Great shop to put together the ultimate gift for a beer lover. Not a place to buy your everyday beers. Love their selection of other small producer grocery products (fyi...to sell beer in NYC you have to be a grocer, hence the other products).
Check out more at my blog (see my profile).
Both times I have been in this closet sized store, I have not had a pleasant experience.
The first time I was looking for La Fin Du Monde, and was told condescendingly that it was "a bodega beer around here". Perhaps pointing out a comparable triple would have made sense, but what do I know I don't sell beer.
Today, I was in the store for a few minutes looking around all the shelves, attempting to make eye contact with the woman at the counter but I suppose the paper was far more interesting than trying to make a sale but again what do I know about selling alcohol?
Great location, terrible service, cramped store, reasonable selection. All in all a 1 star review.
A nice little shop with a friendly, knowledgeable sales rep/cashier dude who's got to know his sh*t because he's been to Oktoberfest in Germany. OK, maybe that means nothing, but he claims that everything he carries is awesome, so you won't make a poor selection here. From a cursory look, I am inclined to agree. If you're looking for hoity-toity beer (I always am), this is good place. But it is pricey, so be prepared to pay for your quality product (not something some beer drinkers are willing to do). They also carry fancy pickles and other gourmet items. I am curious to try the $17 essence of lavender. Might perk up the Heineken. The location is also pretty neat, I suppose, what with all the hipster-friendly shops and cafes in the same mini-mall.
Great selection of beers, chocolates, and sundry items.

This is a great beer shop. It's like a gift shop for Spuyten Duyvil the bar! It's a little pricey but that's just the nature and rarity of their selection. Also, if you're in the bar and see a bottle off their bottle list that you want to try but it's a bit out of your price range just stick with the draft beer for the night and head over to the grocery the next day where you can find the same beer for half the price usually. If you're ever looking for a gift of beer or want to treat yourself once the economy picks up (or when your unemployment application gets approved) then this is the place to go.
The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, always willing to talk about new beers they've gotten in and give you lots of suggestions. There are a lot of beers in here and it can be intimidating, especially on your first trip, so don't hesitate to ask them to explain something or suggest something for you to try. Life's an adventure and Spuyten Duyvil Grocery is like a Choose Your Own Adventure book, except I promise none of your choices will lead to death or dismemberment. I've never been disappointed with a beer they've pointed me to.
In addition to beer they have a neat little grocery operation going filled with local artisan treats like Mast Bros. chocolate, Ricks Picks canned things and that brand of chocolate that makes it with bacon in it. You can never go wrong with bacon. Especially when it's surrounded by chocolate in a shop filled floor to ceiling with great and hard to come by beers from all over the world.
fucking amazing selection of beers. I went there once not knowing they had closed a half hour earlier but the guy still let me get what I needed.
Awesome place, and an amazing selection of bitters.

Another fine establishment from our good friends at Spuyten Duyvil.
If you want obscure and odd beers, this is by far the place to check out. Routinely, things will pass through here that I have never seen before and never see again when it is all gone. Fairly nice balance of styles and country representation (England, U.S., Belgium being the most represented).
Beyond beer there are several nice food items to choose from. And if you are looking for a nice gift for someone, there is a load of glassware in here, including some really interesting antique stuff. This place is not too far from the Beford stop on the L.
So if you are hitting Williamsburg up and want some beers to take home (this is a store, not a bar), it's easy to get to. Just know that the prices can be steep. (You get what you pay for)
Open from 1 'til 9, but closed on Monday.
i bought some farmhouse beer that was out of season was really good, if i had a little more coin i'd be back here more often, i wish they had some less expensive beers worth checking out.
