HUGE dollop of sour cream.  If I go back, this was what I am going to order!

I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but if you're in the area, and hankering for some Bacon Cheese Fries, then check it out!

This place is within walking distance to where I work; It's actually pretty close to where a lot of people work. Meaning that it gets crowded - especially during the Friday lunch hour. I recommend calling in and ordering beforehand, although if you do the pickup thing, they won't let you eat there [at least that's what the bartender told us last time].

The cheesesteak sandwich I had was delicious but minus one star because I'm always afraid to run into my bosses there while I'm chugging a beer.
