Cheap drinks, good music, great friends....

Usually I "bar hop" and this is on my path - I have a few friends who will not come with me though because its usually too packed to even make a venture through the crowds.

Its not the cleanest place, but it IS a real dive bar, so you have to expect that.

If I was Leaving Las Vegas and wanted to drink myself to death it would be inside of St Jerome's.  Dark, good music, cheap drinks, barkeeps understand their job description and the most amazing fog machine I've ever seen.  Well... I didn't actually see the machine, the fog is thick and cloudy though, just how I like it.  Immediately transported back to my youth, laser tag/photon anyone?

Start or finish a night here, however haven't been on a weekend or during the day and probably won't - why push it?  Good chance one of my weeknights will be here.

This is where we started our night bar hopping around town. I usually like to start the night at a dive bar. That's how we do it in LA, it should be no different in NY. Upon some recommendations we came here.

As soon as I stepped foot into this bar, I loved it instantly. It was dark, gritty and had a total rocker feel to it. The type of dive bar I would be a regular to.

It was all good in the hood up until I payed the tab. Usually a bar like this in LA, the drinks would be dirt cheap. Not here though. It was kinda expensive. I don't remember the exact cost of each drink, but as a seasoned pro of dive bars. I knew something wasn't right. Is there such a thing as an expensive dive bar? No, at least there shouldn't be. Too bad, I kinda liked this place.

This is one of my favorite bars in the city.  I have never failed to have an amazing time here.

As an establishment, I should honestly probably have taken away one star for the disgusting bathrooms, and the $20 credit card minimum, but then again it sort of goes with the territory.

Everything about this bar fits with it.  The music is always good, and the DJs are always down for requests.  The bartenders, many of whom also work at other bars in the neighborhood, are awesome.  The platform in the back left corner is occasionally graced with transvestite pole dancer.

Bud and Bud Light are always $2, and other drinks are pretty cheap (I think wells are $5?).

What truly makes this place amazing is the eclectic group of people that come, as has been mentioned.  And the fact that once everyone is there, no one cares who you are or what you do.  It's the kind of place where it's completely acceptable to share booths with random strangers, or to have a couple sitting at one of the tables on a date and directly across from them have a bunch of wasted friends rocking out on the booths.

If you want to let loose and have a night to remember (or forget as the case may be), St. Jeromes is your place.

This miiiight be the weirdest establishment I have ever been to on a Sunday afternoon. Or at least a close second to Tijuana. For some reason we stumbled into this dark, strange place that we THOUGHT was called "Underwear" due to the sign above the storefront. Unfortunately, it named after a Saint instead. We were greeted by a kind sociable bouncer, who was also the bartender, and it only got better from there. $2 beers, a strange photoshoot going on, and T-Pain "I'm on a Boat" on the sound system.

It. was. awesome.

This is the first time I have been conflicted about writing a review because I want to keep a place all to myself.* This bar rocks.

The place itself is cool. Small and narrow, there are semi-circular booths on the left and the bar in the back on the right. It's dark, lit only by candles and a glowing gnome appropriately dubbed St. JerGnome.

Most importantly, their happy hour is phenomenal. $2 Budweisers. And it lasts UNTIL MIDNIGHT every day.

The bartender, Conrad (I think?), is the man. One of my friends got a bit overzealous, and ordered a beer for someone who wasn't ready for another yet. Conrad just took it back and drank it himself.

It was more like having my friend give me beers because he was standing next to the cooler, than having a bartender serve me beers. But only if I was paying $2 plus tip to my friend for some reason. Maybe because he's down on his luck. That's probably why he's standing next to the cooler too; easy access to all the booze.

Still not sold? They have Franzia prominently displayed on the shelf. $3 a glass. That's what I thought. See you there.

*And perhaps because of pressure from a certain friend. Luckily, her wishes have no bearing on my actions. Hi E!

Disco ball + hipsters + a DJ who was playing a lot of eclectic tunes - Little Richard, Aretha, the Supremes, Blondie, Michael Jackson (the early years), Los Lobos, and an ill-fitting Phil Collins song (ick) - makes this bar stand out from the other hole-in-the-wall drinking establishments that lack signage in the area. bartender was nice and competent at making mixed drinks, but the crowd seemed really happy with the $2 Budweiser late Sunday night happy hour thing they had going on.

This is where I learned that I can no longer drink Jaeger shots.

It's hidden and dark and cozy and ... is that a fog machine? St. Jerome's was sandwiched between Sober Jane and Drunk Jane so I really did enjoy myself. The crowd is cool, skater boys and twenty/thirty something LES kids along with the requisite weekend Yuppies. Definitely try to snag a booth If you're with a group since the candlelit tables, rock music, and leather seats feel like a 90's music video.

Hey, some nights its ok to hear a bad dj train-wreck.
When its one of those nights, you probably don't care that there is vomit in the bathroom sink. When you get one of those nights, you're probably 3/4 in the bag, you're making out with someone you would never want in your own home, or in daylight, and you're probably feeling like a shower wouldn't wash the scum under your nails and under your nose.

A decent place on the weekends, kind of scummy but some nights thats just what the doctor ordered.

I was first invited here by friends last year and now it's become one of our staple hangouts.  The dark vibe, obscure movies, cheap drinks, and good music all add to an interesting ambiance at this bar.

Almost all of the different bartenders I've met here are friendly and have easily weaved their way into our social circles.  There's always a diverse crowd of people here as well, including guest appearances from older local drinkers.

The $2 Budweisers are a great deal, they should keep it running all night ... it seems a lot of people empty out around midnight when the drink specials stop.  If you're looking for an interesting bar without the fratboy crowd, definitely drop in.  In my experience it does crowded on Saturday nights, I'd recommend a weeknight or Sunday.

I kind of like this place.  I would estimate that I've been here maybe 5 or 6 times since it's been opened.  Usually it's a pretty average bar with pretty average people.

On my last visit here, my friend and I ordered shots and were accused by the bartender of leaving only 1 dollar tip on a three drink order.  We went over it again and again and were almost positive that we had left at least 4 dollars.  I don't know if it was the bartender being sheisty or if it was our drunkness that had caused us to add wrong, but it did leave a bad taste in my mouth.   Either way - I don't think a bartender should ever get visibly mad at a customer for however much they leave for a tip.  It's just poor manners, in my opinion.

ANYWAY, average place.  Go or don't go - it won't change your life or your night either way.

Not a HUGE fan of this place, but when I am hanging out on the LES i usually hit this spot first to take advantage of the $2 buds before midnight.

There are very few deals in NYC so I wa excited to find out about this one.

The crowd is usually lots of rockers/hipsters/other east village regulars. But sometimes they play decent music.

Again, I am usually gone after midnight, but until then this place gets 3 stars.

Drunk, looking for another drink and want to get your groove on? Head on down to St. Jerome's! It's the best aisle-dancing in town, and the crowd is usually drunk enough not to care if you're busting the moves or they're busting you.

A dark sanctuary with cheesy dance music and strong drinks--great for those nights when the Lower East Side meat market is raging and you're running east on Rivington, trying to escape!!

Best of luck to you in finding this place.  I just so happened to look and see a small chalkboard with "St. Jerome's" written on it.  Maybe it's for the best?  Yeah, because the lack of signage keeps it hidden and secret and awesome.  We went on a weekend at around 10pm because we heard that Bud Light bottles were $2 before midnight.  True story!  And they were cold beers, so wonderfully cold.  I'm very picky about the coldness of my beers, and trust, this place has perfected it.

We had our choice of a bunch of candlelit booths - possibly the most comfortable booths I've ever sat in.  The bartender was friendly, quick, and attentive.  Two bathrooms for such a small bar (very small) and an awesome DJ who played a big variety.  My one complaint is that halfway through the night, instead of playing old concert clips from the 1960's on the projector, they switched to a DVD of "Willow," the creepiest movie ever created.  Look it up on IMDB.  It gave me nightmares.

this bar is a diamond in the rough, located on the less bridge & tunnely zone of rivington st. a great mix of hot rocker types, hipsters and stray normal people. the atmosphere is cheeky and you know the trolly guy next to you looks sorta sexy by way of votive candle.

definitely check this place out- and say "i love new york" while you try not to slip in the pee puddles in the bathroom.

What beats Bruce Lee?

Nothing, of course. But especially nothing when you are watching Bruce Lee movies with the awesomely adorable bartender, who's eating ribs with you (that he ordered) after having made you a great Sidecar...

and then two more, each one getting better, if my inebriated tastebud memory serves me right.

I vote Sunday night the best!

From the outside St. Jerome's looks like any old bar, but once inside you get an instant feeling of familiarity and warmth [literally they were blasting the heat last time I went]. The place is really small near the bar, so it's best to kind of hang out in the front by the tables [if there is no bar or table seats available].

The drinks are pretty cheap, and the crowd is pretty chill and not overly pretentious. I'd describe St. Jerome's as an old man country bar theme for the indie clientele. Cool place to hang to be under the radar but gets crowded easily as the place is tiny. If this happens relocate to any of the other fun bars around the corner.

Dear everyone with heavy bangs,
I'm glad that I finally discovered your secret lair where you convene and decide which unnaturally sharp angle to cut them at!
Best,
Lauren

This place was paaaacked.  We waded in around 1:30 or so on a Friday night and were roughly barricaded from the bar by a crowd roughly four people deep.  While that isn't incredibly out of the ordinary.... four people deep = 90% of the floor space of the bar.  Teeny tiny.  It was so crowded that even two dollar beers were not enough to get us to stay in this tiny, tiny sweatbox and fight the crowds.  Cute booths.  Cute guys!

Was brought to St. Jerome's last night by a friend.  I think i found my new place to hang on a thursday.  Beers were CHEAP, bartender was friendly.  The place wasn't packed and the candlelit booths were not taken, so we were able to grab a seat and enjoy the music.  DJ was playing a great mix of classic rock albums from led zepplin to buffalo tom....  I will definitely be back on a weeknight, Im sure weekends are way too packed for my liking....

Fairly quiet early on... we got there around 9 or 10 on a Thursday night and the place wasn't crowded, but it didn't feel dead. This is good when you want to drink a Bud and a shot of Jack for $6, and even better if you actually want to be able to talk to the person you are with. Will check it out again late on a weekend for a different feel. P.S. They don't have Guiness, in case you care.

I never go out to bars anymore because I am cranky and cheap and I hate other people. But this place made me lose my bad attitude if only for a couple hours. The $2 beers are what sold me plus the night we were there they were playing great music. The ambiguously gay bartender was super-cute and it was not too packed. I recommend weeknights for maximum enjoyment.

Rainy Saturday afternoon.  $3 Bloody Marys made from scratch, with real horseradish, etc., and made to order ("How spicy do you want this?"  "Very."  "Gotcha.").  Nice leather banquettes and dark candlelit tables.  Put it all together and you end up with nothing less than a formula for bliss.

Alex got this bar right - $2 BUD / BUD LIGHT until Midnight every day!! Otherwise, it's just the right mix of people, decent DJs, even a go-go dancer one Friday night that I was there. I'd give it a "five star" but there's only one bathroom ..

Quite possibly one of the last decent places to go to on the Lower East Side that isn't overrun by drunken amateurs, St. Jerome's attracts an eclectic crowd of people who simply enjoy good music and drinking whiskey into the wee hours of the morning.  The dancing girl in the back of the bar always adds a little color to the scene, and the bartenders are among the most attentive in the area.  Hopefully St. Jerome's will somehow manage to keep it this way despite the encroaching misery that's been created throughout the hood over the years.

not a big space, and, a couple of times when i've dropped by on the weekends, this place has been too packed to even bother trying to wade in. last night, halloween, there was a managable and happy vibe of people. of course, who wouldn't be happy to dress up and behave badly?

the round booths are a good place to chill with a friend or can be used as an excuse to seat yourself down and meet some people, which i did. lucky for me, everyone i met was friendly.

I don't go here as much as I should - my girlfriend doesn't like it because it does smell a little funky - but I like to patronize places like this.  They place great music and it is really not pretentious, unlike places that are trying so hard to be anti-snobs that they are really worse than the snobs they rage against.  Bartenders are very cool.
