I love Spuds! Great view, friendly staff, and, most importantly, excellent food. They serve a unique selection of soups, sandwiches, and desserts during the day and inventive main courses in the evening. For example: a grilled cheese-style chile relleno on sourdough with a side of roasted tomato soup.
Perhaps, unlike others, I don't find the ordering system odd at all. In fact, I like it. Pretty simple... wait in line (if there is one), order what you want, pay, sit and wait for it to be served, eat, and leave when you're ready!
A favorite: Mediterranean Caesar salad w/grilled chicken.
I don't give many five-star reviews, but I cannot think of a single complaint about the food here. -

Food is delish and the selection is plentiful. I really like the fresh, tasty sandwiches. Had a turkey sandwich [nice dressing and delicious roll] with a Moose Drool Beer.
I asked about the Portuguese Gazpacho's ingredients and got an
" I'm not sure" answer. Would have been helpful if she had followed up with "Let me find out".
Enjoyed the view on the patio and our waitress was friendly and helpful.
Now if the staff can learn the answers to "What's in the soup?" I'd be even happier. -

I have to echo what many reviewers mention regarding the strange ordering system. The line wasn't bad when I was there, but it was kind of annoying to have to repeat a fairly long order a few minutes after giving it to the kitchen staff in order to pay. Other than that service was friendly but not very involved other than bringing out the food.
Sandwiches and salads were quite tasty, as was the tomato soup. The turkey wasn't deli style as I imagined, but rather was a larger, thicker chunk with some spicy rub on the edges. The caesar salad was very flavorful and I'd highly recommend it. Nice place for a relatively quick and healthy bite to eat. -

Spud's is one of those places I seem to walk by quite a bit but only occasionally visit. The few times I've been in I've been satisfied with the food and service, but for some reason it always takes a while for me to get around to getting back in.
I think a big part of what keeps me walking is the ordering format - you queue up like a deli counter, place your order at the window, get your beverages and pay for your order further down the counter, then your food is brought out to you when it's ready. The other down side to the system is that there is almost always a line to place your order, which sometimes cruises right along and other times really drags.
I dunno. The whole process feels very fast food-ish and a complete mismatch for the otherwise classy America's Cup-inspired interior. If the restaurant was a little more casual like their wonderful deck overlooking the Sand Creek marina it probably won't feel so odd.
As you might guess from their name, their signature dishes revolve around potatoes and rotisserie-roasted chicken and turkey. I personally go for their sandwiches most often; my favorite is the Capistrano. They also have a decent little selection of local and regional beer and wine to go with your meal, or to enjoy a glass while you wait for your to go order.
If you don't mind the ordering system, Spud's seems to be a pretty good bet. And judging by the line up out the door at peak meal times, it's pretty evident that a lot of people don't mind the system at all.Listed in: On the Road - West, Explore Sandpoint (Idaho)!

When Spud's is firing on all cylinders it can be the best restaurant in Sandpoint. If you happen to catch it when it's not, Spud's can be the worst restaurant ever...
It's a really finicky place.
The food is great. I really enjoy the Southwest Veggie Sandwhich with a cup of tortilla soup. If you can get in there before a huge crowd, the atmosphere isn't too bad either. All the staff is pretty friendly and helpful (and I'm not a local).
Having said that, I have experienced Spud's when they're out of everything on the menu and little fuckers with attitudes.
Go here for lunch before the rush and keep a low profile.
I'll be back... -

Sandpoint, Idaho: it's fun to drive the boat from Bottle Bay on Lake Pend Oreille to Sandpoint and go up Sand Creek to the restaurant. It's a cafeteria style set-up with limited outdoor tables...

Pretty good, but I have to hold back a little bit here.
We started with wings, which were very tasty. Especially when compared to Mickduff's wings, which are pretty...well, just barely average. These were big - huge drumsticks and whole wings, with plenty of meat and nice grilled flavor to them. Sauce was just the same old (but nothing wrong with that) and really good thick blue cheese.
My entree was a piece of nice salmon with roasted red pepper aoli, veggies and a halved potato, dusted with cheese. The salmon was tasty, but a little too dry. If it has been a tad less done, it would have been moist and flaky and really quite good. The veggies were quite oily...but again, tasty, and the potato was quite dry. So...everything was good. But all could have been better.
The brownie addict in our group had to order one for desert, and it was tasty, but on a personal preference level, it could have been chewier. Mickduff's may lose on wings, but they crushed Spuds in the brownie round.
This is worth a visit. The menu looked good, and other diners were happy. I just felt it could have been improved upon. -

Great soup, salad, and service! My favorite for for lunch. They have five rotating kinds of soup and update the list daily on the website.

We ate at Spud's twice on a 3 day trip to Sandpoint - its good! TONS of vegetarian options and quite a few vegan choices. Although the waitress seem like they have better things to do than be there, the staff behind the counter were friendly and helpful.

We were disappointed with our visit. The one positive thing about it was the staff was friendly during our order. We spent too much for lunch and left hungry (we eat small portions at home). Sandwich was very basic with nothing much on them. Turkey tasted pretty good. Soup was tasty but came in a small cup that only held about 5 spoonfulls. They nickel and dime you on charging for extra potato toppings. After delivery of our food, we never saw a server again. We wanted soda refills but no one ever came by to check on us and suspected they would have charged us for them anyway. Overpriced for what you get. We won't return.

A great place for soups, salads, sandwiches and roasted chicken. The roast beef sandwich is delicious with a dill mayonnaise and jack cheese. Service is you order at a counter and then they deliver it to your table. Problem is it is a pain because you order with one person at a counter, then repeat your order to the cashier at another counter. Why do I have to repeat my own order? Soups are hit and miss. I tried a Cream of Garlic soup that lacked any flavor, even the roasted garlic failed to make it's flavor known in this soup.

This is a yummy spot. Perfect after a day of skiing or playing on the lake. Don't let the name fool you. Yes there are great baked potatoes with a variety of toppings but everything is good and fresh. I usually get a specialty sandwich and homemade soup. Okay, now I'm hungry.

The sandwiches and soup at Spud's are fantastic! The turkey club sandwich consists of rotisserie roasted turkey, fresh cooked bacon, fresh tomatoes and lettuce, and basil mayo. Easily, the best sandwich I've ever had anywhere. The soup was also top notch. The honest truth is that after living in San Francisco for six years - I've still not found a sandwich as good as this in the Bay Area. Moreover, I have no doubt in my mind that a sandwich like this would cost about $3-$4 more in San Francisco (my soup and sandwich combo was about $8 with an upgrade on the size of the soup). Oh, and the word on the streets is that the potatoes are also fantastic here.

Service here is terrible. Waitress seemed like she had eight things better to do than to give me the time of day. They looked at me strangely when I walked in by myself (I'm a business traveler) and then promptly they sat me away from all the other guests in the restaurant in a corner of the bar and then ignored me. Not super impressed with the food, either. Won't go back.

Great sandwiches and salads. I had the chicken club sandwich and a cup of tomato basil bisque. The chicken was an actual slice of breast meat with thick cut bacon slices on a fresh baked, soft roll. The bisque was equally tasty with a nice sprinkle of parm on top. Service is great and the tables outside have a nice view of the marina and mountain.

Spud's has been my go-to lunchplace in Sandpoint for years. I always make it a point to visit when I am home.
I struggle between 4 and 5 stars because the sandwiches and potatoes during lunch are a 5. However the dinner menu is often a 4 for me.
I highly suggest the capistrano sandwich it is dynamite! Literally it has a spicy kick to it. So maybe ask for the mayo on the side if you're a little timid about the heat.
