My boyfriend and I flew into town for 3 hours to visit a friend who lives near Salt Lake City. We decided Squatters would be the perfect dinner spot for our quick visit based on numerous recommendations from Yelpers and a fellow vegan friend who used to live in SLC. I'm so glad we went!
The clientèle here was exactly what I like to see - tattooed and pierced people, suburban looking families, hipsters, and business folk all in one place enjoying delicious beer and delectable bar food with a modern, healthier, slow foodie, locavore twist.
Service was slow at first. Once I got the waitress's attention, I was sure to let her know that we had a plane to catch. Thankfully, she stepped up the pace and didn't have too much of an attitude about my straightforward request.
I had the Tempeh salad. The tempeh was perfectly toasted and worked amazingly well with the artichoke hearts and other flavors/textures. I'd most definitely order this again if I'm ever fortunate enough to come back.
My boyfriend had the Chef's Veggie Burger. I snagged a few bites of it and we both agreed that it was the most delicious veggie burger we've ever had at a restaurant. It tastes nothing like a burger (which is how I prefer my veggie burgers). My boyfriend said it reminded him of a crab cake rather than a veggie burger. It's been ages since I've had a crab cake, so I don't know about that, but it was amazingly delicious. The avocado and hummus accompaniments really seal the deal.
I wish there was a Squatters in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
I'm curious about all the 3-star reveiws that say, "Wow! The beer was great, but the food and service both pretty much suck!"
I don't think great beer is enough compensate for bad service and bad food and, I'll add one more thing, bad prices.
Specifically, I would like to mention the Tequila shots... $9 for a shot of Cuervo Silver! Are you kidding me?? I would expect to pay $7-$9 for a shot of Patron, but Squatter's doesn't even offer Patron.
Our party of four arrived at 4pm on a Ute Game Saturday and it was not yet crowded. After sitting at our table for 15 minutes, I had to go ask the hostess of we were ever going to meet our waitress/waiter. Apparently, this pissed off our waitress, because she arrived at our table with a major sour attitude and it never really improved. She would show up at our table about every twenty minutes and she was annoyed anytime we wanted to order or request anything.
We shared 3 appetizers, Hot wings (very good), Nachos with added chicken (less than mediocre, prety much on par with something you'd get at Taco Time), and a basket of onion rings and sweet potato fries (ICE COLD fries and Rings were soggy, greasy, cold and doughy).
We had a couple pitchers of Ute Crimson Ale (very good beer), brought our own bottle of wine ($10 corkage is a bit steep for a brew pub) and 3 incredibly overpriced shots of nasty-ass tequila. We got the key lime pie (VERY good) and the molten chocolate cake (a stale ding-dong with hershey's chocolate sauce, YUCK! We ate about 15% of it).
Our bill for four people to have appetizers, drinks and two desserts came to $114.
The bill would have been met with a much better response if the food, service and overall expereince would have been good.
In this tough economy, everyone is being more careful with their money and choosing wisely where to spend it. We will be spending our hard-earned dollars at restuaurants where the staff act like they APPRECIATE our business. This definitely leaves Squatter's OUT of the running.
The oatmeal stout is amazing!!!
The cuz and I stopped here one night on our drive up to Wyoming and boy were we glad! The food was very good, and the beer was even better! We ended up getting a really cool to-go glass container of the stout that we enjoyed later in Yellowstone :-P
The beer I had, a local brew, was excellent. The fish and chips, was an embarrassment. The fish was flavorless, obviously frozen Morton's or something like that.... And the really tragic part was the batter. It was deep fried, but soft, no crunch, and had a thick soft doughy layer. It had the most wrong, dull flavor. The hamburger was not good either. It's full of people, really loud and people looking like they are having a great time. But the food sucks.
I live near Russian River Brewing Company in Santa Rosa, CA. When the owners heard I was going to Salt Lake, they suggested that I visit their brewer friend Jenny at Squatter's. I am very glad they did.
I was given a nice tour of the building by Amy. I got to meet the brewers Jenny and Jason, who were both very nice. I tried the sampler, served in a ski, and all were very tasty.
I had the Fish & Chips, which was done to perfection. It would be hard for me to say where I've had the absolutely best Fish & Chips ever, but these were definitely up at the top of the list. Moist without being soggy, flakey without being crumbly - and delicious!
My dad and his wife, who do not drink, both said they were glad that I brought them there. My stepmom even got a jar of stout mustard and a Provo Girl t-shirt! I had the Polygamy Porter (brewed by Wasatch) and got a t-shirt as well, which was quite a hit when I got back to NorCal.
Squatters is a beautiful place in a revitalized part of downtown, and I will definitely return there every time I am in Salt Lake.
Yay... I really wanted to drink in SLC and my bf obliged me. I had their flight of beers and they were all yummy. Except they were out of a few of the tastier sounding ones, which was a bummer.
All in all... this seemed like a pretty normal semi-upscale bar anywhere else, but cool that is was actually in the tee-totaling capital of the US.
Watch out for the panhandlers in SLC. Getting in our car after leaving here, the most aggressive and jerky one either of us have ever encountered (and we both have lived in Berkeley, mind you) wouldn't take no for an answer and yelled and bitched at us until we actually pulled out of the parking spot and left his unpleasant presence entirely.
I've had to stay in SLC several times this year on business. This place is nice for a good dinner and a beer. They have a few TVs so if you want to catch a game, you can. The food is pretty passable. It's good enough pub grub, but not awesome. The beers are pretty good. You have to love the tongue in cheek names of some of them...Polygamy Porter and Provo Girl Pils. If you're in SLC and crave a good beer, check it out.
I've enjoyed Squatters in the past. Good food & beer.
My wife & I stopped in last night at about 11:45 to have a bite of dessert. We saw opening hours posted on the door but no closing hours were listed. The hostess welcomed us in and we decided to sit at the bar. The barkeep, Missy, ignored us for 15 minutes and then came over to declare they closed at midnight.
Its understandable that Missy wanted to get out of there on a warm Thursday night, yet we feel her actions were inappropriate to a patron.
I suppose one can expect a brew pub to excel at beer rather than food. A business dinner took me to Squatters. With a trade show in town, it was semi-crowded and had to wait a bit for a table. I had a porter, which was a great beer...against my better judgement I ordered fried calamari for an app...it was greasy and, well, tasted like it came from the ocean far, far away and a long, long time ago.
My carnitas plate was uninspired, tasted as if it was cooked by someone who once read about Mexican food in a book. The wait staff was friendly and responsive. I'll be back for a beer or three but not for dinner.
My first time finding a place to go have drinks in Salt Lake City. GREAT beer! Awesome food....
I really liked Squatters & would definitely go back next time I'm in Salt Lake City. They make GREAT beer and their menu was pretty extensive & very good....
The chips & salsa & the Turkey club sandwich were exceptional. Also, I really enjoyed their amber beer.
It also has a great fun atmosphere & outdoor seating...
Definitely Check it out...They also have an airport location at SLC....
Squatters is one of the oldest and perhaps the best brewpub in SLC. A contemporary feel and spacious atmosphere are quite inviting. The focus is on the bar and the "beer wall" that lists the current offerings. Seasonals cycle through in a matter of weeks so you're always anxious to see what is new.
Service is as good as it gets. The employees are obviously trained in beer knowledge and it refreshing.
Food isn't quite traditional pub fare. You can still order a gourmet burger or pizza, but they offer many ethnic dishes as well. Prices are more than reasonable for downtown SLC.
They're a little lax on enforcing some of the Utah laws compared to other establishments. I was able to have a few beers without pressure to order food. They serve full strength beers as well (not the 3.2 beers) because they sell them to the state of Utah who in turn sells them back to the restaurant. Absurd, I know, but at least I can have a full strength IPA if I want one.
The beer is phenomenal. Full Suspension, Captain Bastard's, St. Provo Girl, etc. The seasonals are often the best beers on tap such as HopHead Red, Irish Stout, etc. Many GABF awards are proudly displayed. If you're serious about beer, then this is your place.
After arriving at my hotel late at night because of unreliable transportation, all I wanted was a drink and some food, ok, GOOD drink and food. I asked the porter who recommended two brew pubs, but since he had a 10% coupon for Squatters, my cheap-ass walked the 3 blocks to that pub.
The place was packed at 10:30 pm. There was a wait for seating and the place is two floors worth of tables. Being a party of one I was able to squeeze my way into the bar for food.
I started with their unfiltered larger, it was very, very good. English style, not too bitter but had a nice flavor and a good body.
My food selection was boring with a bacon cheeseburger but let me tell you, it was GOOD.
Squatters Pub has been voted the Best Place to bring out of town guest and I would have to agree.
I walked the three blocks back to my hotel much happier than the way there. Thanks Squatters, you made me happy!
Was in SLC for business and the people that we were meeting suggested Squatters Pub Brewery for our business lunch. Located in the downtown area of SLC, Squatters is a nice blend of restaurant and pub.
The first thing you noticed upon walking into Squatters is that it has a nice up in the mountains meet wild west feel to it. You feel that it has that old look to it but it is clean and well maintained. Nice large bar area with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. I can see why this is popular in the SLC area.
We sat down and got our menu. Best way to describe the menu is that with the variety it kind of reminded my of a Cheesecake Factory Menu with lots of organic and vegetarian options (who would have thought that a pub in SLC would have vegetarian and organic options than most pubs in San Francisco). As I mentioned, food options here are very diverse, they offer all your standard brew pub options such as burgers, pizzas, and wings, but they also offer alternatives such as Edamame, Hummus, Jambalaya, Fish Tacos, Thai Curry, Tandoori Chicken, and Tilapia to name a few.
Prices here are reasonable, generally speaking for items such as burgers, sandwiches, salads, and personal pizzas, you're looking at the $7 to $12 range. Once you start looking into their entrees you're looking between $12 - $20. I don't recall seeing an item over $20 on their menu.
Looking over the menu decided to get the Squatters Wrap which is a chicken wrap with a salad. As we discussed business the Wrap came. I have to say it was a decent size and packed full of chicken. The side salad was a small but decent portion. Overall the wrap was probably one of the better wraps I've had in a while. The combination of flavors just went together real well. The other people at the table seemed to enjoy their food alot.
The waitress was friendly and gave us space to conduct business. Just wish it wasn't during business hours because I would have loved to tasted one of their beers.
Overall, I'm surprised a place like Squatters is in SLC especially with all of the vegetarian, organic, and vegan options they offer. I know people in the Bay Area like to bad mouth SLC, but to be quite frank, I think the pubs in the Bay Area could take a lesson from Squatters in SLC and learn how to turn up their menu a couple of notches. Great place for dinner and hoping to go back to try one of their beers, excellent and highly recommended 4 star rating for Squatters Pub Brewery.
Certainly enjoyed having a pint here while out with coworkers. Unfortunately I wasn't able to try the food, but it looked pretty good. The beer, though was quite good, and the service, while maybe a touch on the slow side was not at all disappointing. I'll certainly be back next time I'm in the area, and will seek it out next time I'm stuck at SLC airport.
Another thing I really enjoy about this style of brewpub is the ability to take home a growler - while not unique to this establishment, they did have more sizes and the option for a 6 pack, so more options than most.
I couldn't help but keep looking over my shoulders the entire time I was at Squatters. Food in Salt Lake City usually consists of eating thirteen different renditions of the same casserole and washing it all down with your favorite non-caffeinated soda. Where had I found myself? Do the residents of Salt Lake City know about what is going on here?
Where did they find a menu with such a diverse plethora of options? Their menu reads well with many options suiting to just about everyone's taste. It comes complete with individual beer suggestions depending on your dining choice. Carnivore, Omnivore, Vegetarian, or Vegan, everyone will be pleased. They even use local and organic produce and meats.
The atmosphere reminds you of that loft apartment you've always wanted to get. The main floor sports a bar with giant beer vats and a sleek bar. There are large tables that can easily handle families and large parties. The back patio is nice if you want to see the stars, but due to the smog and cold it's probably only open a few months out of the year. The top floor is 21+ and sports a full bar and a fairly decent view of the city.
The real reason to be here of course is the beer. Not only can you find all the Squatters favorites in the lineup, but also a few from other local breweries as well. They also offer seasonal specials, cask style, and nitro charged pints for us Beerafarians.
You'll probably have to pay for parking in the lot next door, unless you luckily snag a spot on the street. They are also open til the wee hours on weekends, the cost of which is a stripped down menu.
I'd put it as a 'must dine' in Salt Lake City.
The name should betray the fact that is a brewery first and an eatery second. Honestly, there's such a huge difference between the quality of their beer and their food that it knocked two stars off. When I get a glass of beer, I usually want some good eats to go with it. But everytime I come here I have been so disappointed by the food, even though they look so good.
I think the first clue to their lackluster food was the fact they serve so many types of food, Chinese, Mexican, American, etc. A place that doesn't do anything well will hide it with a variety of options. Avoid their salmon salad, aside from the salmon, the salad was inedible. The rest of the menu is very average. I do give them props for serving edamame though, now that's a true beer snack (but again, another genre of food, Japanese, they serve!)
The beers here are quite good, surprisingly for a state with such strict liquor laws. And very sizeable glasses as well. Try the sampler here if you're not coming in with a preferred beer. However, the beer alone won't save this place from losing two stars.
went 50 50 on a buffalo burger and on a squatters burger, both were good, not great. the squatters burger had bourbon garlic grilled onions that i thought were going to have more of a taste.....
buffalo burger was a little light on bbq sauce but still decent. garlic fries were a little bit of a let down. the normal fries/wedges were much better. \
lots of beer selection which bumped this place from a 3 to a 4.
Maybe I'm being too hard given that Red Rock was just around the corner and I really enjoyed it there, but Squatters just didn't do it for us. The beers were just not quite right - Provo Girl was the only one that I would even consider buying from a store - and the service was a little frosty for a pub in the hotel district.
If you are only in town for a little bit, you can give Squatters a miss.
Squatters surprised me on my visit home and I was so excited. Good news everyone, they have bought that weird restaurant that was above theirs and extended their seating. I was able to sit in this area and I loved it. Nothing is wrong with the other areas - I enjoy them too - but upstairs has gorgeous exposed brick walls and great vaulted ceilings.
Squatters is a microbrewery so one of the main draws is their beer. I love it not for the taste (which is good) but I love the names. It's mostly named after local places like Emigration Canyon, the Wasatch mountains and Provo Girl which is a pun on the fact that people in Provo don't drink (super LDS).
The menu has a wide variety consisting of burgers, pizza, pasta, fish and anything in between. Every item has a suggested beer next to it so it should be pretty easy to make your meal decision easier!
I would highly recommend Squatters for anyone looking for a great meal and great beer without spending too much.
I decided against the sampler because most of the beers here are on the light side. I usually favor porters, but I thought Captain Bastard's Oatmeal Stout was better than the Polygamy Porter. I enjoyed the winter brew as well, very spicy and unique. Go for the bottled beers if you want high ABV.
The food was better than I expected, most breweries slack on quality cuisine. My pizza was good, very basic with just cheese, sauce and basil. The burger was decent and the garlic fries weren't overwhelming. Service was fast and attentive enough.
A brewery in Utah...who woulda thunk? And what a GREAT name!
Very excellent selection of freshly brewed hops. A good (albeit bland) selection of eats. But you're here for the hops, so that's all good.
If you're in SLC, this is a must do.
I love movies, my husband loves breweries. On our trip to Sundance, we had dinner at Squatters. I didn't try the beer but my husband seemed happy.
We ordered two appetizers to split- they were just OK. I wouldn't go again just because of the food. There was a 20 minute wait on a Sunday night. Apparently, this place is really popular. It must be the beer.
I was staying at a hotel near Squatter's, & noticed a Buca de Beppo across the street. But in the name of supporting the locals and getting a taste of what I can only find in Salt Lake, I gave Squatter's a try. Not a good move...
I was a bit disappointed when I walked through the door and noticed a rack of Squatter's merchandise. Let the food & the beer do the talking, not the T-Shirts. But I charged ahead.
The service was HORRIBLE. I know that when you're faced with a packed house and/or you're short-staffed that it can take a bit long, but there were 19 other people in the whole restaurant (believe me, I had time to count) and there were seven servers and three bartenders working. It took forever to get served, and to his credit, my server apologized for the confusion. I guess he thought someone else had my table.
I ordered a half litre of Captain Bastard's Oatmeal Stout, a side caesar, and the jambalaya. Their menu is very, very eclectic, which made me a bit nervous because I expected pub fare, not cuisine taken from literally all over the world.
The caesar was pretty good, though had iceberg instead of romaine lettuce, which is always a bit of a bummer, but no big deal.
The Jambalaya, which promised andouille sausage, proved to be quite a disappointment. It was more of a stew in that it was drowning in sauce, and the sausage was definitely not andouille. Don't get me wrong; it wasn't bad. Just not what I was hoping for, as I love andouille sausage.
The Captain Bastard's was GREAT, with a nice rich flavor but still very, very smooth. If you're in town and want a drink, this is not a bad spot as their beers are pretty good and award-winning. Just try to sit at the bar and pass on the food.
The building is great. Except for the Disney-esque trinkets that they have for sale, it's a great old building with a lot of character and a really sharp bar. Quite impressive, really.
All in all, I know I'll never see Squatter's again. But on the other hand I'm glad that I checked it out. Live and learn.
Oh, and the final tally came up to $27 before tip. A bit spendy for what I ended up with, I thought.
Good luck and happy eating!
I have been reading reviews for the food and beer at Squatters for a while now. We finally went for an early dinner. We arrived at about 4pm (Saturday) and I expected the place to be empty. We walked in and the place was almost full. We were seated quickly but it took a while before our server greeted us and asked for our drink order. It took even longer for our server to bring our drinks and appetizer. The food was good, we had the nachos appetizer (plenty for two, probably even enough for four people). My wife had tha carnitas and I had a burger and fries. The food was great, the service was just okay.
So after a terrible experience with the airlines and being stuck in a hotel in Salt Lake in the middle of the night, I hiked the 4 blocks from the plaza in the cold to seek out this place. I walked in on Saturday night, prime time, and it was empty save for 6 people (also bumped from my flight). What gives Salt Lake??? There has to be a few people who like beer...
Drink: Porter, was smooth, good solid coffee/chocolate taste, but light. Not as flamboyant as Death and Taxes, but very very drinkable. This was an excellent porter. Better than most I've had.
Food: I had a little pizza which wasn't out of the ordinary, but was executed well and was delicious.
Now the best part, I had my cat with me when my flight got bumped, so i was stuck in SLC with no litter box, food or anything. The bartender talked to the cooking staff and got me some nice turkey meat for the kitty and she gobbled it up.
Squatters: IF YOU NEED BEER IN SALT LAKE, GO HERE. Also if you eat turkey meat only and poo in a box.
Well, I like this place. It is like most your micro breweries. The atmosphere is good, people are friendly, beers are good. My favorite of course is the Polygamy Porter, like they say, why just have one! Full Suspension is good as well; the other beers are a bit on the light side.
Taking one star off? Yeah, the food is just okay. They do have a wide selection, a little bit of all types of ethnic food, except they are all Americanized beyond recognition. Yes, I realized this is just a brewery, but they could improve a bit more. Like the rice in the chicken bowl, can't they made rice that is not so mushy that is for grandma only?! I think they can make the food appeal to the mass without butchering it, but darn, their yam fries are good!
That said, I would come back to the place. Some yam fries and some porter.
This place has the most energy in the downtown SLC area. The beer is worth the trip on its own, and there are plenty of food choices too.
This place was awesome. We went with a group of 8 people and only waited for 30 mins, and the place was packed on a Thursday! The waitress we had was awesome. She was cracking jokes, took pictures of the group, and even split 8 separate checks! Kudos to her!!
The food was great. There was something for everyone. The appetizers held us over until the food arrived (the buffalo wings were a tad too salty for me, though, but others enjoyed them). I ordered the Black and Bleu burger and it was extremely good. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare) and they did not skimp on the bacon or bleu cheese.
The beer was the best we had in the area. I really enjoyed the Hefeweizen, it was extremely delicious. The Pilsner was good but not as tasty as the Hefeweizen.
I would definitely come back here when we return to Utah next year!
If I am going to Squatter's for food, it better be Brunch. The Eggs Florentine are delicious and I could not recommend them more. My only complaint, which is not directed to Squatter's but to Utah as a state, is that one cannot get alcohol, i.e. Mimosa, until after 12pm but one can get beer before then.
Squatter's is a cool hangout, great staff, good food (but I prefer the brunch), and a great location. I would definitely recommend it to visitors and locals who have not experienced it yet.
Went here Because I've heard of the polygamy porter and ended up trying the sampler cuz it's only 4.99, we got an extra shot that was supposed to be 50 cents extra but didn't get charged. The organic amber ale and full suspension pale ale were quite good. I wanted to buy a growler (1/2 gal) but it was a little pricey at about $10, the shirts were also pricey, starting at 17.99 all the way up to $39.99! The service was good but we didn't try the food. The breweries in SLC get screwed by the alcohol beverage bastards so their "to-go" beers are pretty pricey (their IPA and Devestator bottles are $5 a piece! Even if you buy 6 or more!). Must be nice in the winter.
Generally you don't think of SLC as a place that would be ripe for good beer, but be pleasantly surprised when you go to Squatter's. Not only is the beer selection great and the beer excellent, but the food is not your regular pub fare. It is delicious. They even have tofu and rice type of dishes. Everyone in your group will walk away happy.
My first Squatter's experience was at the SLC airport. On a recent stay in downtown SLC, I decided to stop by the "proper" establishment. I was greeted with 2 great beers, a Squatter's IPA and an Oatmeal Stout. Both were very tasty (but it's SLC, so make sure you don't try and have both of them in front of you at once!). The bigger surprise was the food. I had a buffalo burger smothered in a stout BBQ sauce sided with some of the best sweet potato fries I've ever had. Very good for what it is (a brewery with gastropub fare). The service was a little slower than I'd have liked, but I never felt neglected. I will be back!
I really liked this place. It's big, but not in a bad way. It wasn't super loud. The service was good. They have lots of good beer choices for relatively good prices. The hummus was some of the best I ever had.
So, a few years back, I enrolled in BYU. ( I'm not even LDS; what was I thinking?) Needless to say, I didn't last too long.
But, one redeeming part of living in Utah: Squatters Pub!!
I heart dark beer; their Captain Bastard is fantastic! Smooth, dark, slightly warm....oh, SO GOOD!!
I was in SLC for a wedding recently and Squatter's was recommended to me as a great place to get good beer. Lucky for me, it was located about 4 blocks from my hotel so it was an easy (and beautiful) walk. There was a little bit of a wait once we got there, but we were seated before we could take a sip of the beer we'd gotten at the bar. The back patio is totally shaded and is quite comfortable even in the summer. All the brews I sampled were tasty - but I think I liked the Chasing Tail and Full Suspension the best. We were tricked into ordering the garlic fries because someone read an article that it was THE thing to order - and it wasn't. They were soggy but did taste of garlic. If you are looking for a winner - try the black bean nachos.
Overall, the service was decent, the beers were tasty and the food was worth the walk. If I find myself in SLC again, I'd definitely go back.
Now HERE'S a kick ass microbrewery. We sat at the bar right in front of the kitchen so we got to see all the different dishes coming out. And lemme tell you, they ALL looked really damn good. The fish n' chips is by far the most popular, my friend got it and he said it rocked. I went with the Turkey Club sandwich with fries, sooo yummy. They use some local Stoneground bread here, and it's absolutely delicious. The blackened tilapia salad is also a winner, my friend mowed his down in about 90 seconds and practically licked his plate. You can't go wrong with the burgers either.
Our waiter Tony was super nice too. We were visiting for the weekend to go snowboarding, and we asked him for fun places to go out after dinner. He went and got a local newspaper and circled the cool places to go, and even drew us a map and explained the grid system to us (if you're an out-of-towner like us it can be confusing if you don't get the logic of it).
Bottom line: good ass food, great atmosphere, really friend and cool service, and reasonable prices.
Beer = OK for a local microbrew. I'm an IPA guy and the Full Suspension didn't quite meet that criterion, and the cask Golden Ale was just so-so.
Food = outstanding. The menu was far more diverse, high-quality, and delicious than I expected for a "Pub Brewery."
Service = excellent.
Nice HD TVs showing local sports.
I would definitely come again.
A good brew pub. Good selection of different beer types. Unfortunately, the meager amount of alcohol in the beer does not allow them to perform true to form. All the beers I tried were very tasty. A couple of bad points, they were out of three of the beers, probably the most popular and certainly the best names, Polygamy Porter, Captain Bastard Stout, and Chasing Tail Ale. There were a couple of bottled beers with a bit more punch - 6% and 8%, Devastator.
The courtyard is really nice, the evening we stopped there the weather was perfect and really conducive to quaffing. I did my own version of the sampler, half a dozen different full size beers. Should have had some sort of a buzz, but oh, well.
One of our party had food and he liked it. Shared the fries and they weren't that great. Maybe it was because he waited until they were cold to share them.
I enjoyed the general creativity of this place. Found it through Yelp and can't say as I am disappointed at all. There were several things that kept it from being a 5 though, and they were food related:
First the BBQ Chicken Pizza my wife had would have been perfect and possibly the best we had ever had IF the chicken had actually been BBQed instead of just cooked chicken. The bread was excellent and the sauce was great. It just needed something more.
I had the Ruben sandwich with "garlic" fries. The fries had a tiny bit of garlic on them, and a lot (My wife, "There is no such thing as 'too much Rosemary!'") of Rosemary. The bread on the Ruben suffered from soggyness and I thought it could have used some sort of toasting or broiling to be able to hold in all that sauerkraut goodness without soaking the bread.
However those were little things. The things that kept it from a full 5 stars. The Ruben was good, the fries were tasty, and the BBQ chicken pizza was a shade short of 'excellent'. Very worthwhile place to go. The atmosphere is fun and it seems like quite the place to be able to hang out and linger if you like.
Wait-staff was friendly and not at all pushy even though they were really busy. I'd go back if I was in the area again.
Awesome Microbrewery: check.
Lots of booze: check.
Pretty good food: check.
General good times to be had: check.
More booze: check.
