Finally I stopped for some spudnuts! I wanted to see how these potato flour donuts differed from wheat flour donuts. Answer: Virtually no difference. The good news: these donuts are as good as any you'll find: top-notch!
FOOD & DRINK: I tried a glazed, an icing-topped cruller and a glazed cruller to see what difference potato flour might make. I think they might be slightly more dense, and on the iced cruller I think I detected a flavor similar to a slice of potato bread. I don't think the difference in flours makes a difference. But you can drop into a Spudnuts shop with no fear: they are tasty, tasty, tasty!
SERVICE: Efficient, friendly AMBIANCE/ATMOSPHERE: Standard donut shop

I stumbled across this place after missing my exit on the 10 Freeway, and it took me a while to remember where I heard the name before recalling that the Food Network featured Spudnuts' industry-unique use of potato flour in one of their segments. The sugar-craving fat kid inside me went giddy with joy and vowed to return the next morning to pick up a doughnut before work. Whatever the fat kid wants, the fat kid gets, I'll tell you hwhat! Next morning, I went in to Spudnut and picked up my go-to pastry whenever testing out a new doughnut joint: raspberry jelly-filled 'nut (aka the Raza-Filled).
Before I give the spud-flour cake a review, let's rewind a bit. I came home and looked up reviews for Spudnuts to see if it's anything special (not like the reviews would have matter, anyway). Some people said the potato flour didn't have any effect on the doughnut's overall flavor, so I wasn't expecting my mind to be blown away the next morning.
Let's fast forward to present time (present as of this morning). I ripped the doughnut in half to check out the filling because the doughnut connoisseur inside me is very particular about the fruit jelly. Jelly -- no fruit mixed in -- just plain old jelly, like the ones a person can buy at the grocery store. I was disappointed, but then I took a small bite of the doughnut. THERE IS A DIFFERENCE, DAG NABBIT, THERE IS A DIFFERENCE! Spudnut's cake had a certain depth to its flavor, where as traditional doughnuts tend to have a one-note kind of sweetness to them regardless of how light-handed the baker may have been with the sugar. On a textural note, the doughnut was light and airy and held its own to jelly.
I quickly shoved the other half back into the paper bag in hopes of saving it for later. No such luck. I tried to resist but reached for the other half within a minute of finishing the first. Yeah, it's THAT good. I would have given Spudnut 5 stars had the raspberry jelly tasted homemade and had actual berries. -

Years ago in Ohio I tried my first @spudnutsdonuts . It was a lighter, fluffier donut than any I tried before or since.
I'm no connoisseur of donuts but I'm telling you, the spud nuts were different.
Fast forward like 15 years and SHAZAAM! I live near LA! Of course there were extended stops along the way in Boulder, Boston and Phoenix but that's another conversation altogether.
Anyway, there are Spud Nuts here! So I got me some! They were not as good as I remembered but that could be because I was there 'round midnight... -

Fantastic cinnamon rolls! Five stars on that alone. The cashier lady is friendly but I'm knocking a star off for the fact that they don't take credit and the crappy ATM inside is a total rip-off.

Service: The guy who assisted us was very nice; he was making jokes and such. We're a fan of this place because of the homey atmosphere.
Donuts: I assume that the donut would taste kind of different because they use potato flour but one wouldn't really notice the difference unless one really, really try. Nevertheless, the donuts were fresh and cheap so 4 stars! -

Aw nuts. You got me with them studly spuds. Donuts made with potato flour? Hm, interesting.
Decided to come here at night to grab some after my roomie raved about this place. Oh spudnuts, yall know how to make some donuts!
I got:
Big bear claws with apple ($1.15)
Cinnamon Roll ($1.15)
Regular chocolate with custard (90 cents)
Regular glazed (I believe 90 cents)
Total was less than $5. The ginormous bear claws and cinnamon rolls are huge, they were bigger than Terry Crews boobs! The bigger the better right?
Tte big bear claw was delicious with a glaze frosting on top and some crumbles toppled over. Once you bite in that bad boy, it has a apple pie filling in there that fulfills your sweet tooth hard. The cinnamon roll was just a-ok, nothing like them hot fresh cinnabons!
My favorite was the regular chocolate with custard. Mmm...once you bite into that bad boy, it's like you found a sweet treasure of pudding custard! It's nothing like a gourmet donut, but It was late night and it still tasted very fresh. Maybe it's something to do with them potato spuds. Who knows.
Overall, cheap and fresh donuts and I will be going back for more when I'm getting that donut craving.
Fyi: It's $5 for a half dozen regular donuts! -

Yay! I had almost lost hope in LA donuts after my attempts to enjoy Doughnut House donuts, but these were exactly how they were supposed to be. The apple fritter was crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, and it actually had apples, unlike the one at Doughnut House. And the chocolate raised... tasted like a chocolate raised donut. Perfect! Plus the guy at the front is super friendly, but not in the way that makes you uncomfortable.

I have to show some love to this place. I've been struggling to find a donut place where the donuts have a unique flavor. It seems everyone is using the same generic ingredients, and everything tastes the same. Luckily I came across this place through yelp. I love the glaze donuts here, they have a unique taste and they don't make me sick after eating a couple like winchell's. A bonus is the little middle aged asian dude who mans the counter. He's super friendly and cool. Sometimes he tries to hustle me into buying more donuts(in a joking way ofcourse) and we riff off each other, funny stuff.

Spudnuts Donuts is a short walk away from my apartment. That's a dangerous thing, and it's causing all sorts of problems for my diet.
On the flip side, everytime I want comfort food or a reward for a hard workout, this is the place I will go to. The donuts are absolutely unique, meaning, they're HUGE! Not only that, they're inventive. I love the hybrid crossaint/donuts filled with custard, and the donuts with chocolate chips on top. You'll find the selection so vividly appealing and broad, it won't be long before you realize this is unlike your typical donut shop.
The best part is, they're open 24 hours, so you can get your fix anytime. Drunk or sober, happy or sad. They really do want to make America fat, don't they? -

Well, where do I begin...I don't buy donuts too often...don't get me wrong, they're indulgent, delicious, and deep fried (the latter I must say adds to the first two...), but I just don't get the craving for them often. My personal preference for food like this comes from small mom and pop shops (no offense to Dunkin, Krispie Kreme, Winchell's, etc. or any fans of theirs) and although I know that Spudnuts is a chain, it still feels like a mom and pop.
Suffice to say, I didn't even know this place was here until I moved to this side of town and happened to notice on my way to work one morning. I had heard about it on Travel Channel or Food Network or some other of my too-oft food viewings, and had to see if the much talked-about potato flour based dough was as good as people had said. Much to my delight when I walked in this morning (this isn't my first trip in, but I haven't been in for a while until today), not a single empty spot in the display case. So I picked up my usual, a half dozen donut holes, a maple old fashioned, and a glazed buttermilk bar...and I gotta say, I've never found another place for a more tender donut. That'd be the potato flour's doing...
They don't shoot for customers who want a fancy shmancy over the top donut, and I'm glad for that. They serve all the basics, from basic cake donuts to the infamous "raised glazed" to maple bars and old fashioned. They even have HUMONGOUS bear claws and cinnamon rolls if the donuts don't suit your fancy. Everything I've ever tried from here has been great, all with the same tender chewiness imparted by the potato dough.
Service is great, and although it's cash only, unless you don't carry any cash at all, you probably won't be spending more than a couple bucks unless you're buying a huge amount. Parking isn't all that great, as this particular location is located in a small corner strip along with a chinese take-out, a salon, and a fatburger...all sharing 7 or 8 parking spots.
They also have sandwhiches, coffee, tea, hot chocolate (as any decent donut shop would, right?) and a selection of sodas both from the fountain and in cans and bottles, and energy drinks. All in all, a great little spot to stop by on the way to work or on the way home from work...
Enjoy the potato flour...you might not go to another run of the mill shop once you've tried it... -

I've been wanting to check this place out after Food Network profiled the Spudnuts chain as the donut store that makes their donuts from potato flour!
I tried both the glazed and the cake. They seem to have a more creamy and rich texture than a standard flour donut, especially the cake one. The difference is subtle, but if you're a foodie with a sophisticated palette (like moi), then you'll notice it too. :P
It's a cheap little indulgece at 0.75 each and the little asian lady in the back is really friendly too. So pick up some donuts here after you get your empanada fix at Empanada Place across the street! -

Fresh, tender, sweet and delicious! Family-owned doughnuttery is the perfect stop for a potluck-bound gal-on-the-go. I purchased a dozen and the awesome doughnut guy threw in at least 4 or 5 freebies; total came to around $7.00. They have mini-cream puffs for super cheap, if a cream-puff hankering captures you. The clerk kindness takes them from regular doughnuttery to singular doughnuttery.

Go here just for their apple fritters. I have not found any other to compare. Crispy and brown on the outside with a soft middle. Their other items are good too, but not worth a special trip like their apple fritters. Yes, they get a 4 just for their fritters. Location and decor, eh.

After leaving Donut King down the street cuz they failed to tell us that NONE of the donuts we picked for our dozen counted in the $5.99 price and not wanting to pay $15 for a dozen donuts, we swung by Spudnuts. I'd never been there before and I will now never go anywhere else. Not only were the donuts super delicious but the lady working there was the nicest woman ever! She was this sweet lady who helped us pick out our dozen and was sure to let us know which donuts were a little extra.
The apple fritters were superb, the french were yummy and the blueberry jelly filled sounded amazing but I didn't get to find out cuz my roommate ate it. Another reason to return!
Prices, by the way, totally reasonable. And when I went in the evening, she threw in some extra yummies for me. I love Spudnuts!Listed in: My Neighborhood

I remember seeing spudnuts on foodnetwork a long time ago, but I believe back then they were in Seattle. One day I was driving by and saw the sign. Unless it's free, I will not eat a donut from anywhere else. They are sooooo good. I've yet to try one with a custard filling. As I live a little ways away, they're always gone when I get there. So far my favorites are the cinnamon roll and buttermilk.

Normally a cash only place would turn me off but I'll make an exception for 24 hours of awesomeness. Come on, secretly you've always wished someone would take the brilliance of potato bread rolls and turn them into baked goods. Ta-da! They have. Doughy goodness in every sugary bite, the cinnamon roll is my favorite. Yes, all cream filled donuts rock, and buttery croissants never disappoint, bear claws, why not? but the cinnamon roll, oh the cinnamon roll. This is the stuff dreams are made of. I've seen two people who work here, though there may be more, and they are always friendly and helpful. I'd probably be happy, too, if I could eat as many donuts as I wanted all day long.

Oh Spudnut Donuts, how I want to love you!
I usually prefer my donuts fancy, like the fresh strawberry at Donut Man or the peanut banana at Stan's, but every once in awhile nothing hits the spot like a simple, glazed donut. Or maybe a chocolate raised donut.
I've driven by Spudnut many, many times. It was only finding out they are made of potatoes that finally got me in the door. Well, that and the desire for a "simple" donut.
The service was just as great as everyone else has mentioned. I think I've probably bumped my review up 1/2 to 1 star based solely on how nice the man at the counter was.
I tried a chocolate-iced raised, a coconut raised, and a buttermilk glazed. I started with the chocolate-iced. It was not the light and fluffy experience I expect from a raised donut. Actually, it more like a cake donut (I really don't like cake donuts). Later, I tried the coconut. It was...better. Not great, but better. And it's hard to go wrong when you smother anything in coconut. Lastly, I tried the buttermilk. Of the three, this was the winner. But overall, Spudnuts are a super heavy, filling donut. -

The owners are incredible, they are like my surrogate parents. Always happy and give me incredible service. I live walking distance and visit about once a day at least.
The doughnuts are incredible, and it makes it really hard not to have one all the time. The #7 (Tuna on bagel) takes a while to make, but its INCREDIBLE. I have one just about every other day, but again, it takes a while to make from scratch.
The drinks are a bit overpriced but there selection and service really make up for it. -

GIGANTIC BEAR CLAWS!!!!
i luv their GIGANTIC BEAR CLAWS!!! it's probably best if you share with someone b/c its so GIGANTIC!!! but i tend to eat the whole thing by myself, which makes me feel like a fatass, o wells, i'm a growing man (growing sideways tho). donuts are made of potato flours, which i have no what kind of difference it makes, but they are good tho. i usually come here if im craving for desert after dinner or on saturday morning when i feel like having breakfast. the lady n the man behind the counter are both very nice and friendly. parking is kinda a pain in the you know where b/c the plaza is kinda small and its located on busy streets. if they can somehow improve their parking, i might just come everyday, which might not be the best idea for my weight =)
so if ur craving for some donuts in the area, come to spudnuts, pretty sure u'll be happy with it. n make sure you get the GIGANTIC BEAR CLAWS!!! -

This place is great! The donuts are always fresh (maybe it's because of the potato flour?) and the service is just as good. I've only been here a few times but both times I looked in my bag when I got home and had an extra donut that I didn't order. The little lady behind the counter is so nice.

Ah, yes...Spudnuts #4. Evidently, their donuts are made from potatoes, thus the name. I was skeptical, but I have to say that it does seem to make a difference. The raised donut dough is a bit lighter and crispier. I've always liked Spudnuts - specifically their chocolate bars and twists. While they're not going to knock your socks off, they are a solid option if you're in the neighborhood.

I stop by Spudnuts often on friday nights. The lady there is incredibly nice. She usually hooks us up with extras probably because it's close to closing hours and we bring our whole family in. Most of their donuts are Good while others are over the top Good! Like Evan J. said... it's a solid option!

came back at ~2am one night. had to order through barred windows from outside. all the good flavors were gone but i managed to get the last maple bar. my friends got some other classics, glazed, old fashioned chocolate etc. they were like week-old stale plastic grossness! the guy who sold them to us saw our reflex disgusted faces when we took our first bites and gave us a discount bc he felt bad. but seriously it was still not worth iT. we dropped em like its hot and left them to die on the parking lot asphalt. we had to drive to randy's to get our fix. so disappointed. spudnuts no more.
