Not only do I ALWAYS find pretty cheap rates for their more than decent rooms when I need to stash family members or out of town guests they ALSO have a fun bar.
I was looking for a spot to have one of those 'meetings that never happened' and figured no one would be St G's bar at 4p on a Wednesday. I was right. . .Until 5p rolled around! That's when the place REALLY got hoppin'. By that time I had to run anyway but would to have loved to stay and hang with the mix of travelers and locals. Perhaps having the same kind of meeting I was :P
Absolutely true that this place is in a great location, and for the price, it cannot be beat. Moreover, it's just a few blocks away from Walgreens (the best drug store in the city) and CVS (for those who just cannot live without it).
During my stay there was a free bottle of champagne promotion. Admittedly, the "champagne" was an American sparkling wine "brut" rom Canandaigua, New York, but who is complaining when it's free. AND they offer a second bottle because they were unaware that the first had arrived with room service and felt that as a guest staying alone in the king size bed, I obviously needed that second bottle...
Room service (limited) is quite reasonable compared with most "luxury" hotels, though of course you might want to try the area's restaurants.
Finally, thank goodness that the hotel is small and well organized, which makes the rooms highly accessible -- no winding around long corridors in search of an elevator. Really, you stroll into the lobby past Marilyn's legs and you are in your room in about a minute -- priceless for a business traveler on the go.
Internet access costs $11 for wifi, speed 1 Mbps. Could be faster, but should be sufficient for most tasks.
We stayed at this hotel for one night and had to change rooms three times. I never do that but the first room we stayed in, the phone was dead and it smelled AWFUL (even after opening the windows) - not to mention we requested a king and got a double. The second room they gave us was a handicap room and somehow had red dye or kool aid all over the floor and around the bed. We finally settled into another room after much annoyance by the night attendant. This is not a four star hotel by any means. AVOID IT!
The Kimpton hotels nearby (Hotel Madera, Palormar, etc) are so much nicer in terms of the rooms, so book them instead if you can. And, I'm sorry, but I refuse to top rate any so-called "luxury" hotel that makes you pay over $11 to log onto the internet. Not to mention they don't even give you conditioner in addition to shampoo. Weak!
Great hotel with very nice rooms, friendly staff and inexplicable statue of Marilyn Monroe's famous upskirt over the subway grate shot welcoming you at the front lobby.
Had to chuckle though during the entire stay.
Every last piece of literature, plaques, front-desk, matchbooks, stationary, letterhead, etc. tells you that this is one of our Nation's "Capital" hotels. I mean, come on people! There is a difference between Capitol and Capital. I'm going out on a limb and guessing foreign owner/manager and/or the spellchecker didn't catch it so everything went to print before the oops was discovered.

GW fall recruitment takes place at the St. Gregory Hotel so GW law students learn to know the place quite well. The rooms are really nice. Some of them have little kitchen areas but nearly all of them at least have seating areas in addition to the bed area. The rooms are really well maintained and clean, etc. Also the downstairs bar area is nice with conference as well as lounge areas.

This is a review based not on the quality of towels or service, but based on the unethical, misleading advertising this hotel offers. I can only hope that after reading this that you're as disgusted as I am and will think twice before giving this hotel a cent of your money.
I booked a two night stay in this hotel for $110.00 per night. This should be a total of $220 before taxes. The hotel looked nice and clean, and was in a great location. After booking and browsing their site I noticed a The "Deal" page showing a special for "BOOK ONE NIGHT, STAY THE SECOND FOR $1". NOW...before reading any further...lets have you do the math, $110 a night, for 2 nights with the DOLLAR deal should be...$111.00 before any taxes or fees correct? Guess what, when you select the SAME $110 dollar room with this deal, the price is NOW $198 + your $1. There was no mention that the cost would increase, it simply took me to a "book now" page that states $198 for the first night +$1, for the same exact $110 room. If I hadn't booked my room before clicking this deal button, yes, I'd have gotten $22 off my purchase, but wouldn't be getting what was truly offered.
This bothered me enough to call the hotel and ask how can they justify this. I was advised by the hotel staff this is "legal and allowed in this country". He actually told me "anything you buy in the US that is buy one get one free, the price is doubled" I asked the man at that point "which country are you from?", since I've never heard of jacking up prices to not give any substantial deal at all, ever in my LIFE! The staff was offended by my inquiry of the employee's country of origin and directed me the "Marketing Director's" number. I got his voice mail. Once this was over I canceled with them and booked my hotel elsewhere. I have booked a better hotel, in the same city for $90 dollars a night! I explained to the new hotel's booking employee what was going on and ended my explanation with..."If you go to McDonald's when they offer the 2 for 1 Big Mac Deal, is that sandwich still $5 or do they charge you $10 for your buy one get one 'FREE'?". All she could do was laugh in amazement.
The marketing director from the previous hotel called me. I missed his call last week but called him back when I had the chance. He was nice, until I explained my story. He remembered me from my stern voice mail 2 weeks prior. He was very offended, again, that I asked where his employees country of origin was. This was taken out of context as my inquiry was solely because this employee was talking to me about advertising laws in this country. I work in advertising (in the US) for 12 years. I was being told by hotel workers that altered prices tailored to a marketing campaign is flat out ok. I proceeded to explain that in this particular country misleading advertising is not condoned. He started shouting things like I'm a citizen, "I'm a college graduate", and shouting the name of his fraternity while in college. I asked what he said after he stated his fraternity name and he told me "if you went to college you'd know what I said". He also stated the fact that all his employees aren't from this country including him, and what does that have to do with anything, I explained again the rules of misleading advertising, and to top it all off, he works IN THE NATION'S CAPITAL!
The marketing director, stated I am wrong, called me names: bigot, and a**hole, and stated this has been the policy for over 8 years, "Offer 2 for 1, but hike the price to almost the same cost as if they didn't offer a deal"
Ladies and Gentlemen, the longer we support these kind of operations, the easier it is to always get screwed. We have bailouts in this country because noone is held accountable. Well, if I am held accountable in my career, they should be too.
I called back to speak to the head of the company, I didn't get his name as I was very upset at this point in time. Again like the marketing director, he was nice until he heard my name, and then became very aggressive in defense. He stated his employee did not call me any names. He told me that if I posted a review of this account on the internet, they would find me via my email address (used to create an account on a public review site) and legal action would be taken.
So, misleading advertising, ripping off their guests and terrible customer service. Nice way to conduct a business. -5 stars.

Perfect for out of towners who are looking for great place to stay and be accessible to restaurants.
This is a great hotel to stay in for business trips. I was in town for business and totally got lucky.
It has modern characteristics but what I love is the detail and craftmanship of the octagon and dot tile in the bathrooms maintaining its orginality.
The rooms are large and equipped with up to date appliances.
The selling factor here is the location. Located in Dupont Circle which is surrounded by a plethora of restaurants. If you don't mind walking, a 15-20 minute walk will take you to Georgetown for shopping and more yummy restaurants just down M street, otherwise its a very short cab ride.

Recently stayed here for labor day weekend. Great location, within walking distance from George Town, and the Metro. The staff was great and very helpful. Bathroom was clean, all up-to-date appliances and nice plasma TV in the living room. Next time I am in DC, I will definitely stay here.

I was pleasantly surprised at how spacious and affordable the rooms were at the St. Gregory. The hotel has such a wonderful location that I would have expected cramped rooms and a higher cost. It was immaculately clean, quiet, and comfortable. I would definitely recommend it to visitors from out of town.
We stayed here for two weeks the summer of 2003 and loved it! We got a killer deal thru AAA and got a two room suite with kitchen and "living room". It had a nice TV, small but full size frig (I mean it wasn't the usual mini) to keep my half and half, beer and pop in, stove, coffee maker and coffee pods every day, lots of free toiletries in the nice large bathroom every day, convenient access to pop and ice, free newspaper, dishes, microwave, another TV in the bedroom area, lots of help with directions and taxi service whenever we needed it, especially nice clerks, close and convenient to restaurants, delis, sights. We couldn't have been happier with the place. Highly recommended! http://www.capitalhote...
Here is what our rooom was like except it had 2 beds: http://delivery.vrxstu...

This was my home away from home for a week during the American Library Association annual meeting. The upsides are: great location, excellent water pressure in the shower, decent-sized rooms, and very friendly and helpful staff. Negatives are: no wifi and internet access costs 10 bucks a day, the alarm clock took 10 minutes for me to figure out (I hate being awakened by the phone), and the towels could be softer and fluffier. Overall, I would definitely recommend this hotel. The location really cannot be beat. It is surrounded by Metro stations, but I actually walked everywhere from here. It was a straight shot to the convention center, super close to Georgetown, and an easy walk down to the National Mall. There are some excellent restaurants in the surrounding area and a drugstore right across the street.
