I actually really enjoy this place.

Location: West portal has an ok amount of parking but near Squat theres also parking behind the place, and hopefully you get lucky.

Venue: I love the decor and look inside, especially the giant menu.

Food: alright!! breakfast, lunch dinner whatever you need. I generally pick up a sandwich and i love them all. The club, is my first choice but sometimes ill get some crepes too which i enjoy. The cobb salad is great too!. I always add the onion soup because i love the cheese on top, its so amazing. The potatoes have some amazing herbacious taste going on. Wash it down with a mimosa for breakfast or anchor steam draft for lunch and dinner and its night night time for me.

    Squat & Gobble...

If you think Crepevine has it going on, then I highly suggest you check out a Squat & Gobble.  I can't even express how much I prefer this place, for one, the Eggs Benedict is ALWAYS good here!  The country potatoes is great, especially with the jalapeno tobasco (however you spell it) =) Then you have your crepe's to finish it off, of course I keep it traditional, nutella with strawberries and banana...I'm a happy camper.

Thanks Squat & Gobble! (BTW, much improvement in the last 3 years, I think it's the new staff, a lot more cleaner and better service).

They have great breakfast options. The Huevos Rancheros is my favorite. Their french toast is pretty good too.

I hope they open this cafe in Southern California so that I can go there frequently.

Went here for lunch today for the second time. The first time I came, they didn't have any more potatoes, but the table that was already here did, and I couldn't stop looking at them.. so of course, I had to come back for some! It seemed more "civilized" to just come back than to reach over and ninja-fork-swoop one of theirs. Anyways..

I just read a few other posts, and was a little surprised at the sanitation issues that people have brought up. From what I've seen, the place doesn't seem any cleaner or dirtier than Crepevine. I hate going to dirty and unsanitary looking/feeling places, but I found this place to be fine.

There's a BART station across the street, so if you take BART to get around, this might be a good place to stop off and have a bite. If you're driving, you may need to be a bit patient, because there isn't a ton of parking around S&G, but if you circle around a few times, you'll find some parking, since the spots actually turn over relatively quickly.

Today, i ordered the grilled crab melt with potatoes. The dish comes with some pickled stuff, which i didn't really care for. The potatoes were good- sliced, well seasoned, and well cooked. You may be thinking, "how can you mess up potatoes?" Well just trust me, I've been to places where they were pretty much inedible, but luckily, this wasn't one of them.

The crab melt was pretty good. I was happy with it. The bread wasn't soggy when it reached the table, and it was tasty. I wasn't so sure about the grain mustard (i just don't like mustard in general), but you could hardly taste it, and it actually added to the sandwich.

S&G was serving brunch when we came, so the gf ordered the corned beef hash. We just had to, because we were testing to see how this place stacks up against crepevine, and we really like the corned beef hash at crepevine. Very pleased to report that it's better here! The one thing I'm not quite sure if I like or not was the sauce that they put on top of the dish. While it was good, it reminded me of the sauce that came in these microwavable burritos that I used to always eat when I was young. Perhaps that's a good thing, since I always ate those burritos... lol.

Last time I came, I had the crab cake benedict (another favorite of mine from crepevine), and it's soooo much better here. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly too. The crabcakes were well seasoned, and just crispy enough- just the way I like them.

As far as service goes, there's constantly employees walking around, but I wouldn't expect them to come over and ask how your food is and such; however, it's a semi-service sort of deal here, and I wouldn't expect them to do so anyways. You order, get a number, sit, get your food, and from there on, you're pretty much on your own. If you really need anything, there's usually three to four employees or so walking around, so it's easy enough to flag someone down and get help.

I feel sort of sad about my food endeavors as of late. I've been de-throning some of my favorite restaurants with new ones lately, and I'm sad (and/or happy) to say that Squat and Gobble is replacing Crepevine for my breakfast/crepe needs.

My daughter and I went to the S&G in West Portal for a late lunch.  This was my third visit.  I love the words on the menu and the ideas it portrays.  My daughter had liked the eggs benedict on a previous visit but said the Bloody Mary was horrid, but we thought we'd give it another try.

S&G is in my neighborhood so I keep wanting to like it; but after three disapointing meals I have given up.  My daughter had a salmon omelet with a green salad side and I had a crab salad.  The seafood in both dishes was inedible and by later in the day we both simultaneously had signs of food poisoning - thank goodness there is more than one bathroom in my house.

    We're done.

Nothing yells "San Francisco" quite as much as Squat & Gobble does. The service, the ambience, the decor, the daunting amount of food served on a silly novelty-sized plate... and crepes?

I was kind of skeptical of the idea of anything other than sweet being placed into a batter of milk, eggs, flour, salt, and butter, but Squat and Gobble somehow finds a way to make it work.

My favorite here is the Tri-tip melt -- everything from the rosemary'd potatoes, the thinly sliced pickles disguised as paprika, to the cheesy meaty concoction that is the sandwich itself, make it pleasure to both the eyes and the tongue.

Oh, and the coffee here is so strong sometimes that you swear it's made of iodine. Or was it turpentine?

Located right at the West Portal Muni Station (okay.. well technically across from it), Squat and Gobble has always been on my list of places to try in SF. From what I've heard .. it's kinda like Crepevine (which I love), it's located at West Portal (where I went to school), and it has a charming environment (that a girl who grew up eating Chinese food always appreciates).

However, I expected amazingness, but I was kinda let down. The food was alright, and Crepevine was definitely better (I had the Chicken Pesto crepe and D had the crab melt). The service was pretty unfriendly. There were no smiles, no friendliness, and in all honestly, the server looked pissed. I think the only nice face I saw was a male server, who I think could be the manager or owner. He was super sweet when we asked for a box.

Yeah. Iuno. Maybe I was expecting too much. All a girl wants is to be charmed off her feet. Maybe that's too much to ask.

As a visitor to town, I was taken here for dinner. It was great, the atmosphere is fun and the menu has a great selection. The reuben that I had was excellent, tasty with plenty of meat and the bread was perfect. I really liked the potatoes that were served with it as well.

    Highly recommend!

Squat & Gobble is located on the corner of a street near the end of the Muni lines (I believe), if its not the end of the Muni lines, it a station that looks like its the end of the lines.

Came here and ordered to go for dinner, surprisingly none of the three of us ordered a type of crepe. We all ordered the different pastas. They weren't bad, but they weren't anything to write home about. For the pasta that it was, I think it was overpriced a little bit.

Not to be a hater, but they also serve Mee Goreng for $8.99, you can get Mee Goreng for way cheaper and more authentic. If I'm in the area and wanting a crepe - I might consider this place, but otherwise would mention the other restaurants in the area.

I am so sad to write this review!  This location used to be our go-to place for breakfast and brunch, but recently it has gone downhill.  We went here on Friday for a late breakfast, there were only eight other tables occupied so it certainly wasn't busy. It seemed to take forever to get our food, and when it finally came up on the counter, it just sat there.  Finally when I got up and went up to get it myself, the waiter shooed me away, saying he would get it.  After all that, the food was not up to the standard that we have come to expect.  You can tell when a diner takes pride in their food, just by the way it is placed on the plate, and it looked sloppy.  We are going to have to find another place for breakfast, hopefully in this same neighborhood.  PS My husband saw a dead mouse on his way to the men's room!!

Super yummy spot for brunch. It's kind of a take-out sit-down hybrid restaurant, where you order your food at the cash register and a waiter will bring you your dish. The menu is on this huge Whole Foods-esque blackboard along the side of the wall!

I got the crabcake florentine, which was DELICIOUS. I was afraid the crabcakes would be really bread but they weren't -- it was chockful of crab meat and had this badass spicy hollandaise sauce that brought everything together. The homefries that came with it were pretty mediocre, though.

Definitely a place you can bring your kids to. It was us and 3 other families for brunch.

    Wine selection: eh.
    Level of deliciousness: not delicious.
Cleanliness of location: get a mop.
    Speed of service: speedy.

Overall, I got a crab melt with gouda cheese.  Not sure how you can go wrong with these ingredients, but it was wrong. very wrong.  There was lots of crab in it (usually that's the problem with crab anything) and lots of cheese but it was gooey and very liquid throughout.  The toast was nothing famous.  The french fries were thin and crispy with some italian parsley, but it was like mcdonalds french fries with herbs.

Luckily my bf and I are fun and we had a good time anyways, but we definitely will not return to try anything else.  Bummer, because I have heard great things before the visit.

Literally next to the West Portal Muni, I think of it as a nice brunch place, but that's really about it. The food is so-so, in my opinion, with a diverse set of crepe styles, but still over-priced. Seemingly crowded all the time, but definitely not worth the wait. I've been a fan of the crab cake florentine, as well as some of the savory crepes, but it's nothing that screams a revisiting. It could really work on being more affordable, as well as more unique as a creperie.

The service is pretty okay here. Some points of note:

Fresh sqeezed oj is really good here
The crab salad is not good, canned crab, albeit dungeness it's mostly body bites, doesn't taste very fresh, and you get the occasional thin shell pieces because it's a lot body pieces.
Also, the iceberg lettuce was pretty soggy.

The eggs florentine was actually kind of bad, but the potato pieces with it were okay.

I hear the crepes are pretty good though.

I'll give this place another try.

Good spot for a brunch.  Mimics the likes of Crepevine restaurants (order at the counter, place you number on a table, and they serve you as soon as the food is ready).

Had the crab cake florentine (pretty good - poached eggs were a little overdone though), potatoes or home fries were nice (crispy outside, soft inside), the "sweet as apple pie crepe" with a scoop of vanilla bean (fav of the brunch), the prime rib melt (tasty), and two eggs sunnyside up with applewood smoked bacon and fruit (they did the eggs perfectly).

Friendly and attentive staff always makes sure that  your coffee cup is always full (a big plus).  I fully recommend coming by if you are in the West Portal area.

coffee is like other posters have said... just meh, however where I thought Squat and Gobble shines is the food.  I just recently had the eggs florentine and it was amazing and the portion size was huge.  Not the best breakfast joint I have had, but a solid effort nevertheless.  One improvement I can immediately see is the lack of WiFi.  This location is on some prime real estate and would get a big business boost if WiFi were available.

Food has gone a bit down since I've been here last. A disappointment to say the least.

I ordered a gobble club (turkey cranberry) sandwich and it was eh. When my order came it was warm-ish. The aioil in the cranberry definitely made it taste a little better but not all that much. I'm really sad. I usually enjoy my meals here, but it was bland, very bland. Eh.

Next time I might skip the sandwich and go for a crepe..

    TGI Fridays meets breakfast.

What happened? This place used to be like the other Squat and Gobbles, but blech! It has now been sanitized of any color or "San Francisan-ness" that was once there. Granted, West Portal is no cultural mecca, but this place now has cheesy laminated menus and a robotic team of "servers," order takers, and bussers who speak only in a scripted, Stepford-like manner. Our entire experience was automated, rushed and lacked any flavor to make it worth returning.

Speaking of flavor, the only flavor present in the Fruity Nutella crepe was a too-sweet, very-artificial strawberry sauce that overpowered the entire dish. Mediterranen crepe also had an overdose of cheap pesto, though the few veggies within - notably the eggplant - were decently cooked. Salad was overdressed and soggy.

And one other small gripe: Their serving plates are far too large for the dainty two-top tables.  We had to send a dish back to be put on a smaller plate so it would fit on our table. Clueless.

I'm still willing to go back and try the Haight Street store again, in hopes that the West Portal location was just sold off to some clueless businessman from Mountain View or Burlingame and hasn't the foggiest idea what SF diners want.

Update:  We came back here with a group of 10 people before Santacon 2011.  This sounds like a nightmare in the making right?  Well, generally, in my experience, large group parties usually equal a negative Yelp review.  This time was very different.  They totally made it work, at the prime breakfast/brunch time too.  Everything came out according to ordering time.  Everything was delicious and we didn't have any complaints.  What makes things super easy is that you pay first so there's no splitting the bill confusion later.  Genius!

Squat & gobble had me coming back almost every week. I have tried a variety of different dishes here and some of my favorite are the prime rib sandwiches, south of the boarder omelet, belgium waffles, rosemary patatos, denver crepe. Fresh orange juice, and great coffee. I suggest going for early breakfast or dinner.

Out of options and in the area - this is where I and a couple of buddies ended up. I got the eggless tofu scramble. "Spinach, onions, mushrooms and tofu sautéed in peanut sauce and served with potatoes and choice of toast." Can't expect much in terms of flavor with a dish like that, but I'm well aware. I just thought the peanut sauce would help. Not so, because they literally serve you with a ramekin of what could possibly only be peanuts and water thrown into a blender. What's worse is that the entire dish is soaked in this stuff. Good thing the toast was served on a separate plate. After eating a nauseating portion of the scramble [about a quarter], I just stuck to the toast.
My friend had the eggs benedict - which was really poached eggs topped with liquefied mayonnaise masquerading as hollandaise sauce. My other friend got the Huevos Rancheros - no complaints, but he'll eat anything when he's that hungry.
We were seated right next to the restrooms and subsequently easily forgotten. It took varying intervals of about fifteen-twenty minutes to get our order, get a refill of water, another ten for coffee, and eventually... the check. Spent more time there than necessary and they weren't even busy. The table was sticky with remnants of the syrup or juice spilled by the customer who occupied the table beforehand. Agh, you gotta be kidding me. Two stars for effort.

I took my cousin here because we were craving crepes and it was walking distance from us.

I have never been particularly impressed with food from Squat & Gobble. I have been told before that the crepes from there are THE BEST but I beg to differ.

The service is nice enough. It took forever to cook a simple crepe though. And the crepe wasn't even that good.

We ordered the Fresh Strawberries crepe (strawberries, brown sugar, cinnamon). Quality wise, it was fine. They used good ingredients but the overall taste was poor and it wasn't that satisfying. I think it would have been better with nutella but that wasn't an option for us because my cousin is allergic to nuts. That was actually the only crepe on the menu that didn't have nut related products in it (aside from the savory crepes and the ricotta cheese one).

Anyway, I think this place is okay. I don't hate it here, but I've never been impressed with the food or anything.

The Husband and I are a bit divided on Squat and Gobble. His allegiance belongs to Crepevine, which I understand, but I don't think that means I can't love Squat and Gobble too. After all, it's closer to home and for the first few weeks we lived in West Portal, I ate there about once a day because it was consistently good and not too expensive. Also I love the vat of hot chocolate I'd get most of the time when I ordered. Once I got a tiny mug and it really threw me, since most of the time, the hot chocolate came in what seemed to be a 12 or 16 oz cup.

My favourite crepe is pretty basic--the Florentine, I think it is. It comes with a pile of veggies and potatoes and makes a fairly large meal. When you are unemployed (no longer--but I was when I first moved back) and job hunting, a nice large meal in the middle of the day can go a long way. And one needs those energy reserves for trotting up and down hills.

Things I didn't like about Squat and Gobble: At peak times, their system of ordering can leave you in a line out the door. Maybe this isn't so bad in the Lower Haight (although they have further to the counter too) but in the West Portal microclimate, you're left standing around in the gathering mist, and that starts to get a leetle chilly.

Things Squat and Gobble could improve on: I swear I remember that the Lower Haight location had more lower priced sweet crepes. West Portal doesn't even have the lemon and sugar crepe. Maybe this is because they ran out of blackboard space? Must investigate.

decent setting for a semi-self service crepe/sandwich shop, I came here on a weekday afternoon for a quick bite, the place is not too crowded and relatively clean.

The chicken pesto crepe is of good quantity, the crepe is not quite like they have it @ Crepe-a-gogo or Maxine's, but pretty decent.

I do however, like the large quantity of salad they served, and the chicken breast sandwich looks pretty good for the price of less than $10 too. I think it's a fairly decent place to stop for casual lunch.

Lots of great choices for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dessert, dinner. I had the Challah French Toast which was served with whipped cream that turned out to be quite good. I saw some very good looking mussels and clams spaghetti dishes others were having and made a note to come back.

The space was with high ceiling and spacious that makes it airy and not congested. Also like the fact that it's open all day so that you can sit there and enjoy a late brunch in an afternoon in leisure.

Service was good and was not rushed. Totally an enjoyable experience.

I went here last weekend because I wanted to go to a yummy breakfast place with outdoor seating so I could bring our dog along.  The restaurant itself wasn't very full on a Saturday afternoon, but there was still a pretty long line 6-7 people deep.  My bf sat outside with our dog and I placed the order.

I ordered the crab cake florentine and he ordered the prime rib melt, but he HATES onions and swiss cheese and asked for the onions to be taken out and substitute with any other cheese.  What was annoying when I came up to order was that they don't allow substitutions or modifications.  They said that their food was pre-made so he was basically S.O.L. and had to order something else.  I had to get out of line and go outside to ask him what he'd like to do.  He ended up sucking it up and getting it anyway, but what kind of restaurant doesn't allow any modifications?  Maybe if this was a 3 michelin restaurant with world class chefs or something, but cmon, it's just a crepe/cafe chain in front of a noisy muni station.

The crab cake florentine was very good because I love eggs benedict and I love crab cakes, but I have definitely had better crab cakes elsewhere.  The potatoes were ok, but a little mushy on the inside and a little burnt on the outside.  The bf's prime rib melt was DELICIOUS after he had to pull out all the slimy onions out.  Very flavorful.

Overall, the food was pretty good but it was pretty annoying that all their food is pre-made, which means no substitutions or modifications.  Also, I don't suggest eating outside because this Squat and Gobble location is right in front of a super loud muni station.

    My new love!

Came here twice within the past two weeks! Usually when I'm eating with my teammate, we like to venture out and try different places.

I ordered the belgian waffle.... __ I'm in love. I've been searching for a breakfast/brunch place that serves belgian waffles. It brings me back to my vacation in Las Vegas. Oh... Las Vegas. Teammate ordered the triple gobble. Food comes out pretty quickly the last two times I came.

My belgian waffle came with a heaping of strawberries and blueberries, a cute little orange, and whipped cream on the side! Man, was my belgian waffle good. Teammate had the triple gobble which consists of pancakes, sausages and eggs. The pancakes were really good and didn't have that weird taste to it.

I'd come here every morning if I could, haha.

I had their crab benedict, it was pretty good. decent amount of crab but i wish there was more crab so the flavor is more obvious.

i did not like their potatoes though, tasted a bit burnt, and did not have much flavor.

Quite tasty. The quality of the crepe and the freshness of the fillings seemed above the average for the various lookalike crepe places about town (ohhh, how I miss Ti Couz, but that's a tangent).

The filling was not greasy at all, something that I've encountered at the Other Crepe Places. (I had spinach, cheddar, and chicken breast).

You don't get potatoes and salad like you do at the Other Place, but they do give you a choice of fruit, fries, or soup, which is nice. I had the fruit and appreciated the generous helping of strawberries.

There was a fly that kept pestering my table, but I'm forgiving about that sort of thing.

Minus a star (was going to give them 4) because I just remembered that the salad selection is kind of lacking. The Other Places have better choices in that department.

    (beatbox please)

Came here in the morning with a party of three,
Order upfront and paid the necessary fee.

Its quite expensive though I would have to say,
After tax and tip (~$11) I could be eating at a buffet.

We got the Italian, Polynesian and BBQ chicken crepe,
They arrived at our table in a half circle shape.

Taste and flavor of all three were fresh and hot,
For brunch, I think this place is a decent spot.

Nothing too amazing, but I might come again,
Trying something different could improve my six out of ten.

    OBSESSED.

Seriously used to go here almost every day. If the prices were a little cheaper.. I WOULD have gone every day.

Not only do they have crepes, omlettes, salads, sandwiches, pastas and so much more but it's all delicious... Seriously I don't think I have had a bad meal yet! Although it is a bit on the pricey side you'll get a lot of food and can always take it home with you.

My favorite dish is the fuscilli pasta with salmon. Seriously sooo good, but everything there is so delicious including the desserts.

I know the name is silly and everyone i take here calls it something even sillier cause they can't remember, but just remember this one thing... All you have to do when you get here is Squat and Gobble.

Whenever I'm in San Francisco I make sure to go to this place. Awesome omelettes, salads, and fresh squeezed orange juice.  LOVE the salmon salad. The staff is also really friendly. Great place for a casual breakfast/lunch.

I come here because it's close to my house.

I always get the salmon cobb salad.

Their service is shotty, never consistent. Sometimes they get my order mixed up, sometimes it doesn't even come, sometimes I get a hair in my food... BUT... sometimes they're on point, sometimes they're quick to refill my water, and sometimes they're pretty attentive. You never know.

I only go back for that cobb salad. Lately I've been ordering it to go because my dine-in experiences haven't been up to par.

I ordered the tripple gobble with a side of fruit salad.

For the most part, it was good.
    Pancakes were perfectly cooked.
The chicken-apple sausages were flavorful and not burnt.
The sunny side up eggs were perfectly sunny side up.

However, the plate looked a little sad.
Something about two palm sized pancakes, two slim weiners, and a splatter of eggs didn't quite seem to live up to a fancy name like "tripple gobble."
Also, the fruit salad tasted watery, like it's been sitting there for a day or so. Probably won't be ordering that again.

Would I go back? You bet'cha!

    Gobble Gobble.

Update: On my second visit, there was a fly's wing on my Crab Cake Florentine... I think it was mixed into that paprika stuff they sprinkle ontop of the eggs... they were nice enough to refund my money.. however, one of the waiters insisted it was "potato skin." Ummmm. I think not.

Went here with friends cause we haven't tried this place yet. It was recommended by a friend.

I ordred a crepe because I was superly craving one, but after I saw my friend's massive omelette, I regretted it. The crepe was delicious, but not worth my buck. I had berries and nutella. The omelette was huuuge and savory! If I come again (perhaps to the Chestnut St. location), I would order an omelette.

The seats were comfortable; their bathrooms were nice; their decor was nice as well.

Oh! How I miss thee!!! This is one of my favorite places to have breakfast.  The French Toast is to die for - from the butter, the whip creme, and the warm syrup is just the best.  The Eggs Florentine is another favorite of mine.

I haven't tried the Huevos Rancheros yet but I am sure they are just as good.

The mimosa's are a perfect addition to the yummy breakfast! Served with a starwberry!!!

I want to be eating there now!!!

This place was "just OK". The ordering system was confusing as none of the 13 people behind the counter came to the register for a good 5 minutes while we stood there. I was under the impression after about 3 of those minutes that maybe we were supposed to sit down? Anyway - someone finally came up and asked for our order. It was a little pricey. 2 burgers and 2 cokes for $30? Come on now...

We take a seat outside, which was beautiful. They earned a full star for ambiance. The day was not one to be wasted so we enjoyed the plentiful outdoor seating Squack had to offer. The waiter comes out with our drinks and takes another 5 minutes to bring back sugar for my iced tea. He apologized for the delay...but..... after our food was delivered, we never saw anyone again. We were both out of drinks and no one came back to refill.

The food was good. It wasn't "wowie!" but it was definitely tasty. The bun was exceptional and the meat was seasoned well. I don't think I'll be coming back to this place after the service. Come on, Squat and Gooble- you guys have ALL of the ingredients for a kick ass restaurant. Let's get it together with the service side of things.
